Specs:
A trailer jack is designed to lift the tongue of your trailer so you can connect the trailer coupler to your hitch ball. To do this, you'll need a jack with a lift capacity high enough to handle your trailer's tongue weight.
Tongue weight is the amount of weight that your trailer applies to the back of your tow vehicle. Typically, your tongue weight should be 10-15% of your total trailer weight (trailer + cargo). In other words, a 10,000-lb trailer would have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. For a trailer this size, you would need a jack with a lift capacity of at least 1,500 lbs.
It's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher lift capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time camping.
Every jack offers a certain amount of lift or travel. Screw travel is the distance the jack extends when you crank it (or toggle it to "extend" on an electric model). Some jacks include a drop leg for extra adjustability. On these jacks, you'll see the maximum extension of the drop leg listed in the specs as well. Adding the screw travel and drop leg travel together will give you the total lift. The total lift listed above can help you determine how high this jack will be able to raise your trailer.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Marine Trailer Jack with Caster Wheel. This is going to bolt on to your trailer's frame, and will allow you to raise and lower your boat trailer or recreational trailer. This is gonna have a durable steel construction with a zinc-plated finish for corrosion resistance, so it is gonna hold up really well even in your marine environments. This does have a weight capacity of 1,000 pounds, thanks to that sturdy steel construction. And you can see, this does have a four hole bolt plate that's going to allow you to easily mount this onto your trailer's square tongue, up to three inches thick and up to five inches tall.
This does also have this convenient swivel pin that's going to allow you to pull that out and swivel your jack up. So it's going to lock into place, so that you can store this in the horizontal position while you're traveling, and then very easily pull that pin out again, this will pull it down, and you're ready to engage your jack. This does have a clearance have about 9 3/8 of an inch from the top of your mounting bracket to the top of your jack, so keep that in mind when you're determining where to mount this, so you wanna make sure that it's not gonna be in the way if you we're to lower your tailgate, you don't wanna cause any damage to your tailgate landing on that. This does have a heavy duty eight inch diameter by two inch wide caster wheel that's going to resist flat spots and cracking while you're moving your boat around, so that you can very easily maneuver it into your garage or wherever it is that you're gonna store it. This does have the sidewind design with the ergonomic handle grip here that's gonna be very easy to use, you don't have to let go, it'll just spin in your hand as you're raising and lowering your jack.
This is gonna give you about 10 inches of travel as your two inch diameter outer tube slides up on your 1 3/4 inch diameter inner tube. Your bracket height, when it's fully retracted like it is now, it's gonna be about 16 1/2 inches tall, when you have it fully extended, it's gonna go up to approximately 26 3/8 of an inch. So you are gonna have just slightly less than 10 inches of travel, but right about 10 inches. And this is going to work great for your tongue heights that are up to 25 inches tall. So very easy to get connected and to maneuver, to raise and lower.
This is made here in the USA, so you can trust it's made to the high quality standards that we've come to know and trust for products that are made here in the US, so it's gonna do a great job for you, hold up really well. They do include all the hardware that you're gonna need to get this mounted onto your trailer's frame. So if you are looking for a simple jack with caster wheel for your boat trailers or other recreational trailers, this is gonna be a great option for you. We do have other options available as well, so if you need a different weight capacity, a different height, anything like that, be sure to check out some of those other options. That's gonna complete our look for today.
Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

Handle has cushioned grip. This jack replaces a Dutton jack that must be at least 30 years old and exclusively in a salt water environment. The older jack was structurally perfect but for the handle which rusted and finally snapped. Unable to replace the handle, I ordered the replacement. I expect the new one will perform handle equally well. The eight inch wheel and caster is a plus, since the 14’ Maritime Skiff must be positioned by hand at times.
The team at etrailer were professional and on top of things from beginning to end!! Thank you etrailer

Plenty of beef for my 21 foot Key West. Much stronger than the small jack that came with my Magic Tilt trailer

This fit properly and helps compensate for a narrow opening (top crank was important). Quick delivery also helped.
