Manual-Adjust Brakes

With repeated use of these brake assemblies, the brake shoes may move out of alignment, causing less efficient braking performance. To keep the brake shoes aligned and the brake assemblies performing correctly, you should perform routine maintenance.

These brake assemblies should be adjusted after installation and then as needed for the life of the brakes. To adjust the brakes, use a brake adjustment screw tool (sold separately) to turn the adjustment gear on the inside of the assemblies. Continue to turn the gear until the drum surrounding the brake catches on the brake pads enough so that the hub can no longer be turned easily by hand. Then reverse the gear by about 10 clicks. A properly adjusted brake should drag slightly on the brake drum.

Thoroughly Tested for Safety

These brake assemblies meet the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. These brake assemblies underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. These brakes have also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Automotive-Grade Friction Material

Each shoe on these brake assemblies is lined with automotive-grade friction material for improved stopping performance and longevity. The friction material is fully bonded onto the surface of the brake shoe. This lining is custom-molded for a perfect fit. The edges are tapered to ensure long-lasting performance. This taper, along with the circular grinding that the lining undergoes, helps to prevent cracking and crumbling. This durability helps to prevent mechanical lockup, which can occur when brake shoes are excessively worn or broken.

The friction material is also SAE-N certified, which means that it is an environmentally safe product that complies with California and Washington regulations regarding the composition of brake pads. As a result, this material not only provides high-performance braking that can endure the test of time, but it is also environmentally friendly and safe for use throughout the United States and Canada.

My order came damaged. I feel you should not have to wait 22 minutes on hold to talk to a customer service person. I have tried calling many times and the wait time is almost the same. I do not have the time to wait. I guess I am going to buy local since the cost wasn’t too different. I guess it is only about the money. There’s no such thing as quality anymore.

I am sorry your order arrive damaged. Customer Service will email you.

I ordered these to replace the original brakes on my trailer after I started having problems with mine (see details below if interested). They are good quality and were easy to mount and assemble. They definitely made a difference in how well my trailer is braking. I definitely recommend these if they are what you need.

However, I will say that the shipping was delayed by about 4 days. This may not be etrailer's fault, but they use UPS and I've been having horrible luck with UPS's shipping service lately. Everything has been delayed. So just be aware that if you order with the standard ground with UPS these will most likely not arrive on time.

The second problem that I had was that I ordered a set of drum/hub combos to go with these on a separate order. After 2 days of seeing no progress on my order I had to email and call to find out that the order was delayed. There was no update from etrailer without me asking. I ended up having to cancel that order and purchase through a local supplier whom I will likely start using from now on.

To detail the braking problems, I purchased my 2008 Toy Hauler about two months ago. We've towed about 1,200 miles with it so far and I noticed from day one that the brakes weren't as responsive as they should be. As we were entering our neighborhood from our last trip my Tekonsha Prodigy 3 started flashing red and reading that there was a shortage and that I had a brake overload and that there were no brakes. This was fairly spiritic but eventually became constant. Based off of information I found from posts on this site, it seemed like it might be one of the magnets not making sufficient contact with the drum. It seems like this was the case. During my repair, I found that one of my grease seals had blown and grease had gotten into one of the brake assemblies and it looked like that entire hub/assembly/etc. had stopped working properly. After replacing the entire brake assembly, drum/hub, bearings and seals on all four wheels everything is working great! I probably only needed to replace the brake assemblies, but decided that for another $350 I would have peace of mind knowing that everything is at it's best!

Thanks etrailer for the helpful information and quality parts!

These were exact fit, easy to replace and would definitely recommend. Definitely invest in the brake spoon tool ( bought one with my order) for adjusting these after the wheel is back on. Definitely worth it and etrailer nailed it again. In the photo, the axle on the right is the new brake assembly and the one on the left..... well that is the reason I bought four new brake assemblies!!!!! Thanks.

Still working well. Have not had any issues to date .... knock on wood

Parts are great can't beat em for the price, shipping department needs to do a better job though. Box was full of holes and there was hardware that had come out, luckily our ups driver picked em up. All the loose hardware needs to be bagged separately at minimum to prevent missing parts. The brake adjusters with their corresponding springs fall out of the backing plates when not tensioned.

I am glad that the UPS driver was able to pick up the hardware, I will definitely let our shipping department know.

Finally got the brake assemblies installed as part of an overhaul. Went beautifully, beats screwing around with shoes and hardware.

These were a no-brainer. Got these for a 25yr old trailer with rusted out brakes, and for the peace of mind, this is money well spent.

Could have been packed with more padding though -- these were just paper-wrapped in a cardboard box that had some damage; fortunately the parts were all fine.

Had a 2008 Hudson HSE18 equipment trailer with brakes that seemed intact but would never really work and provide any stopping power. The inside of the drums was quite rusty from years of intermittent use. Rather than put in serious time to clean, wire wheel, and lubricate everything, I splurged on these new assemblies. With these installed everything works great. I think the previous set's issue was a combination of weak/worn magnets and the corrosion inhibiting free movement.

No regrets springing for the whole assemblies.

Still working great!

Got the brakes, bearing’s and seals a day early and plan to install them tomorrow morning. Also fast shipping and the folks at etrailer are very nice and knowledgeable. My go to for trailer and truck hitch accessories for over 12 years.

Great affordable brakes. Adjusted them and tested them out and they work great. Using a trailer brake controller in the truck as well and have no complaints yet. Towed about 5k miles on this system so far. I saw a ton of those advertisements for wires that have heat shrink and are waterproof and you don't need to solder. Saying when you apply heat to them, it melts the solder. Tested them out and they actually work great and are waterproof.

Bought new left and right hand drum brake assemblies to replace the ones on my tandem axle 28ft toyhauler that were ruined due to axle grease blowing out the backside. Pleased to see they were Axletek assemblies. Install was easy, put new bearings and Dexter Wet bolt kit.

The confidence with part selection from the website put me at ease and made it easier for me to order these break parts.I am very pleased with the install videos and products.

very poor packaging parts were damaged and missing, everything was just thrown into a large box nothing was individually wrapped on the inside. I don't know why I use this company this is not the first time this has happened

I inherited a 20 y/o car hauler that needed brakes added to the front axle. After dreading it, I finally did some research, all of which I used etrailer's articles to do, and bought this brake kit. Stupid simple to install and I'll most likely buy another set to replace the 20 y/o original brakes on the rear axle. Made an annoying problem an easy fix.

The brakes was exactly what I ordered. I have yet to install them but the brake look to be exalent workmanship. The best part is that it is made from new parts.

Arrived quickly. Good quality replacement parts. Have had no issues with them.

Working as should no issues

Ordered complete brakes and bearings for 8 wheel 16 ton trailer. All mounted up very nicely and I am very pleased with the result. In addition to bearings and brakes I also replaced the lights and added a new 7 pin plug incl a new battery and emergency trailer brake and wirebox. I had never done any of these repairs before, but followed the tutorial videos on e-trailers site. Very happy with result and will recommend e-trailers to anyone that need trailer stuff. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

Probably due to slow down in production world-wide and not etrailer, but it took 6-weeks to receive my order. Truly all the many other orders I have placed with etrailer were processed in an excellent manner! All the reps on-line and by phone have been professional beyond reproach. Thanks!!

The brake kit makes are great , the grease is a great and the bearings kit was not very good . The way they were packaged
Was not acceptable.

Delivered earlier than expected and exactly what was ordered. I've been buying for year from etrailer and it's always been top notch service.

Just what I needed to replace brakes on my fifth wheel camper and at a reasonable price!!

was in a bind e trailer was there on time
very knowledgeable and helpful

Nice backing plates. Fit perfectly

Customer service, communications, and shipping were all great! Would definitely recommend. Great people to work with.

The brakes were a perfect fit and function flawlessly
