Bar-Style Friction Sway Control
Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.
Selecting a Weight Distribution System
The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.
To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.
Forged Steel Spring Bars
The round spring bars are made from forged steel, giving them a distinct advantage over typical cast steel bars. Forging is a process where thermal and mechanical energy are applied to the steel, resulting in a finished product that is more resilient to impacts and is stronger in terms of shear strength. Simply put, these spring bars do a superior job of helping to hold your trailer in line because of their added strength and durability.
Built-In Grease Zerks
The system's head features 2 built-in grease zerks so that you can easily lubricate the spring bars without having to remove them from the head assembly. The grease zerks are located on each of the shafts that encase the spring bars. Simply use a grease gun (sold separately) to inject grease into each of the zerks.

Replaced a fastaway e2 with this. This hitch does what it is supposed to and with built in plate for friction sway control ball mounts it can be used with almost any trailer. The hitch was very easy to setup and I have transferred it between multiple trucks and setting up each time to about 20 minutes tops. Good reliable hitch.1406761

The equalizer hitch we purchased was more hitch than we needed to pull our ALiner, but we found that we were glad to have made this choice. We traveled though the Rocky Mountains, Oregon, Yellowstone Park and back home without any hint of problems. The hitch worked so well that we had little to no sway, went up mountain passes with ease, and were pleased with the weight distribution. We did have a learning curve on how to use the hitch, but we are novices on pulling anything. We found that it was very easy to use.248736

I have done business with etrailer for many years. Be it trailer hitches, tow bars, brake controlers, mirrors - the list goes on and on. Everytime I do a new transaction with them their service, attention to detail and customer satisfaction reinforces to me the rightness of my decision to only do business with them. I have no idea what I will need next but I do know UNEQUIVOCALLY it will be with them!491750

Easy to install . Distributes the weight like it's supposed to . Thank you 295218
The weight distribution system is pretty much standard you should order a new ball with this item.
Heavy duty putting it together if you don't have a one inch drive socket set you might consider taking it and your truck to a RV service center for setting it up. I have a 6000 lbs trailer and an F-150 works great.424184

Box was broken open, but all the parts where there. Hitch looks well made , have not used it or assembled it yet, but I think it will work fine. It is replacing my old hitch that has given me great service, but started giving me problems the last time I used it, it was 35 years old.857874

Put this on my 2013 Silverado 1500 for towing a travel trailer. It took about 90 minutes to install and make the adjustments. Seems like a good product so far. It will enable me to tow a travel trailer that would have otherwise been too heavy to tow. 654967

Two hours attempting to set this up and ultimately gave up and did not use it. It would not attach to my new trailer even with the pole tongue adapter. Worthless.229538

Easy to install and setup using the instructions supplied. Also there are plenty of YouTube videos to help you along. Very solid construction that seems like it will last a while but only time will tell. Definitely helped out with rear end sag and greatly improved handling.290926
To determine the tongue weight of your trailer when it is unloaded or loaded will require you to weigh it. For more info on that check out the link I attached. The tongue weight of a trailer isn't always listed.
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on weight distribution... view full answer...
A weight distribution system with trunnion bars would definitely offer more ground clearance at the trailer coupler because the bars don't extend below the weight distribution head like they do on round bar systems.
If you'd care to reply with the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your horse trailer, I'd be happy recommend a weight distribution system for you.
I've linked you to an FAQ article that explains how to determine your trailer's tongue weight, as well as to an... view full answer...
Trunnion Bar systems will have greater ground clearance under the coupler than round bar systems. However, the lowest point of the system would be the point where the chains connect to the ends of the spring bars. This would be about the same height on both types of systems.
If you'd like to reply with the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer, I'd be happy to recommend a system for you.
I'll link you to some FAQ articles you might find helpful. view full answer...
Yes, a set of detailed install instructions come with the Curt Weight Distribution system part # C17052 that you referenced. I attached a link to them if you wanted to check them out now.
I also attached a review video for this product and a couple other help articles on weight distribution. view full answer...
Weight distribution alone is basically a form of "sway control". It will help reduce sway caused by cross winds or passing semi-trucks greatly. Going with additional sway control isn't always needed and since you have a the Ford sway control built into the truck already I would assume you would be totally fine without a sway control system. view full answer...
The Curt MV Weight Distribution System - Round Bar - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # C17052 you have is rated correctly for your 6,850 lb loaded trailer, as your tongue weight should be right in the 800 lb - 1,000 lb range of the system. So I think the issue is with the auto-leveling air bag suspension not allowing the set up to be complete.
For vehicles with an auto-level system, what you will need to do when setting up weight distribution is first connect your fully loaded trailer with... view full answer...
The Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17052 referenced in your question has a shipping weight of 87 pounds. If needed you can also open the box and have the individual components loaded into your truck for easier lifting. For example the head itself weighs just 15 pounds while the spring bars will weigh around 14 pounds each.
I have attached the complete installation instructions too that you can show your mechanic ahead of time so he can take a look at the process. view full answer...
I do have an option for you but we do not have any options for replacement spring bars due to the age of the weight distribution system, they have been discontinued. Therefore, you will need to replace the system for which I recommend the Curt MV Weight Distribution System part # C17052 which has a 1,000 lb weight capacity and it is very cost effective. It's a complete system that comes with everything you need for the exception of the hitch ball but you can use your existing for this.... view full answer...
All of the Curt Weight Distribution Systems like the part # C17052 that you referenced come with a standard shank that can only do a drop of 1-1/2 inches.
The good news is that the Curt systems are priced so great that having to get a drop shank like the part # 17120 which can do 6-1/8 inches of drop still costs less than going with a different system that doesn't include a shank. view full answer...
The Curt weight distribution system part # C17052 is perfectly compatible with your Curt Friction Sway Control Item # 17200. You'd just need to mount the smaller ball of the kit to the brackets on either side of the hitch ball of this kit and you'd be set.
I attached a picture that shows what this will look like. view full answer...
We have the Curt Spring Bar Retainer Package # 17109 that will replace the pins and clips for your Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17052. view full answer...
To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
If the gross weight of each trailer is 7,000 pounds that would put the tongue weight range at 700 to 1,050 pounds. Based on that I recommend going with the 1,000 pound system # C17052 over an 800 pound system.... view full answer...
We cannot open the packages and swap out the shanks so the best option is to either just replace the shank that you have or choose a system that doesn't come with a shank and shank separately.
You don't have to get a whole new weight distribution system if you just need a shank with more drop. You can buy just a shank. Most shanks are interchangeable amongst the different manufacturers.
If the head of the weight distribution system you have now mounts to the shank using 3/4 inch diameter... view full answer...
The two Curt weight distribution (WD) hitches you referenced, parts # C17002 and # C17052, are both round bar type WD systems that are intended for trailer tongue weights between 800 and 1000-lbs. Both include the same component parts (and both do NOT include a hitch ball or friction anti-sway mechanism).
The main difference between them is that the MV # C17052 has grease zerks at the head to make it easier to lubricate that friction point. I confirmed this with my contact at Curt. view full answer...
I do have options for you but the frame dimensions will cause problems for most systems. If you want to use one with chains like the Curt Weight Distribution System part # C17052 then you'd have to swap out the clamp-on brackets for bolt-on, the Chain Hangers for Curt Weight Distribution Systems part # C17005. This system will have you covered while empty or loaded and it's easy to adjust this based on the load with the chains. view full answer...
For the tongue weight you mentioned of 360 lb dry the Curt weight distribution system # C17052 would be rated too high and would give you a pretty harsh ride quality. The # C17051 with it's range of 600 to 800 lbs would be a much better option once your trailer is loaded and would have a higher tongue weight. view full answer...
The Curt spring bars you mentioned won't fit a Pro Series weight distribution hitch as they are not designed to fit that head unit so they won't work. There are no longer Pro Series replacement bars available as they stopped making that version of hitch, so the only option available is a new system. Since you mentioned you had 1,000 lb spring bars you can use a similar Curt system:
- Curt MV Weight Distribution System - Round Bar - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # C17052
This is the most... view full answer...
I would be happy to help you find a weight distribution system that will work with your 1999 Ram 2500 truck and travel trailer. I recommend the Curt MV Weight Distribution System item # C17050. Your tongue weight should be right around 10% of your trailer's total weight. This system has a tongue weight range of 500 lbs - 600 lbs and a maximum gross towing weight of 6,000 lbs so it will be perfect for your setup. view full answer...
So long as the total tongue weight of your fully loaded 2022 Forest River Surveyor is between 600 lbs and 800 lbs, you can use the lower rated spring bars with the hitch head of your Curt MV Weight Distribution System - Round Bar - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # C17052. The MV systems all use the same hitch head, which is why different rated spring bars are compatible.
Having said that, without knowing your loaded tongue weight, it's impossible for me to know specifically if new bars are... view full answer...
The chain lift brackets that come with the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17052 have a single 1/2" bolt that is used to secure the bracket to your trailer frame. The instructions call out to turn the bolt until it makes contact with your trailer tongue and then tighten it another 1/4 turn.
The only time you would have to drill into your frame for a kit like this is if you didn't have the room for the standard lift brackets and you needed to install the brackets # C17005. view full answer...
The Hidden Hitch Model 40022 is a very old system and they do not offer replacement spring bars for this anymore. That said, we have an excellent option for replacement and it's very cost effective, the Curt MV Weight Distribution System part # C17052 which comes with everything you need except the hitch ball (2-5/16" Hitch Ball part # C40030) and has a 10,000 lbs / 1,000 lb weight capacity. view full answer...
If you're still experiencing a significant amount of rear sag on your Tundra when using a weight distribution system to tow a trailer, a good solution is a rear suspension enhancement kit, however the first thing I recommend doing is simply making sure your existing system is appropriately rated. The system needs to match up well with the total tongue weight of your setup, which includes both the loaded tongue weight of the trailer plus any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear... view full answer...
As long as you don't exceed the maximum tongue weight capacity of the hitch or the vehicle, whichever is lower you should be fine, but I'd consider adding a transmission cooler. You'll also want to do everything you can do to keep that trailer weight down if possible.
A transmission cooler would install in front of the radiator, directly behind the grille. It would tap inline to the transmission return line running from the radiator back to the transmission.
If you have an 11 x 7 inch... view full answer...
