2018 Ford Explorer

Perfect hitch for 2018 Ford Explorer. Have used with bike rack as well as cargo carrier. Very discrete as well under the rear bumper.

2012 Ford Explorer

This was a perfect fit for my 2012 Explorer. It looks and functions great and the price cannot be beat! eTrailer is a great company; you can tell this by the organization and details on their website. Tracking the package in transit is a breeze and items arrive on time.

The hitch is solid. The moment you take it out of the box, you’ll know you got a great part. I was able to install it myself, though it would have certainly been better to have someone help hold it in position just to get a bolt started on each side. In any case, it does not take long to install. All hardware was included and directions are minimal and straightforward. You’ll need some WD-40 to get the exhaust off its hangers, a strap to support the exhaust while it’s lowered, a socket set, and a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to specs. I did not have a torque wrench that went all the way up to the required torque value, so I ended up purchasing one at the local box store. If you don’t like acquiring tools, you could always ask a neighbor or maybe rent one from the local auto parts store. In any case, with the new wrench, as well as the 4-pole wiring harness and magnetic trailer lights (also purchased from etrailer), I still came out way ahead of what it would have cost to put on a hitch at the dealer. In essence, the $450 bike rack that goes in the hitch receiver and the quality torque wrench ($80) serve as “free” gifts to the family/myself for the DYI installation. Finally, some might want a Ford OEM hitch setup but the curved design of this particular custom hitch looks great. Happy hauling!

I received my new hitch and wiring harness quickly and without issue. The instructions were all clearly written. I would rate my mechanic abilities as moderate and I was able to complete the installation by myself during a Sunday afternoon in my driveway. I had some issues getting some of the old bolts out of the exhaust hangers due to some mild corrosion but nothing some PB Blaster could not solve. I was able to get all the new bolts secured and torqued down to spec easily and then re-hang the exhaust. I was able to pick up my new boat (about 1500lbs) and tow it home without issue.

Part of the hitch was scratch and some of the paint chipped off during shipping but it wasn't enough damage for me to be concerned with it. I also have not finalized where I am going to put the trailer harness plug so that's just zip tied on at the moment.

2015 Ford Explorer

I have a 2015 Ford Explorer and bought Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver from on a Thursday afternoon. I paid a little extra to have it arrive by no later than Tuesday. The hitch showed up on Monday evening around 6:00. It took me about 35 minutes to put on. Super easy, and it fit perfectly. The instructions and online videos from the website where very informative and took any reservations about installing it myself out of the picture. The young lady Chris from etrailer was very helpful and told me exactly what I needed. I definitely would recommend and this product to others. Nice Job. I was impressed.

2013 Ford Explorer

Installed in about 2 hours by myself. Pro tip. Make sure to use the included wire to feed the carriage bolt into the frame BEFORE you insert the tab. Would have been a 45 minute install if not for that. Super simple. Super beefy kit. Great hardware!

Easiest hitch I have ever installed. Instructions were good. Product was excellent. Perfect fit. Exhaust hangers swapped easily. Came home from a 9 hour day to find the hitch on porch. installed in about an hour in my drive way. Good product.

My hitch showed up quickly and works just as I hoped.

2017 Ford Explorer

Really like the way the Curt trailer hitch receiver looks on my 2017 Explorer. Class III receiver should be adequate for my 19’ center console boat. Thanks.

Trailer hitch fit perfect, we received it super fast, the price was great, with free shipping!
I use etrailer for all the off brands we get, and even for some dealership cars where the customer wants a heavier class hitch. We've never had any issues, thank you!

2017 Ford Explorer

Awesome low profile hitch. It looks great on my Ford Explorer! The installation was super easy. I got it installed in about 30 minutes. The only issue I ran into was removing the exhaust brackets from the factory. They were pretty tough to remove. Had to use a cheater bar to get them off. Other than that, the install was super easy. Everything fit perfectly! The install video was dead on. Watched it a couple of times and knew exactly what to do. Again, awesome hitch!

Purchase process was very easy, and installation only took me about an hour, no jack required! Did give me an excuse to buy a torque wrench, though.

2018 Ford Explorer

Excellent ++++++ I received my new hitch for my 2018 Ford Explorer. I You Tubed the install from etrailer, and I literally could have sat back and watch it install itself. What a breeze. The ONLY difficulty I had was lining up the blocks to raise the car up a bit to make the install easier. This is my second hitch from etrailer. Needless to say, I'm 100% satisfied. Great product, fast delivery. Thanks

Great. Love it.

I like the hitch a lot that I ordered from this company. They have been very helpful with videos to install it and anything else I needed. I would highly recommend anyone to order a trailer hitch from this company if they need one. I have had it for around a year and I have not seen any rust on it. Thank y'all for a good quality trailer hitch :-)

The hitch was well made and well designed. The fit was excellent and the installation was easy. I like the fact that it rides up close to the body and has never been a problem dragging on steep driveways. It looks and fits like an OEM hitch.

2013 Ford Explorer

was easy to install, simple instructions

2013 Ford Explorer

Installation was very easy. Video was very helpful.

2014 Ford Explorer

Awesome But Could Of Had Some Small Vials Of Lock Tight For Screws...

2017 Ford Explorer

I installed it on a 2017 Ford Explorer Limited. The installation was easy. I didn’t need to lift the vehicle and it took about 45 minutes with two people. It came to me with a number of chips around the front of the receiver tube, which is why I gave it four stars. I haven’t towed anything with it yet.

Great product and price. Required zero drilling input on myself. Paper instructions are good for wiping with go to [online] and find the matching etrailer video they do a good job there.

2016 Ford Explorer

Returning product due to order having back-order delays. I to Couldn't rate the product so this is for customer service. Thanks to Amy and her management approach to keeping customer satisfaction most important.

Love it, always had the best support from etrailer and great performance from Curt, both solid as a rock.

2016 Ford Explorer

I have a 2016 Explorer that the hitch went on as simple as can be. I think it took longer to grab the few tools needed than it did to install it. I’m going to get one for my daughters vehicle. I didn’t do the wiring because it’s only going to be used for a bike carrier and a little loading platform so can’t say how that would go, but the hitch I’d recommend to any one and everyone.

Great responses, great product, easy to follow application guide, quick, easy and accurate install product, delivered on time, as described, everything was A+ !! What more can you ask for!!
I will look to order first from etrailer every time!

2011 Ford Explorer

I ordered a hitch for my 2011 Ford Explorer and it fit perfectly. The wiring harness and the receiver installed quite easily as well. I couldn't be happier with the service and quality from etrailer on this order.

I’m always pleased with the products and service I have receive from etrailer!

  • Which Hitch for 2016 Ford Explorer Would Affect Hands Free Liftgate the Least
The Curt hitch part # C13386 would affect the hands free liftgate of your 2016 Ford Explorer the least as it is slightly more recessed under the rear bumper of the vehicle compared to other options.

  • Why is a Trailer Hitch for a 2013 Ford Explorer Rated Higher than the Vehicle
Trailer hitches have their own rating as you have stated and that is the rating for the hitch only. Whichever capacity is lower, the hitch or the vehicle, is the capacity you need to go by. In this case if your 2013 Ford Explorer is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight that is what you are limited to even though hitch # C13386 is rated for more. As you can see in the Ford towing guide you mentioned there are some models of the 2013 Ford Explorer that can tow more than 2,000 pounds...

  • Rubber Isolator on Passenger Side Muffler Clearance for Curt Hitch C13386 on a 2015 Ford Explorer
Exhaust systems can sometimes come pretty close to trailer hitches once installed as they occupy most of the same areas. Exhaust systems don't hang in the exact same on every vehicle so we have found that in most cases the exhaust contact is not common. When our hitch manufacturers design the hitches they do so with avoiding the exhaust in mind so in most cases the two exist perfectly fine together.

  • 2015 Ford Explorer Exhaust Hanger Makes Contact with Trailer Hitch
If there is no noise from the contact between the exhaust hanger and the hitch then you don't have to do anything. If there is noise or you just want some more space then there are some things you can do to create more space. I have included a link to a help article that covers the different methods you could employ. If all else fails then a muffler shop would be able to take care of the issue pretty easily since they have the tools and the know-how to work on exhaust systems. I doubt...

The carriage bolt on the passenger side of the Ford Explorer that is giving you trouble when installing the # C13386 has to be used when installing the hitch otherwise the warranty of the hitch would be voided. • Will Installing a Hitch on a 2014 Ford Explorer Void Warranty
When you install an aftermarket part on your vehicle like a trailer hitch in this case, you are protected by the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act. The carriage bolt for Curt trailer hitch # C13386 is the rearward most attachment point for the hitch on the passenger's side of the 2013 Ford Explorer. The hitch is given its rating based on, among other things, how it attaches to the vehicle. This is going to be a very easy fix and make your rides much quieter! The hangers on the exhaust system were not supposed to be re-installed. The Curt Hitch # C13386 has hanger brackets literally on the hitch that replace your hangers for your 2013 Ford Explorer. In the picture, I have noted the brackets, so it may take a bit of time, but you can take your OEM hangers out and hook your exhaust to the bracket on the hitch and your annoying clanking noise will disappear!
