RV Sealant - Non-Sag vs Self-Leveling

The kind of sealant you apply to your RV is important. To determine the type of sealant you need for your application, you will want to consider what it is you are sealing and where it is on your RV.

Self-leveling sealant is designed to level out as you apply it. The thick liquid slowly flows into a level position as gravity takes effect. This is particularly useful when sealing flat surfaces, like around a roof vent, AC, or skylight. As you apply the sealant, gravity will cause it to settle into an even line, giving you a clean, low-profile look.

Non-sag sealant is designed to retain its shape as you apply it. The consistency of the liquid is thick but malleable enough to be easily applied without causing sagging or slumping. This is useful when sealing vertical surfaces, such as the edges of a wall, window, or vent. As you apply the sealant, it will harden just enough to keep the liquid from drooping, giving you a clean, even look.

The box arrived with both tubes of sealant rolling around loosely inside. The ends of the cardboard tubes are compressed in, one of the long application tubes is bent way over, and the other tube has sealant leaking out. I hope I can use the tubes of sealant if they are not dried out or the tubes holds up well enough to get the material out without a blowout. I have had 100% great products and service with etrailer but this time I am a bit disappointed in the packing of the product.

I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.
-- Etrailer Expert Jenny N - 04/18/2022

I used this when replacing a vent fan in my RV. I ran out before making it around the fan so I ran to the local RV store and picked up a competing product (Dicor). When applied side-by-side it became very clear that this product is far inferior to the more popular product made by Dicor. The LaSalle Bristol XTRM went on just fine, but didn’t really spread and level out the way it should so it left a few gaps and left me questioning if it made a good seal. You can see in the photos I attached that it somewhat kept its shape as opposed to spreading out like it should. Spend a few dollars more and get the superior product. Weather was perfect at about 75 degrees so that wasn’t a factor.

Great product. Thanks Bob and your crew for the install of this product and the video you made. Have not had any problems with leaks or it coming loose.

Excellent product. No leaks. I would recommend this product.
Frank - 02/16/2022

Replaced a vent and moved a vent. The sealent holds and levels nicely, there are no water dams. The water flows away. Would have pictures but cover and snow.

This was thicker and more difficult to apply than I had anticipated. That said, I do think it worked ok to caulk around the refrigerator vent on an old camper trailer I have. It was an unusually cold day when I applied it so that may have contributed to my difficulties.

I did a lot of research and settled on installing a PVC membrane. etrailer made the research and decision process simple and efficient. I really like the videos they have on the product page, it helped with making the decision. I just received the product and waiting for the rain to break and I will install it.

just received it have not used it yet but excellent job of getting it to me.

Worked great on sealing roof top vent, very pleased

Very easy to work with. One of the best customer service out there.

package came on time as promised. All items included. Great service from Justin.

Great product! Does what it says it will do. Warm it up if your in a cold climate before use

Our company, Peak 10 Customs, use ETrailer regularly and will continue to do so. Their customer service is great!

Great product. I used this to seal a new vent installation and it works perfectly. It is "self leveling" so expect it to spread out after you run a bead of it. I bought some extra tubes and I'm glad I did. When I installed the vent, I found the seal around our skylight to be cracked. Before I applied the product, I used a good cleaner and rag to clean the area to get a good seal. I'll use this again in the future.

I have no idea why this is classified as self leveling. It didn't even try to.

Worked a expected

I called to try to locate tail light lenses for my Heartland RV Trailer. I was lucky enough to speak with James A.. He guided me on the web site to the parts I needed and even let me know LED upgrades were available. I asked about weather proofing sealants and he knew right away what I needed. I ordered 2 tail light assemblies and 2 tubes of the caulk. They arrived in 2 days which was several days sooner than I expected. I also checked campingworld for the items and found that beat them by about 40% on price. I have a new "go to" place for my RV trailer needs. Thanks again James for being knowledgeable and super fast.

This sealant worked ok on my camper roof seams.

Works well

This was my first time using this brand, I have used other brands in the past with good results. This product applied similarly to the other product, hopefully it will preform as well.

This will be great to use on our 5th wheel.
Fast delivery.

Erin - 04/03/2021

Arrived fast well packaged. Product performed as described.

Used this product to install a roof vent in my van. Working as described. No leaks and would use it again.
Scott - 09/17/2021

worked as advertised. easy to apply.

Did the job - no issues the factory tire that it replaced only lasted 2 yrs with only 1200 miles on it. I will put it to test in March as I will pull trailer around 670 miles with 1 30 min. cool down at 375 miles.

Great product. The replacement lid fit perfectly and was easy to install. The sealant works great and is keeping everything dry.
E trailer has good prices and excellent service.

The products were exactly as represented and came quickly. I have already recommended you to several if my friends.

  • Is LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Self-Leveling Sealant Comparable to Dicor Lap Sealant
The LaSalle Bristol XTRM Self-leveling Sealant part # 34427034145-1 is very comparable to the Dicor 501LSW self leveling lap sealant. I can't say exactly what the formula is for Dicor but I can tell you that LaSalle Sealant is a silicone sealant used in numerous applications including the installation of RV roof accessories and we have great reviews from customers. It works well on Fiberglass and adheres to aluminum, brass, steel, glass, concrete, wood, and PVC. It also adheres to EPDM...

This will work just as well as the original sealant and its weather-resistant formula will keep it flexible and in good condition for many years. As far as removing the old caulk/sealant you should be able to get most of it up with a good ol'e fashioned putty knife. As for the stubborn sections that won't budge a really effective...

  • Why Would Trailer Roof Vent Leak Water
If your Fan-Tastic Roof Vent is leaking it's going to be a sealant issue between the vent assembly and the roof of the trailer.
