Easy to install took about 10-15 minutes and was able to hook up to Highlander with ease. Solid product!!!!! Enough clearance for brake lights and enough separation from vehicle!! Definitely recommend silent hitch pin.

The cargo capacity is 500 pounds. You do want to make sure that you are not exceeding the tongue weight capacity of your vehicles hitch.

This a very nice hitch rack. Well built, lots of space, long hitch tube works very well with Jeep Wrangler JL spare tire, however, you will not be able to open the swing tailgate with the rack on. Its not a big issue as it provides a good amount of clearance to the ground. If you use this carrier with one of the hitch rack cargo bags, it really adds to the cargo capacity of the rack. I have been very happy with this rack, I also like that you can add additional tail/brake lights to the rack.

Update, Still supper happy with the carrier. It did great during hunting season hauling heavy loads. One word of caution specifically for Jeep Wrangler owners. If you run a larger tire than stock ie-35x12.50x17, like I do, the racks tubing is not long enough to make it into the hole for the hitch pin to line up. You will either need a hitch extension or another hole drilled in the tube most likely NOT recommended by the manufacturer. Still keeping the 5 star rating.

I do not recommend drilling a hole however the Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches part # 80307 will work to extend the hitch. It does cut the tongue weight of the hitch in half so you will not want to exceed half of the tongue weight rating of your hitch.
The carrier itself appears to be fine. My issue is that I bought it for a Ram Promaster 3500 (Winnebago Travato) and the rise shank combined with basket height do not allow access to back doors. Obviously when the carrier was loaded I wasn’t expecting access, but I wanted to be able to open the rear door when the carrier was empty (I.e., access my power cords, water pump/faucet, etc.). I was hoping to be able to just take off my two coolers from the carrier and have the same access, but no luck. I’ll be looking for a new one that does not have rise shank and slightly smaller basket height.

This carrier was easy to assemble, though I did have to borrow a torque wrench. It seemed important to follow the mfg's spec on that to make sure it didn't rattle apart. It's very wide and when loaded with a matching 2' high cargo bag it obscures my Subaru Ascent tail lights some, so I ordered the light kit. Reasonable price, also easy to install and works fantastic. I've got over 5000 miles using it and zero issues. This is a huge addition to cargo capacity in this class of SUV (Ascents and Pilots) It's even a bigger difference on my neighbor's Highlander). Highly recommended.

First off, etrailer is great. I shopped numerous other sites and they had the best price on his cargo carrier. Second, they kept me in he loop from start to finish and had the cargo carrier delivered on the 3rd business day (maybe it was the 2nd).
The cargo carrier was easy to put together. I haven't used it yet so I can't comment on that but will follow-up once I have.
I do believe I will eventually order an anti wobble hitch pin though. There is quite a bit of play in my 2" receiver but maybe that won't be a factor once I have some weight on it.

Looks really nice - Im looking to get one for my Jeep too. Have you had any troubles since you wrote this review ? Did you need the anti wobble pin ? How easy is it to put it on and off, my concern is that I will need to take it on and off a lot.

This is for Sam. No, I have not had any problems with the cargo carrier. It is a little heavy but I can take it on and off by myself. I hang it on the wall in my garage so it stores nicely out of the way. It does wobble but it doesnt really seem to affect anything. I usually try and make sure my load is balanced.I think it is a perfect addition for the wranglers limited storage space.

The Reese cargo carrier and anti-rattle lock both arrived quickly and in perfect condition. My 14 year old son and I put the carrier together in about 15 minutes and installed it on my 2019 Toyota 4Runner. Very happy with the the quality of the carrier. It is very sturdy. We hauled (3) 5-gallon gas containers to the gas station, filled them and returned home without incident. The carrier performed as I hoped it would. This was the first of many jobs I expect this carrier to help with in the future. Although the photo may not show it, the containers were secured with heavy duty bungee cords during during our trip.

One year later and still using the Reese carrier frequently. Its holding up well and is super easy to use.

Solid carrier with plenty of room! Wow, I put this carrier to the test on a 1,600 mile road trip with our 2007 Toyota Highlander and was not disappointed. Plenty of room to store luggage for a family of four plus a load of Christmas presents. We kept everything secure and dry with the etrailer.com 20-cubic foot cargo bag and kept side movement to practically nil with the anti-rattle hitch pin. All around, the whole set up was rock solid and looked great!
I highly recommend the light kit as well. With the cargo bag fully maxed out, the Highlander's taillights were blocked. And since we do a fair amount of driving at night I also added some reflective tape all around the top bar to give not only the sides some visibility, but also the back to get the attention of those not-so-attentive drivers behind me.
Lastly, the kit was easy to put together; it came with spacers but I did not need them to obtain a flush assembly; the separation problem some have reported during assembly was avoided by torquing down the bolts around the nameplates before the main bar bolts, just as others have reported to have worked for them.

How did you mount the license plate to the carrier?

It looks like he might have used some self tapping screws to secure it to the railing, but I am not sure. I can send an email to him so he can come back and respond.

@ Bob - I drilled two holes to accomodate the standard bolt size used to mount the license plate to the car and then used nuts to secure the assembly. As a side note, two years later the carrier is holding up well. Have used it numerous times for short and long hauls and even my neighbors are borrowing it :-

Thanks Ray... I dont like self taping screws, taking them in and out will eventually mess up. Your idea of through bolting the plate is what I was going to do, but I was concerned about weakening the structure. Glad to see this is not an issue with you two years later.... C-Ya! BfD

I bought this carrier rack as the base unit for a generator box that I installed on the back of my travel trailer. It worked perfectly, and I've been using it for almost a year with no issues other than instant rust on the lower parts of the frame the first time it rained. A can of rust inhibiting spray paint took care of that issue.
I did a ton of online research and chose this model because it actually has a large distance between the hitch receiver and the carrier and I needed it to stick out far enough to clear the spare tire. This model also has about a 4 inch rise between the hitch and the carrier which helps prevent it from dragging on the ground when going over gullies and steep driveways and such. This was the only one I found that didn't sit straight out from the hitch.
The carrier itself is quite robust. It was easy to assemble, and I installed the LED light kit (super easy to install) and added some reflective tape for additional visibility. It is a bit heavy and awkward for one person to install on a vehicle, but I managed to do it and an "anti-rattle" hitch pin (also purchased from etrailer) took care of the sway. I didn't worry about the up and down movement because I bolted a metal box inside to carry 2 portable generators and the weight seems to keep it pretty stable.
I've attached a couple of photos... please note that my trailer is backed up against a 6 inch retaining wall, so the rack is 6 inches closer to the ground than it is when I'm driving.

Ordered this cargo carrier, extra large bag and light kit. Shipping was extremely fast; arrived in less that 4 days. Easy to assemble, I did however run to my local hardware store and got extra heavy duty washers to be sure all was nice and snug when assembled. The cargo carrier assembly was as easy as described; however no matter how I put in the lights, the plug wire was not long enough. Bought a $4 extender at Walmart. Be sure to put the rubber grommets in first, then put the lens in !!! Packed 3 large suitcases, 2 large duffel bags, smaller bags and still had room!! We did a 800 mile round trip to the beach, ran through some terrible rain storms, but everything stayed bone dry inside the cargo bag. Great product, fast shipping; wish I would have bought this long ago.

Carrier is Saturday and well-designed. Also got the reflective tape which was easy to use and seems to be holding up (though I store the carrier in garage between adventures). I got the cargo net, which is size-compatible but the hooks don't play well with tubular rails or mesh bottom, so I mainly rely on straps, which is why I gave the carrier four stars.

I have three pics of our new cargo carrier that we bought from you. Also the light kit and cargo netting. The cargo carrier went very good. I did have to buy a hitch adapter, which i have a pic of because the cargo carrier was a 2" and i have a 1 and 1/2 inch reciever. As you can see we do not travel lightly.

I bought one of these racks 2 years ago to take to the beach. Three trips to the beach and many trips camping, and to the home improvement store an this rack rocks! I just purchased a second one as a gift to a friend that goes to the beach with us (we take a lot of stuff). The 500 pound rating is no joke as I've had close to that on it several times. If my picture comes through you will see it loaded for the beach with an inflatable dinghy, outboard, gas can, water trampoline, fishing gear, chairs, beach toys, inflatable kayak, and more. This trip had to have 400 pounds on the rack.

Etrailer once again provided great customer service by expediting my shipment and by reviewing some photos of the assembled product to answer my questions.
The cargo carrier assembled pretty quickly and easily. I bought it to use with hauling things like my lawn mower for service. The pictures will show how that worked out, which was great. I know that I will find some additional uses like moving and hauling bulk items.

Well designed cargo carrier! I own a jeep liberty with a tire on the back. I have hunted for the perfect hitch cargo carrier that has a good sized platform, doesn't scrape the ground when driving up inclines and isn't extremely heavy. This one is it!
The hitch leave roughly 1/4" gap between the tire and basket so its a nice tight fit and doesn't stick to far out. It elevates upward from the hitch so I don't need to worry about hitting the ground on inclines. The sides are good for keeping everything in place and piece of mind.
One downfall is that I can't open the back on the liberty because of the tire. I can open the glass through.
Overall highly recommended carrier!

Here is a light kit that fits this Reese Carrier: item # 20174 Light Kit for Draw-Tite, Tow Ready, and Rola Railed Cargo Carriers $43.12.
Product arrived in good order. Although assembly time was longer than advertised, assembly was simple and straightforward. A little concern about the strength and possible cantilever, but the generator fits with plenty of room for fuel cans and other materials. Eager to give it a road test.

I purchased this cargo carrier for my 2013 Jeep Wrangler. It came disassembled and following the instructions, I had it set up in less than 30 minutes.
I mounted it to my Jeep's hitch and it sits perfectly. I have over-sized Nitto Terra Grappler tires (305/55/R20).
The goose neck on the carrier clears my rear tire by 4" (see photo).

Your current carrier offers about 1,440 square inches of cargo space. There are a few carriers with a bit more room, but nothing that's dramatically larger.
Cargo carriers can't get too much bigger than that because as they get wider than 60 inches, they can transmit too much torque on the connection between the basket and the shank that slides into the receiver.
