Quiet, Secure Ride
The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.
In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.
Non-Binding Latch Handle
The dual jaw on the Companion is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.
The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".
Built-In Slider
Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.
The slider that is built into the base of the Companion allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.
To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you some additional cab clearance.
To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.
Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.
The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

Specially designed to attach to the receivers in your factory 5th-wheel towing prep package, the slider base on this hitch helps eliminate clearance concerns during slow-speed turns. Dual-jaw hitch removes without a trace for full bed access. The hitch itself is great. Mounting in the stock pucks on my Ram 3500 was very simple. The king pin latch is positive when closed and easy to operate. The only drawback is the slider latch. It came undone once and slid back while I was maneuvering. I solved this by using a heavy duty rubber bungee strap to hold it in the locked position. I would recommend this to anyone with a short box truck.
Nice 5th wheel hitch. Fits into to the new puck system for pickups. The appearance is nice and clean, and very easy to use. No question if the king pin is captured or not as you get a clean view of it and the jaws cover the whole pin. The only downfall is the weight but then it is a 20K lbs. slider. etrailer was very helpful in assuring that the hitch was shipped and delivered ASP.
The entire ordering process was great. I had a couple questions so I called and got to speak to Melissa. She helped me select the right hitch for my truck and RV, and simplified the process. I ordered on a Saturday afternoon and it was delivered freight the following Tuesday (3 days). The install video on the website was spot on and with the help of a friend to lift it, we got the hitch installed in my truck in about 30 minutes. The hitch itself is very well made, easy to use and so far works perfectly.
Easy user friendly website for purchasing B&W Companion hitch. Excellent installation video made install a breeze.
I had a little difficulty with the spring because I have a short bed truck, had to mount the risers in a different position than the instructions addressed, but I finally figured it out.
package arrived on time in good condition. already used it to pull a 35ft. camper everything worked great. well built and very heavy, easy to assemble, also purchased a B&W lifting device and use a chain hoist to remove it from my truck
Good hitch. Solid. Very heavy so have to use an electric winch to remove/install in the bed. Have not HAD to use the slide yet. 2022 RAM 2500, 6 ft 5 inch bed.
After one year and around 7000 miles everything is as advertised. We can trust our B&W hitch.
Exactly what I expected. Slider is far better than the previous Reese hitch that it was replacing. Easy installation with the help of one other person to lift into my truck bed.
No more rattling noises when hauling my fifth wheel
I am very pleased with this hitch, it fit into the prepped bed of my 2016, 2500 Ram perfectly. This is one heavy duty hitch, made very well. The people at B&W definitely know how to make a hitch. It is heavy (weight wise) but I use a overhead winch to lift in and out of my truck bed, works great. I wanted the best and with this hitch I got it.

Still works great after 13,000 miles towing with this hitch over varied roads. Would buy again if need.
Zero adjustments needed to the pilot assembly, base aligned perfectly and dropped right in. Made minor tension adjustments to 2 latch cams with castle nut. Easy assembly, slider moves easily with just hand pressure. Great product! Looking forward to pulling our 36’ fifth wheel with the new hitch.

Fifth wheel hitch I purchased a year ago is working fine. Still no slack in jaws, hook up and unhook is a breeze. Highly recommend to anyone looking to buy a fifth wheel hitch.
Great hitch ! Locks up securely and easily slides like it is supposed to. Never a question if it is attached. Easily adjustable for height.
I bought the hitch for a new truck before I purchased a trailer. It moves slightly (slides forward then clicks slightly when pulling away from an intersection). B&W sent me some thin rubber washers which helped for a while. Turns out the trailer I bought doesn't require a sliding hitch, so I wish that I hadn't bought the slider.
Everything works great. This thing is heavy and hard putting in and out of the truck when I need to use the whole bed. The factory puck system is difficult to engage when locking it it but if you don't have to remove it alot you can deal with it.
I just installed the hitch and haven't pulled anything with it yet. The build quality is excellent, and the hitch base fit into the OEM pucks in my pickup perfectly. I had the delivery company load the skid into the back of my pickup, so I was able to install the hitch base by myself, with the aid of a rolling floor jack to position it over the pucks.
So far I'm very happy with the hitch. Looking forward to getting it under the travel trailer!
Great hitch but buy from a different supplier. After several weeks of delays and needing to meet a departure deadline etrailer recommended I find the hitch elsewhere. I did. And after calling to cancel they said it now shipped. I was told to refuse the shipment but they still charged me [XX] for return freight
Great hitch. Very high quality and heavy duty. I pull a 35 ft Jayco fifth wheel and have had no problems with it so far. I would purchase a B&W product again no question.
Easy to install if you are comfortable drilling holes into your metal bed. Is just 1 hole, 2 inches. Plug and play. Haven't connected trailer but i have no reason to think it won't work. In bed 5th wheel electrical connector. Installed on a 2018 ram 2500, short bed. 5th wheel hitch, is amazingly sturdy. Love it, can't wait to tow with it
Great product!! Hooked up as said on ur website!!i like the solidness of the product

Well after a year of using the hitch and at least 100 hookups abd unhooks the hitch is as solid as the first day!! I really like the easy hookups abd pulling my 5th wheel has been great. This hitch will not let u down. I really like it super product!!
This hitch completely destroyed our tailgate. I thought we did something wrong but I didn't. I was told that either the tailgate needs to be down or off or i need a fifth wheel tailgate. I thought I was buying the best hitch but it cost me a new tailgate. I will never recommend this product to anyone.

It sounds like you may have a short bed truck since you are using the slider to avoid damage to the trucks cab. It is also important to make sure you have clearance for the tailgate because Parts of the trailer may strike the tailgate when sliding the companion rearward. You want at least 6 inches between the trailer overhang and the tailgate. Otherwise you can tow with the tailgate off or use a 5th wheel tailgate like part # TR-03.
Brian B provided excellent customer service. etrailer does it again! Shipped faster than I thought. IMO B&W is the best hitches made.
Except for being heavy this hitch couldn’t be easier to install! I needed help getting the base into the truck. So far I’ve only pulled our trailer about 60 miles. It was very very smooth, no chucking, easy to hook and unhook! Looking forward to years of reliable use.
Item looks like advertised and was packaged properly. My main complaint is that I got a call from the shipper the evening before delivery and was told that they had a pallet that weighed 350# and the shipper did not request or authorize “lift gate” service and wanted to know how I was going to get this skid off their truck. Luckily I had a neighbor that has a tractor with forks that attach to the bucket so I managed. The thing that was the pisser is the truck had a lift gate on it when it arrived, but there was no indication that it was going to be used. $XXXX spent and left scrambling the night before to finalize the shipping process
Easy to use and quality built. Quinn was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Elk hunt was memory of a lifetime!
Very well made and easy to use. This hitch was recommended by a friend… best advice I could have received.

The hitch continues to function without issue. Nice clean design and shows little if any wear at all. I would strongly recommend this hitch.
