Video Transcript for Mighty Cord 5th Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Today in our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, we're gonna be installing Mighty Cord fifth wheel/gooseneck trailer wiring harness with seven pole connector. You can get this in a seven foot or 10 foot length. This wiring harness is gonna take your factory seven pole connector that's at the back of your vehicle and reposition it up here, while maintaining the one that's still at the back. What's nice about this is if you have a trailer you haul out of your hitch, you can use the one at the back, but when you hook up your fifth wheel, you've now got easy access to plug your fifth wheel in with the one that's located in your truck bed.The connector itself has a spring loaded lid, make sure it stays shut when not in use to keep out any moisture, ensuring a long lasting connection. On the inside when we open the lid, there's a rubber seal on here to help keep that moisture out even further and our seven pole connector. It comes with all the hardware you need to get it installed, let's show you that now. We'll begin our installation by determining where we want to put our seven way connector.

We're gonna be putting ours in the back where our bed juts out here. So we want to find about the right height that we want it. We're gonna keep it kind of low, we're gonna put it about here. So I like to mark it, so I know where I'm gonna be putting it. And we're just using a paint stick here to make the marks.

This will just give us a general idea of where it's gonna be. We'll now drill our pilot hole in the center with a quarter inch drill bit. Then we're gonna use a two and one eighth inch hole saw. It tells you to use a two inch, but that extra eighth inch really makes it easier to get your wiring in. And you won't notice the extra eighth inch because it'll be covered up with your connector here.If you've got spray in liner like this, I recommend starting with your hole saw going backwards, this will clean off that paint and everything to get down to the metal surface. If you marked it out like I did, then you're gonna wanna clean it off now and get that paint stick off of there.

You can use some soapy water and a rag to get it off. We'll take some clear enamel to spray the hole we just cut. And this'll just help prevent against any rust and corrosion in the future. Now I'm gonna take my wiring, we're gonna take the end that just has the single connector, we're gonna feed it up from the bottom towards our hole. We'll now plug in our seven pole end to the connector.

We can now put our . We'll line it up so it's even and insert our self tapping screws. It doesn't really matter on your first screw if it's not perfectly level, you can level it when you put your second one in. Now I'm gonna adjust that 'til it's level, and insert the other screw. And the rest will go in just the same. We're using a quarter inch socket to tighten all these down. We can now clean up all the metal shavings and mess we made. We'll just vacuum that up. We'll now need to disconnect our electrical connector on our existing seven pole connector. There's a locking tab here that we're gonna need to pry out with our screwdriver. Once you got that out of the way you can press in on the release tab and pull your connector off. We'll now route our wiring up above the frame and over towards our other connector. We can now take dielectric grease, we're gonna squirt it on our connectors. This'll just help keep out any moisture to ensure a long lasting connection and prevent corrosion. We'll take our factory connector that we disconnected from our seven pole connector, we're gonna plug that into the male end of our new harness. You can, if you want, you can put the locking tab back on as well that we had removed. That simply pushes back down on there. We'll now take our other end here, and this is gonna plug back into our seven pole connector. All that's left now is to take your excess wiring, coil it up and zip tie it with the ones included in the kit. Now we'll test it out and make sure everything's working properly. To test it, you'll just want to plug in your fifth wheel into your connector here. Or if you have a tester, you can plug that in. We're gonna be using our tester. And now we'll operate all of our lights and make sure it's working properly. You'll want to make sure you have your left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps and brake lamps. With everything working properly, we're ready to hit the road. And that completes our installation of Mighty Cord fifth wheel/gooseneck trailer wiring harness with seven pole connector on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500.

2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty

Easy to follow instructions, install was a breeze. All 5th wheelers should have this to prevent damage to umbilical or paint on tailgate.

Just what is says . Plug and play simple and easy to in stall .. would buy again

2012 Dodge Ram Pickup

Fit my 2012 Ram 2500 long bed perfectly. Plenty of zip ties supplied to tie everything up.

by:

Excellent kit. Easy plug and play. Came with tie wraps and sheet metal screws. Only thing it didn’t come with is the dielectric grease so I suppose if it were necessary they would have included it.

Installed on the right side wall of 2018 Nissan Titan XD. Truck has puck system for gooseneck but Nissan didn’t install this in wall until the 2019 trucks which is rather dumb since 2016 with this model and ending with the diesel 2019.

This was a great addition to the tow vehicle. I no longer have the pig tail hanging over the tailgate. I now plug it inside the bed of the truck easy to install and works wonderful

Comments
It works great. It took very little time to install and is a great addition to my truck. It is much easier to hook up and the cord is in the bed of the truck. I have unhitched the trailer without unplugging the cord with no damages. GREAT PURCHASE

2005 Chevrolet Silverado

I ordered the 7 way wiring harness from etrailer.com and the product was just what I needed for my truck the factory end hook right into the socket in a short time I was all done with the wiring.

by:

The harness was delivered in great shape and the installation was straight forward. With all hardware within the kit, I didn't have to search in my garage for anything to complete the install. It is as advertised as a plug and play and works as advertised.

by:

Exactly as described, easy to install in the bed of my F350, my 5er can now plug in the bed instead of at the factory 7 pin at the bumper. Excellent product.

Etrailer.com has everything you need for trailer towing. Products are 1st class and perform. I will be buying all my trailer and towing products here in the future. Shipping is also very fast.

2012 Ram 3500

Was very easy to install and was well made. etrailer is the only place I will go when it comes to buying anything for my cabover camper

by:

Great product! Good thick wiring covered in convoluted wiring wrap. Easy to install, took longer to brainstorm an area to mount and drill a hole in my new pickup than to actually install the product. Connectors are solid with a easy snap into place design identical to factory pigtails.

  • Recommended In-Bed 7-Way for a 1988 Ford F-350
I am not sure of what the factory tow package plug on your 1988 Ford F-350 looks like so if you send me a photo I may have a different option for you but if it looks like the one in the attached photo then you can use the Mighty Cord 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Wiring Harness part # A10-7007 which will retain the 7-way you have at your bumper and provide you with one to use in your truck bed with a gooseneck or 5th wheel trailer. If you don't have this plug then you can still use the above harness...

  • Troubleshooting Error Message Week After 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Wiring Kit Install
It's not common at all to see the type of error message you received after installing the # A10-7007. The install is usually very solid and rarely is there an issue. Since it happened a week later you might check the condition of the wiring and the connectors to make sure everything is still plugged in like it should be and no highway debris damaged the wiring. Also check the original connector for any corrosion on the pins of the connectors as that is a very common problem.

This will allow you have the connection at your bumper as well as a connection in the bed of your truck wherever you choose for a simple connection to your in bed camper. There is no problem with charging your battery for either or both of these connectors....

The in bed wiring harness on your OEM 2017 Ram 3500 connects to the same circuit as your rear bumper 7-way.
