Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

i found these wheels to be sturdy and the guys that put my tires on said that they balanced very easy , made a world of difference on my ride great package and fast shipping , i have told a lot of people where i got them at

3's a charm. The first one received was out of round giving the tire a "hop". Etrailer was quick to get me a second one that happened to bent. They were quick to respond again and had the 3rd wheel checked by a local tire shop before send it. The wheel mounted a balance fine and seems well made. Etrailer did everything right in taking care of the issues. Thank you.

Sent wrong product. Sent 2 different pr oducts.

I know that it is frustrating to receive your order and have the part be incorrect. I will definitely have our customer service team contact you so we can have this taken care of.

Placed the order and they arrive pretty quick , the powder coating looks great. I had put after market artillery wheels on my Airstream trailer that were not rated for the weight had hair line cracks leaking . Getting ready to put some miles on the 59 Airstream and did not want to have any problems these wheels are going to look great with the chrome hub caps.

These rims are perfect replacement if you're restoring an older airstream. Also baby moon hubcaps look perfect. Great match to the original equipment. The best thing is I won't have to try to search for 14.5 tires in the future because these rims are 15-in

Easy ordering, quick ship. Product as promised. Will order again from etrailer

Perfect fit. Good steel easy mounting.
buy again

I am very pleased with my order. Couldn’t ask for a better salesperson. Kimberly is top notch!!!

After searching for steel wheels with vintage style caps, I purchased these wheels after speaking with the customer support people, that assured me the caps would fit and these would fit my Airstream, I bought these along with the Cone style caps, I had them powder coated the color we wanted, they turned out great, and great customer service.

One of the set came in bent, replacement was fine. Nice rims

Wheels worked great.

Lazer, the sales
assistant, was very helpful!

Very pleased, Lazer was a big help!

rims came fast and un damaged, whith i nice powder coat, they fit my vintage camper just like the old ones

I replaced all 4 split rims on my 63 Airstream with these. They are a perfect replacement and they even fit the cone shaped metal hub caps. Look and preform wonderfully.

The cost was the cheapest I found, yet the quality of the product was outstanding. I was surprised to find the shipping was free, which made this purchase and excellent deal from all aspects. I will look for more great deals with

Good stuff

The rims were timely, well packaged, and exactly what I needed.

The wheels look very nice and came to me quickly, I'm very pleased!

Wheel is better than I expected.

The service was excellent and the merchandise was quickly delivered. I recommend this site for top quality merchandise .

Very happy with product and appearance. Bought this as a spare to match my original wheels on my '58 Chevy Apache. I haven't gotten a flat yet so I haven't actually used it but it does fit well, looked good out of the box and was as described. I have recommended it to other classic car/truck owners.

These wheels are a perfect match for my 1963 Airstream travel trailer. Received wheels quickly with no damage. An added bonus, I was also supporting a Missouri Local company. I will definitely be supporting this company in the future.

Curious what you used ad hubcaps or center caps!? Im trying to set up a 63 airstream.

I used a cone center caps. You could also use a dome style center caps.

  • Can I Put Wider Tires on a 17 Inch Wheel
It sounds like you're looking for passenger vehicle tires which we don't carry. All of the tires and wheels we carry are for trailers. I did find that a 245/65-17 szie tire fits a wheel between 7 and 8-1/2 inches wide. I'm not able to find any info on a 225/70-17 size tire so I'm wondering if you may have mistyped it. Although a 225 is 20 mm thinner than a 245 which is just under an inch and a similar size of 225/75-17 fits a 6 to 7-1/2 inch wheel. So both of those size tires fit a...

  • 6-on-5-1/2 Bolt Pattern 15-Inch Trailer Wheel with 3.65-Inch Pilot Hole
When choosing a new hub/drum you want to match up a few things, including your wheel size and the set of bearings used in the hub. The bearings in the new hubs have to be the same as those in your current hubs in order for them to fit on your spindles. You also need to match the wheel bolt pattern and the hub weight capacity. I have linked for you both our page for hubs in your bolt pattern and that are compatible with 15-inch trailer wheels and also our page for trailer wheels in your...

  • Do Both 6 Lug 15 Inch Wheels and 6 Lug 16 Inch Wheels Have the Same Spacing for a Trailer
The vast majority of trailer wheels with a 6 bolt lug pattern will have a spacing of 5-1/2" whether that be on a 15" or 16" diameter wheel. However, in order to be certain you can measure which is pretty easy to do using the attached help article. If you are swapping out your 15" wheels for 16" wheels then you will need to also make sure you have additional clearance as well, 4" between the top of the tire and bottom of the fender is recommended. I have attach our 16" wheel selection with...

  • Can I Downgrade Vehicle Tires From 235/65-17 to 245/65-17
As long as the 235/65-17 tires are rated properly for your vehicle you can downgrade from a 245/65-17. How much the vehicle weighs, passengers and cargo determine how much weight capacity your tires should be rated for. If you have the passenger tires on a trailer it depends on the loaded weight of the trailer if you can downgrade to the smaller tire. Most of the research I found on 235/65-17 said they can handle up 1984 lbs of weight per tire. The 245/65-17 said 2149 lbs of weight per...

  • Measuring Tires for Compatibility and Fit When Upgrading Sizes
Your 235/65R17 tires on your truck are 29 inches in diameter and have a width of 9.3 inches with 6 inch sidewalls. The 255/65R17 tires will be 30.1 inches diameter with a width 10 inches and 6.5 inch sidewalls. So you will need to measure the clearances on your truck to determine fit. Measure 1/2 inch above your current tread to determine wheel well clearances and then measure 3/8 inches from the inner sidewall and outer sidewall to determine clearances when your wheels are straight...

  • Correct Bolt Hole Pattern for 15 Inch Wheels
Grinding out the lug holes on your wheels to fit, will compromise the integrity of your wheel and its ability to function correctly. The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel, # AM20514, that you have referenced has a zero offset. This rim is 15 inches by 6 inches and has a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. It accepts bolt size 1/2 Inch-20 and has a pilot diameter of 3.65. If this matches your existing wheels on your 2004 Airstream trailer then this rim will fit. • Can I Use A Passenger Vehicle Wheel In Place of Trailer Wheel on Nomad Tandem Trailer
I cannot recommend using a vehicle wheel in place of a trailer wheel for any period of time. Passenger vehicle wheels are not manufactured the same as trailer wheels and not made to handle loads like trailer wheels. To determine which wheel you will need, you will have to measure the bolt pattern of your Nomad trailer (see FAQ). You will also need to measure the diameter of the wheel and the correct replacement tire size.

  • Using Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20514 on 1977 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser
The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20514 can be used on a passenger vehicle, assuming that the hubs on your Land Cruiser have 6 lugs on a 5-1/2 inch bolt circle and the studs are 1/2 inch in diameter. The wheel has a pilot diameter of 3.65 inches. The wheel has a zero offset, which means that the mounting pad that rests against the hub is centered on the width of the wheel. A positive offset wheel moves the tire closer to the vehicle, while a negative offset moves the tire further away.

  • Size of Pilot Hole on Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20514
The center hole, or pilot hole, on the Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20514 measures 3.65-inches in diameter. This black powder-coated wheel has a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern and a capacity of 2,600 lbs at 75 psi.

  • Backspacing of Dexstar AM20514 Conventional 15 x 6 Steel Wheel
The Dexstar Steel Conventional wheel you referenced, part # AM20514 has a 0 offset, which means that the hub plate or mounting pad is centered along the 6 inch width of the wheel. Half the width of the wheel is 3 inches, plus the distance from the inboard bead seat to the back edge of the rim, which is about 1/2 of an inch, which would make the backspacing at right about 3-1/2 inches.

  • Determining the Correct Wheels for a Trailer
In order to obtain the correct wheel replacement you will need to know your bolt pattern and tire size you prefer. Your pilot hole measurement of 3-9/16 inches you referenced is a good start and I included a link to all the wheels we currently offer. If your wheels are hub-centric, you would want new wheels with the same pilot hole diameter as your current wheels because the wheels must center on the hub bore. If the pilot hole is larger, then the wheel will not stay centered on the hub...

We offer four sizes of trailer wheel with the 6-on-5-1/2-inch bolt pattern: 14-1/2-, 15-, 16- and 16-1/2-inch. Some of these do have a pilot hole diameter that matches your, such as Dexstar wheel # AM20514 which measures 15 x 6. This wheel has a pilot hole of 3.65-inches. You do not want to use a wheel whose pilot hole is larger than the hub center. This would put too much weight load on the studs themselves.

  • Are Trailer Wheels Marked for Where to Mount Trailer Tires
Yes they are marked with the red dot for the radial run out. If you took the wheel to a shop to have them mounted they would know where to put the tire on the rim # AM20514. Typically the yellow dot indicates the point on the tire that SHOULD be mounted next to the valve stem for the best balance. The red dot is the uniformity mark.
