Video Transcript for Performance Tool Carbon Fiber Digital Caliper Review

Today we'll be looking at the Performance Tool four inch carbon fiber digital caliper. Part number PTW80157. This allows you to read from 0 to 4 inches or 0 to 100 millimeters. It moves in 100ths of an inch or 1/10ths of a millimeter. It has a nice LED screen. You hit the on button and it's easy to read.

You can switch between millimeters and inches. Right now it's in inches and now it's in millimeters. Just by the touch of a button. We also have our zero capability so when we move it down our measurement tool, if we want to measure something and see the difference between another measurement, we can hit the zero button and it shows us the difference. This is a negative distance or a positive distance.

Take it back to zero and hit the zero button again so we can start back from zero inches or zero millimeters. This allows us to measure the outside diameter or the inside dimensions with the other side. Now we can show you in action. On our trailer here, we pulled off our seal. Usually it's stamped with the measurements on it, but this one has worn off over time. WE can use our tool to find the inner dimension of our race.

2.18 inches. If we need to figure out the outside diameter, that'll be 3.35 inches. Other measurements that we might need to know. Come to our shaft. We've got the bearings that sit on our shaft so we might need to know the diameter of our shaft.

We can come up, be 1.24 inches and that'll be for our inner or our outside bearing. If we need to figure out our other, the larger bearing, the inside bearing, we do the same thing. 1.74 inches. Now if we need to know the difference between the two, we come up we get the inside bearing, we hit our zero button, that zeros it out, and we can come to our outside bearing and we see there's almost a half inch difference between the two bearing sizes. Same works if you want to figure out the dimensions here for our race because that's where it sits. This is where our race sits. If I want to do difference in that. I'll take our meter, I'll measure the inside diameter of our race, I'll hit the zero button, and then I can come and measure the outside distance of our race and see if there's any difference at all. Which, there's not, but if there was it would show us. There would be a negative difference or if I measure something bigger, it would show us a positive difference. That's it for a look at the Performance Tool 4 inch carbon fiber digital caliper. Part number PTW80157.Speaker 2: You can find this and everything else right here at etrailer.com What's up man.

Good product

by:

It works great and it's just plain fun. I bought it to measure bearing buddies and spindles. It works for that but it also has been great for measuring the diameter of carbon fiber tubes I'm using to build a sailboat mast and spars.

It gives instant metric to inch conversions - just push the in/mm button and the measurement in the display converts.

I've used it at least a couple of hundred times and it's still on the original battery.

Pro tip: Close it all the way before you turn it on.

I have always wanted a digital caliper now I have one. I have always relied on my older read out types since this is the one etrailer uses I will be able to take the same measurements they do . My local bearing supplier has priced themselves out of the market so I use etrailer !

  • How To Determine What Disc Brake Will Fit 7,000-Lb Trailer Axle
I have attached a link to our product page for the disc brake assemblies we offer for trailers with 7,000-lb axles. You will want to make sure you select the correct system so it is compatible with the spindle you have on your axle. The best way to find the right system is to remove the bearings and hub components you have and get the numbers stamped on them. If you are unable to find the numbers you will need to take some measurements of the spindle using a digital caliper like part...

  • Trailer Hubs For a Spindle that is 1-1/4 Inches
If the hubs you need are replacements, the easiest way to find new ones would be to check the inner and outer bearing numbers of your previous hub, which will be stamped right on the side of the bearings. If those are worn or otherwise unavailable, you could use a digital caliper such as # PTW80157 and measure your 1-1/4" spindle to three decimal places. You can use the photo I've attached as a reference for where to measure. You are also going to need to know your wheel bolt pattern to...

The easiest way to find the correct replacement brake kit for you rtrailer is to remove a wheel and hub and find the numbers on the bearings. I have attached a photo that shows where you can find the numbers on the hub components. It is typically stamped or etched into the side of the product. If you cannot read the numbers or cannot find then numbers you will need to measure the spindle inthe locations noted in the photo. You should also measure the inside diameter of the hub as noted...

  • Replacement Bearing Kit, Bearing Buddy, and Brake Assembly
To ensure we get you the correct parts, you will need to pull one of your hubs of your axle and get the bearing number on both the inner and outer bearing and the seal on the back. The numbers are printed right on the face of each of these components. Those numbers will help me get you the correct replacement parts. Bearings are very specific sizes, so this will help us get exactly what you need. If you can't get the numbers off the bearings due to bearing failure, then you can measure...

We have many different options, but unfortunately I can't tell by the photo what bearings you need for that spindle. I'll need you to help me with inner and outer bearing numbers (which are printed on the face of the bearings) or I'll need you to measure the spindle with a digital caliper like # PTW80157 at the bearing and seal locations. I've attached a photo to assist. I've also linked the page for rotor with integrated hub for your convenience.

  • How to Determine the Correct Set of Bearing Buddy Protectors
In order to determine the correct Bearing Buddy Protectors for your 2015 Trailstar boat trailer, I would need to know the diameter of the hub bore on your trailer. You could also measure the outer diameter of your grease cap. This measurement will need to be taken to the nearest thousandth of an inch using a digital caliper like part # PTW80157. Once you have this measurement you can then take a look at the attached selection of Bearing Buddy Protectors and choose the one that matches...

  • How To Determine What Bearings Are Needed For Boat Trailer
The 2.328 measurement of your Bearing Buddies is not really enough to go by when you want the bearings and other hub components. The best way to make sure you get the right components is to pull the hub and get the bearings numbers from the side of the bearings as shown in the attached photo. If you cannot find the numbers on the bearings, I recommend using a digital caliper like part # PTW80157 and measure the axle spindle where the bearings ride and then measure the inside dimension...

  • How to Determine Axle Capacity When Tag is Missing
If you cannot locate any type of information on the trailer itself, either on the axle or somewhere on the frame, then measuring the axle diameter can usually give you a good idea as to its capacity. When measuring the axle, you will want to measure along the actual axle tube - anywhere between the spring seats will work fine. • How to Measure to Determine Correct Grease Seal
For a grease seal to fit properly it needs to have an inner diameter that matches the spindle diameter and an outer diameter that matches the hub's bore, which is where the seal installs. Please refer to the linked diagram that shows where a seal rides on the spindle, point B. Measurements for things like bearings and seals have to be very exact, and generally require a digital caliper like # PTW80157 that can give you very precise readings, ideally to the nearest thousandth.
