Video Transcript for Curt Chrome Hitch Bal Review

What's up everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Curt Trailer Ball. So this one's gonna be 2 5/16". So you want to make sure you match it up with your coupler. Typically on the top of the coupler, we're gonna have a couple numbers, and that'll kind of tell you that if it's an older coupler, you just want to make sure that it is the right size before you purchase. This one is gonna have a capacity of 10,000 pounds.

So you want to match it up with the right equipment. So make sure that the ball mount's gonna be at least 10,000 pounds. And of course, make sure that your vehicle and your hitch can handle that as well. Whenever you're picking a ball mount, you want to make sure that the diameter of the hole is gonna be 1 1/4" in diameter. I don't want anything bigger because there's gonna be too much slop.

And of course, anything smaller isn't gonna fit. So we want to make sure it's nice and tight. And that is the size we want to kind of go for. The shank is about 2 5/8" long so it's gonna work with ball mounts that have 1/2" to 1" thick. So this one right here is on the heavier side, but it's still within those bounds, so we're good to go.

It does have a chrome plating around the whole entire ball. If you want to put some grease on it, you can. That will kind of help limit the amount of wear you're gonna have, but it's inevitable, it's gonna happen. If you do want to upgrade, 'cause trailer balls are pretty much the same, you just need to get the right size and the right capacity. But if you we're to upgrade, you can get one that's made of stainless steel.

It's all machined out of one piece, that's gonna hold up against the elements a little bit better, but also there are some other ones as well that has had coatings on them and such. Chrome looks good now, but eventually it will wear away and not really look the best. So, just kind of take that into consideration, but that's pretty much with any ball. There isn't a whole lot to this, and that's pretty much it for our look at the Curt Trailer Hitch Ball..

  • Trailer Hitch Ball Wrench Size and Torque Rating for 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Ball Shank Size
You can have a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball on either a 1 inch or 1-1/4 inch shank. The nut on a hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank takes a wrench with a 1-7/8 inch socket. A hitch ball with a 1 inch shank will take a wrench with a 1-1/2 inch socket. You will need to torque all hitch balls with a 1-1/4 inch shank, like 2-51/6 inch hitch ball # A-6, down to 450 ft/lbs. I am including a link to some helpful trailer hitch ball information, if needed.

  • Comparing Smartphone and Display Version of the Tireminder TPMS Systems
I'd go with the smartphone version of the Tireminder TPMS part # TPMS-APP-6 over the kit that comes with a display part # TM-A1A-6. Since it connects to your phone that's one less thing to remember on trips and it's one less thing you'd have to install and keep track of.

  • Will the TireMinder Display on a DVD Receiver in my Car
We currently do not offer the Jensen VX3518 DVD Receiver so I am not up to date on it's features but it will need to have access to either the Google Play App Store or the Apple IOS App Store in order for it to be able to display the tire pressure readings from the TireMinder RV Tire Pressure Monitoring System part # TPMS-APP-6. The reason for this is that you have to download an app on your Android or Apple smartphone in order to use the above TireMinder RV Tire Pressure Monitoring System....

  • TireMinder Tire Pressure Monitoring System for Multiple Trailers
I spoke with my contact regarding your existing solar powered TireMinder Tire Pressure Monitoring System. We do not currently have this particular kit but she said that it is really only designed to be used with one trailer. The transmitters with that system are specific to the monitor so additional transmitters could only be added if the ones you currently have on your camping trailer are "deleted" from the system.. This means you would need to go through the process of deleting and relearning...

The hitch balls we recommend for this Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System, part # BXW0751, have a shank length of either 2-3/4-inches (part # 19286 with a 2-5/16-inch ball size) or 2-5/8-inch (part # A-90, with a 2-inch ball size). The ball you ordered, part # A-6, also has a 2-5/8-inch long shank, so it should work with your Blue Ox SwayPro.

  • Can TireMinder TPMS System Be Used on Inner Tire Valve Extensions
I reached out to my contact at TireMinder and she said there aren't any issues using their TPMS systems like the part # TM-A1A-6 you were looking at with valve extensions, as long as the extensions are steel. The added weight of the sensors won't cause problems with them potentially snapping off during travel. They will work really nicely for your RV's inner tires. I have attached a short video review and the written install manual below that you can check out as well.

The Draw-Tite Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 7" Rise, 8" Drop - 9-1/2" Long - 12,000 lbs # 4283 is the closest we have to what you are looking for in a fixed mount. It has an 8 inch drop, 12K capacity, 1-1/4 inch hitch ball hole diameter, and 7/8 inch thick mount. The smaller diameter holes and thinner mount will leave you with only a 5K capacity. The shank will need to be inverted for the rise position and you will put the hardware in the 3rd and 5th holes from the top when inverted. • Best Way to Reduce Suspension Sag When Towing a Trailer
We have the perfect product for you, but it's not a suspension enhancement system as they are more ideal for vehicles that are carrying weight in the cargo area of the vehicle. For a towing situation a weight distribution system would be much better as it actually distributes the tongue weight of the trailer up to the front axle of the tow vehicle which will help with braking and handling. The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight...

Considering the towing capacity of your Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and the relatively light 3,500 pound Casita Trailer, you most likely will not need a weight distribution system or sway control. I recommend simply going on a few test drives with your trailer to see how everything handles.
