This was an easy install (2015 Jeep Latitude). I did almost all the work by myself (65 years old). A few blocks of wood helped. The hardest part was running the hot wire to the battery and that little self-tapping ground screw. The screw fell out of the bit holder and drop down into the body. Luckily it fell through to the ground (I should have put a rag underneath to catch it). I didn't need jack stands but I did have a 2" ledge that I was able back onto and that gave me plenty of room underneath. I'm very pleased with the results.
Extremely easy to install. Now I just need to figure out wiring so I can use for towing and not only bike rack
Mark - 06/01/2022Installed the etrailer hitch on our 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude in about 1.5 hours and am very satisfied. The delay wasn't anything to do with the thorough instructions and complete parts included, only to wait for a friend to come help lift the hitch into place. This is definitely a two person install due to the weight and tight quarters plus having the right sockets, torgue wrench and garage space. Would purchase from etrailer again without question. Lucia - 10/30/2018There are times the hitch may come into contact with the exhaust system resulting in an annoying rattling sound. It is possible to bend the hanger with a pair of pliers to get the exhaust away from the hitch. If the exhaust is bolted to the frame, unbolt it and reposition it. In some situations, the rubber isolators can become stretched and cause the exhaust to hang lower. Sometimes simply replacing the rubber isolator will help keep the exhaust in place. Heather A - 10/30/2018I weighed all the options about buying a hitch for a new model car online, and decided to buy from etrailer since I read reviews about the great customer service. There was an issue with my shipment and, in fact, the customer service was outstanding and they worked with me on a quick resolution. The hitch was installed on a 2017 Jeep Cherokee and it looks great! I was concerned that since it is not a hidden hitch it would detract from the car, but you can barely notice it. It took about two hours to unpack, read the instructions and install it. We had two people but we used a hydraulic floor jack to lift and keep in place, so it could have easily been a one person job. The instructions were very clear. Had a little trouble with torching the last bolt because of the limited room available. Buying and installing ourselves saved us hundreds of dollars. We are using it for a bike rack and a flatbed trailer. I noticed that the wrap had worn off during transit on all the edges, so maybe covering those edges with cardboard before wrapping would prevent that.
The product showed up in a box that was nearly destroyed. Which was understandable because the trailer hitch bracket is heavy and oddly shaped. However when trying to install it onto the frame it didn't fit. After measuring the hole spacing it was off by about 1/2" center to center. It required us to bend the bracket back to shape (it must have been dropped or ran over during shipping). Once the bracket was fixed it went on fairly easily, just like it was designed to fit!
Thomas M - 11/30/2021My installation was on a 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2. No difficult with minimal mechanical skills, and having a lift and a trans jack made it an easy one person job. In addition to the existing M14 bolts, I did need to "reverse fishwire" 1/2" bolts for the front attachment holes (see photo). Before lifting the hitch in position I recommend trial fitting the bolts to the hitch and file/Dremel if clearance is needed.
Trailhawk owners will loose a lot of "departure angle" ground clearance with this under-slung hitch - see photo.
Had used etrailer.com before and had such a very nice experience, so when I recently bought a new Jeep and needed A new hitch receiver, I knew where to begin. After reading the reviews and watching videos, I decided on Curt 13171. Installation with the etrailer video and directions couldnt have been simpler. Took about 30 mins to get done. A concern I had was dropping the muffler down to get to the access holes and I was able to install it without doing that. Perfect fit, functional, looks great, and priced right. Very satisfied. I cant recommend etrailer and this receiver more highly. Thanks so much.

Haven’t field tested yet, but the installation was a breeze with some minor help from my wife for her small hands. Installation videos were spot on. Ordered because I found a lady stuck in a ditch and didn’t have one single hitch point on my 2019 Cherokee. Fit test with an 8 1/2 ton shackle. Pin slides right into the hook points.
This product came 1.5" short & would not fit my vehicle. I had to take it to a shop who almost didn't do it because it could destroy the weld & warranty. I understand a slight bend from shipping, but it was excessive. They customer service from Rodney was mediocre.. Jesse was great in assisting me with finding the right one for me. I just wasn't expecting the extra work.

Very happy with the hitch. Took me longer to install than the estimated time (2 hours) but I am 65 and so is my helper (wife). The directions were perfect. I purchased this so I can put a bike rack on my jeep.

Two 72 year old guys installed your hitch. We've learned to use our heads as our brawn is waining. My buddy has a lift, so we lifted the Jeep. We placed the hitch on a transmission jack after fishing the bolts in place. Fed the wires into the correct hitch mounting holes and lifted the hitch into place. Less than an hour and it was beer thirty.
Got home and attached my bike rack....all is well.

The installation does not involve any cutting of the bumper fascia
which is great since my Jeep Cherokee is a leased vehicle.
I needed this hitch for my mountain bike rack and my Jeep gets me to those back mountain trails. Ride on!
Installed by myself..used floor jack..wife helped balance it with pipe in receiver...had to remove stabilizer bars to get muffler in..easy enough..awesome product

Ronald - 05/31/2022After one year this hitch has held up to the elements well. No rust at all. I use it for my bike rack and 4x4 cargo bed. I have put a lot of weight on the cargo bed when traveling, with no issues at all. Installation was not a cinch. It does take some brute force. But without the bolt coils provided by etrailer I would have never been able to it. I was by myself with no help, so I used a car jack to support the hitch while I swung from side to side. I don’t recommend this though. It took me about triple the amount of time to install. Also when torquing down the bolts it was a little to tight for me to get in. So definitely invest in a flexible drive extension for your torque wrench. It will make project easier.
If you can change a tire, can do projects around the house and have a friend to help then you can definitely do this. Watch the video a few times to prepare yourself. To have someone else install one is almost triple the price if not more.
We use this trailer hitch for connecting a bike rack and it works just as expected. No issues at all, definitely worth a recommendation. Installation was comparably easy, it is however a two man job and you need a good, sturdy torque wrench...no different than on any other trailer hitch.
Thomas K - 04/21/2019Very happy with the purchase. Looks almost factory on our Jeep Cherokee. The online video on installation was very helpful and the instructions were spot on. Installed it myself in about an hour. It would have been easier on a lift with some help, but I used a floor jack to assist with the installation and I was able to do it myself on the garage floor. The hitch looks good. Haven’t used it yet, but it feels sturdy enough for our use. I ordered it online and delivery was very prompt. Box was damaged, but the hitch was ok.

Gregory - 11/25/2021Installed in about 30-45min. Just used regular floor jack on one side to give a little room to slide under. A swivel on the torque wrench may help depending on the style. The rear most bolt was a challenge to get torqued, may have been due to not having the jeep on a lift.
