Note: This adapter is designed to flat tow a vehicle only. Do not use to tow a trailer. When using with a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, the tongue weight of your hitch will be reduced by at least 50 percent.
Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to an appropriate level. The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

Hollow shank is lightweight.2004 VW New Beetle tow frame mounting is a very difficult job as the front bumper skin is mounted with four hidden torx bolts at the fender and bumper skin joint. The instructions say the frame can be mounted by leaving that seam connected and lifting the bumper skin but it is likely that damage will occur. So remove the skin. Reinstalling requires replacing the torx bolts and threaded plates with large sheet metal screws and clip nuts that can be purchased at a parts store. Also, be sure to check that the pins will insert after the frame is bolted on. I had clearance issues on the drivers side and had to remove the frame to trim the radiator support with great care as the A/C condenser has a tube within the area of trimming. Also, the braces below the frame fit poorly and require shimming and wiring harness and power steering cooler adjustment. It’s best to install brace to car frame bolts with the tow frame off using the provided nuts on wire rods. Leave loose and tighten when installing frame. The job took three days in my home garage with minimal tools. In retrospect I should have found a Jeep to tow but I owned the Beetle. Good luck.

Great setup but difficult to install in a 2004 VW New Beetle. Used a brake booster stud to grab the pedal pull cable clamp.
OUTSTANDING, THIS DEVICE RAISED MY LUGGAGE RACK HIGH ENOUGH SO IT DOSEN'T SCRAPE WHEN DRIVING ON A STEEP INCLINE.
Item feels very heavy and well build. Also consider that will "stick out" of your rear bumper a good 10- 15 inches... see picture!
Car is Chevrolet Tracker- idea was to install rear step on the extension but at the moment I just have a towing shackle...
Just purchased.a used Class A motorhome and recognized that the receiver was at such a height that would require a high/low adapter extension to line up better with our tow vehicle. Ordered it on a Thurs night and received it the following Monday. It appears to be of excellent quality and the price and shipping charges were much less than the price at my local RV dealership!

Decided to flat tow my Jeep behind our new motor home. The Jeep has a 3" lift and an after market bumper with D-ring tabs that I will be using to mount the tow bar. To stay withing the tow bar specifications, this adapter is exactly what I needed. I was going to make one but for the price and delivery, it was a no brainer to buy. It's well made and well finished. Another picture in a review had my exact situation and made it easier to make up my mind.

Perfect alignment with the 6"riser after I lifted my Jeep wrangler 3.5" plus 35" Nitto tires.
This hitch works great. The distance was perfect to keep my belongings away from my poorly engineered exhaust pipe. I would make sure I shop here before I go anywhere else for my trailer needs.
Have had good luck with RoadMaster products for many years and I have no doubt that this 6" drop adapter will have a long service life as well. I'm using it to level the tow bar between an F550 4x4 and a Geo Tracker 4x4.
I received the Roadmaster High-Low Adaptor Hitch Mount in 2 days. It is exactly how it was described and pictured in the catalog. It is heavy duty with a 6000 lb tow rating. My tow vehicle is 4400 lbs so I don't anticipate any problems. I haven't used it yet, other than inserting it into the receiver. It will solve the tow bar level issue with the tow vehicle.
I'll be using it as a riser. I haven't used it yet but it has enough distance before the rise to clear the bumper. Seems to be a very stout and well made item.

Wish I had this back last summer when I was on vacation. Bought a front hitch for my truck, but it was too low for my four place bike rack. So, long story short, my bike paid the price with two bent rims. Oooops.
Now that I've got this it won't happen again, unless the front axel blows out, or it's a really deep dip in the road - like over a foot.

My 6" High-low drop down hitch was just what I was looking for looks very well made, the receiver part was a little tight for my tow bar to slip in easy had to hammer it in. The finish seems to be of high quality and I know it will give me many years of service. The shipping and packaging was very good and arrived one day earlier than expected. Would buy from E-trailer again.
I recently traded in my old toad, a 2009 Honda Fit, and rigged my '05 Element to tow instead, The Element was exactly six inches taller at the tow bar level, and this high-low adapter worked perfectly to bring my tow angle up to level!
