Is this right For you? Product Expert Kathleen M says:

Yes, if you:

  • Struggle to see if your king pin is fully latched - color-coded system makes it easy to see from your cab
  • Go down washboard roads to get to your favorite campgrounds and need a little extra shock absorption to keep from feeling every bump

No, if you:

  • Don't have the patience to perfectly level out your trailer when unhooking - the cushioned head can cause the jaws to bind up
  • Navigate around tight corners often enough that getting out to operate the slider every time you need clearance gets to be a pain
Heavy-duty 5th-wheel trailer hitch has interlocking jaws, a torsion head, and a color-coded lock indicator for safety and security. Non-binding slider ensures proper clearance during slow turns. Rails and universal installation kit sold separately. 1-800-940-8924 to order CURT fifth wheel hitch part number C16521 or order online at etrailer.com. Free expert support on all CURT products. Secure, Interlocking Two-Piece Jaw

A16 Two-Piece Interlocking Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, interlocking, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Three-Point Indicator System

A16 Color Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

R16 Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Non-Binding Design

The round-tube design of this slider allows for relatively uninhibited movement of your fifth-wheel hitch. Because your hitch can glide smoothly and easily along the rods, there is less chance of binding.

With straight, flat contact points, as found with square-tube sliders, tension can build between the slider and the hitch when your truck and trailer are somewhat out of line or are on uneven ground. As a result, it can be difficult to properly activate the slider when your truck and trailer are not in a straight line.

With a round-tube slider, there is more give between the contacting surfaces, allowing better mobility of the hitch system. Fewer corners means less tension buildup. Activating a round-tube slider is easier, and operation as a whole is smoother.

Curt rebranded this fifth-wheel trailer hitch by changing its name from Q16 to A16 in 2016. All features and specifications remained the same.

Got the trailer hitch installed and am looking forward to trying it out this coming spring. What's nice about this Curt hitch is that it fits under the tonneau cover. E-trailer is a good company to work with! Very courteous people! Thank you!

Comments
Its been a year since purchasing this hitch and all I can say is that it is great to not have any jerking motion on rough roads. Plus, it breaks down easily into lighter pieces to remove it from the bed of the pickup.

First off I just got done installing the hitch and I hooked on my 35ft fith wheel trailer and went for a ride with windows down sun roof open and not a single rattle , clank , or noise from the bed of the truck with this hitch . It was easy to assemble but I did have one spot where the paint got chipped on the slider during shipping so I just touched it up . Very satisfied with hitch it latches automatically when you back in to it and the slider part works like it should .

The products have worked flawlessly no problems and thank you for checking back with me its nice when a company cares about there costumers. Next time I need any trailer products I will definitely be contacting etrailer.

The Curt A16 hitch is awesome. It never binds, tugs or has to settle in before it stops jerking. Works perfectly every time and keeps the ride nice and smooth. It is light-years ahead of the Reese 15k hitch that we had been using for the past few years. I cannot explain how happy I am with this hitch and the service we always get from etrailer. A++ guys. You are the best. I will always keep coming to you for my camping and towing needs. Thank you.

Comments
Fantastic. I really love this product. It has made my camping life so much easier and enjoyable than my old Reese hitch which was constantly binding. Thanks etrailer. You guys are always there when I need you.

Hitch works excellent, especially for a first time fifth wheel owner. Slider is easy to use. Have towed almost 3000 miles with it through the mountains of Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, and also Michigan. Trailer is 10,500 dry weight.

by:

The Curt system is really high quality. No issues at all putting the system in. One thing I do like is the position of the plate handle. It does not stick upward and is even with the plate. By designing the handle that way I can still cover my bed with my tonneau cover where other manufactures the handle was higher than the bed rail. The price was excellent and dealing with customer service was the same.

Fantastic! Real smooth when coupling and un-coupling

by:

Great product. Easy to assemble and fits perfectly in standard bed rails on 22” center. I have coupled up with it but have not towed with it yet. Have a short trip of about 400 miles coming up in about 2 weeks. So far I am very happy with the way it couples and slides. Unlike my old square tube slider this one is very smooth and the price was right . Ordered late afternoon on Thursday and it delivered on Monday. Great shipping time. I like everything about it especially the fact that when you uncouple it is automatically set to recouple.

Comments
This hitch is an outstanding product. Tows great with no noise. Extremely easy to hookup and unhook. I’ve had this a year and would highly recommend it. This is definitely a 5 star product.

This is my first fifth wheel. I have a short bed so I got the package deal with the hitch and the slider. Took me about 5 hrs to install with the custom mounting brackets and rails for my 2015 chevy 2500 HD. Everything went as the instructions said without any issues. I have only pulled my RV with it one time just to try it out. Felt very smooth no rattles or pops as I have herd with other hitches. So far I like it a lot.

by:

I am very pleased with my 5th wheel hitch.the install of the rails went well, and the assembly of the hitch itself also went well.first time towing 5th wheel no problem. I thought it was great that it was delivered promptly to my home no charge freight, that I believe saved me a lot money. I look forward to doing more towing this summer knowing the hitch is quality . Thank you for the follow up,I would recommend e trailer to anybody shopping for trailering equipment.

by:

Great hitch used it on a few trips already driven over 3,000 miles. Love the dual jaws and the adjustability, my truck sits a bit higher and I was able to adjust this down to get it where it needed to be- even with the Reese adapter plate(see photo). The polyurethane is also a nice touch, makes the ride a little more cozy then a standard hitch. Use with the provided lube plate

We love our Curt A16 5th Wheel Hitch W/r16 Slider that we purchased last year through etrailer.com. This hitch is a top quality, well-made hitch. It's very easy to hitch and unhitch. We couldn't be happier.

by:

Could not be happier. ...shipping arriving on time as scheduled, with other options available to your needs.
Shipping boxes little tore up but
exspected as it is heavy, but product boxes undamaged along with the items..
Assembly easy with directions included, and a video to help if needed. ..or staff to call to get you through.
Had existing rails to mount into, with the side mounting right in...head assembly fit into the slide without any issues. You will have to make your height adjustments depending on your needs for your application as I did..
First pull I made from last hitch was a 100% noticeable difference. Hook up and disconect with ease without any issues.
I will HIGHLY recommend etrailer for any needs to anyone they may have or products needing.
Thanks etrailer. ..you will be hearing from me down the road if needed for any of my RV needs

I recently installed the Q16 Slider Hitch on my 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. I have used it a couple of times now pulling my 5th wheel and have had no issues with it at all. I used the slide feature twice and both times it worked very easily and had my truck and trailer at a 90 degree angle with plenty of room to spare. Great product, was delivered in a very timely manner with no issues.

by:

I received the 2500HD custom fit rail kit and A16 slider hitch very quickly which was great because we were on a time crunch to pick up our new camper. I selected this hitch and rail combination after reading all of the positive reviews. A buddy and I installed it ourselves in a few hours and could not be more happy with the fitment. We used the installation video below the product description which really helped. Etrailer was great to work with and I would definitely order from them again. We will be picking up our fifth wheel this weekend and will comment on how well it performs!

My Curt A16 5th wheel trailer hitch with the R16 slider have turned out to be just what I needed for my truck and trailer. I have a 2017 Ram 2500 short bed pick-up. To start with I had an adapter in the bed of the truck which stands about 2" tall which I had purchased used and reconditioned. With the Slider and the Hitch installed on the adapter and the hitch set at it's lowest setting the unit is the perfect height for my 5th wheel. I pull a Cougar 23MLS 5th wheel. As I stated my Ram has a short bed but with the setup I have and the front of the Cougar being styled as it is, I have never had to use the slider when pulling the 5th wheel or when parking it. Even though I have never needed to use the slide, I'm glad that I have it due to the fact that it makes the set-up the perfect height for my trailer and maybe some day I might get into a spot where I might want to use it. As with any short bed pick-up I do keep a sharp eye on the trailer when backing up to park but so far I have not seen the front of the trailer getting really close to the cab of the pick-up at any time. Between the Hitch on the 5th wheel and the dual jaw of the Curt Hitch I get a really smooth ride going down the road. When I get to my destination I don't feel like I've been on some wild ride going down the road. To date the best Hitch and Trailer that I have ever had. Wish I had some pictures to share but do not have at this time.

by:

Great service, great products. Along with the slide hitch I also got the rails and brackets for my truck. It was a perfect fit. The only difficulty was tightening the bolts going through the bed to the brackets. There’s only about an inch clearance. The only thing I would change would be flipping the bolts so the nuts were easy to get to in the bed. However I was afraid it would compromise strength and safety. Ordered on Monday, delivered on Wednesday. And shipping was free!!! Awesome for a nearly 300lbs shipment.

by:

The ease of use with this hitch is unsurpassed. It slipped right into the rails in my bed and towed like a dream. No chucking or banging when starting/stopping. I almost forgot I had almost 11,000 pounds behind me. Thank you Curt and etrailer!

by:

I was excited at first to get this hitch, but after using it since June 2020 at would not recommend it to my friends. It does not close consistently when trying to hook up my 5th wheel and does not open consistently when trying to unhitch. I'm very disappointed in the is product, especially since it had good reviews. I will be looking soon for another product to replace this one. It is too frustrating to not know if it is going to be an easy hitch/unhitch. I hope this helps for people looking to buy this hitch.

by:

Easy install and simple to use. Very helpful staff at ETRAILER! The warning labels were damaged in shipping but that is minor.

by:

Upgraded from TT to fifth wheel. Once I learned the basic operation I have had mo problems with this hitch. Rides a little high because of adapter for factory puck adaptor but still fits my tonneau cover which I also bought from etrailer.

by:

I have installed the A16 slider on a 2020 Chevrolet 2500HD with the OEM puck system and a standard bed. I also installed the Demco 6333 rails. The A16 was shipped in two boxes and arrived within a couple days, which was much quicker than I had anticipated. We are moving from a travel trailer to a fifth wheel trailer and the trade developed pretty fast so the hitch arrived in plenty of time to get it mounted in the truck. Thank you etrailer! I have not towed with it yet but here are my comments as to the install and overall impression. It arrived damage free and all the parts were there. The instructions were for the most part straight forward, but I would recommend watching one of the etrailer install videos. I did and it did clear up some issues in the written instructions. Although, I couldn't find one for the A16 so I watched the A20 video. A similar install. It does require some metric sockets. The only problem I had with the slider was the inside mounting screws. They require an allen wrench for torquing. I almost stripped one of the heads when torquing. I realized I didn't have the allen in far enough. My bad and just a caution. The A16 comes with a set of rubber(?) spacers that fit between the slider mounts and the rail. They recommend using them but state that they may not fit in some installations. Well, I was bound and determined to use them on mine. Without them you could see and feel the slack between the rails and slider. It took a good bit of work and greasing the pins to get the pins in. The hitch head went on pretty easy. Four bolts and the handle install and you're done. One issue I have with my truck and this install is this: with the hitch setting at its lowest height, it sits 19" above the truck bed, almost parallel with the bed rails. Some of that height comes from the Demco rails which sit 2 3/4" above the bed. Not having picked up the trailer yet, I don't know exactly where the hitch head will need to be. One thing I do know is that it can't go any lower. I also have a bakflip bed cover and when closed it just covers the hitch. I realize that if the hitch needs to be raised, the bed cover won't close but it's not that hard to remove the hitch head on the A16. Did that already as a test. There's also the issue of the cover being folded back and hitting the front of the trailer on a sharp turn. I realize this has nothing to do with the operation or use of the A16 but may be something to consider for someone in a similar configuration. Unless something develops later, I am at this point pretty happy with the A16. And etrailer has always come through, are great to work with and very responsive on the shipping.

by:

We use this hitch on our auction lot to move fifth wheel travel trailers from our storage yard to our preview area. The hitch is the best one we have ever had. Well built, easy to use. And it gets a lot of use, moving an average of 20 fifth wheel units every week. Hopefully we won't need to purchase another one, but if we do, this is what we will buy, from etrailer. They are the best.

by:

Did a lot of research and asked multiple folks with 5th wheels. Decided on the Curt. It does chuck a bit, but overall happy with the hitch.

by:

I received my new hitch, slider package and puck system legs for my Ram 2500 and had it installed in about 2 hours. Backed up to my camper and connected with no problems once I got the camper king pin at the correct height. I like the overlapping jaws on this hitch much better my old hitch which didnt overlap. This just feels more secure. The hitch released and uncoupled with no problems. I'll be taking a trip with it soon and will know more about how it feels with 11,000 pounds connected to it but for now, very happy with my purchase.
I cant submitt my review without adding some kudo's to etrailer and their customer service team. I had ordered a different hitch but had second thoughts as to it being a good match for my truck. One call to customer service confirmed my thoughts and i had a different system on order and delivered in 3 days. Awesome team.

Still very happy with this setup. Have pulled our camper from South Georgia to the panhandle twice and as far north as Michigan since my first review. It works great and feels very secure when connected.

It does the job however there is a lot of clunking. Sometimes it hard to get it to latch. This was my second choice wanted a B&W but it was backordered at the time.

I did reach out to Curt about the experience that you had with the 5th wheel hitch. They advised that they do see issues with the 5th wheel if the lubrication when the handle area is not lubricated as shown on page 8 picture 5 of the instructions. They recommend to make sure all the lubrication maintenance that pages 8 and 9 show is done.

  • Does the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with R16 Slider Slide Back Automatically
The sliding 5th wheel trailer hitches that we carry such as # C16521 are manually operated. The hitch will not slide back until it is placed in the unlocked, slide position using the handle on the slide assembly. When you need to slide the trailer back you would park the truck, adjust the handle for maneuvering, then get back in the truck and pull forward. Once in the maneuvering position with the hitch slid back you can make low speed, tight turns. When finished put the hitch back into...

  • Where is the Height Range of a Fifth Wheel Hitch Measured From
The height range of the Curt Slider Fifth Wheel Hitch part # C16521 is from the top of the install rails to the top of hitch with the head sitting level. Most rails are about 1-1/4 inches in height. So the maximum height the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16521 that you referenced would sit in the bed of your truck would be 18-1/4 inches. Slider hitches are usually pretty heavy and this hitch is no exception as it weighs 193 lbs. The price for this hitch is available at the link below.

It sounds like your 2013 GMC Sierra 2500 has standard above the bed rails for a 5th wheel hitch. The Curt # C16521 5th wheel hitch you mentioned is indeed height adjustable from 17-1/2 to 21-1/2 inches in height. Some of the bed sides on todays trucks are pretty tall (like the Ford F Series), so the hitch heights needed to increase as well. To determine the necessary hitch height so your 5th wheel tows level, jack the 5th wheel so it's level. Measure from the bottom of the skid plate to the ground (not the king pin). Then measure the height of the truck's bed from the ground. Finding...

Yes, the Mor Ryde pin boxes are basically a standard pin box and would work fine with a Curt Fifth Wheel Hitch like the # C16521. • Available Height Adjustment of Curt # C16521 Q16 5th Wheel Hitch
The Curt # C16521 5th wheel hitch you mentioned is indeed height adjustable from 17-1/2 to 21-1/2 inches in height. Some of the bed sides on todays trucks are pretty tall (like the Ford F Series), so the hitch heights needed to increase as well. Take the bed height above the ground and add the hitch height to...

  • How to Determine Fifth Wheel Hitch Height Setting Needed
You will want the hitch to be set at the height that 1) allows the trailer to be level, and 2) allows you a minimum of 6 inches between the bottom of the trailer loft and the top of the bed rails. The fifth wheel hitches offer several inches of up and down adjustment to help accomplish this. Many pin boxes are also height adjustable. To do this you will want to measure from the top of your truck bed floor to the ground and then measure from the plate of the pin box on the trailer down...
