Video Transcript for Inno Aero Crossbars Review - 2016 GMC Yukon

Today in our 2016 GMC Yukon, we'll be taking a look at showing you how to install the Inno Aero crossbars. The part number for our crossbars today are IMXB138-2. For our Inno through-feet fixed mounting point kit, we're using IMXS350, and for our custom-fit kit for the Yukon, we're using INTR154. This roof rack system will allow you to mount cargo boxes, bike racks, kayak saddles, seat carriers, and other accessories. By putting these accessories on your roof, it will give you more room inside your car and more room in the back. The Inno Aero crossbars are low-profile, aerodynamic crossbars that are going to help reduce wind noise and drag. The integrated weather strip is going to keep out dirt, debris, and grime.

It's also going to allow you to install any channel mount accessories into that weather strip as well. The Inno crossbars have a 165-pound weight capacity, but you do want to check your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure your roof can withstand that much weight. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get this installed. I've gone ahead and laid out all of my pieces on the table just to go over them with you. The only things you will need to provide are a flat tape measure and a flat-head screwdriver. Everything else that you see on the table here does come included with the kit. We have our crossbar here that's pre-assembled with that weather strip already inserted.

We've got our foam blocks here. These are going to go in underneath our crossbar, into this channel, once we have our crossbar loaded up and in place. That's just going to help to cut down on wind noise and drag. You will be able to place it in here with that foot pack in and snip off the end. We're not going to do that today, but I will let you know when it is time for you to do that. Up in front of that, we have all of our hardware.

The smaller bolts are for whenever we're securing our brackets that secure to our roof. These are going to be the bolts that secure to our flush rail system. These brackets and covers here are going to be what secure everything to our vehicle. We have our crossbar end-caps here. That will be installed afterwards.

These covers will be perfect for when you want to take your crossbars off of your vehicle but leave your brackets on. That's just going to be placed on a cover and just give some extra protection for that. Then we have our 2 foot packs with our covers for our foot packs, and we have a set of keys to lock the covers to our foot pack to help to prevent theft and tampering. Now, once you've decided where you're going to mount your back crossbar and you've removed the 2 plastic screws, we're going to take our bracket and place that over the 2 holes using the longer of the included bolts, and we're just going to tighten that down. Then we'll take our included hex wrench and we're just going to tighten those down completely so that the bracket is nice and tight and secure on our flush rails. With those completely tightened down, we'll take our plastic cover and we're just going to set it over the top. Now we'll do the same thing for the other side. Now we have our brackets and our plastic covers installed. We're going to remove the bracket under here so that we can install it onto our flush rails, and then we'll be able to secure our foot pack to that bracket. To do so, we're just going to flip this over and we're going to loosen up this knob here. With that loosened up, we can pull out this bracket, set that off to the side, and we also want to open up this lever, which will help us when we want to install our foot pack onto our crossbars. Now let's go and install our metal bracket onto our flush rails. Here we have our metal bracket that we just removed from our foot pack. We want this notch to be facing towards the inside of our vehicle. We're just going to place that right on top of that plastic cover. We'll take 2 of our smaller bolts, and we're going to insert them into the closer holes towards the inside. I'm just going to hand-tighten those down to start, then we'll use our included tool once again to tighten those down all the way. Once again, we'll repeat the same process for the other side. Now we can take our 2 foot packs and install them on our crossbar. We'll take our first one, lining up this portion here with the hole on our crossbar, then we're just going to slide it along our crossbar. Do the same thing to the other side. Now, when we load this up, we want to make sure that our lever is completely open and that our bolt is completely loose. If that bolt is too tight, we can't open the lever, and it won't allow us to install this onto our crossbar. Now with an extra set of hands, we're going to place our crossbar onto our vehicle. Now we want the bracket that's attached to our foot pack to sit behind this bracket that we installed onto our cover. What we're going to do is loosen up our bolt just a bit more. Then we have this bracket here in the back, this black one there, we're just going to push that back once we have it completely loose. That's going to allow our crossbar to push down and sit in the appropriate place. Now we want to take our measurements and adjust for our crossbar overhang. Now, to measure a crossbar overhang, we're going to measure from the end of our foot pack to the end of our crossbar. There's no specific measurement for this, just as long as it's even on both sides. Now with that even, we'll start to tighten everything down. We're going to use the black knob here at the end. Now we'll need inaudible 06:28 to close the lever on the back so that our foot pack secures to our crossbar and doesn't allow that to move, but it's also going to tighten up this bracket so that it squeezes onto the bracket that we installed on our flush rails. Now once again, we can take our included tool. We've got 2 holes on each side. We're going to insert that tool in the bottom hole and we'll be able to rotate and torque down our foot pack. With both those sides completely tightened down, now would be the time to take our foam piece and insert it in and then you could cut off the excess. Once you have your foam pieces installed and cut, you can take your crossbar end-cap and secure that in place. Then we'll take our foot pack end-cap, place it on, and lock it into place. That's going to help to prevent theft and tampering of your crossbars. That's going to be our completed look at the Inno Aero crossbars kit for our 2016 GMC Yukon.

Review from a similar Fit Hooks in Roof Rack

Great system. Got it installed the night before a road trip, and once you get the hang of if, assembly is easy and intuitive. This system is rock solid and well done.

Things I wish I knew that would have helped in my decision:

1) After you install the footbeds, the rails and tower easily remove as one unit in the future, and they include little covers to put over the feet. No more long debates about wind noise. If you find them modify or don’t like the look, take it off in five minutes. Even the Allen wrench is stored neatly in the rack.
2) I had been a long time Yakima user, so that’s where I started with my GX rack. Having searched far and wide for landing pads, I was all set. Step one of the Yakima system: remove factory rails. Having just spent good money on this truck, I’m not taking off factory rails and adding silicone around the holes to create new mounting points. Innos fits nicely to the factory rails.

I am more than pleased by the service that I had at etrailer. I was looking for a very old roof rack for my Subaru Legacy 2007 and etrailer had it. I was suspicius about it so I wrote them and got a quick and friendly answer that confirmed the fit and availability. Delivery was quick and the tracking from etrailer website was outstanding.

Quick and easy. This roof rack was shipped quickly. Installation was super easy and it looks like it was made for my truck. Holds my canoe perfectly. Thank you!

etrailer was great to order from! Going to the website makes it easy to see what roof rack will fit your vehicle. Ordering process was a breeze and the fulfillment updates were great. Ordered on the 13th and received it on the 16th so the FREE shipping was super fast. New installs of anything can always be challenging but once I read the the instructions it all went pretty smooth. Installing this Inno Roof Rack onto our 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport was pretty simple and took less than an hours from start to finish. Now we are ready to load up out Thule cargo carrier when we hit the road.

Once again etrailer.com delivers. Finding a crossbar solution for my 2021 Lexus GX 460 was far more challenging than expected until I visited the site and found exactly what I needed. The fit kit worked great and the quality of the feet and crossbars on par or better than other brands (who dropped the ball on having a product available for this vehicle). The rack is on, secure and now carrying my Thule cargo box. Very happy.

Install was straight forward, read the instructions of both the hooks and the bars as they are different per vehicle. Build quality initially seems very good. Fit and finish superb. If you’re looking for a rack that is low drag and low noise this one is super quiet, even with a Yakima Skybox on it it’s quiet. Will update with mpg effect later.

Review from a similar Fit Hooks in Roof Rack

I bought these as part of a kit with 60" Aero bars and the appropriate kit for my 14 Flex. I spent probably an hour and a half double checking my measurements and getting them torqued down properly. I spaced the bars on top of the car just a little wider than proscribed because I was planning on carrying 4x8 plywood, and it looked better to my eye. One thing to watch for: The instructions for the car-specific kit (in my case INK263) show the foot spacing measurements for a square bar, and the measuring point for these feet and Aero bars is different. That measurement point is indicated in the instructions for the feet, not the kit. Same numbers, just different reference point. Otherwise, they look good and are rock solid.

Great fit for a 2015 Honda Civic SI. If putting a long boat (17' Mad River pictured), the Thule canoe clamps are recommended. Without them, highway speeds would be risky if at all possible. I was pleasantly surprised out how stable the boat was on the rack without the clamps.

The Inno roof rack fit my 2014 Honda CRV very well. I used it immediately on a 500 mile trip and the rack is fantastic. I connected an XL Thule car box and 11'-6" paddle board to the rack and everything fit fine. The aero design is great and we did not hear any noise during the trip.

Review from a similar Fit Hooks in Roof Rack

I purchased the Inno Rack system and Rhino Rack 581 saddles for my 2007 Mercury Montego. The instructions were easy to follow, and the rack is rock solid. It makes loading and unloading my kayak a breeze. I previously used roof pads and that was ridiculous compared to what this rack does for me now. I am amazed with how quiet with and without the kayak attached is - I don’t hear anything except the very slightest amount of wind with the windows open on the highway. I always have put a one turn twist in the bow and stern straps, but for the rest they’re all straight. I added an extra strap on the rear crossbar that goes behind the rear combing of my cockpit for extra security- but that’s just me. I’ve included a photo to show my setup. Thank you so much Mark S, Becky B, Carol C, and George J. etrailer rocks.

Review from a similar Fit Hooks in Roof Rack

These cross bars are great. Bought them for load capacity at this budget friendly price. They exceed my expectations and do what they are designed to do. Sturdy and great look! Not an aerodynamic design, leading to plenty of wind noise, but that wasn’t a dealbreaker for me.

One side fits tight, the other doesn't. The instructions recommends a gap takes place between the roof and foot pads. The side with the gap slips even when fully tight. Will call Inno

Comments
This generally happens when the measurements are off. We recommend that you remeasure the gap that is between the roof and foot pads.

Rack detached from my roof on the highway at about 70mph, taking my cargo container with it. Luckily, no one was behind me as it would have very easily caused an accident. Customer service was terrible and didn’t accept a return. Damaged the contents of the cargo container.Do not buy this product or from this company as they will not help.

Comments
There are a lot of factors involved when installing and using a roof rack. For the 2018 Ford Focus Sedan the roof rack capacity is 120 pounds although you would want to also check that the manual says for the vehicle. Before tightening anything down you will want to look at the instructions to find the proper spread between the bars and also the feet. Once that is down you will take the included Allen tool and tighten down the bolt. Next you will install the fit kit which will have you start with the foot pad. The foot pad will line up with the holes at the bottom of the foot. These will push into place and are numbered so that the right pad lines up with the right foot. To install the clamp you will remove the screw from the outside and loosely tighten it up to hold the clamp into place. The next step is to measure from the center of the doorjamb you will get the measurement to the center of the bar. You will find this in your instructions. Repeat on the other side. Then you will take the tightening tool and snug it up against the door. You will do this on the passenger side as well. Then you will go back and forth from drivers to passenger side giving about five or six turns each time until its completely tightened down. When it makes the clicking sound you will know its completely tied down. You do not want to over tighten it.

Wanted to keep my 64"Thule square load bars from my older roof rack since Thule changed the load bars to the new v bottom cut version. Read from the reviews that inno rack still allows you to use the old Thule bars.
Large cost savings instead of having to buy brand new rack. Inno rack feet with (old)Thule cross bars work fine with a wind surfer and Thule box! instructions say for a 2016 MDX bare roof but fits my 2022 mdx and well.

Review from a similar Fit Hooks in Roof Rack

These racks are great, I did a ton of research to find something that would work for me since I didn’t have roof rails on my Kia Sportage. There are a lot of small pieces so installation was a little intimidating but it went smoothly. I’m not planning on using them for a ton of weight and more for looks. I’m not sure how they’d hold up as functional racks.

It was easy to find the right part for my Rav4 for my Inno rack on the website. The communication was perfect and the order was promptly shipped with confirmation. I could track my order easily, seeing who handled it within the shpping department at each step. The parts were well packaged and arrived I perfect condition. The provided instructions were sufficient and I was able to quickly install the rack without requiring support. This was an exceptionally excellent experience! I will definitely order from etrailer again and highly recommend them. I am located in eastern Canada.

Review from a similar Fit Hooks in Roof Rack

Everything is good so far...the Inno rack system appears to made of good quality, fit and finish...it took about 2-hrs to get everything built, lined up, adjusted, tightened, loosened, repositioned, then retightened down...but I’m a bit of a perfectionist with things like this...plus I was checking my Saris cargo bin and various attachments, make sure that they’d all, which they do! And very well I might add...I just need to buy some new square carriage bolts for the channel now, along with new knobs...hoping that etrailer will get back to me with info soon...I will likely get a new wind deflector too...yesterday I did a test drive, was very pleased with the minimal whistling that occurred, and that was primarily between 30-40 mph and it was much quieter than my old Saris Roof Rack....after 40 mph the whistling got much quieter, very faint high highway speeds

We bought this along with the INTR - Inno Feet for Square Crossbars. We used this to mount Thule crossbars and a Thule Adventurer cargo box on a 2001 Subaru Forester. Everything fit perfectly. The Inno mounts were completely compatible with the Thule crossbars. The fast and accurate shipping helped avert a crisis before a cross country trip.

Install was pretty easy, and feels very secure. Will have our first drive using the racks this weekend so I will update if necessary. Overall we are very happy with the racks. No drilling or work required on the vehicle, which is great, and the got them installed in a couple of hours of casual effort.

Good customer service, I was directed to the correct product for my car. These rack feet fit just right in my existing Inno system. The instructions were easy to follow. I am so glad I can use my old Inno rack system with a different car thanks to these custom feet.
