Features:

  • Prolongs life of transmission
  • Improves overall performance
  • Prevents heat-related failures
  • Has furnace-brazed aluminum construction and 1-1/4" wide turbulator plates for more efficient cooling
  • Includes complete mounting kit, OEM spec hose with stainless steel clamps, Insta-dapt radiator adapter and hose-barb fittings
  • Recommended for full-size trucks and SUVs

Specs:

  • Inlets: 1/2" NPT
  • Fittings: 1/2" NPT x 3/8" hose barb
  • Overall dimensions: 11" wide x 8-7/8" tall x 1-1/4" deep
  • Distance between inlets: 8-7/8"
  • Mounting dimensions: 6-3/4" wide x 8" tall
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: The Derale Insta-dapt radiator adapter fits most vehicles with 5/16" transmission lines, but not all. In some cases, additional fittings or alteration of the OEM lines or hoses may be required for installation.

One of the more popular cooling systems available, the radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger provides increased surface area so that fluids can spread out along the finned chambers to cool faster. In addition to the increased surface area, this cooler also features turbulator technology, whereby fluids are agitated continuously, not only to facilitate heat transfer, but also to prevent any undesirable drop in pressure.

My vehicle originally did not have a transmission cooler. After warming up, my transmission temperature would typically be 100 degrees higher than the ambient air temperature, whether moving or stopped. Towing the largest enclosed U-Haul trailer (6'x12') would raise the temperature to about 120 degrees above ambient. After adding this cooler, the transmission stays about 70 degrees higher than the ambient air temperature on the highway, and 80-85 degrees above ambient while parked or driving in slow traffic. I haven't towed that same U-Haul trailer since adding the cooler, but towing a much larger (8.5'x20') enclosed trailer raises the temperature to about 110 degrees above ambient. If you can find a spot the cooler will physically fit, it should work for your vehicle. You may have to get creative to solidly mount it. I used an angle grinder to remove part of a factory brace. When doing work in this area of your vehicle, be careful not to puncture the AC condenser! If you do, like I did, you will have to replace it. Some AutoZone locations will rent a vacuum pump and manifold gauge set. Doing your own repair means the total repair cost is only the sum of the new AC condenser and refrigerant. The inlet/outlet NPT fittings on this cooler need to be tighter than you think. I was worried about stripping the threads, and didn't tighten them enough at first. I ended up removing my bumper cover multiple times to tighten them until they stopped leaking. I found the best way to detect a leak was to zip-tie a folded paper towel below the fitting. If it turned red, there was a leak. For my application, I would have preferred built-in 3/8" hose barb inlets instead of the 1/2" NPT fittings.

Pretty easy to install. Worked great. Prior to adding this transmission cooler my transmission temps would routinely go over 200F so before I installed the cooler I had my transmission serviced. Thankfully no issues or burnt ATF. After installation the temps never went over 190F even towing in the south Louisiana heat. Great product and I'd buy again if needed.

2006 GMC 1500

2006 GMC 1500 This product is solidly designed and the installation kit well thought out. The connection hose was heavier and better quality than what the auto parts store could provide. I will be adding additional clamps to the connections so there are two on each just as a precaution against leakage. The single clamps are working well for my test period. I fabricated brackets for mine but using the plastic pins would work just as well. It is a huge improvement over the factory cooler. I would recommend it to anyone that is towing near or at truck capacity.

Comments
The cooler is working flawlessly. I replaced the clamps with 12 PEX pipe crimps for a better seal. The transmission has operated within safe temps while towing 7000 lbs on I-70 over the Rocky Mountains. It is a worthy product!

2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Installed on a 2005 Chevy Suburban 5.3 V8 and took about 2 hours from start to finish. Installation was simple and was able to mount on the A frame in front of the radiator. Installation instructions was clear and was helpful with determine the supply and return lines. Fittings matched up perfect with no need to change out. I had to purchase another 4' of hose but the cooler was a lot simpler to install than I had expected.

2009 Chevrolet Tahoe

Installed I about an hour in my ‘09 Tahoe. Been in for a week now and lowered the tranny temp an average of 15-20 degrees. I definitely needed the extra hose that was suggested in other reviews. I actually, accidentally, ordered 2 extra so or goes on my “overs” shelf. No trailer hauling yet but will be pulling a 8x16, 4000lb about 2 hours on Friday. That’s my real test.

Product really works well drop trans temp on Silverado from 160 to 125 degrees F. Could not find additional 11/32" tubing so Used 3/8" trans hose for connection- worked fine. Also I mounted on side with inlet at bottom to maximize cooling.

Review from a similar Series 9000 in Transmission Coolers

Easy to install and has worked great on my '06 4Runner v6. A little extra piece of mind for the mountains. This size just barely fits on the passenger side of the radiator - there is a central, vertical support bar behind the grill that prevents a wider cooler from fitting.

Review from a similar Series 9000 in Transmission Coolers

This Transmission cooler really works well. It keeps my transmission much cooler while towing heavy trailers. I connected it in series with the factory coolers for a lower operating temperature. If towing or hauling heavy loads I recommend this plate cooler. Also plates remove more heat than tubes.

Comments
This cooler is great. The transmission even towing rarely ever gets above 150 degrees. Heat is the main cause of transmission failure and fluid turning to varnish. Highly recommend this cooler.

Review from a similar Series 9000 in Transmission Coolers

This was easy to mount in front of the radiator, and connections were correct to run as 2nd trans cooler for Armada, towing 6500lbs. Immediate change to about 15-20 degrees on long uphill climbs. Just need to inform the tranny guys that it takes more fluid whenever you get a change.

Review from a similar Series 9000 in Transmission Coolers

Parts arrived fast and in good condition. My setup needs recessed mounting, and I must use the cooler's bolt holes for proper clearence and support. Supplied plastic ties and foam are not quite enough for a secure mounting, and the supplied hose barb fittings are nice aluminum, but I need a 1/2" barb end, not 3/8". These little things are no problem. I'm happy and will buy from e-trailer again.

Review from a similar Series 9000 in Transmission Coolers

Packaging was damaged but no damage to cooler due to solid construction. Had done online searches for installation tips and suggestions. All very beneficial. However, this cooler is larger than many I saw online and I had to find an alternate installation location. I was able to find a suitable location in front of radiator and minor modification (drilled two additional mounting holes in mount bracket and trimmed one corner for clearance.) Overall has shown lower transmission operating temps. Have not towed since installation and hope that lower temps carry over to towing a load. I give this product, shipping, and customer service a thumbs up.

  • What is the Difference Between Class IV and V Transmission Coolers
The higher the Class of transmission cooler the more efficient it is and the more cooling capabilities it has. Basically, the Class of a cooler is supposed to reflect the Class trailer hitch you have. So if you have a Class III hitch you would use a Class III cooler. But you can use any cooler that you want and going with the largest or most efficient cooler that will fit is actually recommended because transmission fluid cannot be over cooled. • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2019 Nissan Frontier
If so equipped, the factory transmission cooler would either be a separate unit sitting in front of the existing radiator, right behind the grille or you might have a dual-core radiator that has two separate zones or cores, one for the transmission fluid and another for engine coolant. Historically, Nissan has used the dual-core type radiator, but I'm unsure of the later models like yours. You should be able to find the supply and return lines from the transmission, simply follow them to...

It's not required to install a supplemental transmission cooler for towing on most vehicles but it's certainly not a bad idea either as it will help prolong and extend the life of the transmission. • Why Install Transmission Cooler in Return Line Back To Transmission
When it comes to transmission coolers, unless you live in an extremely cold climate you can't over cool a transmission. Most vehicles will have a stock transmission cooler, it'll either have a separate heat exchanger or it'll have a cooling circuit in the vehicle's radiator. This typically does a pretty decent job unless the vehicle is being pushed to its limits by towing near its capacity or in hilly areas.
