Easy Hookup with Long, Self-Aligning Arms

Blue Ox Ascent Self-Aligning Arms

The Ascent's convenient, self-centering arms help to make hookup a snap. Older and more economical tow bars have rigid arms that are essentially locked in place so you have to drive your towed vehicle into the exact position necessary for hookup. But with the Ascent, you can connect from the approximate towing position quickly and easily. Once you have connected the tow bar to your vehicle's base plates, simply drive your RV forward until the tow bar arms fully extend and lock in place. Before hitting the road, be sure to check that the arms are properly latched to avoid damage to your towing setup.

The Ascent's arms are also longer than the arms on the average tow bar. As a result, they provide an improved turning radius, making it easy to maneuver around obstacles and execute sharp turns.

Non-Binding for Simple Disconnect

Blue Ox Ascent Non-Binding Tow Arms

Being unable to unhook your car because of a bind in the tow bar is really frustrating. And the tight spots and uneven terrain at some campsites can put your tow bar into a bind, even if you're careful.

Fortunately, Blue Ox has defeated the age-old problem of binding by creating a tow bar that is just as easy to release as it is to hook up. Simply press down the handles on the tow bar arms until the internal latch disengages. By releasing some of the static pressure from the tow bar, you can move the arms just enough to make disconnecting your car a snap, even if it's not perfectly lined up with your RV.

Sturdy, Dependable Triple-Lug Connection

Blue Ox Ascent Triple-Lug Connection

The Blue Ox base plates on your vehicle are equipped with two tabs each that connect to the brackets on the ends of these tow bar arms. The triple-lug design of the Ascent tow bar creates a tight, stable connection by surrounding both base plate lugs. The result is a sturdy, reinforced connection that is strong and rigid for a safe, dependable towing experience.

Hooking up the Ascent to your base plates is as simple as it is secure. Just line up the triple-lug end of the tow bar arm with the base plate so that the center lug is positioned between the two tabs of the base plate. Then insert the 1/2" keeper pin through all of the lugs and secure it with the included quick pin.

Heavy-Duty, Vinyl-Coated Safety Cables Included

Blue Ox Ascent Safety Cables

The vinyl-coated safety cables, which have a 7,500-lb weight rating, provide added protection should the tow bar ever disconnect during towing. Steel hooks connect each cable to your towed vehicle's base plates and to your motorhome's trailer hitch.

Simple Storage

Blue Ox Ascent Easy Storage

The Ascent can be easily stored on your RV when it's not in use. Once the arms are disconnected from the base plate, just fold them together so they are side by side. Then swing the arms toward your RV, sliding the integrated pin into the bracket located on the shank of the tow bar to secure it in place. Finally, push the arms down so they are parallel with your RV's bumper.

Guide to Flat Towing

Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.

There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.

Towing Basics

The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

The Blue Ox tow bar is great. I had to replace my old tow bar when I forgot to lock a pin and broke it pulling out of a campground. Not only did etrailer have one in stock they overnighted the new one to me in Big Bend National Park Texas. Thanks etrailer for your excellent service and complete customer satisfaction.

by:

Perfect Fit. I watched the video's that etrailer provides and decided to take on the install myself. Everything from the base plates, diode wiring kit, drop receiver and Blue Ox Tow bar went just as the video's showed.
We are very happy with the service and parts etrailer.com has provided us for our 2022 Ford Ranger.

Outstanding towbar. Nicely finished and works great - easy hookup - highly recommend

Still great one year later - very pleased with this

I think this tow bar will work so much better than my Falcon 2…quite a bit lighter…20 lbs….which takes the backache out of it for me! Looking forward to hitting the road!

by:

Although I haven’t used tow bar yet I know it will just be great. Having had 2 others which I sold with motorhomes which preformed well. I am anxious to see how easy to disconnect with no binding.

by:

Free shipping is not what you think. Thy say you will receive it by (on date when ordering it) but after ordering it comes up with another date. Had to call customer service to cancel order and payed $XX dollars extra to reorder same product with express shipping. Spoke with CS that I needed product by certain date and still came in 2 days later. Free shipping you are on the back of the line unless you pay extra. But if I would of waited for free shipping it would of been in around the same time. I am a full time RVer and other tow bar was damaged and needed new one before leaving campground (frustrating)

by:

We haven't tried it yet, but it's a lot lighter than our old blue ox tow bar.
Hope to us it this spring.

by:

Excellent product. Easy to use and depe ndable.

by:

Exactly as ordered. Order got lost in handling but call to customer service rep got it restarted a week later.

by:

This is my third vehicle that I have set up for towing. Tow bar quality and finish is very good. I like the aluminum option.

by:

This is my second Blue Ox tow bar and I used the first one for over 10 years and 50K plus miles. This ascent bar is easy to install and remove. I feel very safe going down the road using this bar while towing my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

by:

As always, service was exceptional, shipping fast and help videos spectacular!

Nice tow bar

by:

Great experience with etrailer and their awesome customer service! After ordering the incorrect receiver size for my MH based on bad online specs (my fault) Nicole in Customer Service issued me the return labels and shipped the correct one in ASAP fashion. I even got their discounted shipping on 42 lbs which saved me a bunch. I had the new one in hand before I even shipped the other back!! Thanks again Nicole. I’ll definitely do business with etrailer again.

by:

Great customer service at great prices for the highest quality parts! Can't ask for more than that. All of my current and future towing needs will be through eTrailer. Thanks for the great service!

Great product and as usual, great service from etrailer. Thank you, Jim Buelow

by:

Easy installation and operation.

by:

My first time dealing with etrailer. My business is industrial distribution and the backbone are the people we have in customer service. Lazer and Sarah are awesome. I would love to have a whole department of those two. I bought a product at a discount because the box was damaged. It arrived on time and product had no damage whatsoever ever. Under promised but over delivered. Very happy customer.

Worked great pulling my 5,000 lb Jeep to Moab from north of Denver

  • Why Does My Blue Ox Ascent Tow Bar Need To Be Level
The reason for this comes down to safety and the additional pressures that would be exerted on the components when your Blue Ox Ascent # BX4370 tow bar is not level. The additional force that is put on these components ultimately makes it more likely that there is a catastrophic malfunction while towing your vehicle. I'll also add that while you may not see much binding currently since you're on a flat surface, it's more likely to happen over time with maneuvering around corners and up...

  • Blue Ox Ascent Tow Bar Measurements Retracted and Extended
The Blue Ox Ascent Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch - 7,500 lbs # BX4370 has arms 2 inches longer than most. I reached out to my tech contact who said when the legs are in it is 44” from receiver pin to holes on triple lug. When fully extended 54”. This is with the legs closed together. That distance will be shorter when the legs are spread and attached to a baseplate because expanding will created an angle to reduce the distance between connection points without changing the arm length.

  • Which Blue Ox Tow Bar for a GMC Yukon?
The Blue Ox Ascent Non-Binding Tow Bar, # BX4370, has a 7,500 lbs. rating that meets the need for your vehicle. That it is constructed of aluminum, instead of steel is not an obstacle to its quality and durability. This is a great option for a larger SUV and will match to Blue Ox Base Plates for your GMC Yukon. I like this tow bar because of its non-binding latch design and self-aligning feature. The main difference between the Blue Ox Acclaim Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX4330 and the Blue Ox Ascent Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX4370 besides the weight capacities is the mounting styles. The Acclaim is designed to mount to a hitch ball whereas the Ascent will mount directly into the receiver of your motorhome's trailer hitch. Typically, manufacturers recommend only using 80-85% of the total capacity, which would put you over by 75lbs. While the Blue Ox Alpha 2 Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX7380 can technically be used for your Gladiator, out of an abundance of caution, I recommend sizing up to the Blue Ox Ascent Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX4370 to ensure you stay under 85% capacity and have that 15%+ buffer zone.
