Video Transcript for Optronics Wiring - Trailer Connectors - A7WCB Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number A7WCB. This is the Optronics Seven Way Round Army Style trailer connector. This is a round plug that connects with the seven way round blade connector of your tow vehicle. See here that it has a nice ABS plastic housing so it's going to be very strong and very durable. It's got the connections up here. You also have the interlock system so once you make the connection this will actually lock in place for a nice secure hold. You have the over sized finger tabs right back here that's going to allow disconnecting to be very simple and effortless. You have a couple of set screw back here.

That's just going to control that insert. That's going to really help keep dust and moisture out of the connection points once you have your wires ran through there. You just tighten that back up and that insert's going to close up against the wires providing a nice, secure fit. You have another set screw here on top. That's going to allow this connection point to actually come out of the housing. You run your wires through, get this portion out, make your connections, put it back in, and then reset the screw up top and the screws here on the back. That' s going to do it for our review of part number A7WCB.

This is the Optronics Seven Way Round Army Style trailer connector. .

Parts arrived quickly and were very good quality. I will definitely use etrailer.com for all my trailer supplies.

by:

ETrailer is my first choice for anything relating to trailers (all types). Your web site is easy to use and the products I have bought are good quality. The shipping has been on schedule. Thanks.

by:

Easy to wire and the hard mounted contacts solved the intermittent connection issue I was having with the previous connector that had floating contacts.

by:

Good replacement for existing cable.

by:

I received the order 3 days sooner than the said I would get it. everything was as I expected and will work in replacing broken parts.

by:

I have always had good luck ordering items from you. Unfortunately this product will not work for me. My fault not yours. Would you allow me to return the product? Thank you.

Comments
I will send return instructions to you in a separate email. I would be happy to assist you if you still need a connector. What are you looking for?

Junk. Broke very quickly. Just from normal use. Its cheap, thin plastic with a poor retaining screw.

I recommend taking a look at part # HM48510
Hopkins Endurance Metal Trailer Connector - 7-Pole RV Style - Trailer End
$16.00
. This connector that has a zinc plated exterior and a limited 3-year warranty.

Very easy to install. The labeling was perfect and easy to read for the wire connection. The only thing you need to be careful with is the 2 screws to secure the wiring into the housing. I would recommend using hand tools as they will easily strip if using a power tool. I installed a bigger screw so it would tighten again. Other than that it is a great product.

by:

Plastic behind set screw is cheap

by:

We have an older 5th wheel and needed to change out the connector to match up with our new tow vehicle. The connection worked out perfectly!

by:

not junk that is good

by:

THIS WAS AN EASY FIX FOR THE OLD WORN OUT CONNECTOR I REPLACED. SOME OF MY LIGHTS AND TRAILER BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING. THE CULPRIT, A WORN AND CORRODED
CONNECTOR. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS DESCRIBED AT A GREAT PRICE!

by:

This Connector has held up pretty good so far. I am happy I chose it. I would purchase this again.

Comments
Connector is still working well. Good device.

by:

It works, only a single connection pet plug while other have 2 per plug section. We will see how oong it will hold up

by:

Exactly what I needed.

by:

Perfect fit. Easy to use. Great product. Using this to help trickle charge a battery for the trailer winch.

by:

Used this as a plug for my portable 12V air compressor to facilitate access to power, rather than clips to battery. As usual, over the past several years etrailer is my go-to store for all trailer & towing needs. Excellent variety, price and prompt service. Keep up the good work..............

Comments
We installed the lights on a trailer we were selling. Installation went smooth, lights worked great. We install the trailer plug on a 12V compressor so we could power it from our trailer hook up and it works great also. You are our go-to trailer supply store.

by:

The replacement plug worked perfectly and solved my issues.

by:

Good replacement for my broken plug

by:

Wired it in and it works. Not much more to say. Works on my buddy's 2006 F-150 and on my 2003 Dodge Neon (yeah...you heard that right) and also on my 2016 Sierra Denali.

by:

Once again etrailer came through for me with a quality replacement 7 pin connector plug. The installation was easy and the instruction videos were just what I needed to complete the task without unexpected problems. I had read other reviews saying the RV trailer wire colors did not match the pin color on the plug. My replacement plug pin colors matched exactly with the wiring colors on my RV.

by:

My utility trailer was fitted with a 4 pin plug, but both of my vehicles are fitted with a 7 pin round receiver. It was a hassle always looking for my adapter. This plug fit the bill, it's affordable easy to install, and etrailer is one of the few places I found it available.

by:

I RARELY DO THESE RATINGS BUT YOUR COMPANY HAS BEEN SO INCREDIBLE IN EVERY WAY THAT I AM COMPELLED TO GIVE YOU THE HIGHEST RATING POSSIBLE ON ALL COUNTS--I WISH THERE WERE MORE LIKE YOU!

by:

Great product & great website for information. Was able to install a round connector on a Thule lights bar ((for a bike rack) that replaces a horizontal connector that is used in another country (Australia). Would have cost a lot for an auto electrician but cost $6.00 all up to do it with eTrailers product & info. Thx!!

by:

I USED THE E TRAILER AND POLLAK BRAND AND I WOULD GO WITH THE E TRAILER ACCOUNT OF THE CONNECTION TO HOLD TRAILER WIRES IN ON THE BACK OF THE PLUG.

  • How to Determine the Functions of Trailer Wires to Install a New 7-Way Connector
The easiest way of determining the functions of the wires on your trailer is to apply power to each one individually using a separate 12 volt battery and see what lights up. Then all you have to do is label the wires and attach them to a trailer side 7-Way such as # A7WCB. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. Since there is no standard for wire color and function the wires will have to be tested to determine the functions.

  • How to Wire a Replacement 7-Way for a Gooseneck Trailer
7-Way connectors like the # A7WCB that you referenced should be wired by function and not color. Since trailer manufacturers can sometimes use non-standard color wires for the taillight functions of their trailer it is best just to determine the function of each wire from your trailer's wiring and then wire it by function to the 7-way you end up getting. What you can do to determine the function of each wire is use a 12 volt battery like a car battery and run a jumper wire from the positive...

Since there isn't an adapter available to convert the 4-way to a 7-way your best option would be to cut off the 4-way and wire it to a 7-way connector like part # A7WCB. This way your trailer will not require an adapter and everything would work.

It is hard to say exactly how much of the black wire insulation was cut off of the 7-Way Round RV Style Trailer Connector # A7WCB, but after watching the video and having done this myself before, it looks like Rick cut off about 2 inches of the black portion and then about 3/8 of an inch of insulation per wire. • Does 12V Pin on 7-way Trailer Connector Always Have Power
It sounds like you're asking about the 12V circuit on the 7-way trailer connector on the rear of your 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Some vehicles will always have power and some others will not. We don't have this specific information for your vehicle, but to determine if your 12V always has power you can test the pin in the 1 O'clock position on your 7-way. The other pins will have power when the corresponding light is used or the brake pedal is pressed.

  • Why Would New Self-Adjusting Trailer Brakes Seem Weak
We find that at times the self-adjusting brakes need to be "manually" adjusted the first time when they are installed. You can do this by going to a parking lot with the trailer attached. Then drive the trailer in an empty parking lot and apply the brake a number of times to get the proper adjustment. Each time you apply the brakes with either the pedal or the manual override lever the adjustment wheel will click tighter.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Controller That Doesn't Show Trailer Connection

If you don't have any power to the running light pin on the trailer connector on your Ford F-150 then most likely you just have a blown fuse.
