Today on our 2002 Ford Super Duty, well be installing the Reese Quick Install Custom Base Rails and Install Kit for Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitches, part number RP50082-58 in conjunction with the Reese Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Square Tube Slider Dual-Jaw, part number RP30051. The first step of our install is taking the rear base rail and setting it up in our truck bed. Using the measurements provided in our install kit, well go ahead and measure it out from the end of the truck bed. Note: this does not include the tailgate. Then well measure from side to side to make sure the base rail is even. The best recommendation is to go off the weld seam of the truck bed.
Then once we have our base rail squarely in position, well need to go ahead and drill out the pilot holes for our mounting hardware. Using a small pilot bit well go ahead and drill out the holes now. Next Ill go ahead and get underneath the vehicle taking our custom side brackets, setting them into position against the frame, and making sure our pilot holes line up with the attachment holes of the side rail. Now that weve verified that our holes will line up with the side brackets, well go ahead and remove the base rail and drill them out to our final size. Using a step bit process, well slowly get larger until we get to the final drill bit size.
Now with all four holes completely drilled out, well go ahead and put our base rail back into position and install our two-inch carriage bolts. Next well go ahead and move underneath the vehicle and begin installing the side brackets. Note: some applications will have the parking brake cable bracket mounted on the outside of the drivers side frame rail. As in this case, well need to remove the bracket, cable, and hardware, to install the side bracket flush with the frame. Well be hanging onto the hardware as well use it to reinstall the bracket.
Well start with the hardware that attaches to the base rail. Well have a U-shape block that will go up against the bed corrugation. You may need to adjust the hatch handle to slide into position. This will ensure a metal-to-metal contact and that we dont crush the bed corrugation when we tighten it down. Next well install a block onto our two-inch bolt, half-inch split lock washer, and half-inch nut.
Well repeat the same process for both attachment points here on the drivers side. Now with our bracket in position, we can go ahead and reinstall the hardware for our emergency brake cable bracket. Take our bolt, slide it in behind the side bracket, then install the cable bracket and nut. Next well go ahead and install the half-inch U-bolt that goes around the forward attachment point for our side bracket. The U-bolt will go from the inside out. Then well install a half-inch conical tooth washer with the teeth of the washer facing the side bracket and a half-inch nut to secure it. Well install each of these fasteners finger-tight at this time. Next well go ahead and install the 5/8 carriage bolt, 5/8 spacer block, split lock washer, and 5/8 nut and tighten them down finger-tight. Now with all our attachment point hardware in place here on the drivers side, well go ahead and repeat the same process on the passengers side. Note: some applications it can easier to install the U space block to adjust for the bed corrugation before installing your carriage bolts for your base rail. Next well assemble the Fifth Wheel slider assembly. Well slide our straight piece into the sliders and then followed by the handle assembly. Once in position, well go ahead and install the cotter keys to secure it to the sliders. Next well install the crossmember for our slider assembly. Using the bolts provided with our install kit, well go from the inside out, securing with a half-inch nylon lock nut. Note: at this point you can adjust the head height using the holes provided in the crossmember assembly as per your trailer requirements. Now with our hardware installed, were ready to go ahead and tighten it down. Then well torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with the slider assembly ready, well go ahead and set it in the bed of the truck. Well set it into the rear rail and use it as a guide to put our front rail into position. Well go ahead and install the hold-down pins that will help square up the two base rails with the slider assembly. Next well go ahead and drill our pilot holes for attachment points for the front base rail and then remove the slider assembly and base rail and drill them out to their final size, repeating the same process we did for our rear base rail. Now with the holes drilled out, well go ahead and put our base rail back into position and drop in our hardware. Then well go ahead and install the fastening hardware, repeating the same process we did for the rear base rail; first our block, then our split lock washer and nut. Now with all our hardware installed, we can go ahead and tighten it down. As per the instructions, well start with the base rail fasteners first and then move to the side bracket fasteners. Then well torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with our base rails secured, were going to add two additional attachment points for the base rails. It will be center insider attachment points. Drop our carriage bolt in and then get underneath, installing the U-shape block, cover for the bed corrugation, the large half-inch flat washer, our split lock washer, and nut. Then well go ahead and tighten down and torque to specifications. Now with the base rail and side brackets tightened and torqued to specifications, were ready to begin installing the head assembly. First, well need to install the rubber bumpers onto the crossmember with the attachment hardware; a screw and cap nut. Well go ahead and put the screw into the rubber bumper and the bumper through the pre-drilled hole. Then well secure it with the cap nut. Now well move over to the drivers side and repeat the same process. Next well go ahead and prepare the crossmember to install the head assembly. Well remove the ring clasp and large pin in the crossmember, set our head assembly into position, then reinstall the large pin and ring clip. Next well go ahead and install the handle for the locking jaws of our head assembly. The handle will simply slide on and then well install the cotter pin, folding back the tabs of the cotter pin to secure it and reinstalling the lock into position. Next well go ahead and show you the operations of your new Fifth Wheel slider assembly. The jaw handle operates by unlocking it first, pulling out and locking into the open position. Then well go ahead and lock the jaw assembly by returning the handle to its resting position and closing the clasp, locking the jaws in place. To use the slider assembly well simply take the slider handle, turn the indicator pin into the red or unlocked position, and slide our head assembly back towards the rear of the truck, then relocking into the maneuvered locked position. Once weve finished maneuvering the trailer, well simply go ahead and move the slider handle back into the unlocked position, slide the head assembly forward towards the cab of the vehicle, and then relock it in the towed position. That will complete the install of the Reese Quick Install Custom Base Rail and Installation Kit for Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitches, part number RP50082-58 in conjunction with the Reese Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch with Square Tube Slider, part number RP30051, on our 2002 Ford Super Duty.

Custom brackets reduce the amount of drilling and time required to install your fifth-wheel trailer hitch. Brackets, base rails and hardware included.Very easy to install. I watched their online videos and followed the instructions that came with the kit step by step. I had it installed in a few hours. Installed on a 2006 F-250 Superduty
Thanks for the fast shipment, the rails are installed in my F350, and the rails fit the Air Safe Air Box perfectly. I'm looking forward to pulling my 5th wheel in a few days with a smooth ride. Thank you Caleb for the great and fast service you provided from Etrailer.
After this set I moved the hitch from 08 f250 short box to 15 ram 2500 long box. Quick install frame bracket set was the only purchase.
The product is exactly what I was looking for. Easy to install. The brackets I think are the best part, no drilling required. With this product you can get the satisfaction that your trailers are not going to go anywhere. The etrailer staff made the ordering process very quick and painless. Very helpful and knowledgeable about the products that they sell. I will definitely recommend and order again.
Great product. Easy to install. Nothing to drill in the frame. Fit perfectly.
Product is good quality as it appeared --5th wheel itself was not delivered with rest of kit--arrived three days later. Installation easy.
Installation kit fits perfect-easy installation. Only variable was I had pre-existing air springs , so I had to mark and drill the frame brackets and install the air springs on the outside of the brackets--no big deal--worked out fine
I purchased the fifth wheel with the mounting kit to fit my truck. Excellent product. Easy to assemble. Arrived quickly. I completed installation in under 4 hours Thursday night, and used it Friday to transport a camper with no trouble or issues. If you are planning on installing the mounting kit yourself, you will need a torque wrench capable of achieving 212 ft-lbs of torque, and some big muscles. I liked that I could track status of shipment in route easily from the link that was emailed to me. Had 2 minor issues neither was a big deal. I gave a score of excellent because the minor issues did not really affect me, but I am noting them because they may affect another purchaser.
1. The cardboard boxes that the unit shipped in were beat up badly from the handling during shipment. There were holes in 2 of the boxes, and the tubing for the handles were sticking out of the boxes. There were 2 missing parts from the mounting kit box. A 5/8 washer and one of the specialty 1/4 inch spacers that secures the brackets to the frame. This could have been a big deal, but I have washers, and I made a spacer in my shop to replace the missing one. I did not contact Etrailer for replacement parts because I needed to install the unit so it could be used the next day. My choice.
2. The instructions from the bracket kit led me to believe that I needed to drill 4 pilot holes in the bed for the rear bracket, when I needed to drill all five. This meant that I had to take the bracket back out to drill the center hole for the fifth bolt. It took me about 10 extra minutes to install the brackets than it should have. I felt the instructions were a little unclear on that step. Other than that the instructions were straight forward, simple and easy to follow.
I would purchase this product again if I needed another wheel, and I would order from Etrailer again.
Direct fit is the way to go, no holes to drill and everything lined up perfect. Thanks for your help Caleb!
Here are some pictures of the install
Given that this rail kit is custom-built for my truck, it fit perfectly and was easy to install. I originally ordered a universal rail kit from someplace else, but as I was preparing to install it, I realized that there was to much margin for error. The instructions were unclear for my truck and I'd have to drill a bunch of holes that might end up being wrong in the end. Additional research led me to etrailer.com where I found the rail kit I should have ordered in the first place. The website had excellent information, the right products, and a great price-match policy. I should have ordered from etrailer in the first place and saved myself a lot of time.
Straight forward to instal Took longer than expected. Torque and blots were difficult.
Good product arrived on time, great condition. Ups actually took care of it and the packaging wasn’t destroyed. Now the headache of installing this for the first time.

Still working great with no problems & still shopping at Etrailer.
Installation took some time, just take your time and follow instructions and the end results will be rewarding and you wont have to pay the high labor rate for some shop to the work. End results money in your pocket and you know how it has been installed.

All working just fine
First hitch Reese RP30869 with this bracket.
I have a F250 diesel with a 6 and 3/4 bed.
We went to a home depot parking lot to put it on, in case we needed any other tools. Very simple to install.
We were able to install this hitch with the custom brackets without even taking the tires off.
Very easy, took about 3 hours, could have been faster you were to remove the tires-hard to tighten to the right foot pounds.
All you need is a few sockets-some deep and some regular, 2" and 6" extension, a torque wrench, drill, drill bits and an extra set of hands if I remember correctly.
For my first hitch, everything was pretty easy.
Etrailer was very helpful with install videos and customer service was excellent.
All pros, no cons, and it looks good too.
Bolted right on just as advertised. Easy install directions and a deal. Watch the video on installation, it goes step by step. Installed on 2005 Ford F-350 Suoer Duty, Dually. I didn't even remove the rear tires, it may have been a little quicker if I had, but plenty of room if you don't.

Towed the fifth wheel from Washington to Vegas then Utah. Works just fine.
We got our hitch rails delivered in a very short amount of time. Due to having a gooseneck under floor ball already installed, we had a mechanic uninstall that and install our new rails. He told us they were very easy to install, but only had one bolt for the front, so he added a couple more bolts and drilled 2 holes. Other than that issue, he advised they were well built and easy to install.
We have our hitch on and the trailer hooked up and ready to go.
Good product quality at a fair price. Service for shipping and follow up top notch. I will be going to etrailer.com site first for all my RV and towing needs in the future !
Thanks.

Product worked out great !! No problems what so ever!!
I ordered the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches and it was as advertised. Installation was straight forward and easy. I will buy custom rails again. thanks
Ordered this kit to replace my other one when I put a new box on my old truck. It seems to be a lot stronger than the old one. I like the plates that go along the frame rail. My old one just have l brackets. Installation was smooth. No trouble at all. Was simple to bolt on. Think I had to remove my overload spring stopper that was bolted on the frame but that was ok since I am installing airbags also.
Installed it myself for a new fifth wheel camper. Had to remove old air bags on my truck but it fit perfectly after that.
Worked as expected. Installation clearly explained.
I bought this kit for my F350. It fits well, the parts are solid, and it gets the job done!
Rail kit fit well in my 2003 Ford F-350, Easy to install. Called and spoke with customer service to make sure I ordered the right kit, very helpful.
All parts came in the two packages, one box was slightly damaged but no missing parts. Will use etrailer again in the future if any replacement parts are needed for the used 5th wheel hitch that I bought
These brackets made my life so much easier as far as the install goes. The print on the instructions was very faded making it hard to see the illustrations. But after reading the text and watching Etrailer.com's informative video for the install on the 2006 f350, it was pretty easy. All total about 2.5 - 3 hours and my brackets and hitch were installed. If I had help im sure it would have been quicker but I did it on my own. The quality of the brackets and hardware was top notch along with super fast shipping and service from Etrailer.com. Thanks!
