Video Transcript for Fulton Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler - Standard Coupler - F343000301 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Fulton Straight Tongue Coupler for a two-inch hitch ball. It has a 5,000 pound weight capacity. Now, this is perfect for your towing needs. It's a rust-resistant coupler. It's designed to be bolted onto your trailer's tongue. Has a nice Z-mac 600 finish to offer corrosion resistance.

It is a durable steel construction. Has the very easy to use trigger-style latch, makes for a quick and easy trailer hookup. You just pull the trigger, release it, and it opens the latch, you're ready to go. I happen to pull a two-inch hitch ball, just to show you. With it open, you can drop it right onto the hitch ball and then just rotate your handle back down, and it locks onto the hitch ball and you're ready to tow.

To release it, again, just pull the trigger, lift it up, and it releases from the hitch ball. Now, this coupler is a bolt-on installation. You notice the holes on the side is used to bolt it onto your trailer tongue. Again, it's designed to fit a two-inch diameter ball size. Capacity is 5,000 pounds. Mounting, it's designed to fit on a three-inch wide channel tongue.A few measurements on this.

The overall length from this edge to this edge is going to right at 11 inches, overall length. The channel length, which is the inside here that will fit onto the tongue is right at five inches. The overall height of this from the very bottom to the very top is going to be right at three inches tall. And the total width outside edge to outside edge is three and three-eighths inches, inside to inside is three and one-sixteenth. The whole measurements, when you bolt it on, they are standard center-to-center, three inches. But that should do it for the review on the Fulton Straight Tongue Coupler for two-inch hitch ball, with a 5,000 pound weight capacity..

every component of the trailer for my 17ft boat was getting a little ratty. Salt water is a B. Replaced the jack, winch and coupler with parts from etrailer and don't have a single complaint. Good products, shipped quickly, good support. Thanks all.

by:

Fast turn around. Replaced the coupler on my Bayliner boat trailor. Works great and heavier than the original equipment.
Thank you etrailer!
Highly recommend etrailer retail!

One year later the Coupler is working Great! Totally met my needs.

This unit fit perfectly as a replacement to my factory Aluma trailer coupler, which the latch failed after a a few trips. This unit is clearly built better! Shipped fast and well packaged.

by:

HD enough for trailering my 17' skiff.

by:

Th hitch installed without any problems. The only issue with the hitch is you have to have the ball positioned exacting right or the locking tongue will get jammed and the ball will not seat. It might take a few tries before you get it positioned correctly.

Just what I needed
Good quality

by:

Just installed my hitch to my boat trailer. I replaced my 1 7/8 in ball hitch with the new 2". Mounting holes were identical to my old hitch so it only took 15 minutes to put the new hitch on. Great quality at a good price. I am a repeat customer of etrailer and all has been good.

by:

Our old trailer’s hitch was rusty and this was a no-brainer to fit over the tongue.

by:

Great replacement well made trailer cou pler.

by:

Well constructed.

by:

Hitch coupler arrived and I had it bolted on in about 5 minutes. Looks good and is better than the one it replaced. Thanks for the quick delivery and the video response to a question that I had.

by:

I purchased a fin keel sailboat on a Trail Rite trailer in Oklahoma and upon getting the rig back to Colorado, I had to replace the surge brake receiver as it was completely rusted out. I purchased this receiver to replace the defective hydraulic version as well as purchasing a complete electrical brake system (drums, shoes, wheels, wiring and tires) to complete the changeover. Everything from etrailer has worked as intended.

Exact replacement for same item that came with my Trailex car trailer in 2002. Orig was just tired out from use. E-Trailer was great to do business with.

All is good Thanks Rachael for your follow-up, hoping to be using trailer more this year.

by:

I have a Shoreline boat trailer from the early 90's that needed a new coupler. The coupler I was replacing had mounting holes drilled 1" to center from the top of the outside of the unit. Most couplers place this hole at 1 1/4" from the top which would leave the coupler sitting with a gap between the top of the square beam and the coupler.

If your trailer has this less common hole placement, this coupler is a great looking and functioning unit.

by:

This was nice. I love the easy lock mechanism. High quality and great price. I replaced a hydraulic coupler (went to electric brakes) and this works great. Very easy to load and latch. Used on a 4 place atv/snowmobile trailer.

by:

Coupler was as described...excellent build quality and clearly up to the task of towing my 4,500 lb boat/trailer. Fit was very good.

Comments
After one year of use, still very happy with this product. Fit and function are excellent. Finish is as good as the day I installed it. Very happy with this coupler.

I ordered this coupler for a Kayak trailer project I'm planning to do.
The price was very competitive and I received it faster than advertised. I'm very pleased with the quality of this product.

Comments
Works fantastic, does exactly what I wanted.

by:

Although made in China, quality appears very good with smooth operation, positive clamping and excellent fit. All hole are properly punched with exacting location. Used this unit to replace a surge brake hydraulic coupler of equal gauge material.

by:

I upgraded my old rusted 3,500 lb. coupler to this 5,000 lb. one for a great price. Best part of the bargain was that shipping was only $7.99. eTrailer personnel even called as soon as I had placed the online order to tell me that they were waiting for restock of the part; that I could substitute for another brand or wait a week for my original request. Great prices and customer service!

by:

Solid built, but holes for mounting bolts didnt line up. Had to alter my trailer a bit to get bolts into tuonge channel and fit the coupler to trailer.

by:

I have been extremely satisfied with the trailer tires and the other items I purchased from etrailer last year. This is my go-to company for all of my trailer needs.

by:

Outstanding service. Great communication. Even with inexpensive shipped product arrived in a few days. I changed out the part in ten minutes.
Great product, great service, great company

Highly recommend

The Mounting Holes of the Fulton FasLok Coupler # F343000301 are 1/2 inches in diameter. The center hole to inside top of the coupler is 3/4 of an inch. The two mounting holes on the side are 3 inches apart measured center to center. I have edited a photo for you showing the measurements.

  • Bolt Recommendation for Fulton Fas-Lock Coupler Installation
You would want to use 2, 1/2 inch diameter bolts that are 4 inches in length. I pulled a Fulton Fas-Lok Coupler # F343000301 and checked the installation instructions to confirm the bolt recommendations.

  • Tongue Weight Rating on Fulton Trailer Coupler # F343000301
Yes, the tongue weight capacity will usually be 10 per cent of the couplers maximum weight capacity. On the Fulton Trailer Coupler, part # F343000301, that you have referenced, with the maximum weight capacity being 5,000 lbs the tongue weight capacity will be 500 lbs. Normally, when choosing a trailer coupler the gross trailer weight of the trailer is used because the couplers capacity must be equal to or greater than the gross trailer weight. I am including a link to a FAQ page on trailer...

  • When Installing New Coupler on Trailer Can There Be Gap Above Trailer Frame
If you wanted to shim the space you have between the top of your trailer coupler and the bottom of the coupler # F343000301, you could, but if you have the bolts torqued down and you aren't overloading the coupler's 5k capacity you should be fine.

  • Can Welded-On Dico Coupler be Replaced with a Bolt-On Type
It is certainly possible to replace a welded-on coupler with a bolt-on type so long as the new coupler's capacity is correct for the trailer and it fits the trailer tongue. If you know the trailer manufacturer it is never a bad idea to check with them about doing that retro-fit, just to ensure that they have no concerns about drilling through the tongue for installation of the bolt on coupler. They may also be able to offer you guidance about the bolt grade to use, typically a Grade 5 U.S. I...

  • Replacement 5,000 lb Fulton Coupler on 2003 Coleman Westlake
It's not the latch. It's the hitch ball size. I've done what you did before so don't feel bad, but if you use the correct size ball you will not have to worry about the trailer coming off.

  • What Size Trailer Frame Does Fas-Lok Couplar # F343000301 Fit
Basically what that 3 inches is telling you is the width of trailer frame the Fas-Lok Coupler, part # F343000301, fits onto. It doesn't need to be a 3 inch by 3 inch frame but it does need to be 3 inches wide. The channel is the inside of the Fas-Lok that fits over the trailer like is shown in the picture.

  • Comparison Between Fulton 5K And 6K Fast-Lok Coupler
The difference between the Fulton Fas-Lok Coupler with a 5,000 lb capacity, part # F343000301 and the 6,000 lb weight capacity coupler part # F346000301 is just that. The weight capacity. Both are a bolt-on installation, designed for 3 inch channel trailers, have trigger latches, and work with a 2 inch ball. The mounting holes are spaced 3 inches apart and both have the Z-Max 600 finish that helps resist corrosion. While the F346000301 coupler is rated at a higher capacity, it sounds...

  • Is Straight Tongue Coupler Stronger Depending on if it is Bolted or Welded?
There actually isn't any difference in strength for a straight tongue coupler, no matter if it is bolted on or welded on. Most couplers are designed to be one or the other, and their capacity won't change - and the security to your trailer - will be the same regardless of the installation method. For example, the weld-on Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler with High-Profile Latch - 2" Ball - 3" Channel Tongue # BD028382 and bolt-on Fulton Fas-Lok Coupler, 2" Ball, 3" Channel # F343000301 both have...

We've found that this lock fits basically all styles of couplers well including the Fas-Lok and does an excellent job deterring theft.

  • Can I Remove A Weld-On Trailer Coupler and Replace it With A Bolt-On Coupler?
Yes, you can remove your weld-on coupler and install a new bolt-on coupler that fits a 2 inch ball. There is just a few things you need to do to before and when installing. You need to know what channel size and the weight capacity you will need for the new coupler. The most common sizes are the 2, 2-1/2 and 3 inch channels. Coupler, # CT-3001-Z , can be used if you have a 2 inch channel and a weight capacity of 3,500 lbs. If you need a coupler for a 3 inch channel, the Fulton # F343000301...

We don't have generic coupler repair kits that I can recommend, but most likely your coupler can be replaced if you take it to a qualified welder in your area. They should have no problem removing the coupler and installing a new one. If your hitch ball is 2 inches the part # F343000301 would work for you. This mounts to a 3 inch channel. If you have a 1-7/8 inch ball you would want the part # T4845000.
