Hey guys, Kevin here with etrailer and today we're gonna be taking a look at etrailer's line ofreplacement magnet kits for electric trailer brake assemblies. Each of these replacement brake magnets fit a specific brake assembly. So you are gonna wanna knowexactly what size brake assembly that you have before you go ahead and purchase that replacement magnet. This specific one is designedfor 10 inch brake assemblies, which are typically gonna beon your 3,500 pound axles. So if you don't know exactly what size brake assemblyyou have, one good bet is to look at the capacity of your axle and that will typically getyou in the right direction of what your brake assembly is. Now, typically this isn't a part that you would normally want to replace.
Essentially, if this is kind of worn out then your whole assembly istypically also worn out itself. This would be a good time to take a look at your brakeshoes, look at your pads, just see how worn in they are. In our case today, it wasn't an issue with the brake assemblybecause this is all brand new. It just happened to be justhow they ran that wiring for that brake magnet at the factory causing an issue whereit was shorting out. To begin our installationwe'll have to get to our brake assembly and todo that we will first need to remove our wheel which we'vealready gone ahead and done.
Then we're gonna pull out our pin and take our castle nut off. Then we can start workingout our outer bearing. Usually you can just pull on that, that'll kind of give you enough pressure to pop it right off. Set that down on a nice clean towel. And work the rest of our hub off.
Taking a look at our brake magnet, we can see kind of where it failed. Down here on the actual magnet itself, it's starting to flake off. You can see that it started to heat up and it really startedtearing into the magnet. If we look at our wiring though, that's the major cause here. This was sitting here rubbingagainst our brake shoe and just eating up the wire, then the wire wasshorting and overheating.
On the back we're gonnahave this little clip. We're gonna go ahead and just pop it off. Just kinda sit here and slowly work it out 'cause we're gonna have to reuse it. I'm just using a flathead screwdriver. (metal clanging) And once we have that out, wecan pop our wiring through. So I've gone ahead and I cut that wire and worked out our littlegasket that we had there. I'm gonna slip that aside for now. And now I'm gonna go ahead and just pop off these three clips and then the one that's insideof our brake right in here. And go ahead and just get thatoff real easy right there. Make sure these are loose. Start pulling our wiring back. (metal clanging) And we'll also remove this spring. So your new brake magnet is not gonna come with these little clipsthat go along the brake shoe so we're gonna have to reuse those. And as you can see with this one, they way, way over-tighten that down so it actually cut into the wire itself. So that could be anotherreason why this magnet failed. So we're gonna just try andwork our screwdriver in there and just pry it up a bit and get it off. On your spring, you're goingto have a little portion where it's kind of bent down, got that 90 degree angle that's what's gonna clip intothis little hole right here and hold this spring in place. So we're gonna try to get that on here. So I'm gonna take thatback part, slip it through, popped right in no problem for us. Then we can go ahead andslip on our new brake magnet. Push that in a bit and we'llstick on our center clip. Now they do give you anew one with this kit. This is the only clip that you will get. So like I said, make sure youhold onto those other ones. I'll just push that in place and that's gonna keep our magnetfrom being able to pop off. From there we'll go ahead andwe'll sneak our wiring back and just up around andreplace our clips on. And I'm just gonna put'em in the same spot where we already had our clips and sneak our wiring out the back. Get rid of some of that excess. Go ahead and slip on all of our clips. And this time we're notgonna go nearly as tight as the previous one, justso we don't have any issues. Slightly squeeze that down justuntil it's kind of touching, we still want this to beable to move just a bit. Go ahead and tuck that inplace and put our clip back on. And just keep repeating that process as we work our way back. I'm gonna go ahead andreplace my gasket on here. Push that back in place and then I'm gonna stripthe casing back on this just a little bit 'cause we're gonna usingheat shrink butt connectors to attach to our wirescoming from our junction box. Put on some heat shrink butt connectors. Definitely recommend goingwith heat shrink just because these are gonna be outand exposed to the elements. You don't want a chance ofany water getting in there and corroding it and thenyour brake's not working. And it doesn't matter whichwire you hook up to which. So we can go ahead and we'll probably just slip this top onein and crimp it down. And repeat that with our other wires. Shrink down our heatshrink butt connectors. You can use a heat gunlike I'm gonna do today or if you just had a lighter, you can go ahead and use that as well. (heat gun whirring) Next I'm gonna go ahead and just kinda zip tie this up just a little bit. I'm gonna leave enough so thatwhen the axle kind of moves, you know, it's not gonnaget pinched on anything but I also don't want it hanging too low where it's gonna get caught on anything. Now that our brakes back in place, we can go ahead and reassemble our hub. Just push that on, we'llplace on our outer bearing. And we can just use our castle nut to kind of drive in our outer bearing. We're just gonna go until that's tight and then we'll back it off sowe can get our pin in place. So got no movement out of the hub. A little tight from just my hands, so we're gonna back that off just a bit. Right about there. Still no play. So now we can stick in our pin. And then we'll justbend that back in place. Now we can go aheadand throw on our wheel. (tire clanging) Replace our lug nuts and thenthe cap over our spindle. Well, I think aboutdoes it for today's look at etrailer's line ofreplacement magnet kits for electric trailer brake assemblies. My name's Kevin, thanks for watching. .

Replace the worn or damaged magnet on your electric trailer brake assembly. Fits 7" assemblies with a 2,000-lb axle rating. Includes magnet, clip, and spring.Excellent service and fast shipping. I will be ordering my trailer parts from etrailer.com again when needed.
Works as it should. No problems with ordering or delivery
works well good value
Shipment arrived one day "late"....ups transferred the package to usps last minute. Not very happy about that.
I bought 4 of these for a twin axle trailer. Used it about 20, 000 miles so far. 3 magnets worked for sure, the 4th brake did not work, but not sure if it was magnet or something else. I got tired of taking wheel and wheel bearings apart each time to check things so stayed with 3 brakes.
Anyway the magnets fit perfectly as replacements.
Parts were quality. Quick response.
Seems to work well. Unfortunately, the retaining clip broke, So the magnet is loose inside the drum. I’ll likely just replace the whole thing next year. Will use brand-name next time.
same quality as oem parts at 1/3rd the cost. etrailer also has great service. the order went out quickly and I had minimal downtime while waiting for the parts.
Install directions were clear making task easy. I needed assistance testing the e- brake after install. Support was easy to reach and provided fast, accurate advice. Works perfect!
I just got back from a trip and this is the first real opportunity I've had to place a shout out to e-trailer and Leah. I placed an order for a couple of items and did not pay attention to the shipping information. Luckily, Leah called on the Sunday afternoon a few days before my trip to insure I realized the shipping date of my order because one of the items was out of stock. I did not. Leah helped me get sorted out and the important items got to me in time for my trip. Thank you Leah for your assistance.
I bought this as a replacement for one I had as a backup. They were helpful finding the right part and I received it within a few days. etrailer has been my go to company for all of my trailer parts, regardless if it is for my car, truck, motorcycle, or assorted trailers.
Installation was easy and product worked great. Etrailer had the product in stock after our local truck accessories store said it was obsolete.
Etrailer is my go to for my camper trailer and my truck where I bought and installed a brake controller as well.
Their customer service is great!
I bought a used 1997 Jayco camper that needed some work but still in good shape. One thing that needed work was the brakes, the old magnets were weak and would not stop a 4400 lb trailer. I found these replacement magnets that were exact match to the originals. You get whats in the product description and photo. Plus fast shipping
Magnets for the brakes weren't the exact fit but they were as close as could be found. Had to slightly alter the mounting pins that they went onto . they became quite noisy after about fi e hundred miles . still using them until I can save up to get complete new brake systems .
Haven't installed the brake magnet yet but looks to be an exact match to the old one. As for the seals I ordered, I learned not to trust my owners manual. It listed a part number to get for seal replacement so I ordered them and etrailer delivered them very efficiently only to find out the i.d. was not a fit. I should have checked the dimensions before ordering. I have found other discrepancies in my Aliner manual so it's not to be relied on. Thanks for fast service, etrailer.
The product is great and the installation was easy. It was back ordered so the delay was a bit of a disappointment but I am very happy with the pieces
Great service. These parts were the replacement spring and clip that got lost from another order.
I didn't notice parts were missing until I disposed of the box.
Awesome store for trailer parts. Cannot find electromagnets for 7” 2000Lb trailer anywhere but here. Quick shipping. Very satisfied.
Great magnets, better braking performance then the originals and super fast shipping, will order from again.
Installation was a no-brainer. All parts fit exactly. When testing with a fully charged battery the magnetism held my screwdriver quite strongly.
Just what I needed.
Thanks etrailer
Great value! The same product out at my local RV dealer is over 7 times the price. I can't see any difference in quality or construction.
The magnets worked great.
Excellent part to replace the broken one on a used popup I bought. Exact fit! Only trouble I had was the retention clip broke when I was putting it on, fortunately I still had the old one.
By accident another product was shipped and I did get a free return and then this is the correct item and it works very well.
