When towing your vehicle with a tow bar, all 4 wheels are in contact with the ground. Certain vehicles - namely, those with front-wheel-drive automatic transmissions - require either a transmission lube pump system or a driveshaft disconnect when being flat towed. Using a tow dolly eliminates the need for those by lifting your vehicle's front wheels off the road. In addition, using a dolly eliminates the need for base plates that clutter the front of your towed car, difficult-to-install wiring, and a potentially expensive supplemental braking system. Also, if you want to tow multiple vehicles, this dolly is a great alternative to traditional flat towing because you don't have to purchase and install brackets and wiring for all of your cars.

Superior Design

Electric Brakes

The built-in electric brakes make it safe and easy to stop your vehicle while you're towing. This meets towing requirements, and also helps prevent the extra wear and tear on your RV's brakes that would otherwise occur because of the added towing weight. An electric brake controller (sold separately) must be purchased and mounted inside your RV to complete the installation. In addition, you will need a 6-way or 7-way trailer connector on the dolly so that it can receive the braking signal from your RV.

Universal Compatibility

The sliding ramps offer a 47" range of adjustment to ensure a precise fit for almost any vehicle you decide to tow. Also, the included wheel nets adjust to fit tires that are up to 30" outer diameter x 11" wide.

  • Can Rear Wheel Drive Car Be Towed Backwards on a Tow Dolly
A vehicle should not be towed backward on a tow dolly because if the steering wheel is left unlocked, the car would fishtail all over the place. If the steering wheel was locked, the steering linkage would break at the first sharp turn or the first bump you hit which would also cause the vehicle to fishtail. Your best bet would be to tow the vehicle from the front and disconnect/remove the driveshaft. The only way around that would be to place the vehicle on a trailer.

  • Can the 2013 Honda Fit be Flat Towed Behind an RV and If Not How Can it be Towed
Honda no longer allows their vehicles to be flat towed. In one section of the current printing of the 2013 Fit owner's manual it covers emergency towing and has the following statement: "Improper towing such as towing behind a motorhome or other motor vehicle can damage the transmission." However, there is also a section on flat towing the vehicle where it says that you can flat tow it. Based on this I would not recommend flat towing the vehicle because of the above contradiction. • Can 2016 Chevy Equinox be Towed on Tow Dolly like Roadmaster RM-2050-1
Yes, according to my research on your 2016 Chevy Equinox LTZ it can be flat towed with a tow dolly like the Roadmaster part # RM2050-1 and weighs less than the capacity of this dolly so this would be a great option for you.

I wish we had a base plate kit confirmed as a fit for your vehicle but at this time we do not. If your vehicle can be towed on a dolly (see owners manual) we do have a tow dolly. For that you would need part # RM-2050-1.

  • Can 2005 Volkswagen Passat be Towed Behind RV
Everything I looked up for your vehicle says that it has to be towed on a tow dolly and can't be towed with all 4 wheels on the ground. We do have a tow dolly that would work well though. For that you would want the Roadmaster Tow Dolly part # RM-2050-1 as long as your wheels are smaller than 17 inch diameter which would work great as it comes with brakes, ramps and taillights.

  • How to Tow a 2001 Toyota Celica behind a Motorhome
I really wish we had a base plate kit that was a fit for your 2001 Toyota Celica, but at this time none of our manufacturers have anything as a confirmed fit. Only option we have would be a tow dolly like the Roadmaster Tow Dolly part # RM-2050-1. Tow dollies are great as they don't have in-depth installs and can easily be transferred to other vehicles unlike tow bar setups.

  • Option for Flat Towing 2005 Ford Ranger Edge without Tow Hooks
I wish we had a base plate kit that fit a 2005 Ford Ranger Edge without tow hooks but the only option we would have for you would be a tow dolly like the part # RM-2050-1. Tow dollies have the advantage of being easily transferred to a different vehicle if needed, there's only a fraction of the install time needed with base plate kits and braking systems. The costs are pretty close too since the price of all the flat towing components adds up pretty quick.

  • Is Trailer Breakaway Kit Required for Tow dolly
You do ask a good question. A breakaway system is not required when using the Roadmaster Tow Dolly. And yes, there would definitely be a risk of the towed car jackknifing if the dolly brakes engaged after the trailer decoupling. The rear of the towed car could come around sideways and make a bad situation worse. My technical contact at Roadmaster confirmed that the above information is correct.

  • Option for Flat Towing 2004 and 2006 Honda Insight
The only option we carry for flat towing your 2004 and 2006 Honda Insight is with a tow dolly like the part # RM-2050-1. What's great about a dolly is that you aren't forced to buy more than one setup to tow both cars. You would need to check owners manual of both vehicles to determine if using a tow dolly is okay.

  • Can 2005 Jeep Grand Grand Cherokee Be Flat Towed on Tow Dolly
Your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 is towable with the Tow Dolly part # RM-2050-1 that you referenced. Jeeps are among the most popular vehicles to flat tow. The 2009 Dodge Nitro can also be flat towed but you will need to use a lube pump in the transmission. We do not carry these.

  • Can Roadmaster Tow Dolly Tow 2015 Ford Flex
As long as your vehicle is front wheel drive there would be no special steps needed to tow your 2015 Ford Flex with the Roadmaster Tow Dolly part # RM-2050-1. You would just need to drive your vehicle up on the dolly, secure it like normal, and then be good to go. Check the owners manual for all towing procedures though. You may need to leave the key in the on position to allow the wheels to turn.

  • Can a 2016 or 2017 Honda Fit be Towed Using a Roadmaster Tow Dolly
Dolly towing a vehicle is a great way to transport it provided the vehicle owner's manual states that it can be done so I do recommend checking that first. The Roadmaster # RM-2050-1 will accept 12 to 16 inch vehicle tires so as long as the 2016 or 2017 Honda Fit has rims no larger than 16 inch it can be used on either tow dolly.

  • How to Tow Vehicle that Doesn't Have Base Plate Kits Made for it
Best option we'd have would be a tow dolly for your 1991 Geo Storm. The benefits to a tow dolly over flat towing are that you don't have to install anything on the front of your vehicle, the dolly can be used on a different vehicle without having to rebuy towing components, and the price realistically is about the same and in some times cheaper. For a tow dolly we have the Roadmaster part # RM-2050-1 which has electric brakes and taillight signals built in. Base plate kits, wiring kits,...

The Roadmaster tow dolly # RM-2050-1 does not come assembled and we do not have a way to ship it in its fully assembled state. Assembly is not all that difficult; you're basically turning wrenches. I have included links to the instructions for you so you can see what is involved in the installation process. I have also linked a video review of the dolly for you. Any local mechanic in your area would have a very easy time assembling it though if you wanted to go that route.

To the front of the dolly body it is approximately 73 inches. If the distance is not enough you could always use a longer ball mount to increase the distance some. • Can 2015 Ford Fusions be Flat Towed
I did some checking and it looks like the AWD versions of the 2015 Ford Fusion have to be towed on a trailer and the FWD versions can be towed but only with a tow dolly like the Roadmaster Tow Dolly part # RM-2050-1. Tow dollies aren't really too much more expensive than flat towing setups once you add up the cost of all the components and they are easily transferred to new vehicles as well unlike most flat towing setups.

  • Can a 2017 Kia Sorento SXL Be Flat Towed
I did some research on the 2017 Kia Sorento SXL and it looks like the only ways to tow it are with a trailer if the vehicle is AWD or with a tow dolly if the the vehicle is FWD. We have the Roadmaster Tow Dolly part # RM-2050-1 which would work great as well. It's pretty pricey, but by the time you price out a flat towing setup you end up costing about as much but with a tow dolly you can easily transfer it to future vehicles unlike most flat towing components.
