Today on our 2009 Ford Escape, we're going to be test fitting the Rhino-Rack roof rack system. This is going to be consisting of part numbers RRVA126B-2, these are the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars in black, 49 inches long. These also come in silver as part number RRVA126S-2. We'll also be using part number RRRLKVA. These are the 2500 Series Legs for the Vortex Aero Crossbars. Then part number DK099 and this is the Custom Fit Kit for this particular vehicle.
This is what's going to be clamping it on to your vehicle. We have our front one already installed. You can see the bar has a nice aerodynamic shape to it and that's going to cut down wind noise and drag while you're driving. The end caps themselves are locked into place with a given tool. Also, your legs are locked into place with this cover here. This is going to keep it secure to your roof once you have it installed.
Combined with the rear crossbar, this has a carrying capacity of 165 pounds, although you want to double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure your roof can withstand that kind of weight. Let's go ahead and show you how the rear one installs. We already have it partially assembled on our table here. What we'll do first, is we'll actually take the bar, kind of flip it upside down and then we'll take our leg, which as you can see here has this metal piece at the top, this bracket. This actually slides into the t-slot in our crossbar. We'll just line it up the right way and slide it on.
Now to keep it in place I'll go ahead and reinstall our end cap and that piece that I spoke about earlier is this and that'll just lock it into place so it can't be removed. Next we'll take rubber pad for our foot and you want to make sure and line it up with the other one that the arrow on this pad is facing forward. Pop that in. All right. Next we'll actually measure for our space on our bar from this point to our leg. You're going to find these measurements in the instructions.
Now normally you would have like a strip that you place in here, cut to length so you don't have to worry about measuring it. However for demonstration purposes, we'll go ahead and just measure it out. Again you'll find this measurement in your instructions. Always double check there before you finally tighten everything down. Then we'll take our included tightening tool and tighten on the bolt on the bottom of our leg right there. Let me double check that measurement, make sure everything is where it's supposed to be. That's looking good. Finally, we'll install our clamp. We'll just go ahead and take out this screw here. Line up our holes and reinstall. All right with that done we can actually set this on our roof. We'll first open up our rear doors. We'll set it in place and then we'll get our measurement for our crossbar spread. That's going to be from center of the bar to center of the bar. You'll find this measurement as well in your instructions. All right. Next we'll make sure they're kind of sitting on the roof even here. Push that a little over that way. That's good. Now we can start tightening things down. Now how we tighten these down is a little different. For example, most vehicles will just have this bare portion here that this will clamp into, but here you can see we have this rubber strip. You just pull that down, just a little bit and kind of push our clamp in between that and the strip. Let's get it loosely tightened for now. We'll repeat this on the other side too. Once we get these loosely tightened, we'll go ahead and go back and forth in tying these down evenly. About 5 or 6 turns each until it's completely tightened down. All right. Now some things you can actually put on this roof rack, quite a few. There's bike racks, ski carriers, snowboard carriers, roof baskets, enclosed cargo boxes and even water sport carriers such as kayaks and canoes. Although you always want to double check your weight to make sure you're not overdoing it for your bars or your roof. One thing I'd like to point out while I'm tightening this down. You'll see that this tool here has this curve on the end of it. Once this is actually fully tightened down, this will straighten out as your tightening it, to let you know that you have reached its torque setting. Like you see right there. All right. Our final step is to put our covers on and then we'll be ready to hit the road. There you have it. For the Rhino-Rack roof rack system on our 2009 Ford Escape. .

This custom fit kit lets you mount 4 Rhino-Rack 2500 legs to your vehicle with a naked roof. Clamps mount to legs with bolts. Includes 4 clamps and 4 pads. This Rhino system was fantastic. Held really well and was fairly easy to adjust to fit the car well. Very impressed with the product.
We had ordered roof racks for kayaks and if all worked well the first year. The second year one of the brackets that attached the kayak to rack so the kayak would fall. It was under warranty and I contacted the company and they had us send them the whole rack and they up on new parts and mailed it back. It has worked fine since. They stood behind their product.
I ordered these racks for my 2011 Mazda Tribute w/ a naked roof. The quality and ease of assembly was remarkable. I use the racks for loading surfboards (longboards 9 ft to 10 ft.) and they are exactly what I needed!!! I would highly recommend this product. The helpful folks at etrailer.com were great. The product arrived on time with no hassles and the price was less than the factory system which was far less robust. Cheers.
Mounting was simple and it is still working as advertised 1 year later.
Looks good. Easy to assemble
WORKED PERFECT THANKS , FIT AND WAS EASY TO INSTALL

Installed this and 65" Vortex Areo crossbars on a 2015 RAM 5500 chassis cab/crew cab. It is listed to fit 1500 to 3500 RAM's and neither Rhino-Rack or etrailer would confirm it would fit the 5500. My research suggested there was not much, if any difference, between the 3500 and 5500 crew cab, so ordered it any way. Installation was relatively easy, fit seemed to be good and have made multiple 200-300 mile trips with a 75lb kayak. Good price, great customer service and fast delivery through etrailer.

The rack was fairly easy to mount on my Durango. I was able to load my kayak from the side since I have a bike rack on the rear. I use a bathroom rug and flip the boat up on the car, then slide the boat directly onto the rack. I only carry it this way for short drives to local lakes. There is some wind noise at 50 mph.

We originally got this rack system (Custom DK Fit Kit for 4 Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack Legs - Naked Roof Item #DK427) mostly for our Kayak racks on our 2015 Ford F-150, which worked great. Then we totaled our F-150 and the racks actually fit on our new 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 HD P/U. We took it on a 16,000 mile trip from the East Coast to Alaska with both 12 ft. kayaks on the top. Through the various speeds (sometimes up to 80 mph), weather conditions, and the high crosswinds of the mid-West, the racks help up perfectly. No issues or problems. I would recommend these to anyone.

I've had this Rhino Rack 2500 series for one year. I've outfitted the rack with one "J hook" style kayak holder and one "cradle" kayak holder. I am able to securely travel with two kayaks on the roof of my 2014 Honda Civic sedan without issue. During the one year I've had this rack I've traveled over 1,000 miles with two 12 foot+ kayaks on my roof. I can set cruise control at 70mph and not worry about the rack failing. I rate it four (4) stars because the cradles will sometimes move during a long drive and have to be readjusted. This is something that is more cosmetic in the since it looks slightly off, however it does not affect the racks security.

Fairly easy installation. Read the instructions thoroughly before hand and get familiar with the parts. Take care when installing mounting studs onto car itself so as not to strip or cross thread them. Once installed they look great.

After a year the rack has stood the test of time and daily use. I've set it properly and for the most part forgotten about it. I've used the rack to haul a ton of furniture properly tied down to my sedan's roof.Ive also postponed getting a larger car by gaining space in the roof box. I still recommend this product.

Fit my Honda CRV perfectly and the whole kit was easy to install. The cargo box I ordered for in the racks perfectly. Of course there was some noise when traveling, and also reduced gas mileage, but that is to be expected. The very slight whistle when driving at higher speeds was easy to tune out. Service from etrailer was great and shipping was quick! I also appreciate all of the information and tutorials available. Would order from this company again.

I bought these to be able to haul 4 kayaks on the roof of my 2017 Ram Mega cab while pulling our fifth wheel. We have use the Rhino Rack several times including a trip from Kentucky to Montana and back with no issues. I highly recommend the Rhino Rack for extra cargo capacity on top of your pickup. The instructions were good and installation was pretty straight forward. I plan to take the system off in the winter which will be easy to do.

Bought these in order to carry my snowboarding gear around northern Maine, Toyota didn't have racks for my car so I bought from here. Having them on for about 10 months I haven't had a single problem and are as strong as they were when I first put them on.

I bought this last yr to haul my kayaks on my Toyota camry. Being 5'2", getting them on top of my SUV was next to impossible for me and my daughters. Since then, I have traveled from Michigan, all the way to the west coast with two 13' ft kayaks. These racks have been absolutely perfect in every aspect. I mounted them myself, and checked them regularly to see if they needed adjusted. Not once did they loosen or move. They with stood Traveling with speed limits reaching 80 mph on I84, along with the windy weather on our cross-country trip. My car moved around from the high winds, and the racks stayed put. These racks have by far reached and surpassed every expectation I had when purchasing them. I would not recommend another. Only thing I would recommend is showing installation for both front and back bars, since the measurements are slightly different for both. As I had to figure this out my self, after watching the installation video. Thank you Rhino for providing such a high quality product.

Great product. I put the removable racks and brackets on my car as soon as I received them in the mail and have not removed them since. They are used everyday to hold my Yakima rooftop box.

From the minute Erica, from etrailer answered the phone and took my order, the process of getting my new Rhino-Rack 2500 was easy. Once my auto body shop installed the rack, I saw what a quality product the Rhino-Rack 2500 is. It fits my 2017 Toyota Corolla like it was from the factory. It looks great on the car and the functionality is excellent. I love it and highly recommend etrailer and Rhino-Rack products

As you can tell by the photo, they never came. Thank you [vendor] for having a tow hitch basket in stock. They saved the day as my other storage option did not arrive, even with the additional $$ paid for faster shipping.

I’ve never had a Rhino Rack before. Much of the rack is plastic, but seems secure and looks nice. I’m grateful, because this is the only rack built to fit my Toyota Rav 4 . It’s not noisy and doesn’t seem to affect my mileage

Solid and sturdy. Installation was a little tricky but instructions are clear and plenty of [online] videos to help.

Very impressed with this rack system so far! Was hesitant at first based on some reviews talking about wind noise, but with the windows up I can hear almost no difference. The noise isolating strips are inside the rack after removing the end cap, so be sure to give them a good shake before assuming they are missing (as per the instructions). Very sturdy and assembled easily.

Thanks to etrailer, I am ready to do some serious summer exploring with my 2013 Mazda 3! Rhino Racks, Malone top box, and Kuat bike rack!

Very well built. Instructions are easy to follow and the whole unit feels very solid. I bought this for a last minute trip so we could bring our kayaks with us when the truck bed was full of stuff. The brackets are lined with rubber and the roof brackets have rubber feet so there won't be any paint damage once I remove the rack. Overall im very happy with this set of crossbars. The kayak rack is from another retailer.

Mounted on 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD. Excellent fit. Looks clean on truck. Sturdy. Small amount of noise. I would buy again and recommend to others. Price far better than some of the big names for the same quality.
