The arms on the Avail are designed to make hooking up super easy. It gives you a lot of flexibility for getting your toad (towed vehicle) connected to your RV, without the need for your vehicle to be perfectly level or in the exact right spot.
Just slide the tow bar into your hitch and pin it in place, then extend the telescoping arms out until they reach the base plate tabs on your car. Then the swivel head joint allows the whole tow bar to twist left and right as you work to get the arms into place.
Once you're all hooked up, slowly pull forward and the self-aligning arms will fully extend and lock into the towing position. Double check that the arms are properly latched and you'll be ready to hit the road!
The Avail's arms are longer than average, giving you an above-average turning radius. You're going to be able to get around obstacles and make sharp turns with no worry of clipping the corner of your RV. Maneuver through gas stations and the campsite no problem.
Uneven ground and sharp angles can put the arms of the tow bar in a bind and make them stiff and immoveable. Once you get to your destination, the last thing you need is to spend several minutes wrestling, yanking, and kicking at them to get your car disconnected.
Instead, get out of a bind in one easy step. Simply press down on the Avail's non-binding levers to disengage the internal latches in the arms. This releases the pent-up pressure so you can unhook and get on with your adventure.
Blue Ox tow bars have triple-lug brackets to create an extra-secure connection to the base plate. It's a small detail with big benefits, as this crucial component of your flat tow setup is guaranteed to be tight and sturdy.
The Avail folds up to conveniently store on the back of your RV when you're not using it. After disconnecting the tow bar from your toad, push the arms of the tow bar together so that they are side by side. Push the tow bar up so the bracket on the shank holds it in place. The arms can then swing to the right or to the left, whichever side you want to store it on.
For added protection from the elements, slip the Blue Ox tow bar cover (BX88309 - sold separately) over the Avail when you're not using it.
Included with this tow bar are 2 coiled safety cables rated at 10,000 lbs. These cables, required by law, will keep your toad behind your RV if there's ever an accidental disconnect while towing. The steel hooks on each end of the cables connect to the toad's base plate and the RV's trailer hitch. The spring-loaded latches ensure that the hooks stay connected.
Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.
To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.
For the RV | Between the RV and Towed Car | For the Towed Car |
---|---|---|
Hitch | Tow bar | Base plate |
Wiring plug | Safety cables | Braking system |
Wiring adapter cord | Wiring kit/diodes |
The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

Extra-long arms help you make tight turns.I regret not getting an aluminum tow bar. The bx7420 blue ox is covered when not in use and one year later it is rusted and looks like its 10 years old. I am beginning to question the safety of the tow bar. Not sure what to do. I have always had blue ox but will consider other brands very soon.

Thank you for sending over the pictures. I can see what you are talking about. I reached out to Blue Ox who will be in touch with you.
Absolutely love our Blue Ox system. Was easy to install (with a little mechanical help) and has served us over 11,000 this past year.
We've towed over all sorts of terrain and would absolutely purchase this again and recommend it to anyone who asks!
This is my 3rd tow bar. The first two was a struggle to detach. Often having to drive the pins out. This tow bar doesn’t bind. Unlock and pull the pins out. It’s easy.
Alex J. set me up with this system for my lifted 2009 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon to tow behind my Tiffin Allegro Bus. Alex really went out of his way to work with me during the whole process of configuration, order, shipping, install, and made sure everything worked perfect! It is really refreshing to have people still take pride in their work and customer satisfaction!! I have now become a repeat customer of Alex and etrailer due to this level of response and support.
Has worked well for us, towing our Grand Cherokee about 3,000 miles and Jeep Wrangler 8,000. Set up is simple. Fish has worn and paint has chipped off of both sets of adapters that connect to the base plates. Unit is heavy. Just sent it to Blue Ox for refurbishing, which they recommend after 10,000 or so miles
I've been towing with a Blue Ox Aventa II since 2004 (about 125,000 miles). When I decided to replace it (no indications of excess wear or damage) I wanted a similar product. The Avail Model BX7420 appeared to be the best match. I shopped around and etrailer semed to have the best deal. They were also recommended by a friend. The product was delivered on the day eTrailer had estimated in excellent condition with installation instructions and everything that was advertised. I would do business with these folks again.
Heavier than our last Aluminum blue ox but it appears to be just as sturdy. Only used it once to tow jeep about 25 miles but down a tight canyon road. Didn’t notice any unusual characteristics in the short trip while in tow.
Easy to order, answered all questions to be sure I had correct project. Attached videos for both wiring & base plate install. Both excellent & spot on making my work a no brainer.

Love our Avail tow bar. With 5K plus miles behind us we have found Blue Ox system great for flat towing our 2014 Kia Soul manual. Do not even know it is behind us other than camera. Tight turns & bumpy roads no problem. If their is one area I am unhappy with it is the paint. Paint started to flake off & rusty spots appeared under paint in areas tow bar was always covered or removed went not in use. I stripped tow bar & repainted along with servicing it. Performance has been excellent & I’d highly recommend Blue Ox. Even the base plate installation was easy following your video. In fact if it were not for the locking pins attaching to motorhome someone else would be enjoying it. They only got away with our base plate to tow bar pins. They went under our cover & we never new it until ready to hook up. I advise all to remove anything that is not locked. Know you have a good product when other want to steal it!
worked as advertised, installation is the same labor as other tow bars. The Avail tow bar is sturdy and able to tow my 7K lbs vehicle.
Great product a I expected, service with etrailer was fast and easy and shipping was fast.Great experience!
etrailer went out of their way to make sure I was satisfied. Evidently a part was missing from one of the boxes they shipped, probably a shipper issue. They immediately shipped me replacement parts. Highly recommended and great communications.
I’ve towed a Jeep jl 4 door lifted with 37 inch tires from Ga to western states twice with the hitch and to the beach once. I have zero complaints. It’s a great hitch. I would highly recommend it. I would choose it over the one built out aluminum.
I needed to replace my current tow bar due to a failure of the locking mechanism. The one that was recommended to replace it was the Avail model. etrailer had the best deal and they got it to me within 4 days of my order. They also kept me informed of the status and the ultimate delivery of the unit.
Rose at etrailer is fantastic.
Bought a larger, heavier towed vehicle. I needed a heavier duty tow system. Rose helped me pick out just the right Blue Ox system. Arrived in two days and installation took 10 minutes.
Highly recommend both etrailer and Blue Ox.
Very pleased the product was delivered and in good shape. I was surprised a cover was not included for the tow bar but maybe I just assumed that since my last blue ox did include the cover.
The tow bar and cover arrived as described, packaged very well, and arrived on the date aid been told. We’re very happy with the merchandise and customer service at e-trailer.
Great service from George at etrailer. Will purchase from them again.
Excellent product! Used to pull my 2020 Jeep 4 Door Wrangler. This is actually my second one. First one was totaled in an accident, but I was so impressed with the first one that I purchased the same one as a replacement. Well made and very heavy duty. Easy to hook up to my toad which uses a Blue Ox base plate. 10k capacity gives me the peace of mind when pulling my Jeep and the option to pull my F350.
Ordering was easy at a great price and delivery was fast. The only issue was that the box was damaged on the end and the tow hitch paint was scratched after opening the box. Blue Ox could pack the tow bar a little better. The retaining clip for the tow bar was also missing, but luckily I had a spare.
This is my second Blue Ox, and I really like their setup. Shipping was fast, and it was delivered on time.
I have used etrailer several times over the years and always received first class service. Highly recommend this top notch retailer.

Excellent! Towed my truck to Alaska and back with no problems. We’ve towed our truck over 18,000 miles so far this year. Sold on Blue Ox products.
Great product and easy to follow detailed instructions.
This is a replacement product for our original tow bar (purchased November 2022). The original bar rusted badly and was not strong enough to withstand roads under construction despite us going very slowly (motorhome towing truck) - one arm bent out of shape and then completely in half.
With a broken tow bar we were ‘stranded’ camping.. Local RV shops had no replacements. ETrailer came through for us. Not only did they carry the product, they also offered an expedited shipment
Although very expensive we received the new tow bar and were on our way again in a couple days.
Do you have a question about this Tow Bar?

You know I am not sure if rust would be covered under the warranty for it, however, I am happy to look into it for you. Would you be able to send a picture?
