Quiet, Secure Ride
The 1" thick jaw on the Companion OEM is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.
In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.
Non-Binding Latch Handle
The dual jaw on the Companion OEM is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.
The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".
Installation of the B&W Companion OEM
To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you the cab clearance needed to execute turns while towing.
To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.
Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.
The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

Great experience! Called first to ensure the hitch I wanted was in stock due to shortages and delays in shipping from other companies. The associate I talked to was very helpful and ensured I was ordering the right hitch for my truck. I ordered it on a Monday morning and received two of the three boxes the following Monday. The last box arrived on Tuesday. Due to the parts being so heavy, there was some damage to the cardboard boxes but after a quick inspection, all parts were accounted for and free of damage. I installed everything on my truck by myself in about an hour. Only minor adjustments were needed to lock it down. Everything fit perfectly and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I'll try it out for the first time this weekend when I pick up my new 42' 5th wheel camper. The quality of the B&W Companion 25K is outstanding! Built rock solid. I highly recommend this hitch! Great product and even better service from etrailer.com! Only recommendation is that the instructions should include a list of required tools for the install. Would have saved me some time jumping in and out of the bed of my truck. Thanks again!
2016 Ram 3500 Dually (Laramie) Long Bed w/OEM Puck Setup B&W Companion 25K1219723
I am starting a Hot Shot trucking company and this 5th wheel will easily pull the trailer that I purchased. The 5th wheel looks great in the back of my truck. It was not to difficult install. The only reason for a 4 star rating is one the boxes looked like it came out of a trash compactor. The base was in that box and was all scratched up. I would buy from this company again in the future.1301186
Pros: Simple to operate (once installed). I like the way the locking arm engages when you back into the kingpin. Very little (or no) chucking. Due to heavy construction, provides a bit more confidence especially towing 20K. Cons: HEAVY (and for the Ram puck version) extra large base taking up even more truck bed. Top portion is relative easy for one person to install/remove. The bottom portion is a whole new ballgame. Definitely two man operation to install bottom. Locking levers never "engaged" in exactly the way described in the literature but after calling tech support, I'm OK with it. Would give 5 stars if it wasn't so dang big and heavy :(857805
Arrived on time, and installation went smoothly, for my 2021 Ram Bighorn 3500 Dually long bed and feels sturdy. Box was pretty neat up on arrival, but product was, just slightly scuffed. Overall satisfaction was as expected. Product feels solid and is heavy, which I don't see as a bad thing considering the price of the equipment it is designed to carry. Only minor gripe I have is the hole for the cotter pin on the crown nuts was almost unusable for the position I needed to tighten one of the corners in my truck Bed. Ended up only getting half the cotter pin back through the hole after adjustments were made.1296073
The shipper’s had issues with the box it wouldn’t fit on their conveyor belts the outside of the box was dinged up pretty good and the other two boxes were together but undamaged the frame took a few dings where it rattled around in the trailer to me.1317482
Everybody I've ever spoken to said B&W was the best and I believe it. With the help of a friend, this installation took an hour or so. I did open up one of the holes on a corner latch to accommodate a padlock in place of a locking pin. Otherwise very little adjustment was necessary on my 2019 Ram 2500. I set this one up 2"behind the axle and the second hole from the top. This setting worked out OK for my Montana HC 305RL749749
After a year of using this hitch, 5000 miles, I have to say I'm very pleased. The hitch has performed flawlessly. We've experienced no chucking while towing on various road surfaces. I keep the hitch mounted in the truck but I also have a bed cover which has helped maintain the hitch in near new condition. I expect to get several years of use with little to no problems. The hitch is easily disassembled for removal from the truck bed. With 2 people it can be removed and installed with a little bit of effort.919264

Still Performing Perfect! Another year and another 5000+ miles and the hitch has performed flawlessly. Seriously, no issues. I believe there are several more years if service left in this hitch.
I had ordered all three components together and assume they would be delivered as a complete set. I only received the hitch and riser plates with no base to mount them too. I contacted etrailer and the rep said it would be delivered in a couple of days. I found this to be surprising as you would have thought they would have been shipped all together. Also when i received the hitch it the powder coating was chipped on the top of the hitch. You would assume since you were paying for a high end hitch you would receive it in perfect condition. B&W prides then selves as a American made product but they don't take pride in their shipping as my hitch was damage during transport as the box and shipping cardboard was below my standards for shipping a 150lb hitch!1292675

So far it has been great! Being 65yrs old I was apprehensive about trying to assemble and load the hitch with just my wife to help. I remedied that by loading everything into the bed of my truck, including my tools and assembled it in place. Not being up to speed on RAMs puck system I did not know what to expect. I assembled the hitch, torqued it to spec and it dropped into place with out further adjustments or fanfare. I pull a 34' 5th wheel and don't even know it is back there. Hitching and unhitching is a breeze with very little learning curve. That says a lot since my learning curve more resembles a U-turn. Thank you B&W for a great hitch, thank you etrailers for a great deal.468153
We are very impressed with the B&W hitch. My wife and I both hitch and unhitch without any problems. Ill say it again. Thanks B&W for a great hitch and thanks etrailer for a great deal.
This is the ideal hitch for my Ram 2500 MegaCab. The MegaCab does not allow for a long bed and my RamBox setup causes issues with traditional fifth wheel setups so I needed to go with the Reese Sidewinder but was looking for the ideal hitch set up for my factory prep kit. This heavy duty hitch is the perfect combination and installs easily. Most importantly when used in conjunction with the Sidewinder I can make incredibly tight turns with plenty of room to spare.
Just installed my 5th wheel. (mechanically inclined)
30 minutes and done. Whoever thought of the puck system in the newer trucks is a genius! BW made this bad boy heavy duty. Was all I could do to lift frame in place. Put in place loosened all bolts and it fit in place like a glove. Torqued bolts and cannot wait to get my new toyhauler hitched up!!695298
Hitch works as described. Very well built. My only issue is it is heavy and hard to install/ remove from truck. Etrailer once again proved to be the very place to go for any trailer or hitch needs1340348

2017 Dodge Ram Pickup
Love it. I took it out of the box, walked it over to my truck, and set into the openings in my truck bed and turned the handles and put pins in and I didn't even have to adjust it it was perfectly tight. Put the two pieces on to hold the top piece and added a little Grease and it was ready to go. I have a 2017 Ram 3500 4 X4 long bed with airbags and mounted it forward and up all the way. I'm pulling an 18000 pound fifth wheel with flex-air king pin and it rides perfectly. PERFECTLY. I'M very happy with the quality of build and ease of use.421747
Pulled through Tallahassee, Birmingham, Memphis, Little Rock, Shreveport, Mobile and Monticello and it is a comfortable, well-built, easy to use hitch. Etrailer also gets my recommendations regularly.
We were hesitant to order a 5th wheel hitch on-line, but it arrived in excellent condition with very easy and clear instructions. My husband and I were able to assemble it quickly. The only issue we had, was trying to figure out the height to use and if we should put it over the axle or in front..1068907
I have only towed with the hitch once with my 2019 Ram 3500 but it was awesome. There was no rattling or bucking whatsoever. Installation was straightforward and I’m looking forward to the ease of taking the hitch out when I don’t need it. I am very pleased with this hitch. 802212
After a year of owning this hitch I continued to be very pleased with it. The ease of hitching up to my 5th wheel is great, and it is very quiet while towing. The hitch is no lightweight but the ability to remove the head makes removing and loading into the truck much easier. I highly recommend this hitch for anyone wanting a quality hitch for their trailer.
I have a B & W hitch in my 2014 GMC and it worked great, so when I bought my new RAM with towing prep, I bought this one. Works outstandingly. Easy to hitch and unhitch. Great hitch.1337823

2015 Ram 3500
Was tired of the movement and clunking with my old hitch between the hich and rails and the kingpin and locking jaws.
This hitch completely does away with all the noise. The absolute best 5th wheel hitch I have even owned. A great made in America product. Thououghly impressed. 227955
This is perfect for the Ram puck system. Very easy to install and remove with 2 people or I use my tractor front forks. Very stable, pulls great with very little movement felt.1336801
by: Donald05/01/2022
This was a real pleasure to install. I made one small adjustment to the one mount and in the end probably didn't need to. I set mine on center axle at the lowest setting for my rig in a RAM 3500 dually pulling a 32ft forest River Wlidcat. For what its worth the hardest part for me was installing the "leveling" spring on the head to keep it tilted back. I would recommend this to anyone with the RAM factory fifth wheel system.1292884

Great Hitch and Great Delivery by etrai ler.com!1094290
Big and heavy . Took 4 of us to install it. Think I got the side support placement right. Will have to wait till I hook up too see.
One complaint and the mfg. should do something about it. The handle can be reached from the side but not the locking pin. I'm going to have to figure out a way to lock it as at my age It is now a problem. Will come up with something that can be done from the side.229735
This is a really great hitch, and etrailer was able to get it to me for less money than any other seller.
I also find that etrailer has more of the exterior lights and things that will fit my 2006 toy hauler.
I will be an etrailer customer as long as I own that trailer.956434

It has been a year of not worrying about my hitch, so a better year. I pull a 39 ft toy hauler weighing max of around 17,000 lbs and my Ram 3500 will pull up to 30,000 lbs so I feel pretty secure knowing if there is a problem it will likely be operator error. Love etrailer and B&W hitches.
I have used the B & W Companion hitch this past year for about 2500 miles of towing. It is definitely the best hitch I have had. The hitch is very quiet with no bucking at all, it is easy to hitch and unhitch the trailer. I would definitely recommend this hitch to anyone who is looking for a quiet and easy to use hitch.928226

In the past year we have used the hitch for about 12000 miles. It is still the best hitch we have owned, very quite and handles the bumps and bucking very well. There were a few bridge joints where I thought we might lose the damn trailer but it worked perfectly. We expect to put many more miles on it this year.
On the B&W 5th wheel trailer hitch # BWRVK3600 for Ram trucks that have the OEM prep package, the jaw release handle will not extend further back that the forward pucks in the truck bed.
The head is attached to supports that can be positioned in such a way as to increase the distance between the head and the back of the truck cab and is further illustrated in the instructions I have linked for you. This adjustment is designed to give you more clearance when towing but would also work... view full answer...
As you know, the B&W 5th wheel trailer hitch # BWRVK3600 fits directly into the puck system on your 2014 Ram 3500. The height is adjustable from 17 to 19 inches like you said but you can also adjust the hitch front to back.
Since your Ram is a long bed I would configure the hitch so that the center of the hitch jaws are centered over the rear axle. This location will ensure you get the maximum capacity of the rear axle. I have included a link to the installation details for you that covers,... view full answer...
A 5th wheel hitch like the B&W Companion # BWRVK3600 that has a fully-articulating head assembly will tend to lean to one side or the other when it is not under the load of the trailer's pin weight. This is normal. In contrast, an entry-level hitch's head unit may not be quite as flexible and might tend to remain in a fixed position even when unloaded. view full answer...
There is some truth in what you've read, but it depends on which Companion setup you read about. The only B&W Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch that can be used with the Reese Revolution/Sidewinder is the # BWRVK3600 that fits into the 4 recessed pucks in the truck bed provided by the factory installed tow/prep package.
The Companion model that mounts using a single connection point provided by the B&W Turnover Ball Gooseneck Hitch CANNOT be used with a Revolution/Sidewinder because the amount... view full answer...
It is perfectly normal for a 5th wheel hitch head to tip left or right when it is not coupled to the trailer's king pin. Your B&W Companion hitch # BWRVK3600 has a fully-articulated pivoting head that will provide easier hitching thanks to its range of motion; this range of motion also allows the head to lean to one side when not held up by the king pin. view full answer...
The B and W Companion hitch part # BWRVK3600 weighs in at 216 lbs. What most people do is remove the head of the hitch before removing/installing the base of the hitch since that will lighten things up a bit.

The best trucks for towing 5th wheel trailers are long bed, 1-ton diesels, and having a dually is definitely a benefit.
First, long beds: Long bed trucks do not have the clearance problems that short bed trucks have. On a short bed truck you would need to use a slider hitch or a Sidewinder pin box in order to be able to make 90 degree turns without the truck and trailer hitting each other. A slider or Sider adds extra expenses.
1-Tons: 1-ton trucks are more capable and ideal for heavy... view full answer...
The B&W Companion Hitch # BWRVK3600 is a great hitch and is compatible with your Reese Revolution Pin Box. I recommend this hitch for you as it can fit on your 2015 Dodge Ram 2500 with a factory tow kit and it is made from gray powder coated steel which is corrosion resistant.
The Reese Revolution Pin Box gives you the turning clearance you need so your fifth wheel trailer does not hit the cab of your truck when towing with a short bed truck. You will not be able to use a sliding hitch... view full answer...
The best trucks for heavy duty towing are going to be 1-ton trucks like a Ford F-350, Chevy Silverado 3500 or Ram 3500. A long bed is best because short bed trucks will require additional equipment to be able to tow the trailer without clearance problems when turning. As far as the motor I recommend one with a diesel motor because they have more torque across the RPM spectrum and they last a very long time.
Generally speaking the newer the truck the higher its towing capacity will be.... view full answer...
For your 2016 RAM 3500 the B and W Companion part # BWRVK3600 will fit the rail kit of your truck and be a great option. Many in the RV community refer to this as the nicest fifth wheel hitch around so I know it will work well for you.
There wouldn't be much of a height difference between your 2010 Ram 3500 and the 2016. The 4WD models of the 3500 series trucks aren't made any taller than the 2WD ones. Both of your trucks are set up for towing and they wouldn't make one taller as that... view full answer...
For your 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 With the 8 ft bed and the factory tow package in place, we have a few fifth wheel hitches, but we do not offer a 30,000 lb hitch.
The fifth wheel hitch with the highest weight capacity we offer is the B&W Companion, part # BWRVK3600. This is a 25,000 lb hitch that has dual jaws, and has a hitch height of 17-1/2 to 19-1/2 inches. This hitch has a very simple installation by just dropping into the pucks installed in the bed of your truck.

For any hitch application you will want the centerline of the hitch to be centered over the rear axle or up to a few inches forward of the rear axle. The same goes for the B&W Companion hitch # BWRVK3600 for your 2014 Ram 3500 with OEM prep package.
On any 5th wheel/gooseneck hitch and vehicle the center of the hitch should not be behind the rear axle. There is limited capacity behind the rear axle and it can cause the front of the truck to ride high when a trailer is connected. That would... view full answer...
This is a great question that we just recently got to the bottom of. The B and W companion hitches that normally install in a gooseneck hitch unlike the part # BWRVK3600 are not to be used with Sidewinders as there is only one attachment point. The # BWRVK3600 uses 4 attachment points as it is designed to fit the Ram under-bed hitch prep package so it will work with Sidewinders without the use of additional hardware that could void the warranty.
Sidewinders are pin box specific so you... view full answer...
The problem with the Ram Box is that is that it puts the rails of the bed too close together and it causes interference with the pin box of the trailer around corners.
We have heard several customers say that with a Sidewinder pin box they were able to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a truck with a Ram Box. Sidewinders move the pivot point higher so the Ram Box wouldn't interfere.
The only problem is that Sidewinder hasn't officially said that you can use a Sidewinder with a truck with... view full answer...
When it comes to towing a large heavy 5th wheel such as a 38-foot Pinnacle weighing close to 20K-lbs, you'll definitely want the torque and "grunt" of a 1-ton diesel truck. Diesels will also last a lot longer than gasoline engines if used under these heavy towing conditions. If you like to keep your trucks a good long time this is surely the way to go. One of my 5th wheeling co-workers swears by the 1-ton Ram diesels.
Dual rear wheels (DRW) trucks will indeed typically have better performance... view full answer...
As far as transmissions go it all depends on what you want. An automatic is one less thing to have to think about while you are towing. Plus it is generally smother when shifting unless you are really good at driving a stick while towing. But with a manual, if something were to happen to the transmission the repair costs are generally less than an automatic.
As far as motor/transmission pairing the Allison transmissions are popular, if you prefer a Chevy/GMC. All of the diesel motors... view full answer...
The B and W Companion part # BWRVK3600 will fit the factory rail kit you have installed in your 2015 Ram 3500. Since you have a short bed truck you are going to also need to install a Sidewinder pin box on your trailer to allow you to make tight turns.
You will need to remove the pin box of the trailer and replace it with a Sidewinder pin box. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one.
