Karrier S-Trail Radials with Automotive-Grade Tread

Kenda Karrier S-Trail Tread Vs Standard Tread

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the automotive-grade, computer-generated tread on these Karrier S-Trail radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Karrier S-Trail tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Karrier S-Trail radials are constructed with double steel belts and full nylon plies for increased durability and endurance. The premium rubber compound materials of this tire help disperse heat.

Beveled Stud Holes

Beveled Stud Holes Front and Back

The stud holes on this steel wheel are beveled to ensure that the wheel stays tight against your trailer hub. This also eliminates the need to constantly retorque the lug nuts.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Radial tire with automotive-grade tread has an 8-ply rating and a 1,220-lb max load at 65 psi. 12" x 4" Steel wheel has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and a corrosion-resistant galvanized finish. Beveled stud holes keep wheel secure.

I'm glad to see I have an option to garbage bias ply 4.80x12 trailer tires. I've tried a lot of them over the years and always the same result, poor quality, ride, and terrible tread life. My last set of bias plys on a 2 ski pwc trailer were already down to the wear bars in a year and maybe 1000-1200 miles.
Ordered these galvanized wheels and kenda radials and as always etrailer got them here very fast and well packed. Took them to my local tire guy and he balanced them. Didn't take much weight and watching them spin showed a straight rim and tire. Installed them and was shocked the first trip to the river. Zero vibration from the trailer! Bias plies seem to bounce and transfer it to my truck through the hitch. These tires are smooth, no trailer bounce, pull great, and I don't see my yamahas vibrating in the rear view mirror.
Fast forward a few months till now. I probably have 5-600 miles on them. Still perfect, zero air loss, zero tread wear noted. I will buy these from now on based on what I'm seeing so far.

Great addition to my small deck over trailer. Load range D tires and a nice Galvanized rim. Shipped quick and packaging was enough that the wheels arrived clean, dry and undamaged. Best price around as well.

I haven't yet taken the boat back to the lake, but being in the mountains with switchback turns, the bias ply Harbor Freight tires just weren't cutting it. I blew obe out on the last trip! I expect these Kenda radials and galvanized rims to last a good while. etrailer is great to work with, and when I noticed a lower price, they gladly matched it. I will continue to buy from etrailer, and Robert was very helpful!

Shipping was extremely fast. Tires fit and look great on my small camper.

Overall nice for the price. I wanted to upgrade to radial tires after a blowout an the freeway with bias tires.

New Wheels, Tires and wheel bolts.

Tires look nice. Low quality galvanized coating on the rims, but typical for Chinese product.

Great tire and wheel combo. Have had them for about a year and no issues. They still look new.

I ordered and received a spare tire and rim. It fit just fine and was at a good price. The order came in just a few days. I am happy with this purchase.

Needless to say this tire and rim size is not easy to obtain. Appreciate the good product and service. This wheel is as close as I can get to match the four that are on my Tritoon boat trailer.

Tires came filled with the correct amount of air, ready to bolt on! Shipping was speedy!

Ericv was awesome in dealing with for this purchase. Tires arrived today and will be installed on the trailer tomorrow.

I received one correct tire(ST145R12) and one incorrect tire(480X12). Now have to send back and wait for correct order.

Fantastic price, great selection, and free shipping to boot. I needed new tires for a long ATV trip and wanted a spare tire as well (I know, I know, but I usually only trailer locally). I ordered these radial tires and rims pre-mounted which allowed me to use one of the old wheels as my spare. Everything performed flawlessly over about 600 miles and even held their torque specs when I checked them during and after the trip. The spare tire carrier compliments the galvanized trailer frame and rims and looks like it will hold up to the elements of the North East. All in all, I highly recommend these products and etrailer.

I purchased two of these tires and installed them on my Triton aluminum double watercraft trailer. They work and fit perfectly, I would not hesitate to purchase these again. Excellent product fast delivery, great service. Vey pleased.

I received galvanized wheels and tires as an upgrade for a very old boat trailer. The new larger radial tires on 12” rims are a great upgrade from the old non-radial tires on 8” rims. Tows smooth and easy on the highway with noticeably less trailer bang & hop on rougher roads at slower speeds. Super easy, super fast delivery. Awesome, thank you.

Grabbed a set of these wheels for my jetski trailer a year ago and they still rolling thanks again for great customer service

Great tires and rim. Great price. Very happy with purchase.

Definitely an upgrade in tire and wheel from original equipment and previous replacements. Put on utility trailer that hauls atv for hunting 130 miles each way at interstate speeds and includes off road hauling too. Included pics of old wheel/tire next to newly mounted tires from etrailer.

I installed these on my 5x8 utility trailer a year ago. They've racked up many miles on different types of roads. Gravel, highway, interstate...

So far I have not had a single problem with them.

I am very pleased with the speed that the wheels and tires were shipped to me. The quality is exactly what was described. I’m looking forward to installing them on my trailer. My only complaint is that one of the wheel and tire combo looked like it had been sitting around a while and the other looks like it was just assembled. There is no difference in quality just appearance. I’m still very pleased.

I just got the tire last night I don't know there was metal shavings where the galvanized had been put on tire looks good but we'll see

Wheels are better Loki g than expected and shipping was very fast.

George, from etrailer, just emailed me and asked if I would offer a review of the AM31202 galvanized rim and tire after 1 year of use. Sure, George, you seem like a nice guy, I'd be happy to give you my thoughts:

I have very little complaint. So far so good after a year. I have yet to lose any air and they ride smoothly down the road. I do carpentry during the summer months, hauling all kinds of stuff all of the place, and they have not let me down yet. The galvanized coating is a bit rough, but as long as the rims don't rust, I guess it doesn't really matter.

Well, that's my review!

Its been a Good Year, so to speak. : I have been very happy with how the tires have performed.

  • Does Kenda Wheel and Tire part # AM31202 Come Machine Balanced
The tire and wheel combos we carry like the part # AM31202 you referenced are not machined balanced. You can have the tire and wheel combos balanced at a local tire shop if you wanted to. What some manufacturers will do is line up the light spot on the tire with the heavy spot on the wheel. This is a type of balancing but not like how car tires are balanced (with weights on a balancing machine). In nearly all situations this balancing process is more than adequate.

  • Do Trailer Tire and Wheel Combinations Need to be Balanced
The tire and wheel combinations that we have available, such as the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12 Inch Wheel # AM31202, are mounted so that the high heavy spot on the tire is aligned with the low light spot on the wheel. While this is different than how car tires are balanced (with weights on a balancing machine), it does provide sufficient balance for trailer tires. While it is not necessary, you can certainly still have the tire and wheel combos balanced at a local...

For a 10 or 12 inch wheel, the bolt patterns we have will be 4 on 4 inch, 5 on 4-1/2 inch and 5 on 5-1/2 inch. • Can Trailer Wheel be Replaced with Wheel that Has Larger Pilot Diameter
Yes, you can go with a wheel and tire that has a larger pilot diameter like the part # AM31202 which has a pilot diameter of 3.19 inch. As long as your current wheel is held on with lug nuts and not lug bolts you can use a wheel with a larger pilot diameter as the wheel centers on the lugs. If you have wheel bolts instead you'd have to match the pilot diameter exactly since the wheel centers on that.

  • Troubleshooting Tire Blowouts on Jayco Pop-Up Camper
Blowing tires frequently is unsafe but there are steps you can take that should prevent blowouts with the volume you are experiencing. When a tire blows out it is because of overheating and that generally happens for a few reasons - they are overloaded and do not have a high enough load rating for the weight of the camper, they are being driven faster than their speed rating or they are not inflated properly. Special trailer tires ("ST") must be inflated to their max psi in order to get...
