Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the tail light housings. You will have to remove interior trim paneling to access these connection points. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness. This is going to allow you to hook up a trailer to your vehicle, so that the light signals that are being operated on your vehicle will be sent back to the trailer that you're towing, so that drivers behind you can see your turn signals, your running lights and your brake lights. Make sure that they know what's going on and can drive accordingly. Now, I just installed a very similar kit to this, on my wife's Toyota RAV4 recently.
So, I'm feel pretty comfortable talking to you about it. Now, this kit is specifically designed for your 2020 and newer Toyota Corolla Sedan. It's very similar across the board, so my experience with this is, it's very easy to install. Even if you're not very mechanically inclined, you don't work on your car all the time, I think you can do this and feel pretty good about yourself having done it.It's basically a plug and play system. So, you just have to get access to your tail light wiring, you're not going to have to cut anything, splice anything there.
These connectors here will allow you to connect right up to your vehicle wiring. So, you'll pull this side that is currently connected on your vehicle. You'll have a wiring piece that looks like this, and you'll have to push in on this tab here to get that to pull out. And, that was one of the hardest things that I experienced, was trying to just get in there, reach back and get that pried down so I could pull it out. So, once you get that out, you'll just plug this in its place.
And then, plug the original into the other side here, so that will recomplete that circuit, so that your vehicle's tail lights will run, even if you're not connected to a trailer. You will have to ground your ground wire here. They do include a self-tapping screw to get that ground in place. You just want to make sure that it's somewhere metal on your vehicle, so that it will operate correctly. And then, your green wire will run over to your passenger side, so this will be on the driver's side, this will run over to the passenger side. Basically the same process, just unplugging your current lights, plug those in onto both locations and you're ready as far as that goes.
You will have to find a place to mount this converter box, and they do include some double-sided tape, just stick to the backside of your converter box, find a nice level place near your tail lights to get that mounted in place. And then your wiring, you can either just have it sitting in the back of your vehicle and pull it out when you're ready to use it, kind of close the trunk on it. As long as you're not in the connection point where it holds it shut, it's not going to cause any damage or anything, so it's very easy to do that. Then you do have to run the black wire up to the battery in your vehicle. For me, that was pretty easy because our RAV4 is a hybrid, so it was right in the back. But, your battery is probably going to be up in your engine compartment. So, they do give you lots of wire to run from the back of your vehicle, up to the engine compartment. And, that's really going to be the hardest part, just making sure that you get that run. They do give you zip ties to keep it up so it's not dragging on the ground, but you want to make sure that you're avoiding anything that's hot or moving, as you run it up in place. And, if you don't have a lift, that can be difficult crawling under your car, but that's really the hardest part, is just getting that wire run. Once you get up to the engine compartment, you'll put your fuse holder in place, in line, and then they give you a ring terminal to attach to your battery. And then, you can put your fuse in. So very simple process, it might sound a little bit intimidating as I'm talking about it, but I really do think that just about anybody can do it with a few simple tools, flathead screwdriver, a Phillips head screwdriver, those kinds of things. You will need some wire crimpers to get your butt connectors on, and those sort of things. But overall, very simple process, it's going to get you out on the road, pulling a trailer behind you. Now, keep in mind, this is a 4 pole wiring setup, so you are going to get this 4 pole end. I had to get an adapter because of the trailer I was pulling, was a 7 pole. So, I got an adapter from the 4 pole up to a 7 pole. It worked great for us pulling the trailer. But, we do have lots of options for you there. So, if your wiring needs are different, we do have options to adapt that for you. And, this is a great system and will easily adapt up to those other wiring setups. So overall, I'd say if you are looking at ways to pull a trailer, you obviously want to make sure that you have those lights to be legal and safe, this is going to be a great option for you.It took me probably about an hour and a half, two hours, something like that. Obviously, if you're running this wire, it might take you a little bit longer for you, but definitely a weekend project that you can do on your own. Get it all set up and you'll be ready to go, so you can pull your trailer. That's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.
