    • Weatherproof box keeps built-in diodes protected
  • Won't interfere with electrical system when towed car is not hooked up to RV
  • Custom designed for your vehicle
  • Includes wiring harness, mounting bracket, and installation hardware

Wiring Your Towed Car with Hopkins

Wiring your car for flat towing has never been easier. No more testing wires or splicing into your electrical system. No need to painstakingly position multiple diodes beneath your vehicle. No worries about voiding your warranty. With this custom-fit towed vehicle wiring kit from Hopkins, all you have to do is plug the harness into your vehicle's existing wiring, which is located behind your car's tail light assemblies. No cutting, tapping, or splicing is required.

After plugging in the wiring harness, use the included bracket to mount the 4-way flat connector at the front of your towed car. An extension loop (sold separately) is required to connect your towed car to your RV.

Do You Need a Brake Light Relay?

Because your vehicle has a combined lighting system - wherein the brake signals and the turn signals are carried on a single wire - a brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) may be required if you use a supplemental braking system with your towing setup. A supplemental braking system depresses the brake pedal in your towed car every time you apply the brakes in your RV. So, if your towed car's brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed and the engine is off - as is the case when towing - then you need to install a relay to ensure that the lights on your towed car always act in accordance with the signals sent by your RV via the wiring harness. Without a relay, the brake signal from your towed car will override the turn signal sent by your RV when you slow down to make turns, creating a potential hazard.

Excellent product with outstanding price. Easily installed. I highly recommend this wiring harness . It has been installed and has worked well for over one year.

Product was delivered within 4 days. Put base plate on same day wiring the next day. Perfect fit. Stacey was very knowledgeable and helpful. Great job. I will use etrailer for all my accessories and parts.

2003 Jeep Wrangler

From an installation perspective it is plug-and-play and is relatively easy to install. However, the first one I received was defective. There was a problem with the diode pack. The defect caused both lights in the towed vehicle to flash when applying the right signal in the towing vehicle. Kudos to the folks at eTrailer for sending another quickly. I tested the replacement and all functions worked with only one seemingly minor observation, with running lights on either side signal causes a slight dimming pulsation in the other, not-blinking tail light. It shouldn’t be enough to confuse other drivers of your intention. Having to install the harness twice was a huge pain.
My 2003 wrangler brake light function is active with ignition off. This means that the brake lights overrode signals. I with the product info alerted me to this problem. I now need to disable the brake lights in my Jeep when in tow mode. This is probably a common issue. I ordered a relay but have not installed it yet. Having to reinstall the harness again I feel rushed so the relay will have to wait and in the mean time I will pull the fuse when towing.

2006 Jeep Wrangler

The parts fit fine, had to use a [online videos] video by etrailer to help because written instructions were not detailed enough.Everything plugged into factory light connections

by:

Easy plug and play. I cut the 4pin connector off and wired a 6 pin socket with battery caharge line to be compatible with my tow vehicle and other TOADS

by:
2001 Jeep Wrangler

Easy to install ! About an hour! Used some split flexible wire protection ( not included with purchase) Would recommend a 5ft 4 pole flat trailer connector extension when using a tow bar!

by:

This wiring kit worked perfect for wiring our towed vehicle to our motorhome.

by:
2006 Jeep TJ

The telephone support was excellent. I can't rate the product since it hasn't been installed yet.

by:

Just finished installing the light kit on my 2005 Wrangler TJ Sport. Everything went as expected. The installation video helped a great deal. The written instructions that came with the kit were incorrect for my year vehicle but the video was right on.
The lights work fine when hooked up to the motorhome and when unhooked.
Great product, plugged right in.

by:
2000 Jeep Wrangler

Everything necessary for the installation was included and in excellent condition, Top notch review and self help videos!

by:

sales person was very knowledgeable and helpful

by:

This wire harness was a snap to install and works great on my towed vehicle. The instructions were clear and made the install quick and easy.

by:

We installed the wiring harness and never could get it to work so now we use magnetic lights. It was labor intense too install and a little gun shy to re-order the same product. I am a mechanic and was very disappointed in the light unit.
Thanks, kinda nice to vent!

by:

I think someone needs to read the directions for this product. I can figure out how to install it, but the directions dont make sense.

by:

Wish I had known about these ready-made wiring kits earlier.

by:
2001 Jeep Wrangler

This wiring harness was exactly what I was looking for so that I could tow my jeep behind my RV. No cutting, just plug and play (er I mean tow). There was plenty of extra wiring at the front end so that I could route through the engine bay and mount under the front bumper so it was out of site but easily accessible. Worked perfectly!

by:
Jeep

This is a great kit. I used a fish tape to pull the wire through the frame to the front of the Jeep and had it all working in an hour.

by:

Very easy install with great instructions. Have been using this for about a year now with no problems at all.

by:
2004 Jeep Wrangler

This was a breeze to install!! About 30 min and I had working lights on my Jeep and was ready to hook it up behind my motorhome. Price was great too. Stopped at my local RV dealer and he said he could get me a wiring kit for $250! Saw this one online for $50 bucks and took a chance. Sure glad I did! Disconnect a couple of plugs, plug in new harness, route the wires to the front and BOOM! Ready for the trip! Thanks guys!

by:

I just finished installing this harness on my 2003 Wrangler. As any wiring on a Jeep, it was uncomfortable and tight to access the wiring. This is normal. The installation sheet instructions were inaccurate for my model, I have a career in automotive, so it was no problem for me. I installed this for flat towing of my Jeep. I ran the harness over the fuel tank and down the drivers side undercarriage, that is where the main harness and brake lines run.

by:
2001 Jeep TJ

I received the two items I order very quickly. Great updates from the seller and the shipper. Poor weather today and unable to install the wiring harness. But, given the way the company performed, I believe I will have no problems. Very happy with etrailer.

by:
2004 Jeep Wrangler

Good product. Install directions should include which plug in at each taillight should be used if you already have trailer hitch plug in wiring installed. Had to go to Youtube and find a video that talked about the correct colored wire you should connect to. Other than that, install went well.

by:

easy install great product!

by:
1999 Jeep TJ

After one year on the vehicle and also installing new LED lights, the wiring kit is still working. I love not having to add extra lights for towing.

Easy to install and works great.

  • With Hopkins Tow Bar Wiring Plugged In 1998 Jeep Wrangler Right Turn Signal Does Not Work
To determine where the problem is I ask you to disconnect the Hopkins harness # HM56202 from the passenger's side and plug the vehicle tail light wiring in like normal. If the right turn signal still does not work then the bulb could have blown or a fuse may need to be replaced. If it does work then check the connectors on the Hopkins harness to see if there are any broken or bent pins or any corrosion anywhere on its or the vehicle's connectors. If that is not the issue then there is...
