Automatic Rain Sensor

MaxxFan Plus Rain Sensor

The MaxxFan Plus has a rain sensor that detects when it starts to rain or snow. The sensor then automatically closes the roof vent and shuts the fan off, preventing the interior of your RV or trailer from getting wet. This allows you to leave your vent open and running without having to worry about the weather. Once the sensor has dried, you'll be able to open the vent and turn the fan back on. To deactivate the rain sensor, press the rain sensor button on the keypad.

Reversible, Variable-Speed Fan with Thermostat

MaxxFan Plus Fan Motor

The 12-volt, variable-speed fan has 2 modes of operation: manual and auto. When the fan is in manual mode, you can choose from 10 different speeds to increase or reduce the airflow as needed. Auto mode works in conjunction with the fan's thermostat.

To enter auto mode, press the auto mode button on either the remote control or keypad. Once the fan is in auto mode, the thermostat is activated with a set temperature of 78 degrees F. Pressing the arrow keys on either the remote or keypad changes the set temperature in 1 degree increments. When the thermostat is set, it senses the room temperature and automatically turns the fan on if it is above the set temperature. The fan shuts off when the set temperature has been reached. If the room temperature rises, the fan turns on again. This keeps your RV cool and comfortable and saves you from having to adjust the fan by hand. The auto mode also saves energy by running the fan no more than necessary, especially while you're away or asleep.

This fan is reversible, which means you are able to both exhaust stale air out of your RV and bring fresh air in from the outside. To enter ceiling fan mode, close the vent while the fan is still running. The fan then circulates the air inside your RV like a ceiling fan.

The fan has a fuse-protected, ball bearing motor that is sealed to keep out dust, dirt, and moisture.

Remote Control and Keypad

Remote for MaxxFan Plus

The remote control has a built-in LCD screen so that it's easy to see the current settings. The remote enables you to operate the vent and fan from afar, including opening or closing the dome and turning the fan on or off. With the remote, you can also control the fan speed, the direction of the airflow, and the set temperature for the thermostat.

The remote comes with a cradle, which mounts to the wall. When it's not in use, the remote can be stored in the cradle. Hardware and 2 AAA batteries are included. The low-battery indicator located on the top-center area of the screen lets you know when it's time to change the batteries.

Keypad for MaxxFan Plus

Like the remote control, the flush-mounted keypad on the vent allows you to operate the vent, the fan, and the thermostat. The rain sensor can only be activated or deactivated from the keypad.

Powered-Lift Dome with Twin Arms

MaxxFan Plus Dual Arms

The dome on this roof vent is constructed of durable high-density polyethylene, and it is translucent so that some natural light can shine through. When it's closed, the dome provides a seamless, low-profile appearance that blends into the roof of your RV.

This powered-lift dome opens and closes automatically, which means no hand cranking is needed. And unlike a dome that has only 1 arm, this dome is supported by 2 sturdy arms so that it will not flutter during high winds or while you are driving.

The dome has a sensor that will automatically shut off the lift motor when an obstruction is encountered or when the dome reaches the end of its travel. So, for example, if the dome cannot open all the way under your vent cover, a sensor will stop the dome once it has opened as far as it can.

MaxxFan Plus Manual Knob

And a manual hand knob is built into the underside of the vent to allow you to open and close the dome if your RV loses power.

Removable Bug Screen

MaxxFan Plus Bug Screen

This vent has a bug screen that helps keep insects and debris out of your RV. It is secured to the vent with 4 built-in retainer clips. These clips make it easy to remove the screen for cleaning or maintenance. Just rotate the clips, and the screen will pop out.

The MaxxFan Plus vent fits standard 14" x 14" openings in the roof of an RV, camper, or enclosed trailer. A white interior trim piece (or garnish), insulated electrical connectors, and hardware are included for installation. The vent also has a molded-in mounting flange that is lined with a rubber weather seal, which helps prevent leaks. Roof sealant (sold separately) is required for installation.

To install, connect the two wires on the vent to your RV's electrical system. The black wire is for power, and the white wire is for ground. Then insert the MaxxFan Plus into the opening in the roof and mount the flange to the roof. To finish, trim the garnish as needed to fit the thickness of your roof and install it.

MaxxFan Plus With FanMate Cover

For extra rain protection, install a MaxxAir FanMate vent cover (sold separately) using the molded mounting tabs located on the flange. The tabs are designed to align with the integrated brackets on the FanMate, allowing for a no-drill, tool-free installation. These tabs also have rubber inserts that prevent water from seeping in under the flange.

So far so good. The fan arrived on time, and despite being shipped without the benefit of an outer box, there was no damage to the fan. The installation instructions were clear, and the installation was not overly complicated. The fan itself is very quiet, allows a good amount of light in, and swiftly pulls heat and presumably propane exhaust up and out of the kitchen. It’s a huge improvement for our 2011 Keystone Raptor both in terms of safety and convenience. The materials and construction of the fan appear to be of high quality, but time will tell how well it will hold up to daily use and occasional travel.

I watch a youtube channel called "Big Truck Big RV." You sponsor this channel. This person speaks very highly of your company. I know he is compensated to, but he always gives his honest opinion. I respect his opinion and when I need to replace a faulty MAXX Air Fan, I decided to look at etrailer. The price seemed fair. It was pulled from the warehouse, shipped, and received within days. I have not opened the fan yet because I am waiting for a time when I can install it. I have confidence that if I have any issue that etrailer will help me. I am looking forward to working more with your company.

Great, no issues

I replaced our factory vent and fan with this new large multi-speed fan. Keeps the bathroom from steaming up with the great air flow. Moves a large amount of air either into or out of the bathroom. Installation was very easy, hardest part was removing the old Dicor from the roof opening. Not difficult, but took the most time of the entire installation.

- MA00-04500K

I love etrailer about 90% of the time. The other 10% is when I attempted to order keyed alike locks. It all ended ok but was a pain. In any case this is a review about a maxxfan 4500k. Let me just start by saying etrailers price was $125 higher than a competitors and they were willing to price match it. So a solid A+ on price matching. The box came just as it would if you bought it off the shelf. No additional packaging which is fine. I’ve had this same fan before and it works great. Thanks again for the price match etrailer. The fan will go in next week when I redo my RV roof on my Montana 3750fl.

I ordered and installed a MaxxAir 4500K Vent fan to install in our cabover area of our Class C motorhome from Etrailer.com . This is the second one we installed, the first one in the RV bathroom is still working great after about 1 years time. Reason I installed a 2nd one is so we can have one fan exhaust air while the other fan pulls air into the RV and thereby create a wind tunnel through the RV so we can close and lock the windows but still cool the RV in moderately warm weather when we want to leave the dog in the RV and go somewhere with everything locked up. I chose Etrailer for this purchase because they had a good price and they show MaxxAir as one of their partner brands and state the fan has a 2 year manufacture warranty right on the page where it is listed. The fan was shipped quickly and I was pleased it wasn't old stock, the model label on the fan showed 2018 manufactured. I also bought a Maxx II cover for it.

- MA00-04500K

I purchased 2 MaxxAir fans about a year ago & I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase! My husband and I installed them ourselves, which was a bit of a task but still doable. Removing the old adhesive before installing the new fan was the hardest part. They aren't cheap, so I was a little hesitate before buying, but they have proven to be worth every penny! I'm actually on a cross country road trip right now, using these wonderful fans everyday since I hit the road in August. They're great for blowing out the hot air after a hot day, cooling off the rv when it gets a bit too warm inside or when you just need a little circulation. The rain sensors are so incredibly helpful and work great! The lids are a bit noisy when they open and close, but once the lid stops moving, the fan isn't that distracting at all, especially on the lower settings. I highly recommend the MaxxAir Fans!

- MA00-04500K

This beats Fantastic in my opinion. Just took the motor apart to clean, that is a good thing. The features and remote are everything I could want. If you want to really clear the air 100% really works, but it can also run smoothly and very quiet at 10%. I would put a hole in my roof for this fan.

Clear the air. No problems at all. I am always amazed when the rain or wind sensor just close the cover. I did not have space to put a vent cover on. I you have the space I would recommend the additional cover. It will allow you to run the fan even if it is inclement. Cleaning is pretty easy. the screen is simple to remove but if you wish to wash the fan blades, quite possible, it is a bit more work. Keeping it clean helps and is easy. I expect my fans, yes I have two, to last as long as my RV.

The vent fan I ordered on line was not in stock. Etrailer advised it would take a couple weeks to get and suggested another model. I was not in rush so stayed with my original purchase. The expected delivery date continued to get pushed back. Etrailer continued to keep me advised and follow up on my order. I desired to change to the model they suggested and had it a few days later. Appreciate great customer service. It’s hard to find these days.

- MA00-04500K

Received products quickly! I did have a question regarding the wiring and called to verify since our old bathroom fan had more wiring. Within minutes it was hooked up and ready to go. They only product I would suggest to get is Butyl Tape or proper sealant before starting, saves time. We used Butyl Tape and its working great. The features on this fan are wonderful and love having a remote control. I did mount the base for it just beneath the existing switches, as the original on/off switch needs to remain on for remote to work properly. When the remote is in the holder it covers the switch. There are two features that I have experienced and love about this unit. 1) Temperature control settings and 2) Fan can be reversed bring in fresh air. We also installed the MaxxAir II RV and Trailer Roof Vent Cover - 22-3/4" x 18-1/2" x 9-3/8" - White - MA00-933072 because we like leaving the vent open at times when rv is not in use and not hooked up to electricity. This prevents weather elements from entering and also keeping birds from using it as a nesting site.

This fan is wonderful! It is working as well as the day we installed it. Highly recommend this fan!

Product design is aesthetically pleasing and construction appears to be very durable. Purchased this particular fan over another popular brand because of its low profile when closed and because it has dual actuator door support arms. Product will be used in my teardrop trailer build so I was wanting something compact yet attractive. I'm not to the point where I can actually test the operation of the fan at this time. Hopefully soon. Thank you etrailer.com for another great product at a great price and as usual, superior costumer service.

- MA00-04500K

It’s been a year since purchasing the vent fan and it has worked flawlessly every time.

- MA00-04500K

Product will fit my related teardrop camper build needs perfectly. I especially want to commend and recommend etrailer staff for their expertise, helpfulness and reliability related to this purchase and others I will be making. It is truly a customer oriented company. Staff is knowledgeable, personable and responsive.

Here is the finished installation

- MA00-04500K

As an owner of 2 RV's, I discovered etrailer.com in the process of maintaining my 2006 Komfort travel trailer. I required 2 Maxxair fans. After shopping on the net, I found etrailer to have the best prices and they also had, that I couldn't find anywhere else, stainless steel braided LP gas supply line for my LP tanks. After placing the order they have stayed in touch with me about every process of my receiving them. They were packaged very well to held avoid shipment damage. These folks have shown me a great deal of respect and appreciation and I will be a loyal customer because of this. Great web site, and a good selection of products at great prices. What more could anyone expect. By the way, in my opinion, the Maxxair fans are great. I chose the 4500K.

GREAT! My wife and I both love them.

I delayed writing this review until after I installed the vent fan. Having used other brands over the years, I was reluctant to change to Maxxair. Besides the cost savings, the quality of the new vent is far superior than expected. East install, quiet operation and complete without having to purchase "extras" to finish out the project. Model numbers are CLEAR and easily understood when price shopping. When my other two fans quit, (and with todays quality, they will), I'm going with the Maxxair MA00-04500K.

Still working well, even with outside temps over 110°.

- MA00-04500K

Great fan. The Rona times slowed our camping, but when we did this was great for moving a lot of air through our 5th wheel.

- MA00-04500K

After watching a the how-to video, I realized I didn't need to hire a repair person. The install is straight-forward requiring no special skills.

- MA00-04500K

Works great

- MA00-04500K

Replaced a 14 year old, Top of the line at the time, Fantastic fan . the 4500K is equal to and in many ways much better. Very Quiet, has a Better range of speeds ,10, and on low speed you cant even hear it. The double lift arms are much more substantial than the current Fantastic models. Remote is very handy to use. Time will tell. So Far very happy. etrailer was fast, and as usual my go to source.

Still operating very well . Quieter and very convenient to operate from bedside at night if I need to. Much better construction it seems than the fantastic. Price with etrailer was outstanding ..

Product worked out wonderfully except for my shortcoming of finding the proper power supply. It was shipped immediately, arrived on time and without damage. Can't ask for much more than that. I can now use my smoke detectors and vent my kitchen area as the OEM manual vent was inaccessable and useless.

Still loving it. So glad I changed out that useless manual vent in the 9 foot ceiling.

- MA00-04500K

looks good - not installed yet but have a couple more in already. A new minisplit ac and heat pump replaces the old rooftop rattler. Cant reach without a step stool so need remote. After 5 years have achieved heating and air conditioning heaven in my 5th whl.! etrailer is the best outfit around, their photos and videos cover the product well so you know exactly what youre paying for! The fan-tastiks are good units too but a little overpriced these days.

- MA00-04500K

Very easy install, the hardest part was peeling the old one off. Added a lot of circulation through the camper. Thinking about buying another one for the bedroom.

Still working very good! No problems at all

Great product! Quiet and efficient. Love the rain sensor and auto close. Worked great during a down pour in the middle of the night. I got up to shut it and it was already closed.

- MA00-04500K

I bought a New 2018 Keystone Cougar trailer in April 2018 and removed the stock 3" fan roof vents the first week of ownership and installed 2 new MaxxAir auto remote Vents . They are AWESOME, 1 over the bed area & 1 in the bathroom ....They work like a Home /Whole House system. Air IN over the bed ,thru the trailer Out the Bathroom. I run these alot & NO Problems! Highly Recommend this fan, You'll Love them too.

- MA00-04500K

Seems to be a great product, installed yesterday when we received was easy to install we are headed out today for a few days in our 5th wheel so will see how it works. Was a little short on time when we ordered it but was able to get it in time thanks for getting it out so soon.

  • Can I Replace Operator Mechanism Of MaxxFan From Inside The Trailer
No, the whole fan assembly like part # MA00-04500K would need to be removed from the roof, leaving the inner frame. Then the unit would need to be disassembled to get the operator mechanism to replace it with part # MA10-20281K-1AF. If your MaxxFan with the rain sensor, like part # MA00-04500K, starts operating automatically and the controller or the controls on the unit aren't working then that sounds like a bad circuit board or that the built-in safety feature for too much (or not enough) voltage was activated and the circuit board locked up. Since your trailer came with a pair of MaxxFans already it is a very good bet your current vents are installed in an opening that size. Though it is not possible to know if the mounting holes will line up as I am unsure of the model number of your current MaxxFans, the MaxxFan Plus does come with the needed garnish (instead of using your...

  • Roof Vent Lid will Open but Not Close with Remote on MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent Assembly
Is there a clicking noise when the "close" button on the remote is pressed? Does the fan stop moving when the "close" button on the remote is pressed? If you hear a clicking noise then the motor is likely faulty but if the fan doesn't stop moving then the issue is likely a fault in the circuit board. If the unit was just purchased then I recommend contacting the vendor to have a warranty claim filed.

  • Lowest Profile Roof Vent With 12 Volt Fan and Rain Shield
The fan with the lowest profile that has a rain shield is the MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent with 12V Fan, Thermostat, and Remote - Powered Lift # MA00-04500K. This vent meets all of your requirements, because when it is closed it extends above your roof a mere 3-3/4 inches. Since it is a powered lift it also has the rain shield you are seeking and a 12 volt fan that is reversible to move air in or out. The MaxxFan Plus is one of the nicest vents available as well as being highly convenient...

  • Amp Draw For the MaxxAir MaxxFan #MA00-04500K
The 900 CFM fan of the MaxxAir MaxxFan #MA00-04500K that you referenced needs to be attached to at least a 5 amp circuit. So it's max draw would be 5 amps.

  • Can the Rain Sensor on a MaxxAir Vent be Overridden
MaxxAir vents that have an integrated rain sensor, like the MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent # MA00-04500K, do not allow you to override the sensor. If you were to override it you would be allowing rain to hit the motor which could definitely damage it. The sensor will close the lid and shut off the fan when it is wet, but when it dries up the vent will open up and turn the fan back on.

  • Recommended Rain Cover for MaxxFan Roof Vent # MA00-04500K
For your MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent # MA00-04500K I recommend the MaxxAir FanMate Rain Cover - Smoke # MA00-955003. This unit is specifically designed to fit over the molded mounting tabs on your existing vent and it will do a great job of protect the vent and your trailer from rain. I have attached a short video demonstration that you can also check out.

  • Troubleshooting Maxxair Fan 5301 To Determine if Motor Needs Replaced
The way to test the motor is to bypass the circuit board by disconnecting the motor and then applying power from your battery using a jump wire to one wire while connecting a grounded wire to the other wire of the motor. It sounds like you did this and the motor didn't turn with direct power applied. So you know it is the motor and can replace it with the Replacement 12-Volt Variable Speed Fan Motor for MaxxAir MaxxFan RV Roof Vents # MA10-20968.

  • Troubleshooting Roof Vent That Fan and Lid Power Stopped working
If your roof vent, like the MaxxFan Plus # MA00-04500K, is supposed to operate via the control panel then it sounds like you need to check the connection from the panel to the vent and if that looks good the connection from the vent to where it is powered. If only one part was not working then it could be that one part malfunctioned but since everything stopped working altogether it sounds like it isn't getting power.

  • Roof Vent for Dog Box Truck Topper
I do have an option for you but we do not have any roof vents with 12 volt fans that would install on just a single piece of aluminum like what is on your dog box. The MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent part # MA00-04500K is designed for roofs between 2" - 6-1/2" thick so the interior bracket would more than likely have nothing to attach to. Instead, of a powered vent I recommend using the Redline 2-Way Pop-Up Roof Vent part # 9106-2756 which will install flush on the aluminum and will not require...

  • Troubleshooting MaxxAir Vent Fan that Won't Turn On and Rain Sensor Light On
I spoke with my contact at MaxxAir regarding your vent like the MaxxFan # MA00-04500K. He said what you are experiencing might be caused by a short in the rain sensor. Since that light is coming off and on, this is likely the issue and what is also causing the fan not to turn on. He recommended taking a rag with some rubbing alcohol and simply cleaning out this sensor. Hopefully once it is cleaned out, everything should start working again as normal. If you are still having issues,...

  • Rain Sensor Location on MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent # MA00-04500K
The rain sensor itself on the MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent # MA00-04500K that you referenced is located at the far right corner away from the lid assembly on the fan. I have attached an image pointing out the sensor that you can check out as well. When the sensor detects rain (or snow) it will automatically close the vent and shut the fan off to prevent the interior of your RV or trailer from getting wet. This means you can leave the vent open and running without having to worry about what...

The best option we have for what you are wanting is the MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan, Thermostat, and Remote # MA00-07000K as it has the white lid, the remote operation, and a rain sensor to automatically lower the lid. The fan is also 10-speed and reversible.

  • Fully Remote Controlled Operation of Vent Lid and Fan on MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus 4500K
The MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus - Smoke # MA00-04500K does come with the fully functional remote. It will allow you to operate all functions of the vent and fan as you mentioned. The only manual override option is for the vent to open when there is no power being used and that manual operation actually restricts the automatic closing option of the rain sensor. I've attached a video to assist further. The thermostat control is an excellent feature to conserve energy only running the fan as needed.

  • Recommended Vent Fan for Truck Cap to Allow Ventilation for Dogs
The MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus - Smoke # MA00-04500K will work on your fiberglass truck cap, but highway speeds will not allow it to stay open. The remote will work fine from inside you truck cab. If you want to be able to drive the highway speeds, I recommend the MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan, Thermostat, and Remote - Powered Lift - 10 Speed - Smoke # MA00-07500K. This will keep your dogs safe as long as you have the 12V power on even when you are away from your vehicle. This will...
