Video Transcript for Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Installation - 2021 Genesis GV80

Hi there, Genesis owners. Today on your 2021 Genesis GV80 we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install Curt's Class 3, 2-inch trailer hitch receiver. Now this is what our hitch looks like when it's installed. The cross tube is gonna be hidden completely behind the bumper. So you're only gonna notice the receiver tube here sticking out the back. It's a class three, 2-inch by 2-inch receiver so it's gonna be great for all of your towing needs whether you're wanting to put a cargo carrier in here and get some gear out of your vehicle or take some bikes to the trail or even just get some work done.

Hook a trailer up to the back or maybe take a camper to the lake for the weekend. This hitch uses a 5/8-inch hitch pin and clip. Now one doesn't come included with the hitch but we've got plenty of available here at etrailer. We also have locking ones so you can protect your investment. On bottom here we have vertical plate style safety chain loops and these do hang down a little bit low but they should have a decent enough opening to accommodate just about every shape, size, and style of chain.

We've got our large ones here and those work just fine as well as our small ones. This hitch features a 900 pound tongue weight and that's the force going down on top of the receiver and that's more than enough for a cargo carrier fully loaded up to the max. You can get the largest one here at etrailer and have no problem getting that in there and that'll be more than enough for any trailer that you're wanting to haul here with your hitch. It also offers a 6,000 pound gross towing capacity which is how much that it can pull behind it and with 6,000 pounds you could easily haul a trailer, a camper. You could do a lot of stuff with that.

You have a boat, you could bring that along with you. So this hitch should just about meet just about all of your needs. Now I've got some measurements for you to help you when deciding on accessories. From the ground to the top and center of our receiver tube it measures about 12 and a half inches. This is important when determining if you need a drop, a rise, or raised shank on any of your accessories.

And since this one is so low I do recommend a raised shank on your accessories. We also have another clearance point here at the bottom due to the vertical safety chains. And it looks like it's about eight and a half inches from the ground to the bottom here. So you just want to pay attention to that when you're if you're taking this thing out on any trails or anything like that. And from the center of our hitch pin hole to the edge of our rear bumper we're measuring right at about five inches. This is important when determining if your accessories will contact the bumper when inserted into the receiver tube. And if that can be placed in the upright storage position without contacting the bumper. Now that we've covered some of the features of our hitch, why don't you follow along with me and we'll show you how to get it installed to give you the confidence to do it at home. We'll begin our installation underneath the vehicle by removing the bezels around our exhaust. You'll need a 10 millimeter socket and there are two nuts located just under the bumper straight up that we'll need to remove. We can then take the strap out of the way and set it aside. And we're gonna do the same thing over on the other side. Next, we're going to put a strap in place underneath the vehicle for our exhaust here. So we're going to be lowering that down some but we don't want it to lower down too far to where it's going to damage anything. So we'll put that in place, tighten it up a little bit. And then we're going to remove the exhaust hangers. I'm using a little bit of silicone spray to make it easier to remove the hanger. And then we're just going to pry it off of there. You could also pry it off in this direction as well, whichever one you find to be easier. Typically though it's usually easier to go with the outside. We'll then do that on the other side as well. And if we go just in front of our rear suspension right there you're going to see that there's one here as well as on the other side that we're also going to remove. So now that we've got all those loose, we can loosen our strap up a bit to lower our exhaust down, just enough to where we can get our hitch into place. We are going to have to pull our bumper down some to get it into place. So just carefully get it down to where you've got enough room to feed it up in there. On each side, if we look just up on the side of the frame we're going to have a couple of foam pads. We're going to just peel those off of there. And that's going to reveal the weld nuts below. Just take your screwdriver and clean that out. And you want to do this on the other side as well. So that way we can get all of our hardware fed in. Next we're going to lift our hitch into position but I find it easier to prepare your hardware first. So take each of your bolts and put the conical tooth washers on them with the teeth facing away from the head of the bolt like this. Now with the next set of hands we're going to lift it into position. You may need to pull down on the bumper a bit to get it to clear. Once you get it up above the exhaust, you'll just want to lift it up and line up the slotted holes with the holes that are pre-existing in the frame and then we'll want to get a bolt started inside there. Once we get a bolt started on each side the hitch will hold itself up, making it easier to install the rest of our hardware. Once you've got all of your bolts installed, we can go back and tighten them down with a 19 millimeter socket. You might notice this one here, we've got a bumper alignment pin that's in our way. I'm just gonna take a socket with an extension. I'm going to slide it on that alignment pin. And I'm just gonna pull down. We'll do the same thing on the other side to get those tightened down. And then we can go back and torque our hardware to the specifications found in our instructions. Now that we've got our hitch fully torqued down, we can just reinstall our exhaust in the reverse order of how to remove it. We're just gonna slide those hangers back on and then we also want to make sure we put our bezels back on. Lastly, we can remove our strap and we're now ready to load up our vehicle with our favorite accessories and hit the road. And that completes our installation of Curt's Class 3, 2-inch trailer hitch receiver on our 2021 Genesis GV80..

Good design. Installation was straightforward. I would recommend adding a seven-pin trailer mount to to hitch to accommodate the trailer wiring harness/plug available from Genesis. I found suitable mounting hardware at a local RV dealer/parts house.

  • Trailer Receiver Hitch for 2021 Genesis GV80 AWD
Yes we have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C84UR. It is custom fit for your Genesis GV80 and requires no drilling or welding. If you are going to require a 4-way for lighting I suggest our Upgraded Circuit Protected Powered Tail Light Converter # C59496. It is a much better solution to help protect the tail light circuits.

  • How To Use A 5 Pin Boat Trailer Adapter On A 2021 Genesis GV80
The 2021 Genesis GV80 may already have a 4 pin trailer adapter installed from the dealer and you can convert it to a 5-pin. If it does not have a 4 pin already, then you will need to install the Curt Tail Light Converter 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236. This will splice into the taillight wiring on your vehicle, and there will be a few more wires to run (power and ground wires). I have attached a demonstration video for this kit. Once you have a 4-pin installed, you will need...

  • Draw Tite Hitch for 2022 Genesis GV80
Draw-Tite hasn't test fit the # DT49GR hitch on a 2021 Genesis GV80 as of yet, however the Curt # C84UR which has an identical bolt pattern and hitch drop (distance between top of mounting flange and top of receiver tube), fits both the 2021 and 2022 models. Because of this, it would be extremely safe to assume that the Draw-Tite # DT49GR would carry over to the 2022 Genesis GV80.

  • What 3-Bike Rack do You Recommend for My 2021 Genesis GV80?
I have a great bike transporting solution for you. Unfortunately, I confirmed with Thule that the OutWay 3 # TH56BV does not fit on your 2021 Genesis GV80. Currently, Thule (or any other bike rack manufacturer) does not make a trunk-mounted bike rack solution for your GV80. The best way route forward is to install a hitch and use a hitch-mounted bike rack. For the hitch, I recommend the Curt Hitch - 2" # C84UR. This hitch comes with a completely hidden design that conceals any unsightly...
