Is this right for you? Product Expert Kathleen M says:

Yes, if you:

  • Struggle to see if your king pin is fully latched - color-coded system makes it easy to see from your cab
  • Go down washboard roads to get to your favorite campgrounds and need a little extra shock absorption to keep from feeling every bump

No, if you:

  • Don't have the patience to perfectly level out your trailer when unhooking - the cushioned head can cause the jaws to bind up
  • Navigate around tight corners often enough that getting out to operate the slider every time you need clearance gets to be a pain
Heavy-duty 5th-wheel hitch has interlocking jaws, a torsion head, and a color-coded lock indicator for security. Non-binding slider ensures proper clearance during slow turns. Includes adapter rails for Chevy/GMC 5th-wheel towing prep package. 1-800-940-8924 to order CURT fifth wheel hitch part number C16668 or order online at Free expert support on all CURT products. Secure, Interlocking Two-Piece Jaw

A16 Two-Piece Interlocking Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, interlocking, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Three-Point Indicator System

A16 Color Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

R16 Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Non-Binding Design

The round-tube design of this slider allows for relatively uninhibited movement of your fifth-wheel hitch. Because your hitch can glide smoothly and easily along the rods, there is less chance of binding.

With straight, flat contact points, as found with square-tube sliders, tension can build between the slider and the hitch when your truck and trailer are somewhat out of line or are on uneven ground. As a result, it can be difficult to properly activate the slider when your truck and trailer are not in a straight line.

With a round-tube slider, there is more give between the contacting surfaces, allowing better mobility of the hitch system. Fewer corners means less tension buildup. Activating a round-tube slider is easier, and operation as a whole is smoother.

Curt rebranded this fifth-wheel trailer hitch by changing its name from Q16 to A16 in 2016. All features and specifications remained the same.

I Love this item. I "thought" I rec'd the wrong item because I didn't see C16668 on any of the 3 boxes. Instead, I saw 16560. C16668 must be the complete assy. Nonetheless, I just finished installing it in my 2018 GMC Denali 2500HD Duramax. It IS heavy (258 lbs assembled), and it's made extremely well. Can't wait to haul my new 5th wheel once it gets built!!! Thank you!

Larry - 01/06/2022

Hitch came at expected time. UPS guy says, oh my that's heavy, I helped. Got it installed easy enough but then I thought, wow, the new truck is taller, the new hitch is taller, how is this going to work out? Well it did. I raised the trailer pin box to max, 2". The RV rides a little higher than before, but acceptable. Good transaction. Thank you.

Very noisy hitch. Too much play in the sliding mechanism that causes noise and chucking when stopping and starting.

If you have a good connection to the king pin, it is also recommended to maintain your slider once or twice a year by applying a light coat of wheel bearing grease to the surface of the slide bar that holds the kingpin in place. For best results, apply the grease with the slide bar in the closed position. Then pull the slide bar open and apply a light coating of grease to the slide bar shaft that the handle is attached to.

The Curt 5th wheel hitch is rock solid. I don't get the chucking and clanging back and forth like I did with my old hitch. I love how the jaws wrap around my king pin and holds tight. I did not have problems when backing my 5th wheel up with my old hitch but I thought I'd try the slide type. For those who are nervous when backing up the ability to slide your hitch back 12" helps greatly. etrailer's price beat all others I could find and they answers my questions before I purchased.
If there was one draw back it would be the weight this thing is heavy even taking apart in sections that's comes with the slide model. I'm going to set up a chainfall in my garage to remove mine from my truck when I don't have someone to help me.
Great hitch I would definitely buy another Curt.

I like the Curt hitch very much. We just recently replaced an A16 with an A20. I like the fact that it's spring loaded locking arm clicks into the locked position. The down side is the overlapping jaws can get squeezed together when the truck is not level with the 5th wheel. The kingpin tends to squeeze the jaws together. Knowing that we still stuck with a Curt hitch. Our new Curt is not a sliding hitch as we now have a long bed.

The 5th wheel hitch was very well made, all fabrication welds are professional. Assembly of the hitch is simple, I installed all the fasteners, placed mounting assembly onto GMC factory installed rails, then tightened all self-locking nuts/bolts. Installed the R16 roller assembly and attached A16 hitch using supplied flat head machine screws. Prior to installing screws, I applied loctite thread locker to threads. All machine screws were torqued. I will be sending photos of the installation, soon. Great hitch. Regards, Earl Underwood

Package arrived as scheduled but the box's were really beat up. On the plus side nothing was missing. Hitch was very easy to assemble with great instructions, perfect fit for my truck. I would highly recommend this product from etrailer.

The delivery was in three boxes and faster than expected.
Assembly was straightforward. Note that everything is heavy but not difficult to assemble.
I agree with a previous reviewer that a block and tackle will be necessary for me to remove it from the bed of the truck.

I’m happy with the selection. The instructions call out using a torque wrench on a regular basis. Fortunately, I have one.

Great company to order from, good prices and very fast shipping.

Ive had this for a year now with no complaints. I have a 2019 Denali HD with the factory puck system. We love the hitch and towing our 42 Grand Design.Great product and the slider is easy to use.

Review from a similar A16 5th Wheel Hitch in Fifth Wheel Hitch

Upgraded from TT to fifth wheel. Once I learned the basic operation I have had mo problems with this hitch. Rides a little high because of adapter for factory puck adaptor but still fits my tonneau cover which I also bought from etrailer.

I see you also purchased the Reese OEM adapter, part # RP30154
Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Ram OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package - 25,000 lbs
. When using this adapter, the adapter will add 2 inches to the height of your fifth wheel hitch.

Review from a similar A16 5th Wheel Hitch in Fifth Wheel Hitch

Great hitch and great value. Our trailer is 2000lbs on the hitch and 12000lbs loaded, so not a huge rig. My favorite feature on this hitch is the locking jaw system, it makes coupling and un-coupling very smooth. The slider (when rarely used) is very smooth as well. Most of our towing is in the Colorado mountains and I feel very safe using this hitch. Lastly, I know this is just aesthetics, but it's a nice looking hitch.

Review from a similar A16 5th Wheel Hitch in Fifth Wheel Hitch

I purchased both the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs - C16120, and Reese Pull Pin Lock Plates for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - Qty 4 - RP58093 for my F350 SD 4X4 Crew Cab Long Bed. I'm pulling a 30' Retro 5th. Wheel and at times I pull my tandem axle UTV Trailer (Double Trailers) . I already had the rails installed in my truck, this fit right in and I used the new Pins and Lock Plates for securing to truck. I have pulled all over from South Dakota and the Northwest. The Hitch has performed Flawlessly. No bucking, nor clunking. Very quiet and smooth ride. I would recommend this set up to anyone for convenience of Hook up and Disconnect, Excellent towing, quiet, and the security of the lock pins. I use Disc locks to prevent access for bolt cutters.

Excellent! Still working as it did on day one. Very solid, easy to use, and the unit is very quiet. Also no chucking. I highly recommend this product to anybody. We now have 2020 Cameo 12,000# unloaded weight. Pulls perfectly.

Review from a similar A16 5th Wheel Hitch in Fifth Wheel Hitch

I think it's strong enough, however with my Curt Turning Point hitch (which came with my Reflection 150 series fifth wheel rv) it's many times a bear to get unhitched. If I had it to do over I'd go with the B&W Patriot.

Review from a similar A16 5th Wheel Hitch in Fifth Wheel Hitch

We've put 3000 miles and about ten trips so far in the first year, and this hitch has performed perfectly. I am very satisfied! I highly recommend !

Review from a similar A16 5th Wheel Hitch in Fifth Wheel Hitch

First off I just got done installing the hitch and I hooked on my 35ft fith wheel trailer and went for a ride with windows down sun roof open and not a single rattle , clank , or noise from the bed of the truck with this hitch . It was easy to assemble but I did have one spot where the paint got chipped on the slider during shipping so I just touched it up . Very satisfied with hitch it latches automatically when you back in to it and the slider part works like it should .

The products have worked flawlessly no problems and thank you for checking back with me its nice when a company cares about there costumers. Next time I need any trailer products I will definitely be contacting etrailer.

Review from a similar A16 5th Wheel Hitch in Fifth Wheel Hitch

I was fully expecting a hitch in excess of 100 pounds to show up in a destroyed box. This did not. They had taken the Time and effort to cover the box with an additional layer of cardboard and it must have had a million staples in it. It was almost comical, you will need a crowbar or large screwdriver to get it open. However, when I did finally get the package open I found a perfectly un scratched hitch with no missing parts. I have not pulled with the hitch yet but , it does look like it is going to perform great. I'm using this in a 2006 ram 2500 4x4 short bed pulling a 2015 forest river Salem and it allows 91 degrees of turning due to the clipped corners on the front cap of the trailer. I will be curious to see how long the rubber isolators last before needing replaced and if they are readily available. Also the curt sticker on the hitch was peeling off when I took it out of the box, would be nice to get that replaced.

Could not be happier with this hitch. Have never had any coupling or uncoupling problems even in odd angle situations. Does not rattle or let the trailer chuck around. Easy to move. In and out of the truck. The powder coating is fading and showing some signs of surface rust but this is most likely due to it living in the truck unprotected. I have since moved the hitch into a 2017 ram 2500 with the puck system. I bought the puck mount and every thing bolted up nicely. I keep the standard rail legs under the bed of the fifth wheel should I ever need to pull with a truck that doesn’t have pucks. This has happened once when our truck broke down. Would definitely recommend this hitch.

Review from a similar A16 5th Wheel Hitch in Fifth Wheel Hitch

Great product. Easy to assemble and fits perfectly in standard bed rails on 22” center. I have coupled up with it but have not towed with it yet. Have a short trip of about 400 miles coming up in about 2 weeks. So far I am very happy with the way it couples and slides. Unlike my old square tube slider this one is very smooth and the price was right . Ordered late afternoon on Thursday and it delivered on Monday. Great shipping time. I like everything about it especially the fact that when you uncouple it is automatically set to recouple.

This hitch is an outstanding product. Tows great with no noise. Extremely easy to hookup and unhook. I’ve had this a year and would highly recommend it. This is definitely a 5 star product.

Review from a similar A16 5th Wheel Hitch in Fifth Wheel Hitch

awesome upgrade from the clanker I had before. I use bed adaptor rails, solid connection with the dual jaws no noise while driving. Very happy with my purchase. Only issue is latch handle safety pin wont clear kingpin box if truck is turned to far to the left for hookup or drop off.

Review from a similar A16 5th Wheel Hitch in Fifth Wheel Hitch

Nice hitch and great service from etrailer. The shipper must have dropped the hitch en route and it was damaged on arrival. etrailer arranged a replacement without question. This is my second or third purchase from etrailer - always easy, efficient and very helpful pre-sales advice and customer service folks.

Your 2000 Fleetwood 335M trailer is on the lighter side, which means you only need a 5th wheel hitch with a 16,000 lb capacity for your short bed 2019 GMC Sierra 2500 with the factory puck system, and the hitch I recommend is the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with R16 Roller for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # C16668. • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch For 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500 Short Bed With Factory Puck System
A factory gooseneck on a 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500 means you have the OEM puck system, so all you'll need is a 5th wheel hitch that fits directly in those pucks. You'll just remove the gooseneck ball and instead install the hitch and you'll be set up to tow your 5th wheel trailer. Since you have a 6-1/2 foot short bed, you'll need a sliding 5th wheel hitch in order to have the proper clearances when making a tight turn, so your trailer doesn't make contact with your Chevy's cab. The GM factory fifth wheel rail kits are slightly different between the short and long bed trucks so the hitches we offer for the GM factory rail kits are bed length specific.
