The hitches and balls are great. They haven't rusted and they do what they're supposed to do. Plus, having both mounts allowed me to figure out which height was best to go with my receiver/trailer setup. Now, would I get it again? No. Why? Because having the two different drops/rises and ball sizes doesn't matter once you attach them with the cut washer. At that point, they are almost permanently attached, so unless you have 2 trailers that are both different tongue heights and have different ball sizes, it doesn't really matter. (Though I guess in a pinch, one could get you close enough to handle another trailer.)
This product offers a few options for hitch height and towing. I added a 2 5/16 ball to the combination.
I installed the draw tite hitch onto my brand new 2018 Subaru outback. I'm 68 years old, not as strong as I was, but proud to say I did the job all by myself in about 4 hours. Here are some tips you may find useful. Watch the video-it’s pretty good. I had difficulty getting the exhaust system down and worried about getting it up again from the moment I got it down...read on-help will follow. I bought a stepup drill bit which worked great for drilling the hole in the chasis. I clamped the hitch onto a floor jack, then rolled it and raised it into position. Used metal shears to easily cut out the heat shield as per the video. Your inclination will be the screw the fishing tool provided all the way up the carriage bolt. That won’t work; just screw it on to the tip of the bolt. I couln’t get the exhaust hangars in place even after lubricating them with wd-40. I dropped the rubber hangars into undiluted liquid car wash soap which made them much more slippery than the wd-40. After that the rubber hangars slipped into place pretty easily-that’s my best tip. Finding the electric connection plug for the wiring harness was almost as hard as installing the hitch. I was very happy with how the job came out. Good luck.
We are happy with our whole package including hitch, receiver, wiring and ball mounts.
Provides a good range of options - perfect for switching between different trailers quickly. The storage bag keeps it handy in one spot.
The ball mount kit was shipped in a timely manner. It is exactly what I need for future use
The kit arrived ahead of schedule. All of the items in this kit are heavy duty and are of great quality. I pull several different trailer and these ball hitches work for most of them. I wish there was another kit with different height adjustments to add to what I have now in order for all trailers that I pull would be level be level.
Everything was good. Pulled the trailer with no problems. Still secure on my car. After one year, ball mount starting to show a little rust but that is it. Just used it to move and haven't used it since.
Good value and having the 2 options saved us because the higher rise ball mount did not work with the accessory bike rack and I was able to go with the lower rise instead.
The customer service was polite and knowledgeable in their recommendations. The package delivered complete and without incident and install was a breeze. the only reason for the four stars instead of five is for the competitiveness of their pricing.
Top quality receivers and balls. Order was accurate and liked the bag that came with the receivers. Just keeps everything together. Great service after the sale. Would go to these guys again.
Could not have been easier. I was able to find what I needed by looking at just the items for my vehicle. Item arrived days ahead of schedule. Items were well packed. Tongues appears to be well constructed, but they were made in China. Sturdy pins and a handy bag with enough room for your wrench besides. Very happy with my purchase and good to do business with a local company, too.
Thank you for the informative video instructions as well as helpful / honest reviews to research prior to making the purchase. I do not have anything to add that has not been covered in the reviews. Here is a recap of my experience that has been consistent with others. 1. Box was received with the driver side of the hitch pushed out. Only minor scratches which you can not see when installed and it did not impact the installation. Wrapping each end would probably be a good idea as stated in other reviews. 2. Removing 14 years of rust was the hardest part of the install (from the passenger side holes). Total time was approximately 1 hour as others have experienced. I used the bolts from the factory tie hook to work out the rust using 1/2" round wire brush attached to a cordless drill along with a full can of WD-40. 3. Installation of the hitch took about 30 minutes with assistance of a foot stool. 4. Plug-n-play electrical connector took about 10 minutes after watching the video. 5. Perfect fitment, fast delivery, easy website ordering experience and follow-up status notifications, and I can not be more pleased with the cost being under $200 for a DIY project. I required this setup to tow a ~1,000 lb motorcycle trailer with a ~1,000 lb motorcycle next week and my Honda has a 3,500 lb towing capacity. Thank you etrailer.com!
Ball mount kit works great!
Very good service. Thank you!
Shipping - The hitch, ball mount-kit, wiring harness, and brush all arrived quickly in a single, heavy-duty cardboard box. The packaging was excellent! There had to have been a hundred heavy-duty staples used to secure everything. Installation - The video and paper instructions were spot-on and made the install much more straight forward. For two non-mechanics, it took us about 2 hours from the time we pulled the car into the garage until all the tools were put away to install the hitch, wiring harness, and mount the balls on the sleeves. We did not lift the car might have made it a little easier but totally doable. The only actual difficulty we had was pulling the rubber muffler mounts off. A little lubrication helps. Reinstalling them is easier.
Excellent quality. Threads on the balls/nuts are smooth. No hang-ups. It's nice to have two sizes of ball mounts. Not just for the differing heights but you never know when someone will need a hand with their trailer than would take a different ball size. I just keep them both on-board in their bag in one of my storage compartments. nice strong bag. Pulling the pin and switching the ball mount is so much easier than getting out the wrench and tugging on an old rusted nut to change a ball. Not getting any younger ya know : ).
Superb quality and this accessory completes the trailer hitch by allowing me to haul anything from moving trailers to boats. Will buy from here anytime I need extra accessories. Thank you.
Worked great with my trailer.
Works as advertised, although your trailer will rattle around a bit if you use the included hitch pins. Spend the extra money to get a locking J-pin to eliminate rattle.
This is one of the items that has saved me a LOT of time. Since I use both my truck and my car (both have Curt hitches ordered from etrailer) for towing my half dozen or so different types of trailers, I am constantly needing to adjust the ball size and/or height depending on the combination of vehicle and trailer. With this kit is takes literally less that 30 seconds every time for me to configure to exactly my needs. Also, the bag is excellent for keeping crud and ball grease off my vehicle interiors and is big enough to hold a ball wrench inside as well. Cannot beat the price either for so much convenience and saved time.
Works great.
Don’t know what trailers I’ll be pulling, so a mix of balls and hitches like this made sense. And not all that much more expensive than a single set up.
The good: It works. The not so good: 1. The lock washer on the ball stud makes it really hard to remove the nut. The lock washer cuts into the nut, essentially preventing it from unscrewing. This is good from a safety standpoint, but makes changing the configuration really hard. I had to lock it into a bench vice and use a pipe wrench to get it off. 2. Not sure what happened, but first time I used it (to pull a rental trailer), the hitch pin fell out, causing the trailer to disconnect. Best I can figure is that the cotter pin popped off. Fortunately, I wasn't on the highway, and the safety chains kept the trailer attached. But it was pretty scary. I replaced it with a locking pin, and had no further issues.
products are top notch & & service is excellent & their follow up is what other companies should do. I recommend etrailer as a great resource
