Video Transcript for Curt Class I and II Pin and Clip Review

Speaker 1: Today we'll be having a look at the Curt Class I and II pin and clip that's 1/2" in diameter, part number F-4. If you have an 1-1/4" hitch and have any hitch-mounted accessories to go with it, whether it be for a Class I or Class II accessory, you're going to need a pin and clip to secure them to your hitch. What's great about this pin and clip is how easy it is to use. With the pistol grip design, it makes it easy for us to insert the pin or remove it when securing our accessories such as this ball mount here. Once we have the pin inserted, we can take our clip, line it up with the pin, push it in place, and that'll secure our pin and our accessory. What sets this pin and clip apart from others on the market is that we have this beveled edge right here to help guide the pin through our holes in our hitch and our accessory. So, if our holes aren't lining up perfectly, this will help push them together, making it go through nice and easily. Also, other ones on the market, the clip goes around the pin.

It doesn't go through it. I find that this is a more secure option and makes it easier to remove the clip or to install it. It'll even work great with a cargo carrier, and just like that, we're hooked to our cargo carrier. It's secured to our vehicle and we're ready to hit the road. Not only does the pin and clip work with our ball mounts and our cargo carriers like this one, but it'll also work our bike racks provided they don't have a threaded hole for an anti-rattle device, which they are kind of rare to see that but they do exist. Just as easy as it is to install, it's just as easy to remove.

We'll simply grasp our clip at the end of it, pull away from our pin, grab our pistol grip of the pin, remove it from our hitch, and then the accessory can slide out.Now for a few measurements of our pin. Our pin has an overall width at its widest points from the tip over here of 4". Our straight pin measurement from where it's straight to our hole where our clip goes through, the usable space that we have is 2-1/2". So what that means is with our 1-1/4" hitch as long as the hitch walls themselves aren't thicker than 2-1/2", we will have plenty of clearance for our pin to go through, securing our accessory to our hitch. Now, when comparing this pin and clip to others, such as the Draw-Tite, part number PC2, this one is a more affordable option and it's slightly easier to use because it has different design where the clip goes through the pin and not around it, and it also has more of a beveled edge, which makes it easier to insert the pin and the accessory in case the hole in the accessory or the hitch aren't centered properly. That completes our look at the Curt Class I and Class II pin and clip that's 1/2" diameter, part number F-4..

Great product, tho directions called for 19mm socket (actually uses 18mm socket). Installed in my driveway using common tools, and drove the rear wheels up on some blocks of wood to get a couple extra inches of space to work. I loved the 'fishing wires' that came with to get the bolts and spacers through the holes - how clever!

I bought the pin also with the hitch and reciever. It works perfect, no problems with it .

The pin is also working great after a year of use. No problems at all.

Quick. Fair Price. Excellent Communication. First, we ordered the hitch and had it installed. Then we needed the perfect fit for the task at hand: to pull a tank with gray water through a campground. Very specific. Just for our toad, a Smart car. Etrailer.com has the perfect software to lead you to what you need for the perfect combination. Quick shipment, reasonably priced. Direct communication for every step in the process. All in all, exactly what you’d hope for during these extremely dysfunctional time.

Being completely clueless and brand new to the towing/trailer world, I ordered mismatched parts. Roger R immediately reached out to me to ensure I had what I needed to properly install my hitch. I'm completely impressed with the customer service and affordability of etrailer.com and will recommend it to anyone... now to just get the parts installed and go get on the water!!

I ordered a trailer hitch and several other items that I needed for the install from etrailer. I will not get a chance to do the install for a week or so; but I have to comment on the delivery. My package arrived in just a few days. I get lots of items shipped to me; but just the care that was taken in the packaging really impressed me. The smaller items all came neatly packaged in a separate box within the shipping container. All items were securely packaged so there was no shifting or rattling. The outside box was heavy cardboard with a perfectly placed lifting handle. I've checked all the items out and everything is there, and the quality of all the products is excellent. I have no doubt that I will be pleased with the outcome of the install itself. Very impressive so far. I will likely be ordering more products from this company in the future.

Easy to install, still going strong a year later.

Everything fit perfectly on my 2000 Subaru Forester and is still working a year after installation. I use the trailer every week.

Fits well, easy to use, perfect length, don't have to think about it when it's in place. That's the best kind of assurance. Works with my cheapo Harbor Freight bike rack, too, after drilling out the hole a bit bigger.

Etrailer was recommended by other Mini Cooper drivers in Anchorage, AK. I needed a trailer hitch in a rush as I need to relocate back to the lower 48 because of COVID-19. Jennifer at etrailer was so helpful in getting the right hitch and all the necessary collateral pieces for the install. I was concerned that it might take too long to get the hitch, but Jennifer made sure I had the hitch within 5 days! I am happy to say that the hitch is installed and I’m ready to hit the road! Thank you so much, Jennifer and etrailer!

This was such an awesome experience!!! My husband and I stumbled across etrailer.com when we searched online on how to install a hitch. We then purchased all the materials needed directly from the website. Neither of us know a whole lot about cars but were able to easily install the hitch and wiring by watching the video and the paper instructions sent with the products. The part of this experience I am MOST impressed by is when I got a call shortly after placing my online order to let me know that what I had originally purchased was not compatible with each other. She then continued to efficiently and successfully modify my order to all the right products needed and I didn’t have to do a thing! If that’s not great customer service then I don’t know what is!!! Without that phone call, I would have received incompatible products and been in a real pickle due to time constraints. THANK YOU SO MUCH ETRAILER! You guys rock! Because of you, I now have so much more confidence in doing self-maintenance on my car.

Ask the Experts about this Curt Hitch Pins and Clips

  • Recommended Hitch Pin for 1-1/4" Class II Receiver
It sounds like you're looking for a hitch pin for a 1/2" diameter as opposed to a 5/8" diameter; typically a 1/2" diameter hitch pin is designed to be used on a 1-1/4" hitch receiver. If you just need a hitch pin you can use the Curt # F-4. If you're looking for a locking hitch pin to keep your VersaHaul Carrier attached to your vehicle, you can use the etrailer # e98879. Both of these hitch pins are designed for 1-1/4" Class I or II hitch receivers. If you can tell me what vehicle you're...

Is there a threaded nut inside the shank of the bike rack? My guess is that is the case. I do not recommend drilling a hole in a trailer hitch like the Draw-Tite # 76154 that fits a 2019 Nissan Titan as not only will this void the warranty but hitches have not been tested to be used after modification. A Class III, 2" hitch like the Draw-Tite is designed to be used with a 5/8" diameter pin and clip such as # PC3, while a 1-1/4" hitch will use a 1/2" diameter pin and clip like # F-4.

We have never seen an 1/2" diameter hitch pin on a 2-1/2" receiver. They all have 5/8" standard. We only see the 1/2" pins on the small 1-1/4" receivers. I would measure your hitch pin carefully. Is it possible that everything is 5/8" but just has a loose fit? Hitch parts do not have tight tolerances and tend to wiggle and rattle a little. Most likely your setup is just fine.If the rattling becomes annoying you can always add a Trailer Hitch Anti-Rattle Kit for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitches,...

This pin and clip is a total of 4" long overall with a 2-1/2" long straight pin.
