Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Fully welded vehicle trailer hitch is strong and durable. Draw-Tite's Tested Tough guarantee ensures that this hitch exceeds industry standards. The combination of an e-coat base and a powder coat finish provides excellent rust protection. The install was good. The hitch functions well. My only issues are the paint in a couple small areas had peeled off right out of the box and the receiver was not welded on square so when looking at the receiver you can see it's crooked. Just doesn't look great. Otherwise it functions as needed.
It's been using this hitch for a year and is very happy with it. Unless you know what you are doing f I would recommend using a professional shop to install it to avoid any issues ... I've been using it with various attachments and racks. I recommended it to my cousin, and he added some electrical wiring since he is using it with a trailer ...
I have a 2023 Mazda, CX9. As mentioned by other reviewers, the hitch installed fairly easily (watch the videos!). A nice bonus is that it balanced well on a floor jack so I was able to slide it in by myself without any help. The included wires that are used to pull the bolts through the frame work brilliantly. I would’ve given it six stars but it didn’t come with a device that self installed the hitch while I watched and drink a beer!!
FYI- the distance from the face of the receiver to the furthest, protrusion on the bumper is 4”.
Overall the installation video made it very easy to install with a helper. The quality of the trailer hitch is very good. There was some paint that had chipped off the edge exposing bare metal which needed to be protected but otherwise I am very satisfied with the product.
Installation will certainly go faster with a second person helping. Doing it myself it took me close to an hour to complete. I didn't bother putting the car up on jacks and found there to be sufficient room to maneuver.
The install video on the site is super helpful and all that's really needed. It does help clear up the paper instructions that come with the hitch.
I used a strap to support the exhaust pipe and like someone else mentioned also utilized an overturned 2 gallon bucket to support the muffler while getting it off the hangers. There was enough clearance for the bucket to slide right underneath, but I was parked a very mild grade.
I was able to get it off the mounts with just WD-40 . Since I didn't jack up the car, I was able to leverage my body weight and the fact that car was sitting on all four wheels to pull the rubber mounts off without a pry bar. I sat with my legs under the car and grabbing each side of the rubber mount was able to work them off.
I found the rear mounts were far easier to get off than the front.
Once I got the mounts off, I removed the supporting bucket and loosened the straps to lower the exhaust further.
I then used the bucket to support the weight of the hitch as I got it in position. Leaving the guide wires in place for the bolts helped me align the hitch since I was working alone.
The paper instructions mention using the washer to pinch the bolt in place to make it easier to get the nut on without the bolt being pushed up into the hole. This was particularly key to doing the install alone and one handed.
Once you get one bolt attached the rest goes faster and is a lot easier.
A deep socket and extension bar was critical in getting the bolts on to the proper torque. Without the deep socket I was able to get the hitch bolted on tight enough to drive to the hardware store to get the deeper socket to then torque to 110 ft/lbs as per the instructions.
Once I got the hitch attached, I simply reversed the process by again using the assistance of the bucket to support the exhaust as I got it back on the hangers.
A bucket or some other easy to maneuver item to help support the exhaust and hitch were definitely key in attempting to do this yourself.
Followed the instructions and after planning the install took less than 1 hour. I was able to do the install by myself by backing the car onto drive-up ramps, using 2 jack-stands under the bolt flanges, and a hydraulic jack under the receiver. Everything fit perfectly and inspired confidence in the installation. Torquing the bolts while laying on your back and/or squatting was, for me, the most difficult part of the installation.
My wife was concerned that the receiver would be detract from the appearance of the vehicle, despite my reassurances, but after installation she was satisfied. Because face of the receiver is about 9 inches forward (towards the front of the car) of the face of the bumper, make sure your intended ball mount/coupler or accessory will clear your bumper. Our main purpose is a bicycle rack and it clears with about 1 inch to spare.
I watched the videos and read reviews for suggestions .... I’ll add mine. I used RV lynx leveler blocks to give myself some extra room to work. The rear suspension lower arms (awd) have oval holes on bottom that worked perfectly for the hooks of the cam lock strap I used to support exhaust system. An extra set of hands to get nuts started while I held hitch up in place was a big help. Instead of discarding the black plastic trim piece altogether, I reinstalled the two mounting bracket pieces to add some support to bumper fascia. (see pix) The trim piece is actually three pieces and only put together with push clips.
I was very pleased with the quick turnaround on my order. The product itself appears to be well made and was reasonable to install, although considering the size and weight of the hitch, it would have gone much more quickly with an extra pair of hands. This hitch was installed on a 2016 Mazda CX-9. The one issue I had was with the lower trim panel that had to be removed for the installation. After bolting up the hitch, I realized that I was not going to be able to get the trim panel back into position with the hitch bolted all the way up, and had to drop it some by loosening the bolts in order to get the trim between the hitch and the mounting points. Once I started retightening the bolts, I found that the hitch was pulling the middle of the trim piece up causing the two ends of the trim to splay downward. Snug is good but too snug can cause some problems. It is not a biggie because it is for the most part not easily seen by the casual observer, but if the manufacturer would like to make a good product better, they might take a look at dropping the hitch down just a bit in order to provide some relief between the hitch and the trim piece.
installed this on my 2019 Mazda CX-9. Took about 20 mins. Make sure to add loctite to boots and torque it down to specs. I highly recommend watching the [online] videos on the install. Makes it much easier. Super easy install and the hitch looks great! Highly recommend this with the welded bracket. Keeps wiring in place and much prettier looking.
Felt solid and installation was similar to other brands on the same vehicle. Directions were clear though I’d recommended a helper. It’s a tough job with just one person.
Hitch was great fit for 2020 Mazda CX 9. Install was straight forward and took this mid 70’s guy about two hours to install with no assistance other than my floor jack and ratchet strap to support the exhaust. Fits well and only the 2” opening shows. Better yet was the outstanding service and assistance I received from Tommy C. I have ordered from etrailer for years and have yet to be disappointed.
I received excellent advice when I placed my order and the hitch has been been performing flawlessly. etrailer is the only place to buy your trailer and towing products! Thanks!
Very heavy duty and the videos made installation a breeze. I was a bit nervous installing myself but really wasn't that big of a deal. Having two people hold the hitch up while I got a couple bolts on was definitely helpful. Now I just need to find a boat!
Easy to install if you’re inclined and price is very reasonable!
Videos are very helpful
Installation videos, instructions, and materials made it easy. Step by step instructions were clear for a hassle free job. I’ve used the hitch on several long trips, and it has performed flawlessly.
Bolted up perfectly, pulled a uhaul trailer across three states. Also works great with my motorcycle hitch rack. No reason to look any further!
Well designed and quality product. With the aid of the video, I was able to install the receiver and wiring with very little issues in a timely manner.
I wanted a two inch receiver and concealed trailer wiring which was not available from the dealer.
I would recommend this product without hesitation.
The fit to the vehicle and the instructions was very well done. It made the installation process really easy. My only gripe was one of the bolts that came in package (damaged threads near the starting tip), the other 3 was perfect. Keep in mind you need a deep socket 7/8" in size to complete the install and an extra pair of hands to help during the initial lift to thread the first two nuts.
Very informative website, which made the decision making process very easy in which product to purchase. The only negative comment that I have is that one of the washers that arrived with the product was small and did not fit over the bolt. I had to run to the store and purchase another washer before I completed the installation.
Fit nicely on my 2016 Mazda CX-9 Signature. Installation is straight forward but you do need to be handy. Or have a pro install it, it should take them only 30 minutes. I also purchased the Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat 18144 and the Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring 118278 which does fit all 2016 CX-9s (all '16 CX-9s have the harness already installed). Photos attached of my install in case this helps.
I couldn't be more impressed with etrailer. Great price, great shipping, great tracking on shipping, great accuracy on delivery date, and outstanding installation video.
It took me maybe 45-60 minutes to install it in my driveway. I had zero complications or problems.
The hitch fit very well.
I will definitely use etrailer again if I need to purchase a hitch in the future.
This was a super easy installation. There was a video of the installation provided which I watched beforehand. Couldn’t ask for a better product, price or support! etrailer is my go to trailer store!
EASY PEASY!! 30 - 40 minute install by myself! After lowering the exhaust a couple inches as described in the video I feed the spring wires with the nut plate and nut thru the frame (very easy if you bend the last 1" of the wire near 90 degrees and feed it so the end is pointed down it will pop right out the bolt hole).
Once I had all 4 bolts in place I moved the hitch near the back of the car at this point I place my floor jack under the center of the hitched and while holding it in place I was able to roll it into position and feed the nut wires thru the appropriate hole in the hitch.
After starting the rear facing nut onto the bolt i did the same on the other side of the car , with 2 nuts on I lowered the jack and the hitch rotated right up against the frame allowing me to add the 2 remaining bolts .
Once all the bolts were torques I replaced the exhaust mounts and had a cold one.
IF only all car related task went so well great product cant wait to us it looks like it should for the money quality thru out....
Product is solid which isn't built by etrailer but that's ok. Installation video made putting this on the 2019 CX-9 a breeze!
