Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.
Don't let your spoiler spoil your fun. The Over-the-Top bike rack lets you carry 3 bikes on the back of your vehicle without the fear of the rack's mounting straps or frame damaging your spoiler. And it works great for traditional vehicle trunks too.
Many trunk-mounted bike racks will not fit a vehicle that has a spoiler because the rack's mounting straps will make contact with - and cause damage to - the spoiler. The Over-the-Top is designed to provide adequate clearance to accommodate most spoilers - particularly those found on newer SUVs, minivans, and hatchbacks. The high-rise frame extends up and over the top of your trunk or hatch, and you can attach the top 2 straps at angles that keep them from making contact with your spoiler.
With multiple mounting options, you can attach the straps to your vehicle's hatch, trunk, roof rack crossbars, or raised roof-rack side rails. If your hatchback has a spoiler, then the Over-the-Top is the bike transport solution for you.
If your vehicle has a naked roof, use the standard straps attached to the upper frame of the bike rack. Just secure the rubber-coated metal hooks to your trunk and adjust the tension of the straps with the cam buckles.
To attach the rack to a standard trunk with or without a spoiler, just fold down the high-rise frame and rest it on your trunk lid. Then secure the rack with the standard hook attachments.
If your vehicle's roof has crossbars or raised side rails, use the included D-ring straps to attach the Over-the-Top to the roof.
First, position the included canvas pads between the D-ring straps and the rails or crossbars on your roof, and then wrap the straps around the bars.
Then replace the standard straps on the upper frame of the bike rack with the included quick-connect straps.
Connect the D-rings on the roof rack straps to the hooks on the quick-connect straps, and then adjust the tension of the straps.
Fold the built-in canvas pads around the straps and hooks to protect your roof from scratches and scuffs.
If your vehicle doesn't have a place to anchor the top 2 straps, use the included hatch anchors. With the trunk open, thread the hatch anchors through the gap between the trunk and your vehicle's roof, placing the anchors inside your vehicle and the D-rings on the roof. Then close the hatch.
Next, replace the standard straps on the upper frame of the bike rack with the included quick-connect straps. Then connect the D-rings on the hatch anchors to the hooks on the quick-connect straps. Built-in canvas pads keep the hooks and D-rings from scratching your vehicle's roof. Cam buckles let you adjust the tension of the straps.
To fit the rack to your vehicle, use 4 of the interlocking hubs with quick-release levers. Two of these hubs let you quickly adjust the position of the base to ensure that the rack is seated properly on your bumper, trunk, or hatch. The other 2 hubs let you adjust the angle of the high-rise fame.
Four sturdy vinyl straps with rubber-coated metal hooks let you mount the rack to your vehicle. Just loosely position the straps around the base of your trunk or hatch door. Flip the levers up to open the adjustment hubs and rotate the rack's base to the desired position. Then line up the teeth on each hub, push the levers down, and rotate the levers until the hubs are snug. Repeat this process to adjust the rack's high-rise frame, making sure that there is plenty of clearance between your spoiler and the rack.
Once the bike frame is adjusted as needed, you can tighten down the straps. Tensioners on the rack's bottom 2 straps ensure a snug fit at the base. Four foam pads on the rack's base and two on the upper frame help protect your car's finish from scratches and abrasions.
This dual-arm rack supports your bikes better than a single-arm rack. The adjustment hubs on the arms have quick-release levers so that you can move the arms up or down - independent of the base and each other - to ensure that your bikes are level during transport.
Rubber anti-sway cradles with straps firmly grip your bike's frame at 3 points, helping to prevent front-to-back sway. This minimizes bike-to-bike and bike-to-car contact during transit. The cradles rotate and slide along the bike rack arms, so you can easily adjust and space them based on the type and number of bikes you're transporting. And you can use the integrated safety strap to reduce the movement of handlebars and wheels during transport.
The Over-the-Top's arms can be folded down against your vehicle, and when it's not on your car, the rack can be folded flat for compact storage.
A security strap and a cable lock (sold separately) are recommended to deter theft of the rack and your bikes. The strap will secure the rack to your vehicle, and the cable lock will secure your bikes to the rack.

My kids now ride bikes that are too big for us to stuff them all in the van anymore and I was not willing to put a trailer hitch on the van. In my search, I discovered my van has a 'spoiler' (who knew?) at the top of the rear window and most bike racks would put pressure on it and crack it - seriously? ugh.
Then I found the HOLLYWOOD bike rack online and thought my problems were solved. I had never heard of them before (cause everything you hear about is either THULE or SARIS) so I asked around at some local bike shops....found out it is a solid little company and they make a good rack.
Etrailer.com had the best price on the rack by far so pulled the trigger and ordered the rack. My confirmation email did not tell me when it might arrive and I had a mtn biking trip planned for my birthday. I called Etrailer and spoke with Lisa (a total sweetheart)... for $25 they could express ship it to me and it would arrive in 48 hours. That was worth it for me and sure enough it arrived in time.
Putting the bike rack ON the car did take about an hour - there are a lot of straps and to be honest - it took me awhile to sort out which end was actually the top vs the bottom...sad but true :) I found the video demo to be MUCH more valuable then the instructions included in the shipping container. Going forward I think installation will be much quicker.
TOTALLY satisfied with my purchase. Drove on 1-95 for several miles with the bikes and then on several 2 lane roads going anywhere from 40- 75 mph. Bikes stayed on - nothing wiggled loose- everything stayed put. Lost one of the black rubber 'tie down' straps that keep the bikes in place while you are driving - but assume that happened when I took the bikes OFF the rack when we got to the mountain.

The installation video and review videos were very helpful. It securely held 3 adult sized bikes for a drive on some hilly, windy and bumpy country roads. There was no wiggling, shaking or squeaking. Very easy to assemble and disassemble.

The product fits well(Mazda CX5) and is made of quality material(Straps/frame). Installation instructions were a little confusion but one email to support and all was fine.
Need to invest in bike bar for the low bar bikes.
First of all, I want to say thanks to other people who wrote a review about this product, I had a hard time finding the right 3 bike rack for my Volvo SUV until I stumbled on this website!
The explanations and video posted by the seller is great, after watching it and looking at the instructions book, it was very easy to install. The quality of this rack is very nice and sturdy.
The buying process was very easy on the website and the shipping was free. This was great!!! The shipment arrived intact on time and very fast, I had to wait till the weekend to put it together.
I definitely recommend this seller and definitely will come back in the future if needed more car stuff.

Sami - 12/09/2018My experience with etrailer was great. I bought my rack about a year ago. I was looking for a 2 bike rack. Unfortunately, they only had 3 bike capacity and up. After I explained what I was looking for, the associate sold me the larger capacity rack for the lower price.
I searched for a rack for a very long time and I was glad to come across this one. Mine is mounted to a 2021 Subaru Outback. Unlike most of the other racks, the design of this rack directs the reaction forces to the hard spots on the vehicle. The bearing load is reacted through the rear bumper just below the hatch - not the hatch itself. Most of the tension is reacted through the straps to the car rack. No loads are imparted to the rear windshield unless during a severe and sudden acceleration. The rack is stable without affixing it to the car which illustrates what a balanced design it has. The structural components are robust without being heavy. Overall quality of fabrication is very good.
It took me an hour to install it the first time. That includes unpacking it, reading the instructions, and finetuning the adjustments. I went deliberately slow. Your installation time may be less. After the first installation, it generally takes me 15 minutes to install the rack and load one or 2 bikes. Here again I take my time.
On the road this rack is very stable. I have driven long distances with it at highway speed. The bikes are held securely and do not move independently of the rack. No swaying or rocking at all under any road conditions.
I haven't detected any body damage or signs of rubbing after may uses.
I can say enough good things about this rack. I highly recommend it!
Once I figured out the perfect placement on my Honda Pilot, it was very easy to install. I’m happy that I got the 3 bike size for my 2 beach cruisers …. They’re beasts??It would hold 3 regular sized bikes no problem. Very sturdy, no bouncing bikes! I did choose to use some extra bungee cords to secure bikes as well, we had a long drive, so just extra security. Highly recommend!!

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! We have a 2008 Subaru Outback and could not find a regular bike rack that would work without breaking up the spoiler. I was looking at getting a hitch installed, (U-haul $250) then finding a bike rack for the hitch (another $200 or so)...well then I ran into problems cause my car only takes 1/4" hitch. So I called eTrailer.com about what to do...Heather asked me what I was trying to accomplish and told me about the Hollywood Rack.
This was perfect...it sounded great and looked like exactly what I needed. Ordered it on a Monday and it was to me by Friday and we set it up on Saturday and by Sunday we were out in upstate NY with my wife and son on the first of many, many bike adventures. Yes it is more expensive than most bike racks, but it works perfectly for a car with a spoiler and in adding it up, was a cheaper and better option than that hitch - This is a seriously solid product.

Oh and I agree with all the other reviews I read. It will take you about an hour to figure out the set up. After you understand it, 15 mins to set up. Can be done alone, easier with 2 adults.

I have just received and am completely satisfied with my purchase of the Hollywood Racks Over-The-Top 3-Bike Rack for my 2016 Infiniti QX50. My pre-purchase questions were answered thoroughly and promptly, my feedback was asked for and considered, and shipment and delivery were timely. I have just installed and tested the product and it is a perfect fit! The only misstep was an initial recommendation for a Thule bike rack that would definitely not have worked on my vehicle. However, this could easily be from a manufacturer's fit guide understandably followed by etrailer. I will definitely be a return customer and will recommend the site to friends, as well!
Although it takes a few minutes to install the rack, it works great and fits both our Subaru Outback & Crosstrek. Because of its design, I'm sure it will fit any future car we might buy. It is really a great design with almost infinite configurations and very steady on the car. We have a 3-bike rack, but only carry 2 bikes. I wonder if I could even get a 3rd bike to fit. Maybe I'm not mounting the bikes in the best way; but it works great for 2 bikes.
NotBob - 05/13/2021Bought this bike rack for a 2016 BMW X1, and I couldn't be happier. The rack was very easy to install and it is very secure on the vehicle. Getting the bikes on/off the rack is a breeze and the included straps ensures that the bikes remain secured tight on the rack. I bought a separate lock to put on the bikes while they are on the rack to prevent theft.
I had a hard time finding a 3-bike rack that fit my vehicle, and this one is perfect. Buy this rack if you are in the market...you won't regret it.
This is my first purchase from etrailer. I was pleasantly surprised by the entire transaction. The shipping was remarkably fast (and free!). The online videos and written instructions were great in helping me with installation. The product itself was exactly what I needed for my Mini Cooper Countryman. The other options I researched online were way more expensive and involved than I wanted to invest in. This rack was quite easy to install to my crossbars and has the clearance needed over the rear spoiler. The only downside is that my Mini is now full of smelly teen boys needing rides to mountain bike team practice.
Love that this came fully assembled and ready to go. I drive a 2018 Honda Odyssey and ordered this rack because it was advertised to work with vehicles with spoilers. It fits really great with minimal adjustment, although I did have to move the top straps up one hole but that was easy enough to do with the included tool and a screwdriver.
Biggest problem so far is that the weight of the track trips a sensor in the auto liftgate of my van making it malfunction, then auto close. If anyone knows a work around please let me know! We can bypass the automatic function and pull the gate up manually, but the gate will not stay open. We have to hold it open with one hand which is not ideal when we have to get two other kids bikes out of the back and possibly a trailer for carrying our youngest daughter.
This is an great Bike Rack very easy to install on the car.The rack stays in place,bike does not move at all. I go on dirt roads with lots of pot holes,bike does not move at all.
I also like the part where the arms that the bike sits on folds down when not in use. I am so happy with my purchase, I will recommend it to other people 100 percent.
Well designed and super solid. A little confusing to deal with at first, but what new piece of equipment isn't? Now it's second nature, and I've never felt more secure hauling our bikes.

I have had this product for a year now. Use it on my BMW X1 2016. Hitch is not available by default on X1, so I went with Hollywood racks. So far, it has proved to be pretty reliable. Fitted on to the car nicely and I feel safe carrying bikes around with it. Seems like good value for money. BTW, putting it on takes atleast 15mins along with making sure it is secure. Carrying 2 hybrid bikes on it requires some position adjustments.
I used the bike rack for the first time today drive over 100 Miles. The installation video tutorial was excellent and helped me in installing it on my vehicle. I have a RAV4 with a spoiler and The bike rack fit perfectly not touching the spoiler as described. It was able to fit 3 bikes securely as described. I had a Thule before this and this bike rack far exceeds the quality and I feel comfortable and safe using it. I would highly recommend this bike rack and etrailer.
Have owned for a year now. Rack is fairly easy to put on & off. Holds 3 adult bikes well and does not put any stress on the top spoiler deal on Ford Explorer. Would recommend to others
After scrouring the local bike shops in my area and being told my vehicle could not support a trunk rack for three bikes I ran acrossed this rack when I googled trunk racks for my SUV. I have a 2007 Honda Pilot and I was looking at $600.00 for a roof rack or hitch mounted rack which was really more than I wanted to spend. When I checked online this rack came up as an option for my car! I called etrailer and the customer service was amazing and they were able to answer all of my questions . The rack shipped promptly and Installed it myself. This was my first rack ever so there was a little bit of a learni curve for me but overall it was SO easy to install and is now a breeze for me to take on and off . This is a quality sturdy rack. Purchased this for my 2020 Hyundai Venue and it fits perfect using the roof rails. Feels sturdy and was fairly easy to put on and take off.
We received our bike rack and spent minimal time placing it on the vehicle, thanks to the excellent video we watched prior to ordering the product and the enclosed instructions. I would recommend this rack to others especially those with a 2017 Toyota Van. We have had bike racks for our sedans which do not fit the van. We ordered this rack and it is much easier to install than the racks we previously used for the sedans. It was quick and easy to install. Well worth the money spent!
Ester - 08/11/2018Makes accessing your trunk impossible and is a pain to put on ... Even though it said works for acura rdx, will not work for any car without a rear bumper lip (ie acura rdx)
I found this bike rack after an extensive search due to spoiler interference issues with my 2016 Honda Odyssey. It works great and securely holds bikes without any movement going at highway speeds. The instructions in the box were a little weak but the etrailer video helped explain it all much better. From box to loading the bikes took about 45 minutes. Should just take a few minutes now with learning curve behind me.
