Yes, if you:

  • Haul a big, boxy trailer that needs weight distribution, which only works with this hitch
  • Worry about damaging the fascia or clips that secure it, therefore prefer an install that doesn't make you pull it off of your Subaru

No, if you:

  • Might get annoyed by seeing the cross tube hanging below the bumper

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario. Technical Support

Installed alone using straps and a floor jack. Wasn't very hard at all. Works great, no more roof rack, yay!

It was fairly easy to install and has worked well on a long road trip (cargo basket) and to pull an empty boat trailer. My car doesn’t have a great towing capacity but it has worked for what I have needed to haul

For my performance standpoint, it is the best. etrailer has always delivered..Beyond expectation.

Totally satisfied
James - 11/18/2022

I bought this hitch a year ago, and its performed greatly on my 2019 Subaru Forester Sport. I only had to slightly bend a exhaust heat shield to install it, but over all was easy to attach to my vehicle. I use my hitch for Bike Racks and a Rear Cargo Basket.

I haven't towed with it yet however as my tow rating is very low for an SUV, but standing on it, plus with the cargo basket having my huge Ice Chest on it feels very stable and secured, even when Off Road.

Still working Perfect after a year. it outlasted the pandemic.

Subaru Forester

I had a knowledgable friend install for me on my 2021 Subaru Forester. Didn't take him much time at all. I've been carrying 4 full-suspension mountain bikes (at least 32 lbs each) on a Velocirax-412 (about 80 lbs) and have had no issues. Etrailer definitely saved me money and time, and I got a better product that I could have at the Subaru dealership. This is definitely the way to go.

Quick installation and very happy with the fit.

2021 Subaru Forester

The instructions were clear and hitch fit perfectly. Thanks for the fish wires to get the bolts in place. Genius! It looks great.

The shipping box was damaged by the hitch bouncing around inside and the paint was chipped off in two places. Consider a layer of cardboard attached to the ends of the hitch and a form fitting box to eliminate movement.

Subaru Forester

Works great. Had a local garage do the install on my Subaru Forester, need a couple of minor adjustments. No issues or problems. Primarily use it for bike rack, carting 2 adult bikes around the area.

Great. Has worked well. No issues. No signs of rust. Very happy
Brian - 07/17/2022

My thoughts after one year of having this on our 2020 Subaru Forester. I could not be happier with the solid installation and quality of this hitch. I really like the low profile design and the professional look. I was a bit apprehensive about the installation as I had never done that before. But after watching the installation video a few times and reviewing the installation instructions I jumped in and was able to complete it in one afternoon. Super easy and every step was in the video, which helped so much! My next trailer hitch ( if I get a new truck) will certainly be a product from etrailer!

Great product fast shipping, installation was easy with a perfect fit. I highly recommend this seller for the quality built products and their industry’s knowledge. As far as customer service goes they are the best, I plan to make future purchases through them. I can’t stress this enough these guys are the go to guys for all your trailer needs.

Worked perfect. Easy installation instructions and was simple as plug and play. Ended up purchasing some vhb zip tie mounts and routed the extra length of cable under the spare tire and cut a hole in the grommet in the bottom to route it through the bottom.

2019 Subaru Forester

I just finished installing this. I did it by myself with the back end of my forester up on ramps, I think they’re about 8 inch ramps. I followed along with the video on this site and it was a breeze.

Took me just over an hour, wasn’t rushing. I would have been done faster, but I accidentally bolted up the hitch with my shop light cord between the hitch and the car, had to loosen all the bolts and drop one side enough to get the cord out. Don’t do that. :-)

My replacement bolts for the driver side under body panel didn’t include washers. I had some that would work and used them, but I do think the kit should include them. It looks like the guy in the install video has them.

This will no doubt be strong enough for anything my forester is capable of hauling.

This hitch was packaged nicely for shipping. I worked in a UPS hub while in college and saw lots of great and poorly packed boxes. They definitely put some thought into getting these to the destination intact and not all scratched up. Not a simple task for heavy and awkward shaped things.

I found your website by word of mouth from a friend who had installed his hitch and recommended that I could do it. After ordering the hitch your delivery was fast (3 days) and the video you provided on your site for installation was a life saver. I followed it step by step. I didn't have a lot of confidence going into this and just went for it and everything went according to plan. I will be ordering a hitch for my son's car in the future for his bicycle rack.

Easy bolt on install works great for our ebike rack. Watch a YouTube install video and you will be set.

2019 Subaru Forester

I couldn't be more satisfied with my purchase. The hitch arrived promptly and in good condition. It fit my 2019 Forester perfectly and went on exactly as shown in the instructional video. It's way overbuilt for my uses (not a bad thing), a small utility trailer and a bicycle rack. As an additional item the wiring harness went in perfectly.

Subaru Forester

I was to by the Subaru dealership that they would install my after market code 76271 etrailer hitch. But I would have to purchase the wiring harness from them which the dealership charges $219.00 for the wiring harness. When I took my etrailer hitch to them to install they had the wiring harness in the parts department. when I informed the service department that I was there to have my hitch installed, He said he would check with the mechanic, he returned and said that the mechanic didn't feel comfortable installing an after market hitch on my Subaru Forester. He then told me to try a place down the street, he said that I should take their wiring harness to have it installed at the place down the street. I left and found the Truck Cab and Hitch place and asked him if he would install my hitch that I purchased else ware. He said sure, and he could not believe the dealer was going to charge me $219.00 for the harness, he said that the Dealership purchases their wiring harnesses from him for $75.00 Truck Cap and Hitch installed my etrailer hitch and the same 75.00 wiring harness for $268.13 They were very professional installed it while I waited with no appointment. I was very happy that the dealership told me no, I saved a lot of money and had a great experience. I will not be going back to the dealership where I purchased my Subaru. I am very happy with my new etrailer Curt 76271 hitch.

Install was easier than I thought . And wiring was done in a way I think is better than the video shows that was you don’t have a harness ha going out of your liftgate! There is a rubber grommet towards the rear of the trunk that I cut from the middle outwards, slid the harness in, and reinstalled grommet to prevent any water from entering the cabin . Have used it to tow my jetski and works great .

Subaru Forester

Fits perfect on are subaru forester 2020. Easyish to install. We love are hitch.

I have not actually tried to tow anything yet at the time of this review. The hitch was delivered promptly. It was easy to install and everything i needed was included. Clean install. Had to do minor drilling to slightly enlarge two existing holes on the vehicle (per instructions). I especially appreciated the inclusion of all the fish wires in the kit. I recommend you watch the u-haul installation video on youtube before installing but once you see that it will all be clear. You probably need a helper to help lift it in place.

Packaging was badly damaged when recieved, but all hardware was secured inside the box so it all was all there. Paint was missing on trailer hitch reciever. Had to repaint areas with missing paint.

I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you. I recommend touching up the affected areas with a rust resistant paint which you will then have on hand for regular hitch maintenance.

2021 Subaru Forester

Prompt delivery. Quality product. The best part is the easy to follow, on line instructions for installation. This is second purchase for me because I sold my former vehicle, hitch included. Good customer help and follow-up.

Excellent! I’m still a super fan of your product, company, and customer service.
Carol - 04/27/2022

The trailer hitch has been great after a year. I use it with a Yakima bike rack and have never had any issues with it. It is solidly built and installing it was easy with the related videos on the website for me as it was my first time installing a hitch. Would recommend!

Thanks for the video. The installation videos on your website made install go extremely well. I would definitely recommend Etrailer to others.

2019 Subaru Forester

Awesome product! Bolts right on to the existing holes in the frame. You will have to cut a notch out of the passenger side heat shield, but it is not hard. My buddy helped me install this in less than 2 hours and we were in no hurry. We used vehicle ramps to give us some breathing room. The hardware is fed through the frame holes with threaded wires. Holding the hitch while trying to install the nuts can be challenging. The two of us fumbled our way through it with a bit of effort and swearing, but a floor jack holding the weight of the hitch would have been helpful.
I bought this hitch to use a bike rack. I saved myself hundreds compared to buying and installing at the dealership.

2019 Subaru Forester

Received my Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver right on time. Product is great and a perfect fit having been professionally installed on my 2019 Subaru Forester a day after receiving it. It will be used to pull a great light weight (840 lbs) camp trailer. I am excited.
Most of all, I am so impressed with the service from When I called to place the order the service person was very knowledgeable, professional and polite. I will order from again. Thank you.

After a year and a summer of pulling our trailer we are very pleased with our Draw-Tite Hitch Receiver. No issues whatsoever. I am thankful for the excellent advice from the etrailer staff that led me to the receiver.

  • Trailer Hitch Installation on 2019 Subaru Forester
Installing the Draw-Tite # 76271 trailer hitch that fits your 2019 Subaru Forester will not require you to remove the rear bumper cover and bumper to install. The exhaust is going to need to be lowered for you to install it, though this is standard for most trailer hitch. As for the heat shield, yes that will need to be removed and trimmed as shown in the accompanying photo. If the trailer hitch receiver you have on your 2019 Subaru Forester Sport is a class I 1-1/4" then the maximum number of bikes you can carry regardless of weight is two.
