Video Transcript for Review of TowSmart Quick Links - Tow Bars - 348749M

Hey guys. Randy here @eachtrailer.com.Today we're taking a look at some quick links from TowSmart. Now, these quick links are what they call a five sixteenths inch size and basically it's going to be an excellent way for you to repair a chain if you need, if your chain has broken and you want to repair a chain, get it put back together. These are also very, very handy for hitches. In some cases the safety chain connection points on hitches can be way up underneath and by installing these, they'll hang down there. It gives you just a more readily accessible area to get that attached to.Now they offer good construction. I like the way these feel.

You can see that threaded keeper is going to work really nicely. In most situations, once you close these, you only really have to torque it with your hand. That keeps it in place pretty well.If you have any concern about that, you can see, I can't even loosen it there. If you have any concern about that, once you run that down hand tight, you can apply just a little bit of torque with a wrench just to help ensure it doesn't come loose, but it's just a quick and convenient way. This is also going to work out for cables, ropes, hooks. Doesn't necessarily have to be a chain to chain situation. They are going to be rated at a break strength of 5,000 pounds, so 2,500 pounds per.

You'll have two of them that are going come in your kit and I think it's just going to be a really quick and easy way to get some, a solution for something that's gone wrong. You've had a problem, you need to attach a couple things back together, it's going to be a great way to do it.If you compare these to any other quick links that we offer, it'll be extremely similar. No real huge difference in them. It's a quick link so there's not a lot to it.Let's get some measurements for you though, so you know exactly what size is we're looking at. I'm going to do just the end to the end here first, and it looks like those are going to be...

So they're about two and seven eighths of an inch, just shy of three inches. When we open up our keeper fully, this is going to be the area in which we can pass items through. We'll measure that really quickly here. It's going to be right at five sixteenths. That's also going to be the diameter here.

Can you see this is a little bit larger in diameter. That's going to be seven sixteenths, so whatever you're going to be passing this through, it's going to have to be no wider than five sixteenths really as far as this measurement would go, the width would go, and the hole then that you want to pass it through, you need at least seven sixteenths to get that in.It has a clear zinc finish on it, so we're not really gonna have to worry about corrosion. Over time, if you knock these around, hit them into things, they're going to be bouncing on the metal and your hitch or whatever, you will work through that zinc coating and you will have some corrosion issues, but no different than just about any quick link out there on the market. So remember it does come as a two pack. So especially in hitch applications, if you're going to hang one on each side, you'll have everything you need. All in all, I think they're a great solution for a problem. I would definitely own these if I needed them.

  • Recommended Safety Cable Quick Connect Links for 7000-lbs Trailer
You can use quick connect links, but the Tow Ready # 348749M aren't the best choice since they have a 5000-lbs break strength. Since you're likely using 10k chains, I recommend using the Blue Ox 1/2" Quick Link for Safety Chains # BX229-0512 which are rated for 10k and will provide you with a solution that you don't have to sweat being close to capacity on.
