Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side rear access panel. You will have to remove the floor covering, rear cargo area cover, and scuff panel to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

I used this kit on a 2019 Rav4 Hybrid Limited. The wires from the left turn signal to the control box were too short of allow mounting to the the floor. I had to remove a speaker box to run the wire behind it and mount the control box. Since the wires wouldn't reach the floor I mounted the box to the wall behind the speaker, mistake, the box fit too close to the wall to allow room for the controller. I wound up mounting the controller the the lower left portion of the speaker box. After that everything went well.
Would have given 5 stars if wires had been a little longer
I watched a couple of YouTube videos on installing the Curt trailer wiring harness in a Rav4 which were especially helpful for how to remove trim panels. Ordered the harness from Etrailer which was delivered in just a few days. I installed the very well made kit this morning in 3 hours taking time to carefully wiretie at frequent intervals, route and secure along panels with Gorilla tape. All back together and works like a charm.
Wiring worked. The install video was very helpful. However, before running the wire to the battery along the bottom of the vehicle, make sure there is a good path. My Rav is completely enclosed on the bottom so it was difficult to secure the wire. Great product and everything you need to complete the project is included.
The kit was very easy to install and work out great. But when I went on line at etrailer today before I installed it I saw the price was $XX less than I paid less than a week ago. Not sure why it was dropped but disappointed I paid $XX more than I should have.
Great company to deal with….. excellent order follow up…. Purchased Curt hitch from Etrailer and Yakima bike rack…. All very good products… this will complete the bicycle hauling setup on the back of our RAV4.
Great product. Installed in 2021 Rav4 Prime SE. The etrailer video was excellent - watch it, then watch it again, and keep it open on your phone while doing the install. I used an inexpensive set of interior trim removal tools that helped get the cargo area opened up. I followed the standard instructions exactly but made these two things different because the Prime is a little different than the Hybrid in the video. First, for the ground I used the available M6 weld nut on the driver side near the bottom - check out the photo. Your model may have something in there, but on mine it was not being used and I had an M6 bolt in my work area so I used it. I also hooked up the ground from my 7-pin to be secured here as well. The second difference is that I used the grommet from the spare tire well just inside the latch. Under the heat shield, this area is not going to see much if any water, but I still sealed it up with silicone. I was skeptical of the use of packaging tape in the video to secure the wires, but it has so far worked out great.
This makes wiring for a trailer very easy. The hardest part is doing a good job hiding the wiring. As for the wiring process itself, it couldn't be easier or quicker. Love these kits and get one with every hitch.
Hybrid Rav 4 install.
The kit is nice and has all the appropriate pieces.. Kinda.
This probably would have taken all of 15 min had I not had to fix a few issues and use other connectors & wire not included in kit.
* The Driver side wire cluster was too short to allow the box to be mounted to the floor. I mounted mine on the wheel well. This made the
*Ground wire too short & the small self tapper is horrible.
* I extended my wire by a few inches and mounted it to an existing bolt ( see photo)
*Hybrid models - Battery is in the same location as passenger tail lights.
* I ran my power & passenger brake wires up and around under the plastics and zip tied to existing wires. I personally rather have them completely out of the way. ( see photo)

Installation was easy and lighting has worked fine. The installation videos were very helpful.
Worked perfectly for my 2019 RAV4 XLE. I installed this in addition to a brake controller for a full 7-pin connector and they worked very well together. This 4-pin kit definitely makes the install easy, and etrailer's video tutorial for it is spot on!
The whole package worked great, and the install video was perfect. I had a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid, so it was simple to connect the power wire as the battery was in the rear. I watched a few videos such as from Uhaul and others, but yours was the most appropriate and best for location of where to stick the converter box, where to attach the ground wire, and to see the tester at the end. By the way, you really do need a wire crimper, as the integrity of the circuit depends on it, so don't even think that needle nose pliers will do the job. A wire crimper/stripper/cutter ($10) was the only tool I needed to buy to do the job. I did not need to lower the muffler system as some videos showed, to attach the Drawtite/Reese Class II hitch. Etrailer is the place for one-stop shopping and very fast shipping! Very happy with the result.
I have not installed the harness yet but I am sure it will do the job well.
I just installed the wiring kit on my 2019 RAV4. I watched the video that was excellent and helped with the install. Everything went as showed in the video. Instead of using the double sided taped I had Velcro so I used that. Also instead of running the wire to the battery I hooked into my cigarette lighter I had in the back.
It was easier the putting the hitch on the same vehicle.

the video makes it look pretty snappy to install. Running the power wire up to the front of the truck is a giant pain in the butt and I opted to go against curt and power it with the accessory plug power circuit in the trunk wall. It only powers the lights when the truck is in the accy or on position, but there are very few situations where i see that being a problem. The provided double sided tape was very old and dried out and didnt stick to anything in a meaningful way. just stuffed the control box between the plastic panel and its insulation to keep it from rattling around. does what its supposed to do without a bunch of hacking into your cars wiring.
even though the box was destroyed hitch, parts, directions and wiring kit were all in tact......had put one of these on a previous van....excellent....
This is the second time I have purchased a tow wiring harness. The first one was used on my 2019 RAV4 hybrid and this was is for my new 2022 RAV4 hybrid. Installation instructions and video give you all the support needed to confidently install this product for years of fault-free operation!
This wiring harness has been a fabulous addition to my SUV. It continues to perform as needed when towing my trailer. I especially like that the electronics assist does not put unnecessary strain on my electrical system.
This worked perfectly for our RAV4 Prime. I recommend watching an install video on one of the RAV4 forums just for removing the interior trim panels. It helps to know where the clips are to avoid breakage, and the instructions weren't super clear on that part. Other than that, the instructions were spot-on.
Exact fit, just a bit trickier if you have the factory subwoofer in rear panel over the drop down grommet.

Super easy to install in my 2020 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid. I didn't have any special tools. I did learn the hard way how to remove those 2 round push tabs on the inside of the upper side panels, i scratched up one side pretty bad. What you need is a large flat tip screw driver, tuck it behind the inner circle and twist to pop it out. Don't try to pry at the thing or you'll ruin it like i did. Also i decided to keep my plug inside the car with the spare tire but after using it once and opening and closing the door a lot i think i might rather have it stored outside to avoid crimping the wires too much. Soon I'll change it by cutting it off, feeding it through the grommet hole and strapping it under the bumper somewhere instead. Other than that, the instructional video helped a lot! Shipping was fast. Lights are very bright and everything works perfectly. I am very happy with my purchase.
Watch the company videos on installation and it goes like a breeze. I used my Rav 4 and hitch to tow my 14' boat 1000 miles without a problem. I installed the lighting and it was perfect too

Have used the hitch a number of times. It has performed beautifully with no problems at all. Would highly recommend this version. Clear instructions. Pretty easy install. Video tutorial very worthwhile. I am keeping the 4-flat in the spare tire well rather than routing thru the floor because I think it looks neater.
