Perfect for light-duty towing, this custom, vehicle trailer hitch receiver features fully welded, gloss powder coated steel construction. Drawbar sold separately.I needed a hitch for my bike rack and this looked to be just the ticket. I was aware that the muffler would need to be lowered in order to fit the hitch. I jacked up the rear passenger wheel and put it on a concrete block to give me about 4 extra inches of clearance to work with. The drivers side wheel was on the ground. Getting the rubber muffler mounts off was the most difficult part of the installation. After much cursing trying to push the rubber mounts off I pushed a fine flat blade screwdriver between the rubber and steel mounts and lubricated with dish soap - voila - off they came. Leave the innermost rubber attached to the car, the outer most to the muffler - they go back on very easily that way. You do not need to bend the heat shield, the hitch will slide under it. I was a bit dubious about cutting the plastic tray for the driver side mount but here's how i did it. 18mm socket to undo the 4 plastic bolts - then 10mm to get the small bolt on the driver side and a philips screwdriver to get the two screws out by the rear bumper on the drivers side. - Measure carefully and mark the area to cut away - mine was about 5 inches long and 4 inches wide - I used a spiral saw on my Dremel and sanded the cut edge smooth. I then remounted the plastic tray before attaching the hitch. The supplied fishing wires worked great and it was easy to get the bolts into the holes in the frame. start with the passenger side making sure not to trap the rubber muffler mount - then do the u-bolt on the tow point then the driver side frame bolt - torque them all up and put the muffler back on - the outside rubber goes back onto the car very easily the inner on is a bit harder but soap helps. Took me about an hour total - most of which was repeated measuring and marking before I cut the rear underbody plastic tray. All in all a nice product and it looks really neat.
Thanks of for the follow-up John. Since this hitch is a Class 1 the manufacturer's recommended ball mount is required, which is part # C45521
Curt Class II Drawbar - 2-5/8" Rise, 3-1/4" Drop - 7-1/4" Long - 3,500 lbs
$31.76. For a wiring harness I would recommend the Tekonsha wiring harness # 118673
T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector
$60.64. I have included links to these products and an informational article for your reference. Additionally please note that Curt also recommends the use of a stabilizing strap # 10850 when using no trailer loads with your hitch for extra support.
Prompt delivery. This is a quality tow hitch for a good price. The installation was a breeze and fits perfect on my 2016 Honda Hr-v Ex-L AWD.
Definitely would not tow much with it. I purchased for my bike rack only. 2 bolts and ubolt hold it on. The rubber garment for exhaust must be left on car side before installing hitch. 1 exhaust mount very easy to put back on, the 2nd is extremely hard. Not the best design but manageable.
I have not installed it yet so no comment on how easy or hard that is.I am dissapointed that this did not come with a rubber hitch cover.....I did not see this when I bought the tow bar..Its only $x.xx and would be better to be included and put on my invoice.....
Installed it today myself, the video they posted with our vehicle was very helpful. I would add, it’s nice to have a jack and a second person for sure. The hardest part is pulling the exhaust off. So make sure you have some PB blaster or something and some patience. I was able to do it with a good amount of cursing, but the items provided were really helpful. The thin cable with coiled end to screw on the bolt was very important. DO NOT thread it on the coil too much, I had to destroy it to get it off. Good luck to all that install it themselves. Great product so far.
As with every order we have made with etrailer, must say excellent, from the customer assistance to the actual products. The trailer hitch for my friends Honda is perfect. Thanks this is the way all companies should be.
The trailer hitch was relatively easy to install. I did find that I needed to modify the heat shield over the muffler in a different spot then indicated in the instructional video. I am giving this a low rating because the attachment bolt/nut has such a small clearance above the muffler that the muffler rattles against it (Yes, I made sure to use the shorter bolt on this side of the car). I can not think of an easy fix, but also cannot remove the hitch and attachment bolts. The rattle goes away after a minute or two of driving, but it is likely to wear a hole in the muffler in a short period of time. I am thinking of looking to see if there are slightly larger muffler hangers that will lower the muffler ~1/4 inch.
Very happy with my purchase! I don’t do mechanic work... but between the instructions provided and the installation video, I felt super comfortable taking care of this myself by borrowing my dad’s tools and garage. This hitch receiver looks as flush and minimal as it possibly could on my 2016 Honda HR-V. I don’t think it looks aftermarket or conspicuous. I’m still waiting to see what it looks like with my new bike rack, which is on backorder (due to Covid-19), but I’m sure it’s going to be MUCH better than my old strap-on trunk rack.
Quick & easy install. Perfect for my bike rack & other things to come.
Man, that was easy. It took me about 20 minutes. The video was spot on and straight forward. Had a 2nd hand to hold it up while I started the nuts onto the bolts. Hardest part was re-hanging the exhaust. (Use lube and a pry bar). This was on an AWD so no trimming.
This is my second Curt trailer hitch. The first stayed with the car I sold, but worked very well. They are exactly as advertised, and mine was VERY easy to install. I did it myself in about 40 minutes--that's backing my HRV up onto the ramps, to everything put away and washing my hands. Dealing with eTrailer was smooth and easy, and fast.
Installed this hitch on a 2017 HR-V for my son and his wife to haul their road bikes on. Installation was straight forward and east. Nothing complicated at all. Made from high quality material and fit without any issues. I would highly recommend this trailer hitch :)
Great product, and very well planned installation on a brand new HR-V. The video indicated I would have to bend the muffler heat shield a little, but I installed that bolt/side first and let it lever the room it needed (practically none). I would say that getting inboard rear muffler isolation mount back on would be tough for a lot of people, as it was a tight space and required a great deal of prying - muffler backwards and rubber mount downwards. I also purchased an adapter to go from 1-1/4" to a 2" receiver with a 4-1/2" rise, and this made using my existing 2" flat rack and bike rack immediately usable on this vehicle. The measurements suggested it would be a close fit, and the adapter was either just touching the plastic bumper (we don't want rub marks!), or about a 1/16" away from it. I ground off about 1/8" from the top tapered down about 3/4" and it's perfect.
I added this hitch to my Honda HRV so I could haul our bikes. It has a been a year and we have used it so many times. In fact, I just got back last night from camping in MI and the bikes traveled well! Still Love my hitch!!
Arrived ahead of time. Installation was pretty easy. They included a video which was really helpful. Great experience!
It has held up well, looks good and gets the job done. What else can I say about a hitch cover
The hitch fit my 2018 HRV EX perfectly, installation took me less than 30min with simple hand tools. Thanks eTrailer!
El hitch llego bien y se instalo el mismo dia. Quedo exactamente como deberia. Podrian mejorar las instrucciones de instalacion, pues requirio de leerlas varias veces y verlas en el sitio de Curtis. [Translation: The hitch arrived well and settled the same day. I remain exactly as I should. They could improve the installation instructions, since it required to read them several times and to see them in the site of Curtis.]
I put the 118673 wiring kit and a Curt Hitch receiver on a 2019 Honda HRV All Wheel drive and How can one not love it when you get done and it all works like it is supposed to. The Curt hitch almost hides at the back of the vehicle. My wife didn't notice it until I told her it was already installed. Keeping in mind, the times suggested are for a “PRO” who has a hoist to put the vehicle on and it will take the DIYer a bit longer. The only “real problem” that I had was that with the torque wrench I have, (one brought over on the Mayflower) I was unable to get enough swing to use it on the nut up above the muffler so after tightening the driver side nut, I then used a box-end and using the feel needed to tighten it a bit more, I used that feel to tighten the passenger side above the muffler. Even at 75 years of age and with vertigo, I still have the ability to turn an hour job into a 5 hour job and now my wife understands why I did not want her to sell my ramps, jack-stands and other things she thought an old man shouldn't need. Chidding aside, the videos accessed from etrailer were very good and very helpful. First, because I am “cheap” I was not going to pay over $400 to have a hitch installed, almost $500 for one that was not visible when not in use when the rear differential on the AWD HRV was visible from behind anyhow. I was also not going to pay to use a hoist so I just borrowed a set of ramps using them first under the rear wheels and then under the front to complete the installation of the power lead from the vehicle battery to the trailer lite converter box. A couple suggestions; the first, is do not take the fish wires off of the bolts before you have the hitch up in place. I thought that the hitch was light enough that I could put it up there, hold it in place and start the nuts but as luck would have it, one of the bolts ended up inside the frame. Not wanting it in there to rattle around I had to find a magnet small enough to fit through the hole used to fish the bolt into place and using a stiff enough piece of wire to be able to move the magnet effectively I manage to recover the bolt. Then I had to “RE-form” the fish wire to use it again to fish the bolt into place again. The second suggestion is that I used a lot more Zip-ty's than were supplied because we live in snow country and I did not want snow and ice hanging from the power lead and bringing it down lower and possibly getting damaged during our winters and I also put the power lead inside a flexible vinyl tubing which took a bit of creative pursuation to get 20 feet of wire into a 3/8 in flexible vinyl tubing but I think the extra protection the lead will have is worth the effort. And finally, if you remove a cargo area light from the cargo area side panel to get extra room behind the side panel, one has to make sure you have put it back into its place of mounting or you will have to take the rear door threshold and side panel loose again to get your cargo area light back into its proper place.
Our hitch came quickly and was exactly what we needed for our bike rack. Thank you for the excellent service and follow up!
Excellent Fitment. Easy installation. Very nice Hitch
Curt Trailer Hitch: This is an excellent trailer hitch. Took it to Pep Boys to have it installed and it was only $35 for installation. Service was quick and efficient. I would recommend this product and etrailer products, in particular. Don't wait, buy this trailer hitch from etrailer!
Have not installed it yet but it looks very substantial and I have installed a bunch of these over the years and they’re always right on the money.
I have not had a lick of trouble out of this hitch, I pull a teardrop camper with it. I have been to Arizona and back to Indiana, I've not has any performance issues.
It was such an easy installation! Very sturdy and no doubt more than enough when using a bike rack.
