E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Great quality product, that’s why I get all my trailering equipment from etrailer.

Brakes still work like the day I put them on!

Reassembly of parts went perfectly, I made the right choice with etrailer !!

Bought new Dexter brakes and drums to replace the original brakes on my 1995 Haulmark car trailer. The original drums and magnets were badly worn, and I wanted to replace them before going to the car cruise in Ocean City. I received an email from within hours of placing the order, stating that the order has shipped! The absolute best customer service I ever had. The parts arrived within days, and the packaging was superb. Thank you etrailer!

The Dexter parts are working great so far! Although I only used the trailer twice for about 450 miles total. Ive always had good service from etrailer. Thank you for the follow up, I appreciate it.
Paul K - 09/24/2018

This trailer drum kit seems to work well as a direct replacement for the original equipment on my trailer. Reason for the 1 star deduction is that this kit does not include the axle washer with the notch that was on the original assembly and the packaging appears inadequate for small pack carrier shipping. (2 of 4 hub kits arrived with issues - one box was torn in transit resulting in missing pieces and a second arrived with a dented bearing race). Overall, a good quality product and if the manufacturer addresses the packaging issues to ensure everything arrives intact, it can be even better!

I will have our customer service team reach out to you. We do have the castle nut available separately if needed. If you have a one inch spindle it is part # 165686

The brake drum/hubs are excellent. The plastic bag with the bearings and other hardware didn’t survive shipping in 3 out of 4 instances. The included bearings are Chinese and would probably work fine, however I installed Timken bearings and races.

We have been going camping out West snd Southwest for five years now. Pulling 2003 Jayco 12 Sd popup behind 2006 Chevrolet Express 2500. A lot of mountains. Big Mountains. I noticed that the hydraulic brakes on the camper didn't work properly. I have tried to adjust them multiple times but it didn't help. I decided to replace them with electric brakes . It looked like etrailer had exactly what I needed. I ordered the electric brakes assembly first and then hub and drum assembly. Had to take some measures for the brake plate mounting and also get part numbers of the old bearings in the hub. All parts arrived two days after order was placed. Amazing. All the parts were there. . I am not the greatest mechanic but I was able to install them fairly quickly. Installation videos on etrailer website and YouTube were very helpful. We just went on our first camping trip this year. Only two hours drive. It seems that everything works fine I can feel that new brakes actually work. Thanks to Nicole at etrailer for helping me with this order.

installed brakes on my 97 Rogue boat trailer. E-Trailer had everything I needed for the job. Trailer already had the 4-hole mounting plate for the backing plate. It was all bolt on, brakes work great. I have bought quite a few items from them over the past few years, including an axle assy with brakes for another boat trailer, 2 brake controllers and also a trailer hitch for our older Lexus suv. I am very satisfied with there service and quality of there merchandise.

Got this with a 10 inch trailer brake. Everything was as expected. I had to buy a couple nylock nuts from Menards. They are 7/16 by 40 pitch. Which is a fine thread.

The brakes work great! Im really happy that I took the time to install them.
Jonathan - 08/23/2016

Really detailed helpful videos made installation a snap. I put brakes on a trailer that didn’t have them.

A word of caution. Unlike the brake kit, the drum kit only does one wheel. So if you order a brake kit and a drum kit you don’t have enough to do two wheels.

Great drums, easy to install. Instructions were thorough. I'm taking away one star only because one of the bearing seals was slightly bent when it arrived. I was able to gently bend it back with a small wood block (used a small wood handled wire brush) and gentle hammer taps. Used Red RTV as directed to make sure the seal stayed tight over the years. The seal went in the same as the undamaged one and appears to have an effective fit. I think this was just a one-off issue since it only happened with 1 of the 4 I ordered. Overall easy installation of the kits. 2011 Dual Axel Wells Cargo utility trailer.

I purchased a used cargo trailer. We used it in October to go to Colorado on a hunt. We had a horrible time with the brakes failing. I tore it down this Spring and found there were no brakes on the front axle. I started checking around locally and could not find the parts I needed. I found etrailer online and took a chance and ordered(something Idon’t do shop online)the parts I was sure I needed. The parts arrived Tuesday and I installed them today. Everything was just as advertised and the fit was exact. Now I just need to get two new tires and wheels and the trailer will be ready for our trip to Colorado this year. Thanks E-Trailer.

Trailer brakes were easy to install and work great!

Great Price on a new brake drum for my Casita. Included everything - bearings, seals, dust cap, retainer, axle nut and lug nuts. Did not include the washer, but that's no big deal (I have a few extra!). Arrived much faster than expected, too. Got my Casita back on the road after a bearing failure that scored the inside of the hub. Great price and good service from etrailer! I must also mention that etrailer has so much good INFORMATION and tutorials as well. There might be other online sites that have it for a penny cheaper, but they don't have the information you need to get the job done right. Thanks again etrailer!

Very disappointed in the return policy waiting period for unused product

With our return policy you can return any new unused item for a full product refund within 60 days from purchase. The shipping and handling charges will be deducted from the product credit unless the return is a result of our error.

Hub worked out fine for my 2012 Coachman Catalina travel trailer. Missed a 5-star rating because the cap was bent on receipt - was able to straighten out and use.

The brakes from etrailer were of excellent quality. They installed easily, and no adjustments were needed for the installation. After bleading the system, the brakes worked fine. I will definitely recommend etrailer to my friends and relatives needing trailer parts and accessories.

It's was nice to find a hub & drum kit. Didn't have to hunt down bearing & seal numbers. Races already installed, pack some bearing and your done. Made changing all 4 brake on My trailer a breeze.

Made in USA. All the pieces matched up with the. Dexter electric braking piece. {online] essentially same price but China made. As a country we absolutely must get away from Chinese products of any type. Everything. My take. Thanks etrailer my pictures are not in this iPad

The videos provided by etrailer were invaluable; there was no need to take pictures. The disassembly and reassembly of the hub was straightforward. Have plenty of newspaper and roll of paper towels. The biggest thing I recommend is packing the bearings properly and paying close attention to tapping the inner bearing seal with a block of wood: Take your time and do it carefully, checking the evenness of the seal. It should be flush with the metal rim. I spent about 3.5 hours total on this work, possibly the next time will be faster.

John O - 07/23/2021

Great product, however they only sent 4 lug nuts, not a big deal but annoying.

As a consumer in todays age, I look for service but also price adjusting when possible based on competition. Not the first time I ordered from Etrailer but I did find other competitors with lower pricing on the items I purchased. Comical to see that not appropriate for review is indicating anything contrary to excellent. Thus it is that pictures shown of damaged boxes may not reveal how the end product is used or affected but it is also part of the process of ordering in the future.

If asking for tips only or how to give rave reviews when the overall needs to be conveyed, then why offer it as an alternative to begin with?

The trailer hub I ordered arrived early and was the correct part I needed. As a returning customer of 5 years, etrailer has earned my trust.

All the parts I needed and assembly went well. Thank you

Still working as advertised!! Great stopping power.

I wanted to use original Dexter Axle Parts on my pop up camp trailer and that is what I received from The online process was extremely easy and when I discovered I made an error on my order I was able to quickly make the change and the parts were shipped very fast and at a good price. There are a lot of knock off parts out there claiming to be "Dexter quality" but not actual Dexter Axle Parts. Be aware! Trust when you want Original Dexter Axle Parts.

The # 84546UC3 and # 84546UC3 -EZ Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly are identical with the exception of the grease cap. Each is a single hub with an integrated drum. They use the same bearings, races, and grease seals. The # 84546UC3-EZ has an EZ-Lube compatible grease cap designed to use with E-Z Lube trailer axles. The # 84546UC3 has the standard grease cap. I have attached a video review for both that you may reference.

I ran out to the warehouse and pulled one of the # 84546UC3-EZ hub/drums, which I compared with a typical idler hub with 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern for a 3500 lb axle. I found that with both hubs, the distance from the rear seal surface to the front face of the hub where the wheel would ride is 2-1/2 inches. I read through the other question you sent and I can clear some things up for you. First, the ALKO axle brake mounting flanges have a different bolt pattern than do Dexter or similar assemblies when you go up to a 12 inch brake assembly and that is why they will not fit ALKO axles. The top mounting holes on an ALKO mounting flange are wider than they are on a Dexter. But on a 10x2-1/4 inch brake assembly the 4 bolt pattern should be the same. So you can use other 10x2-1/4 inch assemblies...
