top quality, does rattle if no clamp installed which I got here also. I needed this as our bike would hit the back of the RV with out it.

I'm sure the product was good as etrailer is always excellent. But when we got back two of the pieces were in the box but the curt hitch extender was not. The box had a hole in it and was tapped over. Who knows what happened.

Perfect extension for the bike rack on the back of my Jeep! Quality product! Good company to work with!

by:

Very heavy duty and works superbly with the tonge stabilizer. Worth the money over less expensive products!

by:

A heavy duty hitch extension that fit perfectly in the factory installed receiver. Now I will be able to open the tailgate on my Subaru Outback without removing the bikes.

by:

Works well, allows for oversized spare tire on the back of the Jeep to clear the teardrop trailer tongue jack.

*** Packaging was horrible. Placed in a cardboard box w/ no packing material, box was destroyed on arrival, and damaged / chipped paint. If you are going to charge us for shipping at least package the product so it will not be destroyed in normal shipping ***

This hitch extender seems to be really good quality. Compared to a longer extender I bought from Harbor Freight, this one is much heavier. Shipping was a bit of a nightmare, but the etrailer team was awesome to work with to get everything squared away.

by:

The shaft length of a standard insert for a receiver hitch was too short to allow towing a 96 gallon trash can because the trash can lid was wedged against the tailgate of the ATV. The hitch extender has added sufficient length that the lid hinge can be dropped onto the trailer ball without being wedged against the tailgate.

Comments
Still working as intended with no downtime or difficulties.. also useful as an easy tiedown point when transporting the atv on a flatbed trailer.

by:

Received the 8” extension and it does exactly what I needed it to do. Matches up nicely with the Curt hitch on my SUV. Now I need not worry about how closely my trailers come to the rear end. Fast delivery and great support.

by:

This extender is solid. Had to exchange for a drop down version to clear my rear hatch on Jeep Wrangler JL.

by:

The hitch extension is heavy duty and I’m extremely happy with the quality. Service was superb and received the product in 2 days. Happy, happy, happy. Before and after photos are included.

Comments
I just wanted to provide you with a heads-up that using an extender like the # C45791 will reduce the capacity of your receiver hitch by 50 percent, as mentioned on the product page.

by:

Great. Extended my hitch just enough to keep my truck bumper from hitting my v-nose trailer. It greatly reduces the weight ratio, but length works out great.

Comments
Actually I bought a superduty and took extender out. Went with new B&W hitch on new truck. But the extender worked great on the f150
David L - 01/27/2021

by:

I got this for my side by side as the receiver was mounted too far underneath the unit to be practical. This adapter moved it out to just the right spot. I use my SxS to move my trailers around my property mostly, & it works great.

by:

have ordered and used this device before. What is disgraceful is the respect shown toward products shipped from etrailer. While the two devices/parts I ordered probably could have through a war zone without any damage, the fact is IF they are beaten out of the box while in shipping is not right. Add some appropriate packing. Grade F on your packaging.

by:

I purchased this extension to use with my front end Curt Class 3 receiver hitch. This setup was installed for use of my Warn Wench that is installed in a portable receiver cradle that I use on either the front or rear of my truck. I chose this extension because of the solid shank that made it stronger than most other I shopped. As all extensions reduce the hitch weight rating, this one provided the least amount of reduction. I am very happy with my purchase and it works as advertised.

by:

Great product, excellent website, very user friendly (the "how to" videos were especially helpful in making sure the product I was ordering was the right one), highly responsive customer relations department. The hitch extender worked correctly the first time, and fits perfectly with my new Thule bike rack (see photos). I highly recommend eTrailer!

by:

Put a receiver underneath my travel trailer and I needed to Ring the receiver out 8 inches from underneath the trailer and it fit perfect and it’s heavy duty And with the anti-rattle device I got from etrailer it works perfect.

by:

Bought a new car, and the lift gate was larger than last model. Bam! Ran right into my bike rack. So I ordered this hitch extension, and viola, the bike rack is now about 6' further out from the lift gate, and everything works great. Bonus: I don't have to manipulate the bike handlebar to open the lift gate. Excellent quality, and tight fit. I used a bolt rather than a cotter pin to attach the bike rack, as I could crank it down a bit better to reduce sway and noise.

by:

I have yet to use it because the trailer is winterized and in storage. I anticipate the extension will do the intended job.
etrailer was awesome in the customer service department since the box originally delivered was empty(no extension or anything else in the box). I called immediately and they reshipped the extension the same day. The effort on their part to make a customer happy was extraordinary!

by:

OMG This Extender is SOLID!! Bought this Curt Hitch Extender because of past Curt items purchased that I could count on. Could have purchased a hitch extension cheaper but you get what you pay for.

by:

My UTV’s hitch receiver is so far under the bed that it makes hooking up anything with a ball mount nearly impossible. Enter the Curt Hitch Extender, which provided a solid, heavy-duty extra bit of reach for my hitch. I paired it with the Curt Ball Mount for 2" ATV Hitches - 2" Ball and Clevis Bar (C44009) and I can hook up pretty much anything I need.

by:

It’s hell for stout, to be sure. I dropped 1 star because of the powder coating being chipped during shipping

by:

Works perfect for a family of 5! I also used the 8 inch extension so it would clear my 35x10.5 all terrain tire. Plenty of clearance and since the rack tilts down, it provides enough space to access the rear cargo area of my Wrangler. My family is happy that we made this purchase.

by:

needed for a plow mount on my Ram...it's PERFECT! fastest shipping ever!

  • Which 8 inch Hitch Extender has Highest Tongue Weight Capacity
The three brands you mentioned all do make 8 inch hitch extensions. The Curt is the winner in terms of capacity though as it has a 350 lb tongue weight rating. That part number is # C45791. You should note that the use of these cuts the capacity of the hitch they are installed in by 50 percent.

  • 8 Inch Hitch Extender for 2 Inch Hitch Receivers Rated for 3,500 Pounds
They aren't from Blue Ox but we do carry some 8 inch long hitch extenders for 2 inch hitch receivers. The Curt # C45791 is rated up to 3,500 pounds and measures 8 inches from hitch pin hole to hitch pin hole. The capcity of the extender is 3,500 pounds but keep in mind using a hitch extender will decrease your tongue weight capacity by 50 percent. I've linked a review video on the extender, plus the rest of the selection we carry that meets your specs as well.

  • Recommended Extra-Long Ball Mounts to Provide Better Clearance Between Truck and Trailer
A hitch extender like Curt # C45791 which fits 2-inch hitches will give you the 8-inch of additional trailer-to-truck clearance you want but at the heavy cost of taking away half of your hitch's towing capacity. All hitch adapters/extenders have this unfortunate side-effect. This occurs due to the increased leverage on the hitch tube from the extension. A better solution is to use an extra-extra-long ball mount and no adapter. You can see such items on the linked page.

  • Hitch Extender Recommendation for Towing Trailer with Truck Camper
Instead of using a tongue extender for your trailer you could use a hitch extender like the part # C45791 to basically get the same effect. This is an 8 inch extender that would work well for you. You should note that using an adapter like this will cut the capacity of the hitch on your truck in half.

  • Effect on Hitch Tongue Weight Capacity from Use of Hitch Extension
You are correct that increasing the distance between the hitch receiver and the actual load on it will also increase the leverage applied to the hitch. And this DOES indeed reduce the hitch's rated capacity. Hitch extensions, even fairly short ones like the 8-inch Curt # C45791, will cost you HALF of the hitch's rated tongue weight capacity. The physics of using adapters is more complicated than just the increased distance. Use of an adapter also allows for more motion of the suspended...

  • 8 inch Hitch Extender Recommendation for 2014 Toyota Tundra with 2-ATVs in Bed of Truck
We have the part # C45791 which is an 8 inch hitch extender. It has the capacity for your trailer as it has a 3,500 lb capacity. You should note that the towing capacity of your hitch gets cut in half when using an extender like this. But since you have a towing capacity of 9,800 lbs that won't be a problem at all.

  • Using a Hitch Extender for a Cargo Carrier on a 2015 Roadtrek
Technically speaking, a hitch extender like the Curt part # C45791 will fit. However, using an extender lowers your hitche's tongue weight by 50 percent so you will be limited on how much weight you carry. In addition to this, accessories on the back of an RV experience a lot more movement and therefore stress than normal. So not only will your weight capacity be lowered but you're also are going to experience a lot of movement on the hitch. So I don't recommend using an extender for...

  • Recommendation For Hitch Extender To Carry Thule Apex Bike Rack With 2018 Jeep Rubicon JL
Before I can recommend a hitch extension, I need to find out the actual extension needed. You will need to measure from the hitch pin hole to the rear edge of your spare tire to see how much length is needed for clearance of your 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited. You will then need to determine the clearance needed by your bike rack by measuring the distance from center of hitch pin hole to the closest part of the bike rack. The difference is the extension size that you need (see article)....

The Curt Hitch Extender part # C45791 will only reduce the tongue weight (TW) capacity of the vehicle's hitch, not the gross trailer weight (GTW). The tongue weight capacity will be reduced to 350 lbs or 50% of the vehicle's tongue weight, whichever is lower. I have attached a review video of this hitch extender for you as well.

  • Can Hitch Extender Be Used with Small Trailer Towing Lawn Equipment
The deal with hitch extenders is that they cut the capacity of the hitch they are installed in by 50 percent due to the added length and leverage. If your tow vehicle has twice the towing capacity as what your trailer will weigh this adapter part # C45791 would work well. This adapter by itself has a capacity of 3,500 lbs so the adapter would easily work on a 2,500-3,000 lb trailer.

  • Using a Hitch Extender When Towing Small John Boat
So here's the deal with hitch extenders. Using an extender like the # C45791 will lower the hitch tongue weight capacity (maximum allowable weight bearing down on the hitch) by half, because the extender moves the load rearward by 8 inches which increases the leverage placed on the hitch and its attachment points to the vehicle.
