Secure, Interlocking Two-Piece Jaw

A16 Two-Piece Interlocking Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, interlocking, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Three-Point Indicator System

A16 Color Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

R16 Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Non-Binding Design

The round-tube design of this slider allows for relatively uninhibited movement of your fifth-wheel hitch. Because your hitch can glide smoothly and easily along the rods, there is less chance of binding.

With straight, flat contact points, as found with square-tube sliders, tension can build between the slider and the hitch when your truck and trailer are somewhat out of line or are on uneven ground. As a result, it can be difficult to properly activate the slider when your truck and trailer are not in a straight line.

With a round-tube slider, there is more give between the contacting surfaces, allowing better mobility of the hitch system. Fewer corners means less tension buildup. Activating a round-tube slider is easier, and operation as a whole is smoother.

Curt rebranded this fifth-wheel trailer hitch by changing its name from Q16 to A16 in 2016. All features and specifications remained the same.

Upgraded from TT to fifth wheel. Once I learned the basic operation I have had mo problems with this hitch. Rides a little high because of adapter for factory puck adaptor but still fits my tonneau cover which I also bought from etrailer.

I see you also purchased the Reese OEM adapter, part # RP30154. When using this adapter, the adapter will add 2 inches to the height of your fifth wheel hitch.

by:

Great hitch and great value. Our trailer is 2000lbs on the hitch and 12000lbs loaded, so not a huge rig. My favorite feature on this hitch is the locking jaw system, it makes coupling and un-coupling very smooth. The slider (when rarely used) is very smooth as well. Most of our towing is in the Colorado mountains and I feel very safe using this hitch. Lastly, I know this is just aesthetics, but it's a nice looking hitch.

by:

I called etrailer.com & spoke to a representative. After telling him which truck I had & the RV I was purchasing, he made 2 suggestions. I went with the Curt sliding 5th wheel hitch. With the hitch at it's lowest setting & the kingpin box at it's highest setting, the RV continues to sit 4 inches higher in the front compared to the back. When I called etrailer.com, I was told by the rep to speak with someone higher. I left a message on his voicemail. That was 2 days ago & still no call.
Needless to say I am disappointed.

I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you as soon as possible. I do not have a sliding hitch that is going to give you more clearance.

I neeeded to replaced my 15 year old hitch, shopped around, did my research, decided on the Curt A16. LOVE this hitch! On the old hitch I couldn't see the king pin when backing up, old plate sat high in front, this one stays level so you can see the pin and it's highth easily. When the hitch locks around the pin you get a green indicator on the front of the hicth, nice feature. You can easily see that the pin is locked in by double checking the back of the hitch. This is a slider hitch, mechanism works smoothly and trouble free. Like anything else, clean it, lubricate it, maintain it. Would recommend this hitch, would buy it again. Nicely priced at Etrailer. One more thing; Instalation and assembly were easy, basic nuts and bolts.

by:

The Curt A16 5th wheel w/ R16 slider is a great looking hitch. I received the hitch on May 11, 2023, replacing an older Reese 15K hitch with a slider lock bar. It was easy to finish the assembly and install. I immediately took my fifth wheel out, using the new hitch with the dual jaw locking system. The ride was amazing. The RV, which weighs approximately 10,000 pounds, loaded, did not buck or rattle, and responded perfectly to the turns, acceleration and deceleration with no issue. It was if there was nothing behind me.
The only issue with the Curt A16 is the height. At its lowest setting, the nose of the trailer was up too high. However, by raising the tongue of the RV to its highest setting, I was able to remedy most of that issue. I am looking forward to my trips this year with the new hitch!

by:

First off I just got done installing the hitch and I hooked on my 35ft fith wheel trailer and went for a ride with windows down sun roof open and not a single rattle , clank , or noise from the bed of the truck with this hitch . It was easy to assemble but I did have one spot where the paint got chipped on the slider during shipping so I just touched it up . Very satisfied with hitch it latches automatically when you back in to it and the slider part works like it should .

The products have worked flawlessly no problems and thank you for checking back with me its nice when a company cares about there costumers. Next time I need any trailer products I will definitely be contacting etrailer.

by:

Hitch works excellent, especially for a first time fifth wheel owner. Slider is easy to use. Have towed almost 3000 miles with it through the mountains of Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, and also Michigan. Trailer is 10,500 dry weight.

Its been another 3000 miles, and still flawless!

by:

The Curt system is really high quality. No issues at all putting the system in. One thing I do like is the position of the plate handle. It does not stick upward and is even with the plate. By designing the handle that way I can still cover my bed with my tonneau cover where other manufactures the handle was higher than the bed rail. The price was excellent and dealing with customer service was the same.

Fantastic! Real smooth when coupling and un-coupling

by:

I'm pleased with the product.

by:

Great product. Easy to assemble and fits perfectly in standard bed rails on 22” center. I have coupled up with it but have not towed with it yet. Have a short trip of about 400 miles coming up in about 2 weeks. So far I am very happy with the way it couples and slides. Unlike my old square tube slider this one is very smooth and the price was right . Ordered late afternoon on Thursday and it delivered on Monday. Great shipping time. I like everything about it especially the fact that when you uncouple it is automatically set to recouple.

This hitch is an outstanding product. Tows great with no noise. Extremely easy to hookup and unhook. I’ve had this a year and would highly recommend it. This is definitely a 5 star product.

by:

The people on the phones tried they're best or I would have given you a 1. This is the most disorganized business I have dealt with in a long time. It took three deliveries to get all the parts to me and over three weeks. When the three cardboard boxes first arrived they looked like they had been thrown out of two story building and arrived with few of the fasteners that were required for assembly of the Curt Hitch. The second delivery also was missing parts, so I ended up making what I needed so I could pickup my trailer that had been sitting there for three weeks. The Curt Hitch is another matter. It is definitely not a primer product!

by:

I am very pleased with my 5th wheel hitch.the install of the rails went well, and the assembly of the hitch itself also went well.first time towing 5th wheel no problem. I thought it was great that it was delivered promptly to my home no charge freight, that I believe saved me a lot money. I look forward to doing more towing this summer knowing the hitch is quality . Thank you for the follow up,I would recommend e trailer to anybody shopping for trailering equipment.

by:

Could not be happier. ...shipping arriving on time as scheduled, with other options available to your needs.
Shipping boxes little tore up but
exspected as it is heavy, but product boxes undamaged along with the items..
Assembly easy with directions included, and a video to help if needed. ..or staff to call to get you through.
Had existing rails to mount into, with the side mounting right in...head assembly fit into the slide without any issues. You will have to make your height adjustments depending on your needs for your application as I did..
First pull I made from last hitch was a 100% noticeable difference. Hook up and disconect with ease without any issues.
I will HIGHLY recommend etrailer for any needs to anyone they may have or products needing.
Thanks etrailer. ..you will be hearing from me down the road if needed for any of my RV needs

It does the job however there is a lot of clunking. Sometimes it hard to get it to latch. This was my second choice wanted a B&W but it was backordered at the time.

I did reach out to Curt about the experience that you had with the 5th wheel hitch. They advised that they do see issues with the 5th wheel if the lubrication when the handle area is not lubricated as shown on page 8 picture 5 of the instructions. They recommend to make sure all the lubrication maintenance that pages 8 and 9 show is done.

Going down the road its fine, Slide works ok. The problem is trying to get hooked up when your not on perfectly level ground, almost impossible. Would not buy again

We love our Curt A16 5th Wheel Hitch W/r16 Slider that we purchased last year through etrailer.com. This hitch is a top quality, well-made hitch. It's very easy to hitch and unhitch. We couldn't be happier.

by:

This is my first fifth wheel. I have a short bed so I got the package deal with the hitch and the slider. Took me about 5 hrs to install with the custom mounting brackets and rails for my 2015 chevy 2500 HD. Everything went as the instructions said without any issues. I have only pulled my RV with it one time just to try it out. Felt very smooth no rattles or pops as I have herd with other hitches. So far I like it a lot.

by:

I recently installed the Q16 Slider Hitch on my 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. I have used it a couple of times now pulling my 5th wheel and have had no issues with it at all. I used the slide feature twice and both times it worked very easily and had my truck and trailer at a 90 degree angle with plenty of room to spare. Great product, was delivered in a very timely manner with no issues.

by:

Great hitch used it on a few trips already driven over 3,000 miles. Love the dual jaws and the adjustability, my truck sits a bit higher and I was able to adjust this down to get it where it needed to be- even with the Reese adapter plate(see photo). The polyurethane is also a nice touch, makes the ride a little more cozy then a standard hitch. Use with the provided lube plate

by:

Seems to be a quality product—it is installed but I haven’t tried it out yet. Installation was simple and straightforward with clear to understand instructions. Looking forward to using it this weekend.

by:

I received the 2500HD custom fit rail kit and A16 slider hitch very quickly which was great because we were on a time crunch to pick up our new camper. I selected this hitch and rail combination after reading all of the positive reviews. A buddy and I installed it ourselves in a few hours and could not be more happy with the fitment. We used the installation video below the product description which really helped. Etrailer was great to work with and I would definitely order from them again. We will be picking up our fifth wheel this weekend and will comment on how well it performs!

by:

The hitch works great for us pulling our 5th wheel camper.

by:

Great service, great products. Along with the slide hitch I also got the rails and brackets for my truck. It was a perfect fit. The only difficulty was tightening the bolts going through the bed to the brackets. There’s only about an inch clearance. The only thing I would change would be flipping the bolts so the nuts were easy to get to in the bed. However I was afraid it would compromise strength and safety. Ordered on Monday, delivered on Wednesday. And shipping was free!!! Awesome for a nearly 300lbs shipment.

by:

The ease of use with this hitch is unsurpassed. It slipped right into the rails in my bed and towed like a dream. No chucking or banging when starting/stopping. I almost forgot I had almost 11,000 pounds behind me. Thank you Curt and etrailer!

by:

Hitch is very noisy and tons of slack almost to the point of feeling it would rip the truck in half . If your looking for a good 5th wheel hitch don’t buy this one .

by:

Easy install and simple to use. Very helpful staff at ETRAILER! The warning labels were damaged in shipping but that is minor.

  • Recommended Usage Of The Maneuvering Position On A Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch
Pulling with the slider in the maneuvering position will put unnecessary strain on your truck and hitch. This is why the hitch manufacturer and I both highly recommend not pulling for more than the turn and below 10 mph. The slide lock isn't rated for going at higher speeds and having to brake. Depending on the speed the hitch may not hold if it goes sliding forward and you could potentially have a loose 5th wheel barreling down the road. As for the truck you could damage your axle and...

  • Troubleshooting Handle on Curt A16 5th Wheel Hitch Not Moving to Tow Position
I reached out to my contact at Curt and he said the most common cause for the issue you're experiencing with the handle on your A16 5th Wheel Hitch # C16521 is that the handle mechanism (referred to as the "pawl" in the owner's manual) just needs to be lubricated. This is essentially a steel on steel component so if it's not greased it's pretty easy for the handle to get stuck on a particular position so that it doesn't snap back like it's supposed to when coupling up to the trailer. • How Far Can You Tow With A Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch In The Maneuvering Position
When placing your Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Slider # C16521 into the maneuvering position you'll only want to complete the turn and then slide it back into place to safely tow. Moving the hitch back puts the weight of the trailer behind the rear axle of the truck. This causes all sorts of ride/steering issues and could cause the front of the truck to point up. Going further than the turn places undue stress on the components of your truck and could seriously damage them.
