Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all of the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, and it also gives you the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.
Selecting a Weight Distribution System
The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your towing setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.
To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.
2 Types of Sway Control
The TrackPro features 2 different sway control technologies to provide the best towing experience possible.
Positive Caster Keeps Trailer Centered
The TrackPro is built with a positive caster angle - pointed toward the rear of your trailer - to help stop sway before it even starts. This is the same technology that vehicles use to stay centered on the road. When you turn a corner in your car and let go of the steering wheel, the wheel automatically corrects itself and returns to center. This is caster taking over. Likewise, the TrackPro features a positive caster angle built into the hitch. Working in tandem with the tapered spring bars to create a self-centering force, this caster angle helps to keep your trailer consistently centered behind your tow vehicle, even during high winds and sharp turns, resulting in a smoother towing experience.
Steel-on-Steel Friction Corrects Sway
While this system does its best to keep your trailer in line, the TrackPro is also able to correct sway should it occur. Unlike many traditional weight distribution systems with chain-style setups, the TrackPro uses steel brackets to hold the ends of the spring bars, and therefore your trailer, in place. While chain-style setups do a good job with weight distribution alone, they aren't really designed to limit sway, so they typically allow a good amount of side-to-side play.
In addition to better holding the trailer in line, these brackets create friction with the spring bars to combat sway that might occur in heavy winds or following sudden maneuvers. When this type of sway happens, the tapered ends of the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. This friction limits the movement of the spring bar, which minimizes further side-to-side movement of the trailer. The steel-on-steel friction that occurs with the TrackPro's spring bars is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars that weigh multiple tons, so you know it'll be highly effective.
Fast, Easy Setup
Many weight distribution systems require you to manually adjust the pitch of the hitch head by stacking washers. This can be a tedious, trial-and-error process where you have to unhook your trailer, disassemble the head to add or remove washers to get the desired tilt, put it all back together, and then determine if you have the correct placement. If the pitch still isn't right, you have to do it all over again.
The TrackPro removes all of that hassle with an easy-to-use hitch head that has the required pitch already built into it. Whereas other systems require washers to help achieve the proper tension in the head, the positive caster angle built into the TrackPro ensures the proper pitch, so there's no need to manually adjust the tilt. The only adjustment that may be needed is the placement of the head on the shank. Move the head up or down along the weight distribution shank to achieve the proper rise or drop for your setup. No additional, fine-tune adjustment is needed.

I really wanted to like this weight distribution hitch. I did so much research and settled on the Blue Ox TrackPro to replace my Fastway hitch, which wasn't rated for the larger camper I'd just purchased. A year later, I wish I'd chosen a different hitch. Out of the box, one of the offset L bracket mounting plates was improperly threaded from manufacturing and would not accept the flange bolts. I used a tap set to re-tap the hole, which worked, but the bolts then fit sloppily, so etrailer was kind enough to have a new mounting plate shipped. That was a minor inconvenience, but it did affect the installation time, and my next trip. It's towed ok for this past year in terms of weight distribution and sway control, but I have three significant problems with this hitch. First, the mounting plates will not stay positioned at a 90 degree angle to the trailer frame, which puts the L brackets at a sharp angle, which means the spring bars cannot move flat across the L brackets as they're designed to do, reducing the friction needed for sway control. Second, the flange bolts are not held properly by the mounting brackets--even with regular checking and re-torqueing, the L brackets wiggle. Third, the L brackets must be made from a very soft material, as there are deep gouges worn in both. I don't mean scuffs, scratches, or wear that you would expect--I mean deep, deep gouges. This is after only one camping season (7 trips, roughly 3000 towing miles). For comparison's sake, the L brackets from my previous Fastway hitch have approximately ten percent of the wear, after four camping seasons, that these Blue Ok L brackets have after one season. I contacted Blue Ox about this, and provided pictures, and was told that this met their standard of normal performance, and that I should expect to replace these brackets regularly. Though price wasn't a big factor, the TrackPro was cheaper than some others that I reviewed at the time. I wish I'd spent more and gone with a better hitch.1391680

I was very pleased with the BLU87FR weight distribution hitch. Total set up of hitch and then pairing to tow vehicle took about 1.5 hours. Hitch did what it was designed to do keeping the trailer and tow vehicle level for the entire trip.1432387

Great - it performs well in greatly reducing sway from semi-trucks and high winds. Best to watch video on how to set up anti-sway system. It was useful to know to raise the hitch using jack lift to make it easy to use the pry tool to put sway bars onto the trailer.

Review from a similar TrackPro in Weight Distribution Hitch
I bought this in April '22 for our new trailer. The second day of our trip to Alaska, one of the Retaining Keys with the cotter pin fell off. It was while hooking up to our campsite that we saw it was gone and the spring bar bar had been free of mooring. Luckily we had a C Bolt and duck tape to hold the one sway bar without the retaining key and taped up the other to make sure it didn't fall off on the rest of our journey. When we called Blue Ox they sent two day to AK the two packages of the retaining key w/step. These turned out different than the ones that came on the TracPro and are thicker and shorter - I think these were suppose to come with the TracPro WD/Sway and should have been in the package when we got it. There is too much play between the sring bar and the L Bracket with the Retaining key that was in our order. Pictures for reference. If you order the Blue Ox TracPro, call make and sure you get the correct Retaining Keys with it, you should not have to buy them separately.1342865

Bought this to reduce rear sag in truck and you would think installing is pretty common sense but apparently it isn't. Instructions aren't very clear and since sad didn't go away at all, I'm guessing it isn't installed correctly. Instructions need to be MORE clear than they are otherwise you'll need to pay a professional to install it as I have no idea if it's correct or not.1295242
Please take a look at this attached video starting at the 11:08 mark to make sure you followed the same install instructions as the etrailer installers.
Review from a similar TrackPro in Weight Distribution Hitch
Hello, The weight distribution seems to work fine. We took our traveler trailer on 2 trips since purchasing the trailer hitch and all the accessories. The sway is just frightening. We have not had any real wind, this was in May and July of this year. But super scary, and when a tractor trailer passes us, even just one, forget it. We are towing with a big Ford Expition also. I would not recommend this model. It was expensive and we will have to figure out what we are going to replace it with. Gil1390251

Excessive sway may indicate that the trailer is improperly loaded. As a guideline, the tongue weight should be 10-15 percent of gross trailer weight. If it is not, redistribute the weight accordingly. If you encounter continuous sway or swaying that does not dissipate quickly, adjust the load. I however, do not know your trailer or weights so you may need a biggerstronger system. If you let me know what you are working with I can get you a better system.

These were easy to install on our 2021 Cherokee Wolf Pup trailer. The sway control is very good and the towing is now a very smooth safe ride. Backing is very easy. The only drawback is we have to raise the trailer tongue and truck pretty high with the jack to get them on easily. Lots of tension on the bars. Safety and smooth towing is why we purchased and for this i would recommend purchasing.1371680

This thing is amazing! I bought this to haul my 24’ car (toy) hauler behind my 03 Suburban which has coil springs instead of leaf springs. This hitch has made a world of difference. I honestly was shocked at the difference it made. It almost feels like I’m not hauling a trailer at all.1164331
Review from a similar TrackPro in Weight Distribution Hitch
Works well. It's my first time with a distribution hitch, so I've no basis for comparison. I tow a 7200# 30' trailer with a 2007 F-150 (full-timer). It took a few trips to the scales to get things right, since I'm very close to my weight limits. Product arrived without the receiver (damaged box). Etrailer was very quick to provide replacement.
On assembly, I discovered that it was sent with incorrect mounting plates. Blue Ox expedited a parts kit. Overall, it seems to work well. I still have to be careful with wind, or I get pushed around on the road. It's mostly a non-issue.
I've traveled about 5-6K miles, and there is some noticeable wear, scoring, and rust developing where the torsion bars meet the trailer. These parts should be easily replaceable, as long as they're still manufactured. You may want to consider spares once you confirm that you have the correct bars. The friction points can develop metal splinters.
The pivots started showing wear after a long stretch of bouncy highway in Iowa. It was within the 1st 1000 miles, so I'll count this as break-in. I just readjusted the mounting point on the trailer at an overnight stop. I haven't had to adjust it since. The slop in the bushings makes for a greasy mess.
Wear gloves and put a plastic bag over the receiver when you remove it, or you're going to get greasy. Also, be careful of how low the receiver hangs down. I've caught it twice in uneven parking lots. I'm leaving it long, since it helps protect the tongue jack.
It meets expectation. Etrailer and Blue Ox provided excellent customer service. I still took one star, since I was on a deadline with work, and my plans got pushed back two weeks because of this. It shouldn't have happened in the first place, but the customer service from both parties was fantastic.1266701

With a weight distribution system, you want the loaded tongue weight of your trailer to fall within the middle of the tongue weight range that the weight distribution bars are rated for. The bars that are on this weight distribution system BLU67FR are rated for tongue weights between 600 and 800 lbs. Since you say your trailer weight is 7200 lbs, it is possible that you may be overloading the bars. I would suggest that you measure the exact tongue weight with the trailer loaded. You can measure your exact tongue weight with part # 5780 Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale - 2,000-lb Capacity $167.90. If your tongue weight is between 800 to 1,000 lbs, I recommend to switch out the bars with part # BLU52FR Replacement 1,000-lb Spring Bars for Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution System - Qty 2 $169.15, which have a higher capacity. If your loaded tongue weight happens to be over 1,000 lbs, then you should use part # BLU32FR Replacement 1,300-lb Spring Bars for Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution System - Qty 2 $177.16.

Weight distribution system is just like any other ones I have used, (chains, etc.), paint wears off quckly on the bars and hitch. L Pins undersized and had to purchase larger pins from e-trailer since the original ones which came with the hitch were undersized.
Easy to install, simple to use and distribution/sway reduction is noticeable.1402426
Thanks for the picture of your spring bar hanger installed on your frame so that I can see what you mean. Yeah a spacer or shim is going to be what you would need since your frame height is between setting so that you can't get a flush fit to allow it to sit level like you need it to. You might find a welder or fabricator to weld on a spacer to the top or bottom of the frame where the bracket attaches so that it's permanently there. view full answer...

Great questions!
It is appropriate to use both an air bag kit and a weight distribution system (WDS), depending on the WDS. Most of them say in the instructions whether they are compatible or not and they will give instructions on how to set everything up - which usually entails leveling everything out with the air bags and then installing the WDS. There are sway control setups that exist outside of a WDS but since you can use both I recommend going that route.
