Adjustable, Foldable Arms
The Adventurer can be used with almost any smaller vehicles. Because the arms are adjustable, ranging from 16" to 34" wide, this tow bar can match the base plate width on almost any vehicle within the given capacity. To maneuver the arms, simply loosen the hex bolts that attach them to the coupler and move them closer or farther apart until you achieve the desired spread.
When the Adventurer is not in use, the arms can be folded together to save space while you store it in your garage or RV.
Single-Lug Connection
The Blue Ox base plates on your vehicle are equipped with two tabs each that connect to the brackets on the ends of these tow bar arms. The Adventurer tow bar features Blue Ox's traditional single-lug for quick and easy hookup. Just insert the lugged end of the tow bar arm into the base plate, between its two tabs. Then insert the 1/2" keeper pin through the lug and tabs and secure it with the included quick pin.
Guide to Flat Towing
Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.
There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.
The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

Very happy with this purchase. I understand this is more of the lower priced Blue Ox tow bars, but it's well built compared to others I've seen in the same price range.1306986

There is not a lot of information on the internet about pulling this kind of VW. I did my homework and this works GREAT when pulling a standard transmission with key left in "ON" position. etrailer has a lot of variety to offer for different needs.
This is the lower priced, plain Jane, no frills, less moving parts for something to go wrong - exactly what I was looking for tow bar. With little work it folds up for storage easily. Installation on our '98 diesel VW was clean and easy without incident (I do all my own modifications when needed. There is no rattling loose fit in tight corners or straight a ways. We don't even know we are pulling anything behind our '68 Dodge Travco B210 (modified with 5.9 Cummins)756485
A very well made product, though way stronger than needed for a Smart Car, though it all went together problem free. It's barely visible on the vehicle which is great, as many are so ugly.1039692
However I am quite pleased with what I got and it was easily installed.1290808

I purchased this tow bar to use with a Blue Ox base plate for my
1999 Mazda Miata. It is a very simple arrangement, with the 2 arms able to fold down to a smaller and more easily stored unit, but does not slide fore and aft as the more expensive tow bars do. As such, it takes a bit more manouvering of the towed vehicle to get it all lined up with the ball hitch. Not a problem for me, as the Miata is very light and easily pushed back and forth. Others with heavier vehicles may have more of an issue.
The quality of the tow bar is excellent. Price and delivery were also excellent. This is a great choice for a budget level tow bar.221248

Good product. Did everything I needed it to do. Used it to tow my Jeep. Super easy to hook up to blue ox baseplate. I could barely even notice it back there.. pulled it with my F150. No problems turning. Kept the Jeep under control, even on the Oregon Coast. Another quality product from blue ox. etrailer did a great job helping me out. Customer service was excellent and videos were helpful covering the entire scope of setup and installation. Thank.467144

Received my tow bar in excellent condition , amazing packaging . I was a little surprised that it required adjustment prior to use . My jeep already had a Blue Ox base plate installed so it was simple to slide the bar into the adapters . Much less complicated that my old bar . The only disadvantage is there is no way to keep the bar in an upright position . Looking forward to our first trip with it . 368937

I bought this Blue Ox 5000lbs capacity tow bar because my Subaru Crosstrek only weighs 3100lbs and maybe 3300lbs while fully loaded with gear. I also wanted a simple tow bar that didn't break the bank. This item arrived in less than two days. The Tow Bar fits perfectly in the back of the Subaru when not in use.1217291

Using this Blue Ox Adventurer Tow Bar on my Colorado together with a Blue Ox base plate. Both are a perfect fit and do the job very well. Would buy it again, and yes, I'm very happy with the service I got from etrailer.com. Highly recommended. Ordered it from Canada and had it shipped to the border without problems. Thank you for saving me a lot of money.704917

My Blue Ox Tow Bar arrived faster than I expected. It fit the existing mounting brackets on my Jeep Wrangler perfectly. If my oil pump drive gear fails again, it will be easy for someone to tow me home. Now my wife won't worry so much when I'm hunting in the Wyoming mountains.337803

This is a great budget towbar. It was even easier than I expected to hook up to the car and connect to my motorcoach. I am towing a 2015 Honda Fit and I was able to easily pull my car around by hand after hooking it up to this towbar.178796

We do indeed have the Blue Ox Adventurer Tow Bar available. In addition to the tow bar, you would also need base plates for the dinghy, safety cables, lighting for the dinghy so its taillights work in tandem with the RV and a supplemental braking system.
I have linked you to listings for the recommended items for your vehicle in each category. I have also linked you to some informational articles about flat towing that you might find helpful.

Unfortunately there is no adapter that will work with the shank on your Alpha tow bar that would attach to a ball on the rear of the moving truck. I called my contact at Blue Ox and they told me there is no way to convert the Alpha to be able to tow with a hitch ball.
My best recommendation is to use a tow bar that can be used with a ball and your base plates. I recommend the Blue Ox Adventurer, part # BX7322. This is not terribly expensive and will work with the base plates you have.... view full answer...

The Blue Ox Adventurer Tow Bar, part # BX7322, will work with Blue Ox base plate kits that have a bracket distance between 16-34 inches. The Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, part # BX1976, that you referenced for your 2009 Jeep Liberty has a distance of 22 inches between the brackets, and uses removable tabs, so it should work well for you. You will not need an adapter.

That said, we do have adapters that will allow you to use other tow bars as well so if you let me know what you have I can see if we have an adapter for this. view full answer...
A car-mount tow bar like the Blue Ox Adventurer # BX7322 is not vehicle specific but its fit will depend on using compatible base plates or adding adapters if the base plates are from a different manufacturer.
Flat towing requires a few components in addition to the tow bar. You'll also need a lighting/wiring solution, safety cables and a supplementary braking system. Each of these items is detailed in the linked article.

Your only option to install the required brackets for a tow bar on your Jeep Wrangler without removing the existing snow plow mounts is with the Blue Ox Bolt-On Base Plate Kit # BX88230. This universal kit allows you to essentially create your own base plates and they will simply mount to a flat, metal section on your Jeep's bumper.

I wish we had a base plate kit that fit a 2005 Ford Ranger Edge without tow hooks but the only option we would have for you would be a tow dolly like the part # RM-2050-1.
Tow dollies have the advantage of being easily transferred to a different vehicle if needed, there's only a fraction of the install time needed with base plate kits and braking systems. The costs are pretty close too since the price of all the flat towing components adds up pretty quick. view full answer...
