Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

This was a great value as opposed to buying new tires and then having to have them mounted. I do wish they would have been balanced, but they seem to run OK. Very nice looking and highly rated tires

Have had very good luck w/these tires. On my sled trailer that I tow from central NY to Northern QC.

I originally ordered a different set of tires/wheels expecting them when the web site said they should arrive. I then received an email stating the order would be delayed for several weeks. I contacted eTrailer, spoke with a Rep, and she was able to sell the next level of tires/wheels for a small amount more, and get them to me sooner than I expected. Excellent Customer Service & the new order worked out fine.

Fast shipment.

Just put these on the trailer. Very good price and really fast shipping! Impressed!M

Going to Maine, Acadia National Park to be precise. Its a twelve hour trip and I needed new tires for my pop up. Etrailer had the load range D tires I wanted at a good price (free shipping was a big plus) and they showed up on time and fit perfect. I had a an excellent buying experience with etrailer. I will test them out this July 4th on a short trip to PA.

very happy with tires one year later

I was surprised how fast the tires and wheel came aaa+ and good price to!

It was easy to find the tire and wheel on your website. Saved me a lot of time running around to locate one.

Good price fast shipping

My trailer tires with rims arrived even earlier than anticipated! I was thrilled - along with the fact that they are exactly as described, and actually, look even better IRL! Thanks again for a great product and awesome customer service, which is so rare these days. I will be spreading the word about your great company.

I found etrailer to have the best price for the product I needed and the service was very professional and quick. I highly recommend you check them out for any trailer needs.

I purchased two of these complete wheels for my snowmobile trailer. They look good and work perfectly. Very happy with their performance.

First, let me state the ordering process is user friendly. The promptness of the shipping department is second to none. The product description and applications, etc is something that etrailer has focused on for ease of purchasing and buying confidence. No I’m not a paid reviewer just a customer who appreciates a business with the customer in mind.
I purchased a set of tires and rims for my snowmobile trailer. Fit and performance is awesome.

Well packaged super fast shipping excellent prices thanks

Got what I ordered two days early.

Came two days early, exactly as oredere d!

great product at a great price and shipping was fast

Tires are doing great!

Don't waste ur time shopping or buying anywhere else. etrailer is quick, EZ and reasonable prices. I love the FAST free shipping. ooh rah

Tires came just as described. All I had to do was add a couple pounds of air to each tire and they were good to go. Put them right on. Got the free shipping and they were still here in 4 days without paying for the quicker ship. Also they were way more affordable than lesser tires that I had priced out at several other places. No one else even had load range D. These D's were better priced than everyone else's load range C.
I can't speak on the wear and tire life as I just put them on.

After 1 year, I have no complaints at all. Still super happy with the purchase!
Bruce T - 07/15/2018

Tires and wheels look good. I have not actually gone anywhere yet with boat and trailer - just mounted them both on trailer.
etrailer was the only place I got the help needed to learn what exactly was needed - lots of back and forth emails before all was done. It's a relief to know all is safe to go.

All is good - will be out on the read again this summer.

  • Replacement Tires for 20.5 x 8 - 10 Tires on a Pontoon Boat Trailer
The 20.5x8-10 size tires on your pontoon boat trailer are an older tire size that is comparable to the 205/65-10 tire size. We do carry 205/65-10 tires to replace your 20.5x8-10 tires, but you will first need to determine the weight capacity of your axle. This will ensure that you choose a set of tires that are rated for the same weight as your axle. In this size we have load range B tires, that have a capacity of 910 lbs, load range C tires that have a capacity of 1,100 pounds, load range...

  • Trailer Tire and Wheel Combo with a 4 Bolt Pattern to Replace a 20.5x8-10 Trailer Tire
The most economical tire and wheel combo with a 4 bolt pattern and 205/65-10 tire (replaces the 20.5x8-10 size) is # AM3H330. It is rated for 910 pounds at 35 psi. So for a single axle the total capacity of the tires would be 1820 pounds. But you still have to stay within the capacity of the trailer/axle if lower than the tire ratings. I have included a link to a video review of this tire and wheel combo for you.

  • Proper PSI For Pontoon Trailer Tires in Warm Weather
Special trailer tires should be inflated to their maximum air pressure. At the maximum air pressure, the tires will perform and wear best, and get the best gas mileage. The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire # AM3H430 has a maximum load carrying capacity of 1,320 pounds at maximum inflation of 70 psi. If the tire is over-inflated, it will wear more in the center of the tread, all the way around the tire. Even in warm weather the psi will not increase that much. Always make sure the tires...

  • 12 Inch Trailer Tire w/ High Load and Speed Rating
You are correct, the 5.30x12 is the SAE nomenclature, while the 145/80-12 is the closest metric equivalent. The two are approximately the same size with the 5.3x12 being about a tenth of an inch narrower and a quarter of an inch taller than the 145/80-12, so either would be a fine replacement for your current size. I'm not sure which two tires you were comparing to get the size differential but a tire's speed rating can vary between different manufacturers of the same tire size, between...

  • Is There a Trailer Tire that Can Have Pressure Lowered for Smoother Ride
Trailer tires really need to have their cold pressure max rating inflated in them at all times unless the brand is Goodyear as their Endurance tires can have the pressure lowered. If you can get me you tire size I can see if there's a Goodyear that fits. Otherwise if you deflate any other brand of tire you'll lower the capacity and cause heat build up. Other option you have would be installing a shock kit on your trailer suspension to soften the ride quality. But you'd need to very for...

  • Trailer Tire Size 215/60-8 vs 205/65-10 on a 2 Place Snowmobile Trailer
If clearance at the wheel wells and the additional inch of height at the coupler and floor is not an issue then larger tires are a good option. Larger tires create less friction as you travel because the number of rotations to go the same distance decreases. A 205/65-10 tire has a diameter of 20.6 inches and width of 8.3 inches. The original 215/60-8 tires have a diameter of 18.2 inches and a width of 8.5 inches. Since you have the clearance, I do recommend upgrading the tire size using...

To ensure that you do have the correct lug pattern for your 1974 Apache Mesa Pop-up Camper you will need to measure the pattern on your wheels. As you do have a 5-lug wheel there are a few ways to measure your wheels but I recommend using the lug to lug method as the hub will be in the way when mounted on your Apache. • Can I Size Up On My Tire Size For My Utility Trailer
This may be possible, but there are some things you need to be aware of before you continue. First, the load range of your tire should at least match the load range of your existing tires. Next, you need to have enough room for a bigger tire. The new tire and wheel combination will be taller and wider. You will need to make sure you have enough roof for the bigger tire. You will need to account for the change in tire and wheel size AND the travel of your suspension with the new tire and...
