Video Transcript for Curt 2-5/16" Chrome Hitch Ball Review

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this CURT hitch ball. This is gonna be going on a ball mount platform, so you can hook up your coupler to it. Let's check it out. It's gonna be a two and 5/16-inch ball. It's gonna have an inch-thick shank diameter here, so you just drop that through the platform to attach it.

You got the lock nut and the regular nut right at the bottom. Now I'm just gonna do it hand-tighten right now. When you get this, you're gonna wanna make sure this is torqued to the specifications required. You can't just leave it loose in here and tow your trailer. You want to make sure it's really tight and torqued down before you hook up to go.

So we'll get this tightened down by hand. Now you can either do it this way or upside-down, depending on if you want to rise or drop. Either way, it's gonna work the same way. It's gonna have a weight capacity or a trailer weight rating of 10,000 pounds. It's gonna have a tongue weight rating of 1,000 pounds.

So just keep that in mind with what you're wanting to haul. Looking closer at the base here, you'll see these flat sides on the side of the ball. That's gonna be good for putting your wrench there. So when you go to torque down the bottom here, you can know you get a nice hold on it to get it really tight, to get to the specification you need to. It's gonna have a chrome-plated finish with a nickel alloy coating on the outside.

So when you leave it on the back of your vehicle all the time, the elements aren't gonna bother it. Overall, this is gonna be a good hitch ball to add to your ball mount. Just make sure that you get that shank diameter right so it's gonna fit in there, and check your trailer coupler to make sure you need that two and 5/16-inch ball. Well, here that does it. Thanks for hanging out and hope this helps.

It is as described on etrailer and looks to be of good quality. Dealing with etrailer was, as always, pleasant. Kelly, was very helpful!

by:

Product was as expected.

by:

Works as it should

by:

Needed a 12" drop hitch for my truck since it has quite a bit of lift. Not only did etrailer have the highest rated 12" drop hitch I could find but also the cheapest! I also ordered a 2 & 5/16ths ball that also rated at 10,000lbs. My boat and trailer loaded up is about 6500/7000 so this will def cover the pay load and then some. Shipping was very fast and everything was well boxed together. Would def recommend this company to anyone I knew.

by:

This trailer ball is well made, the threads are cut nicely, and it fits the trailer hitch tightly. I gave it 4 start out of 5 because it does not have a terribly heavy trailer rating considering it is a 2 5/16 ball. I understood this when I ordered it, as my trailer isn't that big, and I needed a ball with a 1 inch shank. I received very good help from the salesperson on the phone, in getting my order together. All in all a good experience.
PS Quality wise, for a 10,000# ball, this should probably be 5 start, but I gave it 4 stars because most 2 5/16 hitches are rated for far more than that, and for a bigger trailer, I wouldn't want the ball to be the weak link.

Working great

by:

The ball, ball mount and pin and clip all function nicely. The Brake controller along with the wiring harness were very easy to install. Controller applies trailer brakes smoother and more effectively than any I've ever had. Order process was easy and shipping was prompt. Very Satisfied.

by:

Used it with maxx tow adjustable height ball mount hitch also ordered from etrailer. It worked well with no issues. Came in very handy when needed. Free shipping was a big plus.

by:

Received my 12" drop and ball about two weeks ago, the shipping was phenomenal ! They got it to me in two days on standard shipping. The drop works great with my 8" lift on my f250. Town straight as a arrow, and the cushion mount Smith's out any trailer slam I have felt with in the past.

by:

Fit the Brophy class IV 10” drop hitch I ordered with it perfectly.

by:

I purchased these items one week before a Thanksgiving camping trip. I recently bought a new camper and forgot that I needed a 2 and 5/16 ball with a hitch that supports my trailer sway system. I picked 5 to 7 day shipping (foolish) and was pleased when my order was upgraded to 3 to 5 day express shipping FREE. Everything arrived 3 days before our trip and worked perfectly.

Great products and great customer service. Happy Thanksgiving to all ...

by:

Used it to tow an empty 2500lb utility trailer with my Subaru Outback from CO springs to New Mexico. Worked great on the 380 mile trip, no problems, very heavy duty construction.

by:

I needed a 2 5/8" hitch ball with a 1" shank to fit my truck and trailer. None of the local stores carried this combination. Your store had just what I wanted and the price with shipping was no more than picking one up in the store. Your on line order process was simple and I had my equipment in just a few days! I will shop here again if I have a need.

by:

All of the products are High quality, what I expected them to be. But even better, they came with-in a 24 hour period, and that was the best part of it all, because I was not expecting the parts to arrive until at least 5 days. As I said on my earlier review, I had searched around my town where I live, and could not find an inexpensive towing ball in the size that I needed for the right price, nor the friction sway control kit, and one could just forget about finding a sway control bracket. Thanks, again etrailer for such great service, which I truly thought, didn't exist anymore.

by:

This is actually the second order I have placed and normally I don't do surveys or reviews but the quality of the parts is outstanding and both orders were delivered with in in three days. I am a first time trailer owner and picked up my trailer yesterday all of the parts fit perfect and look great. The thing I really appreciate are the step by step installation videos.

What I wanted

by:

I purchased this ball to go with the AMSC 12 cushioned ball mount I purchased at the same time. I was tipped by other reviewers that this ball had a 1# shank and would be difficult to purchase elsewhere being a 2 5/16# ball rated at 10,000 lbs. I won't be using it for another month or so but glad I have it on hand so it will be there when I need it. Thanks to your other reviewer for this info

by:

Perfect. Correct hitch ball for my horse trailer thanks to these guys. Thanks for making me feel I am towing my precious cargo as safely as possible.

by:

Landed on my doorstep less than 72 hours late w free shipping. Can't ask for much more and the Curt 2 5/16" ball replaces a 15 y/o ball so I'm good for another 15+. Can't go wrong with either Curt or etrailer. Thx again.

by:

One of the few hitch balls rated at 10,000lbs... and my new trailer weighs in at 9600. Mounted cleanly. We'll find out how it works when we pick up the trailer on Saturday.

by:

I received my order very quick and all items are just as advertised. I will defantly order from e-trailer again. Prices are ok too. I am impressed with the product lines they offer.
I'll be in the market for one or two trailer brake controllers very soon.

by:

The Curt chrome Hitch Ball 2-5/16 - 10,000 pounds with a 1 inch shaft fits perfectly in my current 10,000 pound receiver. I am towing a 8,500 pound load with an Atwood Coupler. The coupler and ball fit each other without any problems.

by:

Paula and etrailer are great! I needed a higher rise hitch and Paula was great to help me return the one I purchased and get the right one ordered!!!! Thank you!!!

by:

Upgraded the trailer and needed new 2 5/6" hitch ball but have ball mounts with 1" diameter hole. This ball has 10K pound rating with the 1" diameter shank.

by:

Bought this ball to go with the BM20 hitch and it is as advertised. What else can you say about a hitch ball :)

by:

Ordered ball and new long ball mount so that I could pull my trailer with my overhead camper on truck. Ordered on a Sunday received both pieces on Wednesday shipped very quickly, both were just as advertised couldn't be happier. Would use again and recommend to everyone. Thanks Ken

  • How to Find a Ball Mount with the Right Rise or Drop to Tow a Trailer Level with a Ford F-150
Yes, it is likely supposed to be 2-5/16 since there isn't a 2-5/6 option. In order to choose the best ball mount for your new Ford F-150 and motorcycle trailer you will need to do just a little measuring. You want to be able to tow the trailer level so you have to measure for the rise or drop needed to do so. Measuring is easy. Park the truck and the trailer on level ground. Measure from the ground up to the top of the trailer hitch receiver opening. Then use the trailer jack to make the...

  • Will the Curt Chrome Hitch Ball # C40007 Fit a 3/8 Inch to 7/8 Inch Thick Ball Mount Platform
Yes, the Curt Chrome Hitch Ball, # C40007, will just barely fit on a ball mount platform that is 7/8 inch thick. If your ball mount is 7/8 inch thick, you will have 2 or 3 threads showing past the nut, but the nut would fully engage the threads on the hitch ball shank.

You would also want to use a 2" wrench for the flats on the base of the ball. We offer the 6-point hex wrench # C20001 which can be used for hitch balls with either a 1" diameter or 3/4" diameter shank.

Since this is such a custom application, you will most likely need to fabricate something as we don't have a specific adapter. You may be able to put a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball like Curt Chrome Hitch Ball # C40007 in the upper hole of the clevis hitch on your Komatsu Dozer if the pin hole is big enough for the shank of the ball. The Reese Sway Control Bracket, # RP26003, will work with 2-5/16 inch hitch balls as long as the shank of the hitch ball is no larger than 1 inch in diameter. The ball hole of the Reese bracket has a 1 inch diameter. If your current hitch ball has a shank with a diameter larger than 1 inch, then I would recommend picking up the Curt 2-5/16 inch hitch ball, # C40007, with the sway control bracket.

For a ball mount then I would recommend the # C45230 and then for a hitch ball # 40038 for a 2 inch ball or part # C40007 for a 2-5/16 inch ball. The smallest diameter shank for a 2-5/16" hitch ball is a 1" shank like for the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40007. Hitch balls with 3/4" diameter shanks are all either 2" or 1-7/8" hitch balls, so if you need to use a 2-5/16" hitch ball and your ball mount has a 3/4" diameter shank you'll need a new ball mount to go with the # C40007, like the Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 2" Rise, 4" Drop. # C93KR. The ball mount is 10-1/4 inches from the center of hitch pin hole to center of ball hole as well. For a 2 inch ball the part # 40038 would be what you need and for a 2-5/16 inch ball part # C40007.
