Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

These were purchased for my utility trailer and will only experience water during a rain. Being galvanized will certainly help with rust prevention and I went one step farther by cleaning with acetone and spraying with a good silver paint. The kit wa complete and I hand packed the bearings with Amsoil synthetic grease for less maintenance and longer bearing life. I did not use the Chinese bearing that come with it and purchased Timken bearings. In my opinion the Timken products are superior and can be trusted. They look great, fit properly, no issues, doubt I will ever have to replace again in the future.

by:

Always great to order parts from etrailer, the staff knows what they are doing, and the parts arrived so fast. Pricing is fair, thank you for the good service.

by:

Bought a trailer for my fishing kayak and unfortunately, the tires (and hubs) that came with it were not rated to highway use. I had a trip coming up that was several hundred miles of highway away. Ordered these hubs and they came very quickly, went on as easy as the old ones came off. I’ve pulled the trailer for around 2000 miles and everything is tight with no play. Very happy.

by:

etrailer is awesome. Good pricing and excellent customer service. I received the wrong bearings, called customer service and the correct bearing were expedited that day. Can't ask for more than that.

by:

Always have what I need and super fast shipping!

by:

I bought a small trailer and made the mistake of not thoroughly inspecting and greasing the hubs before using it. A couple weeks later, a hub completely failed on the highway, and the internal bearings had been ground into powder. I limped home and promptly replaced both hubs with these from etrailer. The video and instructions made installation much easier, and I had both done in a couple hours (I'm not a mechanic). I upgraded the supplied outer cap with the corresponding Bearing Buddy, and this is a HUGE, very worthwhile upgrade. Etrailer should link the two together as a package! I now easily check and fill the grease every time I use it, and the hubs have been excellent. They were a great value and overall great product, and a year after purchase, they are running strong! Highly recommend.

by:

This is a great quality product. Prior to installation I didn't have to use wheel chocks because of gritty bearings. After installation my bearings were nicely greased making the trailer roll easy. Plus the support provided by the technical staff and the website made specification and installation very easy. Sandy J went out of her way to answer all my questions and ensure I had the best product for my application.

by:

Ordered new axel and hubs to replace my bent axel on older utility trailer. Instructions for ordering the correct parts was clear and easy. It was shipped the same day as ordered. Arrived in record time in great condition. Good quality. Perfect fit.

Comments
Worked well. Have put on many miles without problems.

by:

I ordered the wrong hubs at first because I made a poor assumption about my spindles. I was able to get good information both from their FAQs and from a customer service rep. I took their suggestion on the correct sized hubs and the new ones arrived a few days later. The bearings fit perfectly. Sold the wrong hubs on craigslist super fast because it would have cost too much to send them back. Thanks again for the support and accurate information!

Comments
I drove the trailer from RI to Maine and back last year and the hubs were great! Cant wait for this upcoming season.
Will W - 04/02/2018

by:

Needed bearings for a boat trailer. For just a little more than the cost of getting bearings locally I got all new bearings and upgraded to galvanized hubs...which is a big plus for a trailer consistently backed into the water. A year later they look like new after washed.

by:

The hub, bearing and seal assembly appear to be good quality. I had a very difficult time installing the bearing buddy assembly to the hub requiring file fitting to make it work. I had to use a larger hammer than usual to drive them in.

by:

Everything works great, good quality parts, even great customer service when I received a couple bad bearings due to ups not being careful they where on it and got replacements no problem. Recommend these hubs and business for all trailer needs

by:

Excellent product. Great customer service. I needed two additional bearings and e-trailer staff was prompt in shipping the item. I am a repeat customer and will continue to buy frome-trailer.

by:

YOUR SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT YOUR PRODUCTS FIT AND PERFORMED WELL .AND AT HALF THE PRICE THAT I NORMALLY PAY. NOT TO MENTIONSPEAKING WITH A REAL PERSON WHO ANSWERED MY QUESTIONS AND HELPED TO RECOMEND THE PARTS NEEDED TO FIT MY NEEDS . YOUR MY PARTS SOURCE IN THE FUTURE. THANKS!

by:

Finished the trailer and drove from Chicago to North Carolina with a loaded trailer and no problems.

by:

Hubs fit on my 2007 Magic Tilt Trailer. Good service and delivery time.

by:

Good quality merchandise, still as good as the day it was installed

by:

Excellent hub for my boat trailer

by:

Complete, easy to install and a direct replacement !

by:

Not pretty, but good enough.

Comments
They will get the job done. They are on a light duty trailer for kayaks. I wanted to use 12 inch aluminum wheels on the hubs and found that the wheels would not fit the hubs with the center caps in the wheels. The wheels fit fine without the center caps and they look good enough for me. so no problem. FYI only.
Ted K - 09/16/2019

by:

it still works perfectly, a year later

by:

Good information and selection, very fair pricing, excellent assistance, prompt shipping. Far easier and better than driving to town and chasing down parts.

by:

Parts worked wonderful. Easy to install and parts are still working.

by:

Absolutely no problems after one year.

by:

Holding up great.

  • How to Select Replacement Hubs for 1970s Dilly Trailer with 4-Lug Hubs
The best way to select a new hub is to match it based on the bearing set used in the original part. New hubs must use the same bearings as your old ones in order for them to fit on your spindles, so if you can find the part numbers from your inner and outer bearings you'll be most of the way toward knowing the right replacement hubs. Please refer to the linked photo that shows the usual placement and appearance of bearing part numbers. With those part numbers you can directly search on...

  • Determining BT8 or BTR Spindle on Trailer
The easiest way will be to pull off a trailer wheel and hub and then use a caliper like # PTW80157 to measure the spindle diameter where the bearings ride. If the diameter is .99 then you have the BT8 spindle or if it's 1.06 you have the BTR. The trailer hub # AKIHUB-440-2-G-2K you referenced would be what you'd need if you have the BT8. • How to Choose Correct Replacement Hubs for Boat Trailer with 2,200 lb Axle
To ensure that you get the correct replacement hub assembly you need to check the part numbers on your bearings and your grease seal. If you pull the hub you should find them stamped right on the bearings and seal themselves. Luckily trailer axles have become more standardized in the recent past so I can tell you that they should be # L44649 bearings and your seal should be a 10-9 (with an inner diameter of 1.50"). If this is the case then I recommend going with galvanized hubs as they...

The two hubs you mentioned, # AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K and # AKIHUB-440-2-G-2K fit different spindles. More specifically they use different bearings and seals.
