Self-Adjusting Brakes Don't Require Routine Adjustment

Standard electric brake assemblies require manual adjustment of the brake shoes over time to provide longer-lasting and more efficient braking performance. With self-adjusting brakes, the brake shoes are always properly aligned, so there's no need to manually adjust the brakes after the initial adjustment. The brakes are fine. Easy to install. Disappointed in either quality control or shipping. One of the brakes had both wires cut. I had to splice a new set of wires inside the brake. Easy for me to do, it just made the install take longer. I've included pictures of the damaged wires as well as the other brake that had no damage.

Replaced the old electric brakes on my 1984 Gore Trailer and these fit perfect. The bearings and oil seal included in Part BK2-100 we’re also a perfect match!


They came in a box just smahing into each other the whole time. 1 of them got all out of wack in the box, and I had to figure you to get it back in place. They look like decent quality. And arrived quickly.

The brakes were very easy to install. The packing was terrible for such a large heavy box.
Hardly any packing material between the units.
One of the springs attached to shoe came loose and I was forced to re-install. Glad I had 2 sets I was able to use one as a guide.

After 1 year no issues or problem. Brakes seem to be working great.

The right brake assembly arrived with the adjuster sprocket and lever misaligned and not even touching one of the shoes, so I had to disassemble that half and put it back together correctly. The assemblies also didn’t come with nuts to bolt them to the axles, so I had to get those separately. Otherwise, they seem to be a good value, especially with the free and quick shipping.

You are correct, these brake assemblies come with the following: Left-hand [drivers-side] brake assembly, right-hand [passengers-side] brake assembly, and mounting bolts. However, the nuts and lock washers are sold separately. We recommend part # BRKH10B

Left hand brake assembly was correct and in working order,, right hand brake assembly was assembled incorrect,, I had to fix it before I put it on the trailer

I added these brakes to the second axle of my tandem-axle trailer to compensate for a very poor quality set from another supplier. The difference in performance is like night and day. There is some concern with one of the self-adjusting brakes overtightening, but etrailer customer service said it should be no problem. Time will tell.

The end result has been quite satisfactory. The overtightening of the self adjusting brake one side only was due to an out-of -round drum, which was a continuing problem. I learned the cause of the problem from another source, but experienced staff at etrailer should have been familiar with the issue. After correction, hauling my 2500 pound sports car 1500 miles was accomplished without further issue. The brakes worked well.

In a large box with really no packaging material between the items, pretty sad they can’t spend any time properly packaging As you know how delivery companies like to throw boxes around


I was originally looking for just parts to rebuild the brakes on our project trailer when I ran across these. I chose the self adjusting for the ease of it and the parts have worked great. Bolted right up to our axel and have had no problems. Like everything else I own we have abused them beyond their original purpose.

This product has been impressive. We got a lot for our money. I was a little leery of buying something cheap. These were middle of the road price range. When we received them and I opened them up it was obvious these were of better quality than what I was expecting. After a year now we’ve had no problems. Great purchase

After ordering 2 conplete sets of brakes for well over $XXX for each order and unfortunately, having to return all brakes, we still have not gotten our money back or credited to our credit card from the first set. Not pleased by this service at all. Company gives no timeline on how long it takes to get our money credited back to our account. They say they don't know!! This is an amended review. Very unhappy with this company. If you order from them, hopefully, you will not have this issue. Just hope and pray you don't have to return anything to them. If you do, you may be sitting and waiting for the credit to show on your credit card just like we have been doing.

Changed out original manually adjustable brake assemblies on LCI tandem 3500# axles. The brakes had become contaminated by grease from using super lube set-up. These self adjusting assemblies went on very easily and I expect good results. Repacked hub bearings and installed new grease seals. Lesson learned; Disassemble hubs to service bearings conventionally. Self adjusting is the good thing that came out of it.


After about a year of having these, I can only give them 3 stars. They do self adjust, and I admit I LOVE that. That's why I bought them, so that I wouldn't have to keep climbing under the trailer to adjust the brakes. However, these have not eliminated that hassle for me...hence the 3 stars. They self adjust so well that I've had to get under the trailer and back them off TWICE in the last year. They get the brakes so tight that any input from the brake controller would lock up the wheels. I literally had to turn off the brakes to keep them from locking up. I was seriously considering putting these on my other trailers, but not now. I spend more time under my trailer now, than I did before the purchase. I don't have enough time to do that with all 3 of my trailers.

Well, Ive put about 2,000 miles on them this year, BUT, I can say I have not had any further issues. The seem to be performing well, and have needed any more adjustment. I guess they need the initial adjustments to be a little lose.

Only giving this 3 stars because of packaging of the electric trailer brakes themselves. They both came loose in a large box, so they were bouncing around inside the box and just wrapped in brown paper. Box was banged up (which is normal) but was just surprised they were not protected better. Other than that, super happy, bolted right on. The rebuild kits for the spindles were all the correct bearings and pars. SO all is well.


The product itself seems to be great !
the shipping/packaging was poor, allowing these heavy items to beat against other, actually shifting parts on the backplate significantly to be unusable, as shipped/received. I was able to PRY the parts back into place, as they are under heavy Spring Load.
It looked like the brake pads may have been chipped on the edges, but believe they are still usable.

I like etrailer ! But disappointed in some of their packaging solutions.

Product came today. Packaging was great. Wish i didn't miss the mounting hardware kit for the electric brake kit.
Will be installing this weekend on my trailer I am restoring.


I have an old trailer; 3000lb axel, 10" ×1.75". Etrailer sales suggested I try this common 10 x 2.24. It fit on the trailer, the drum slid over the new brake assembly but was 1/2" from seating. If you have an old trailer 10 x 1.75, you may need the brake assembly, new drum and bearings. Etrailer was helpful and patient with me.

I needed to upgrade the brake system on my boat trailer. I found the company that made the surge brakes had gone out of business. I found etrailer and bought everything I needed to convert to electric brakes. The pieces arrived quickly with great instructions, everything fit as it was supposed to, and the whole system works beautifully.
Great company to work with. A+ in my book.

This was an upgrade
to my 2015 Suretrac 5x8 square tube single axle utility trailer. The trailer was not equipped with them when I purchased it. I quickly realized after two trips with a full load that they would easily improve safety.

My tow vehicle came equipped with an integrated brake controller as well as a 7 way rv plug.

I performed this installation with the trailer raised up an only a inch or two, resting on safety stands. !! Of course, a lift would make this operation go much easier. !!


THE etrailer parts were easy to assemble. All fit perfectly together. Obviously I did have to adjust the brakes a small amount to get them within the activation reach.


1) To insure correct wiring it required extra patience and planning. I found the information regarding what wire activated what to be a bit confusing online. Using an inexpensive test light proved extremely helpful. For me it helped to determine from the start each connection point and color code that were meant for each other (in my situation changes in coding took place). To make it go smoothly I drew our a schematic before getting settled underneath. Note: that I have included images of the old flat plug wiring along with the coding.

2) If I were to do this again, I WOULD HAVE spliced the wiring to both L & R brakes before hand. Lying flat on my stomach underneath the trailer and trying to both properly strip and crimp the short pieces of wire from each brake to the 12 gauge lengths of wire was a little tedious.

(1) 12ft section of black 12 gauge

*Additional grease, both tube and tub type were purchased along with large rubber gloves for greasing and hub installation.

NOTE: at this date I have NOT yet driven the trailer with the brakes. I had only tested them by hand spinning each wheel while having someone actuate the [trailer brakes only] from the vehicle.


Brakes fit great and were easy to install, much easier and cheaper than putting on new pads and springs and magnets and ….


My trailer brakes were weak, so I checked them out... 3 of the 4 sets had linings that had come of the shoes. I started checking prices on replacement parts, but found the price of an entire assembly cheaper than a few parts. Called etrailer and spoke with Ashley to confirm part numbers and availability. Ordered a set of 4 complete brake assemblies for my trailer.
The parts arrived within a few days. I replaced all 4 sets in about an hour and 15 minutes! Completely straight forward process! An impact wrench will help remove the 4 nuts from old assembly.
My trailer now has brakes again!! Thanks to Ashley and etrailer for good prices, good information, quick shipping, and great replacement parts!

Pictures show a lining off my original brakes; one new assembly; one new assembly installed; and finally both assemblies installed on one side of my trailer.


Received brake kits 4 days ahead of schedule. Kits are excellent, but large shipping box allowed brakes to slam from one end to the other.During shipping one of brakes came apart. The pin holding the brake shoe was missing. Had to use pin from old brakes. Suggest better packaging for shipping


Bolt on and crimp the wires. Save the nuts from the old brakes other try an that this is ready to use completely assembled. Will need adjusting but that’s normal. Very pleased. Shipped and packaged perfect.


I would give this product a much better review but I ordered two sets for my double axle trailer and one of the four brake assemblies were wrong. I was in a time crunch and needed the right part ASAP and customer service said I had to pay for expedited shipping even though it was their fault for the wrong item. Therefore, I had to pay a much higher price at a local dealership for the right part. After looking at other customer reviews this is not the first and only incident on receiving wrong parts. was willing to exchange the part for the right one but not fast enough for my needs, so they were willing to fix their mistake but not make the situation right.


The brakes were all messed up. Not together correctly.
