2013 Toyota Prius

March 2013 - '07 Toyota Prius Curt Hitch. This is my second Curt hitch from, and they are great products that hold up well even with the salt and sand in winter. The Prius hitch is very easy to install for a DIY'er. It takes about 45 minutes with only basic tools. The instructions are clear and the hitch lined up perfectly. This hitch is perfect for light duty or a bike rack, and is barely noticeable once installed. It is my opinion that the Curt hitch is worth the extra money as it is a very high quality product.

Arrived in a couple days. The installation video was spot on. Have dealt with ETrailer several times and have never had a problem with the service or products. Will not hesitate to order from them again.

2006 Toyota Prius

I had purchase another one that the receiver butted into the crossbar and it did not allow my bike carrier to engage into it as far as I wanted it to so that it would be in tighter to the bumper. This one the crossbar welds to each side of the receiver allowing my bike carrier to have more engagement or adjustment to get the bike carrier closer to the bumper of the vehicle. The bike carrier has absolutely no movement being able to engage into the receiver deeper.

2008 Toyota Prius

Great resources in video installation and thorough online description. I was able to select the exact product for my vehicle without having any additional questions. I took it to my local mechanic to install and it they said it was quick and easy to put on. Look forward to now having the option for a bike rack on my vehicle.

The trailer hitch has had no issues after a year of being on my Prius and continues to be a great way to store my bike rack. It’s been steady and secure through rain or shine. If any purchasing needs in the future, I would definitely do so through etrailer.

2005 Toyota Prius

Products seems very well-built and painted, I expect it will last for the life of the car, if not beyond. Only flaw on build is that manufacturer could have cleaned up weld splash before painting. E-Trailer could do a better job in packing item. Ends of hitch should be covered with padding (cardboard, etc) Sharp edges of heavy items will tend to blow through box. Arrived with minor scratches.
Hitch was very easy to attach, holes aligned perfectly making an install straight forward!

Shipping is always amazingly fast from etrailer

2007 Toyota Prius

So far the hitch receiver has held up beautifully! As far as I know, it fit onto my Prius with no problems (I had a mechanic install it, because I didn't have any way to raise my car).
A week after installing, I drove across the country with this and a bike rack attached, with no problems of any kind. I can't ask for anything else.

No problems to report - holding up well.

Toyota Prius

Hitch is well made, but the install was more hassle than need be. On my Prius the mounting holes in the hitch were an aggravating 1/8th inch too narrow. Once you find the right block of wood you can lever the hitch just that much wider and get the bolts started. You might file the holes a little bit ahead of time and make the job easier. ( a lot easier), this is an easy install made harder by poor engineering. Also, the pin that holds the thing you are inserting into the hitch is misdrilled and you cannot get the clip to fully engage, crazy! ( The orientation of the clip hole vs the handle on the pin just isn't right. This is an issue as the clip is almost engaged, but not fully. I'll grind the end and imagine it will work. Again, no one is really paying attention to what they are selling you.

2008 Toyota Prius

Seems like good quality but the holes don't quite line up right. They're about a quarter of an inch off. It's really frustrating cuz I don't have the tools to fix this and it's gonna be a pain to ship back. Might pay my neighbor who has the tools to fix it so I can actually mount it to my vehicle

Thank you for your review. The flex is not too hard to fix. You can simply use a step as leverage. Please see the help article below:

Toyota Prius

The trailer hitch arrived promptly intact. And it nicely fit on our Prius enabling us to use a recently purchased bike carrier.
We are satisfied with the results.

Our trailer hitch-1 year later. I am happy with the way this hitch has held up and functioned. No problem in recommending this hitch!

2009 Toyota Prius

We just bolted a 1 1/4 inch hitch on our 2009 Toyota Prius. It's a great, heavy duty, well-made product and is relatively easy to install.

2009 Toyota Prius

Install was just like the video. Took me a leisurely 45 minutes from start to finish. Everything fit together very well.

Order process was smooth. Hitch was easy to install (you do need the recommended torque wrench. Bolts weren't secure until I found one to get everything tight) and has worked perfectly.

The Curt trailer hitch receiver is well designed and easy to install. I am using it for transporting two bikes. With a 200 lb tongue weight it is perfect for two bikes and the bike rake.

2006 Toyota Prius

Very satisfied with the Curt trailer hitch receiver on my 2006 Prius. Thanks to great instructions, especially the video, it was easy to install with no lift needed. The fascia fasteners on my car didn't quite match the video - 5 of the 6 fasteners were different from the others - but all were easy to remove and replace. Just returned from an 800 mile trip with 2 bikes on a new hitch rack. I used the stabilization strap and there was no bounce and very little side to side sway. Thanks etrailer!

Toyota Prius

Easy to install. Good instructions. Very sturdy. Good price. Remember to set the Prius to power mode to pull your boat up a ramp. Then back to economy if you use it a ad I do.

Toyota Prius

I am planning a trip to Acadia National Park this Summer and needed a 4-bike carrier for my Prius. After viewing the instructional video and reading reviews, I was convinced that the Curt hitch and Thule rack were exactly what I needed. Everything was just as easy as the video made it sound. I put the hitch and the rack on the car by myself in about an hour. I would recommend the product and this web site to anyone who asks.

On the plus side, this is a pretty solid hitch. It should do the job at least as well as any other. On the minus side, this thing was an absolute nightmare to install. Curt must not use a proper jig to weld and drill because the holes were misaligned by something like 3/8 of an inch. It took me two hours and a good deal of brute force to get all four bolts in. I watched the etrailer installation video before my attempt and I did use the 2x4 trick. It helped to use a second shorter piece of wood to apply the load closer to the bolts, high on the flange.

Personally, I would tell a friend to try a different brand of hitch in hopes of an easier installation.

2009 Toyota Prius

The hitch was easy to install, the video on etrailer web site was helpful in installing it. we bought the hitch for a bike rack , as older Priuses are quite recommended for towing but you could tow a samll light trailer.

2005 Toyota Prius

I wanted a 2 bike carrier and a hitch to fit my 2005 Prius. Etrailer provided both. When I ran into a problem installing the hitch on my car, etrailer personnel responded immediately to help me resolve it. I am very happy with the quick delivery and friendly attention to my issue. The prices were fair too.

This is a great and well made hitch, and easy to install.

I'm giving it a 4 star, rather than 5 star, because the cotter pin that comes with it is impossible to securely fasten with the hairpin, because the angle of the hole in the cotter pin, is such that the hairpin won't fit through without hitting the back of the hitch, the round chain holes on the bottom, or the metal plate on top. It doesn't seem secure to me, because the only way I could get the hairpin in at all was to insert it facing up with the round side down. Even then, I couldn't get it in quite all the way for the hairpin to rest on the cotter pin.

2007 Toyota Prius

We bought this product for a long trip so that we could attach a bike rack. It's working great. Nice to have a hitch that we can depend on.

Really like the customer service from etrailer. They are so friendly and helpful.

Worked as advertised. Installation was straight forward. Instructions were sufficient. I was able to do it without assistance even though I was 77 years old. I cannot comment on the strength of the hitch as I only use it for my bike rack.

Acts as a spectacular intermediary between automobile and bike rack!

Easy install! Works very well

  • Can Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar, Part # 11468, Haul 2000 lbs with a 2009 Prius
The 2009 Prius is not specified to tow anything, according to the manufacturer. However, you will want to double check your owners manual to confirm the manufacturer recommendations and precautions in this regard. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar - Custom Fit, part # 11468, will fit your vehicle. It is intended for purposes such as supporting a bike rack or small cargo carrier. This light-duty Class I hitch receiver has a tongue weight (TW) rating of 200 pounds, which is adequate...

  • Where to Attach Stabilizing Straps when Using the Curt Hitch # 11468 On a 2008 Toyota Prius
You would attach a stabilizing strap like the Curt Bike Rack Strap with Cambuckle, # 18050, to the T where the upright bar meets the cross bar that holds the bike rack arms on the Thule bike rack. You would then attach the rubber coated hook on the end of the strap to the metal trunk lip on the vehicle and tighten the strap. You do not want to put undue stress on the lip when tightening the strap. The Curt Class I Hitch, # 11468, and your 2008 Toyota Prius are not designed to carry 4 bikes...

  • Where Does a Stabilizing Strap Attach for a Cargo Carrier and CURT Trailer Hitch, 2009 Toyota Prius
CURT Class I, II, and some Class III trailer hitches do require the use of stabilizing strap # 18050 on all non-trailer loads to be in compliance with the CURT warranty. A non-trailer load would include a cargo carrier, so you would need to use the strap. One end of the strap would be secured to the cargo carrier, the other end has a rubber coated hook. This hook can be placed in the gap between the trunk lid or hatch and the body of the vehicle on a Toyota Prius. The purpose of the strap...

  • Can Hitch from 2004 Toyota Prius Be Installed on 2010 Model
We do have a hitch fit for your 2010 Prius, but the Draw-Tite # 24808 that you purchased for your 2004 Prius fits 2004-2009 Toyota Prius models, but unfortunately not the 2010 model. For your 2010, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite # 24847. The hitch attachment points on the 2010 model are different than those of the 2004, so there's no safe way to modify your old hitch so it'll work. Attempting to modify the hitch can affect the strength of the steel that the hitch is constructed of, which...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2010 Toyota Prius
In 2010 they redesigned the Prius enough to require a new hitch fit. So the # C11468 would not carry over to your new Prius. Instead you'd want the Draw Tite part # 24847 which is a confirmed fit. I like this hitch over the Curt because it does not require the use of a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack. I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out as well.

  • Distance From Hitch Pin Hole to End of Receiver on Draw-Tite and Curt Hitches for 2005 Toyota Prius
From the hitch pin hole to the end of the receiver tube of the Curt # C11468 is 1-7/8 inches and the same measurement on Draw-Tite # 24808 is 2-1/8 inches. They're both a Class I hitch receivers so you'll need to use accessories specifically designed for Class I. You should know, the Curt hitch requires you to use a support strap, # 18050, when using the hitch to carry a bike rack.

Our most popular hitch for your Prius is the Draw-Tite # 24808. I have included a short installation video for you. • Curt 18110 compared to 18140
First lets talk about a hitch for your 2007 Toyota Prius, I would recommend the Draw Tite hitch part # 24808. The reason for this is that Curt recommends you use a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 when you use a non-supported load on the hitch like a cargo carrier. Draw Tite doesn't have that requirement so I think you would be happier with the # 24808. Now the differences between the Curt Cargo Carriers part # C18110 and the # C18145 are pretty substantial. All of this translates into a more durable hitch that you can rely on.
