Will Brophy Camper Scissor Steps Work for You?
Scissor steps are typically installed on truck campers, but can be attached to your truck's tailgate using a special mounting bracket (TSSB - sold separately). After the initial installation, they're easy to attach when needed and detach for compact storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.
The Brophy scissor steps have a single mounting bracket that attaches to either the camper wall or the truck bumper beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available for the mounting bracket on your application that lines up with the doorframe, and measure the width and height. You will need a mounting space at least 18-1/4" wide and 1" tall.
If it turns out you have more space beneath your doorway, there are larger step assemblies available with 24" wide brackets. A full list of the available steps is below.
Once you have an approximation of where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, the spot you chose will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.
How Many Steps Do You Need?
To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the "mounting point" to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, and it will also tell you how many steps you need.
The chart below displays entry height measurement ranges in the first column. If you determined you need an 18-1/4" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the second column. If you determined you need a 24" mounting bracket width, the step part numbers with that width are in the third column. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

How Do You Install the Steps?
To install the steps:
Find the mounting spot for the bracket on your vehicle
Unfold the steps and attach to the mounting bracket "V" clamps
Place step assembly against camper or bumper
-Make sure assembly is centered beneath the doorway
Mark the mounting holes on the camper and drill
Remove steps from bracket and set aside
Attach the mounting bracket to the camper
-Secure in place with included lag screws
Hook stairs into mounting bracket "V" clamps and extend

I could not find a product specifically made for my application, but these steps were a very close fit. I little cutting here some drilling there and what do you know, steps 'custom made' for a 1999 Roadtrek 190P. Now anyone with mobility issues can enter the camper easily. You cannot see it in the picture, but there are blocks under the top step that are pinned to the campers step, it is a very solid connection and will not pull out accidentally. Also not visible there are commercial handicapped grab bars on both doors as well as on the left hand 'wall' of the bathroom. With the addition of these steps the camper is now easily accessible for my wife.334568

Review from a similar Aluminum Scissor Steps in RV and Camper Steps
Nicely made, I have fabricated many items including tilt bed trailers and I think this is well made, the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because they need to do do more research on different applications, this camper only had fiberglass and foam in the mount area because of the insulated basement, I through bolted it with a plate on the back for washers, and added self locking nuts. I included a picture of the camper in my home shop.445950

Thanks for the great communication. I did receive the product as
described. I actually used this product on my Tacoma truck. I have
parents that are old and they need stairs to get into my truck. I tried
folding plastic steps but didn't work that well. Not too sturdy. I
finally found your product that I thought would work for my use. I
thought I needed the different types of mounting bracket, but didn't
need it. I just riveted the top arm hinge and rested the top of stair
arm on the truck side runners. I also riveted a neoprene pad on the
bottom leg to help stabilize the bottom from slipping. It works great
for what I needed it to do. Here are some pictures. 122537
How did this set of stairs fold up and store? On this truck it looks like they would be sticking out in folded position, if the door was closed.I need this for my Class C RV. Its not very high off the ground and 1 or 2 steps should do it. I have to measure it when I get back home. My assumption is that they would fold up and store underneath the RV like the present dented steel ones are storing or stored before they dented up.Please add some measurements of height when folded up.Thanks!

This particular set does not permanently hang underneath the RV. There is a bracket that attaches to the frame of the RV. When you arrive at the campsite, you pull out the stairs, unfold and set them into the bracket. When it's time to go, you remove the steps, fold them up and store them in the RV. The steps that stay underneath are Pull-Out and Electric Steps. I have added links to these categories below.

I have an enclosed patio with a raised (~23") deck built on a concrete slab. Occasionally I need to access the patio via the fence gate. These steps provide an excellent solution for outside patio entry as they can be easily removed and installed when required. They do not encroach on the patio area. They can be stored in the garage for winter. They are light weight but strong. 672916
After a year of use I continue to enjoy the use of the stairs. Its been a great solution to my patio situation.

Review from a similar Aluminum Scissor Steps in RV and Camper Steps
I would give these steps 10 Stars if I could. They have really saved my knees over my previous step system. I also really like the wider and deeper steps. When I was younger I had the smaller brophy steps. But my older knees really like the bigger steps now, and for me the extra cost was really worth it.972881

My husband built a truck camper, lighter than commercial, to serve our back road adventures. He considered several options for steps and came upon your scissor steps! He ordered, they arrived in just a few days and was pleased with the ease of attaching, folding and sturdiness of the steps. Thank you for a great product.1062230
I went to the warehouse and took a measurement of the Brophy Camper Scissor Steps, part # AS05 for you.
The distance form the top mounting bracket to the front of the lowest step is 39-1/4 inches. The distance form the frame below the lowest step is 40-1/8 inches. I have attached a photo of the steps with the dimensions noted. view full answer...
I am sorry but at this time we do not carry a set of folding stairs that would mount to a trailer 50 inches high. The weight capacity of the stair you have selected is 250 lbs. We ship to Ontario Canada with no problems. view full answer...
I went out into our warehouse and grabbed a Aluminum Scissor Steps # AS05 to measure and found that they are 17-3/4 inches tall by 18-1/4 inches wide and 10 inches deep.
I attached a picture that has all of the dimensions shown. view full answer...
For the best option for Brophy scissor steps, I recommend the Brophy Camper Scissor Steps - 5 Steps - Aluminum # AS25. These steps are made for entry heights that range from 40 - 48 inches tall and will work great with your current 40-1/2 inch tall height.
However, another thing that you need to know is your entry way width. With the # AS25, this is made for entryways that will be able to accommodate a bracket width of 24" inches. We do offer steps with 18-1/4 inch wide brackets. That... view full answer...
The Brophy Camper Scissor Steps for truck campers, # AS04, are intended for an entry height of 31" to 40". If your camper door sets within that 31-40' range then yes this will fit your rig. Please see attached image for measuring points and chart. view full answer...
The Brophy # AS05 Aluminum Scissor Steps you mentioned can be used for heights between 40-48 inches. Since your 44 inch height is right in the middle of that range, the steps would work great for you. If the steps were at a 90 degree angle to the area you are wanting the steps to access, you'll need some type of platform at the top of the steps. The steps have a 250 lb capacity.
For safety, I'd also recommend a hand rail like # AHR5. view full answer...
If you are asking about the height adjustment range compared to your measurement of 39-1/2 inches then yes, the Brophy Camper Scissor Steps # AS05 would definitely be the better option. It is best to have stairs that can extend a little bit past what the height that you measured to account for uneven terrain.
If you would like the best option then what I recommend is the TorkLift GlowStep Stow N' Go Scissor Steps # TLA7845. The landing gear feet on this step choice really help to keep... view full answer...
The Brophy Camper Scissor Steps # AS05 that you referenced have a height of 40" - 48" when they are expanded which would be a little too much for your application. Instead, I recommend going with the Brophy Camper Scissor Steps # AS24 which have a height of 31" - 39" when expanded, plus it features the non-slip tread.
We have a bracket for a tailgate # TSSB or an RV # AS2002 if you need one as well as a handrail # AHR4 to assist going up and down the stairs. view full answer...
The height measurement on the item you selected is 24 to 30 inches to the mounting bracket. As long as the distance from the area the stairs are to be mounted straight down to the ground is within this 6 inch range the stairs will work nicely. We have other sizes of steps (see links below) if this size is not correct for you. I have posted links to hand rails for the adjustable steps also. If I can be of further assistance let me know. view full answer...
The 2-step # RHS2 is the only multi-step hitch mounted steps that I have seen. You might want to look at steps # TLA7806. You can attach these steps to the threshold and they will reach all the way to the ground when pulled out. They also feature glowing parts on each step so they are more visible at night. I have linked the installation instructions to the right for you.
We also have # AS25 and # AS05 that can reach 48 inches. view full answer...
Aluminum Scissor Steps # AS25 measure up to 48 inches tall and would be the best option for you. They have a 250 pound capacity. The other option is # AS05 which also can extend as much as 48 inches. To add a hand rail, if needed, use # AHR5. view full answer...
Torklift steps are going to be just a bit wider than your desired 20" wide mounting dimension at 21-1/2", and the Brophy steps will be just a bit under at 18-1/4". Both the TorkLift GlowStep Stow N' Go Scissor Steps # TLA7845 and the Brophy Camper Scissor Steps # AS05 will fit your 43" entry height and are removable.
Of the two the TorkLift steps are the more stable option. They include landing feet for more ground stability and are adjustable to fit uneven terrain. These steps include... view full answer...
