Video Transcript for Roadmaster Tow Bar Wiring - Bypasses Vehicle Wiring - RM-155-2 Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster Bulb and Socket Set for Tail Light Wiring Kits. This set includes two bulbs and two sockets, designed to work with Roadmaster's Tail Light Wiring Kit. Each socket has a three-wire design that would easily connect to the Roadmaster Wiring Kit. With these installed in your vehicle, along with a wiring kit from Roadmaster, it's going to allow you to use your towed vehicle signal lights without tapping into the towed vehicle's wiring system. This is going to be ideal for flat towing applications. When installing this, you will need a one inch diameter hole for the installation and around two and a half inches of available space inside the tail light assembly for these to install without harming any other components inside the assembly due to the heat that these will produce. If you ever need to replace a bulb, it uses a 1157 double filament bulb.

They are available and sold separately at I also recommend using some type of sealant around the mounting area to keep dirt and moisture away from the internal components of the tail light assembly. We do offer some sealant here at You can check out the related items on this product's page to see the options there. When it comes to the wiring, your black wire's going to be your ground wire. Your brown wire is for the running lights and your red wire is for the brake and turn signals.

That's going to do it for today's look at the Roadmaster Bulb and Socket Set for Tail Light Wiring Kits.

RoadMaster Bulb and Socket Set for Tail Light Wiring Kits - RM-155-2

Average Customer Rating:  4.8 out of 5 stars   (60 Customer Reviews)

This set includes two bulbs and two sockets designed to work with RoadMaster's tail light wiring kits.

This bulb kit is just what I needed to add trailer lights to my 'toad' vehicle. The sockets felt like quality items, it was simple to install. I had my own wire, I think it turned out great.

These renewed the tail lights on my CRV toad. Wires on the old one corroded.

Bought this light kit to install in the un-used bottom position in or 2005 Honda CR-V. No need to tap into vehicle's wiring harness. Easy to install, works great! Highly recommend.

I have had light problems with my Motor Home tow vehicle for quite some time. It seemed like every time we got ready to take a trip one or more of the lights would not work and troubleshooting them was a real pain.

After using the trailer wiring package and wiring it completely separate from the vehicles lights, I have had no trouble with lights not working when I tow the car. If I were to have a problem now, I don't have to involve the tow car factory wiring just the separate system. Works Great.

GREAT, Using this kit and bypassing the tow vehicles lighting system has meant many trips with no lighting problems. Defiantly recommend this.

A replacement had one bad

I have installed the RM-155-2 on our 2018 Equinox to remove the possibility of problems in the electrical system of an electronic rich vehicle. Following the instruction sheet, and the very good video available from etrailer, the installation was easy for any DIY home mechanic. After towing our Equinox the on the first trip, I found that the RM-155-2 kit performed as expected and am very pleased and happy that my vehicle warranty has not been voided by alteration of the electrical system.

RM-155-2 stil working beautifuly each and every time we hook up to travel. Still very happy that we installed this kit to avoid any possible electronic problems with the Equinox wiring system. Great product.

These lights worked great in the 2007 Jeep Liberty tail light housings.

Thank you Katie D for your expert assistance in placing my order. It arrived quickly and in good condition. The bulb and sockets were just part of my order from Etrailer. I ordered several parts for my Blue Ox towbar as well. Everything is installed and it all woks perfectly.
Thanks again,

Just what I needed and quick delivery

This is a great way to be able to tow your vehicle without happen to have the key in the on position to have my lights work. This is on a Jeep 2001 Jeep wrangler. I also disabled the steering wheel lock. Now the keys are with me and not left in the ignition so it can be stolen.

Good universal socket for light housings that have hard to find sockets.
Hole size needs to fit 1157 bulb tight for best fit. I had to make my opening larger to work.

Bulbs and sockets fit nicely into the taillight module for my new 2015 Chevy Sonic. Plenty of depth in the red lens module for the RM-155-2 sockets and bulbs when mounted near the factory bulbs, and recommended 1" hole saw was perfect size.

Allowed me to add towing lights to the car after an RV dealer said it couldn't be done, and at minimal expense.

I received these sockets with bulbs in a timely manner and were just what I needed to wire my 2003 Jeep Liberty with turn signal and brake lights that were independent from the Jeep. They are now powered by my R.V. tow vehicle. Thanks etrailer, I could not find these anywhere locally. Great Product and easy to install. G. Ingle.

This product seems to be of good quality and was delivered quickly. It will not work for my application. Check you tail lights closely, my 2014 ram has LED tail lights and I am unable to find a location that will allow me to install these. The non LED tail lamps are no problem.

These Roadmaster light pigtails were used with a Roadmaster 4-wire strand for full-functioning jeep tail-lights, wired straight through from motor home connection. Instructions included. Works great.

I've had these lights for a year now and they are working really well! Thanks etrailer!

Still working brilliantly!

Good product, quick delivery.

Product arrived in excellent time. Was just what I needed. The only constructive comment that I can offer is that the diameter of the hole that must be drilled into the fixtures was not shown nor stated. I had to try drilling by trial and error on a scrap piece until I got the right hole size.

RoadMaster Bulb and Socket Set for Tail Light Wiring Kits part # RM-155-2 are replacement bulbs for Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit part # RM-155. The installation instructions for RM-155 require drilling a one inch circular hole through the back of the taillight housings. The holes must be circular and one inch to hold the sockets in place. I have attached a link for the installation instructions on RM-155.

The service in getting these parts was exceptional. Pat was very helpful over the phone with placing the order, she got the order out to me immediately and followed up to insure receipt. Great service! I will use this site for any future trailer part needs.

Works great, easy to install and makes the flat tow light game a non-issue!

Every think worked out fine from the time I ordered the items and installed the items on the car for our scheduled trip. I will be looking for products on this web site when I need something. I did not know etrailer had so many items to purchase at a good price.

Purchased for use on our chevy traverse, watched the video, and it helped make installation easy, they work great and I couldn't be happier. A high quality part. Now I won't have to be concerned about damaging the Traverse electrical system.

I had no issues with the product, the sales tech was very helpful. The video you have online was extremly helpful. Early this year I installed a base plate for towing and your video helped me with that also.
Thanks Charlie F.

I have used these products in the past and they work great.

  • What Size Hole Is Needed For Mounting Bulb And Socket For Taillight Assembly
To install the Roadmaster Bulb and Socket Kit, part # RM-155-2, you will need to drill a 1 inch diameter hole in the rear of your taillight assemblies. You want to make sure you have at least 2-1/2 inches of available depth, because the heat from the bulb could melt the lens if mounted too close. A hole saw is probably the best option for drilling a 1 inch hole. If the entire kit is needed, you can order part # RM-155. I have attached an installation video you can check out.

  • Will the Roadmaster Bulb and Socket Kit Fit a 2010 Honda CR-V
I checked with Roadmaster and they do list the bulb and socket kit, # RM-155, as a fit for the 2010 and 2012 Honda CR-V. However, to be certain I recommend drilling a 1/16 inch hole in the back of the tail light housing and then using a small piece of rigid wire or something similar that will fit in the hole, push it in as far as it will go, and then measure how much of the wire goes inside the housing. This will tell you how much space there is. You will need about 2-1/4 inches of depth.

You'll want to make sure you have at least 2-1/2 inches of available depth, because if the bulb is too close to the inside of the lens, the lens could melt. The full kit that includes the connectors and wire is part # RM-155. I'll link you to an install video that you should find helpful.

  • Can Stop/Turn Circuit be Used for Stoplight Circuit for Supplemental Braking System
Since the stop light circuits you mentioned wanting to tap into also carry the turn signal circuit you cannot use them for the brake light activation of your supplemental braking system. You'd need to tap into a dedicated stoplight circuit which you'd find at the brake pedal. Use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the wires that run to the brake pedal switch till you find one that only has voltage when the brakes are applied.

On the wiring harness you want to ground the white wire to your trailer's frame. Somewhere that is clean and bare metal. The same with the black wires from each of the bulb and socket lights. • Do I Need Diodes to Prevent Feedback from RV When Flat Towing
Technically no, you should not need diodes, though it will depend on the wiring harness you are using. Many wiring harnesses have built-in diodes. If you are using a TrailerMate wiring harness you may need to install additional diodes. We have had trouble with their built-in diodes giving out. If you are using a Bulb and Socket Set for Tail Light Wiring Kits like # RM-155-2, or a magnetic tow lights like # TL21RK, you won't have to worry about diodes because there won't be any feedback...
